<Alicia> bienvenidos!

<cak> Sorry I'm late

<Janet> Howdy!

<Janet> I was just creating some evidence

<cak> Framin' someone?

<Alicia> what kind of evidence?

<Janet> check out tonight's listing at http://www.cyberstampers.com/schedule.html

<Janet> heh heh heh

<Alicia> =)

<cak> Hey! 100 Proof Press has a web page now!

<Janet> Yep, I couldn't remember who was teaching tonight. So we decided that we'd frame Sparkle.

<cak> (while I'm waiting for the page)

<Janet> YAY! where?

<cak> LOL!

<Janet> (I'm in a heap o trouble now)

<cak> http://www.100proofpress.com (I think)

<Alicia> Somos malos!

<cak> They don't have their whole catalog on-line, but they've got the a-MAZE-ing stamp line now.

<Alicia> cool

<Janet> Kriz, we're in a heap o trouble now.

<cak> Hey Kriz!

<Janet> http://www.100proofpress.com/

<cak> Nikki and deborah!

<Janet> Nikki! Deborah!

<Nikki> hi all

<Janet> (oh yeah, Deborah was gonna teach us all she knows)

<deborah> Hi!

<cak> (and how many classes do you have her signed up for?)

<deborah> LOL...that should take about 5 seconds.

<Janet> Deborah, is The Mom in glory this week?

<deborah> The Mom is a happy woman

<deborah> she even has a "subway series" t shirt coming to her

<Janet> LOL

<Janet> We were arguing about who was supposed to teach tonight. I swear it wasn't me.<g>

<cak> It wasn't *me*!!!

<Janet> So I just fudged the schedule to say Sparkle.

<Janet> Charlotte, I think it was. I think it was lampworking tonight.

<deborah> The schedule says Sparkle

<cak> LOL--you meanie--

<deborah> so, where's Sparkle?

<Janet> Exactly. The schedule says Sparkle.

<Janet> LOL.

<cak> blissfully unaware of her teaching duties I suspect

<Janet> (so I just put Sparkle in there about five minutes ago, we'll never admit that part)

<deborah> so, if the schedule says it's her, it *must* be so.

<Janet> exactly.

<Janet> Except I STILL wanna know how you made that spiderman motif on the pen I got from you.

<cak> polyclay?

<deborah> uh....good try, Janet

<deborah> LOL

<Janet> LOL

<Janet> I do still wanna know.

<deborah> snag any ole human for a teacher job....

<deborah> LOL

<Janet> You're not any ole human. You're a human who knows something I wanna know.

<cak> And if Janet needs to know it, I must need to also

<cak> (lemming)

<Janet> Exactly. Lemmings rule.

<deborah> Actually, I am trying to remember what it looked like and what I did!

<Janet> I can scan it. :)

<Janet> if you tell me that I'll show and tell my leaf jewelry I'm gonna put on the convention booth since I gotta put something.

<deborah> I think it was a lace can that I sliced, laid down flat and then sent through the pasta machine a few times

<Janet> let me scan it. brb

<deborah> yeah, I had to reformat the damned hard drive again. I may not have that image.

<cak> Uh oh--doesn't sound pleasant deborah

<deborah> It's been grim around here with the 'puter. I hope it's all handled now....for the moment.

<cak> I hope it's handled now...for a longer time than the moment.

<deborah> Oh, and i was at work last night until 11 PM....their system got hit with a virus.

<cak> Nasty one?

<deborah> Well, I wasn't there for the arrival. I think they said it was the happy99 virus.

<cak> again?

<deborah> problem is, that no one there knows diddley about computers

<deborah> is anyone here on AOL?

<cak> not me

<deborah> I thought they had antivirus software built into the system for email. That's how they got it.

<cak> especially for one that's that old (in virus terms)

<Alicia> http://www.symantec.com/ns-search/avcenter/reference/newsletter/Nov99inews.html?NS-search-set=/39f64/aaa04xcYGf6432b&NS-doc-offset=1&

<deborah> Thanks, Alicia!

<deborah> Hi Raven!

<Alicia> I hope it helps deb!

<cak> Hiya Raven

<Raven> Hi...

<Janet> okay, I'm back.

<Raven> just checking to see if there's any action over here...

<deborah> Well, I got the system back up...amazing what one can do on intuition! LOL

<cak> We're chatting while Janet scans a polymer clay pen that deborah sent her

<deborah> Hey Janet!

<Janet> Yep. Cuz I wanna know how to do it

<cak> url! url! url!

<Janet> and I scanned the leaf jewels I made. I'm dumping them now. I came back to give Deborah a sneak preview of her pen.<g>

<Raven> Leaf jewels sounds cool....

<cak> So she could do a lesson plan?

<cak> they're beautiful

<Janet> Yep, lesson plan on the fly

<brenda> wanna see please

<deborah> Uh, Janet....which part of that pen's design/pattern did you like?

<Janet> okay, the pen I wanna know how to do is at http://www.cybercrafters.com/debspen.jpg

<Janet> the spiderman part

<Janet> down at the end. although you COULD tell us how to do it all. :)

<Janet> the other one is at http://www.cybercrafters.com/leafjewels.jpg

<Alicia> wow

<Janet> Red!

<deborah> Oh, OK....the bottom of the pic...

<Red> Hmmm....no teach?

<Alicia> has anyone seen the new pc project in the new bead and button?

<Janet> Amazingly enough, looks like Sparkle forgot.<g>

<deborah> well, that's easy. make logs of light blue

<deborah> wrap them in white

<Janet> okay, light blue logs, got it. wrap in white, got it

<Raven> oooh pens... I'm gonna go scan one of the pens I did back a few years ago... I still have one... it's broken but I can still show it off...

<deborah> shape the logs into squares

<Raven> brb

<Red> I got so intimidated by the first copy of Bead and Button...I never bought another ;)

<Janet> (Red, Deborah is telling how to do http://www.cybercrafters.com/debspen.jpg)

<deborah> in other words, square off the edges so they are long rod type dealies

<Nikki> Oh Janet those are gorgeous, are you gonna teach them too

<deborah> stack the rod shaped logs

<Janet> so far I've done this (and keep thinking 'that looks like shit" and rumbling them up, my maroon block o clay is now mahogany colored)

<deborah> I think I did three across and three high

<Janet> Yeah, Nikki, it's easier than the pen.<g>

<deborah> so you now have a three by three stack of pale blue logs wrapped in white

<Janet> yeah, so far so good.

<Janet> looks sort of like a honeycomb

<deborah> reduce

<deborah> slice

<deborah> apply as desired

<Raven> Ooooh. love the looks of that, Deb... DOES remind me of Spiderman!

<Janet> but I've DONE that. Instead of cool spiderman patterns I've got mahogany colored once-wuz-maroon clay

<deborah> Oh, and if you want it to be translucent in between the squares, wrap the rods with translucent clay after they are wrapped with the white

<Janet> It might help, too, if it would cool down so my clay wouldn't get melty

<deborah> and before you stack them into the cube shape

<cak> How did you get that "drapey" feel to the cane?

<deborah> did that make sense?

<Red> cak!

<Janet> I've tried that too.

<Red> I didn't see you hiding :)

<cak> (me quiet???!!!)

<Janet> Yeah, makes perfect sense. I don't know why my efforts look so bad.

<deborah> Cak, what do you mean by drapey?

<cak> (I'm actually busy eating popcorn)

<cak> it's not just a windowpane look

Janet> You know, I've done this with white and done it with translucent. I haven't done it with both yet. That's next.

<deborah> oh, smooshed through the pasta machine....try it on the diagonal

<Janet> Oh here's a question. Do I put the slice down on the clay before I wrap the pen, or put it on the pen after it's wrapped?

<deborah> Janet~! Kewl leaves!

<Janet> Deborah, look at the BEEEG one, it's truly awesome, the little ones I'm still working on perfecting.

<Janet> Howdy!

<Alicia> heya!

<Janet> the big leaf is at http://www.cyberstampers.com/clayleaf.jpg

<deborah> I made a sheet...the other end of that pen is mokume gane....I applied the slices to it,

<deborah> rolled it in the pasta machine and the applied to the pen

<Janet> ohhhhhhhhh okay

<deborah> Yeah, i saw the beeeg leaf..I love it!!

<Janet> not sure who that was.

<cak> Gotcha--that makes sense

<deborah> You're so good at this!

<Nikki> Deborah what sort of pens do you use?

<Janet> little leave jewelrys are at http://www.cybercrafters.com/leafjewels.jpg

<Janet> leaf

<deborah> tell us how you did it!

<deborah> :)

<Janet> not leave. leaf.

<Janet> This is easy stuff.

<deborah> I use the Bic brand 'stic' pens.

<Janet> Put powdered pigments on a real leaf, on the backside.

<Red> AWESOME....how?????

<Janet> just flick 'em on.

<Janet> until the leaf is good and covered.

<Janet> Oh yeah, do this on top of waxed paper.

<Red> Flick what on?

<deborah> they're the cheapo pens they sell in sacks. Can you get them in NZ?

<Janet> make a sheet of polyclay (doesn't matter what color clay, this is good for mud scraps)

Red missed something...thought we were talking clay

<Janet> Flicking on powdered pigments. AKA powdered pearls, pearl-ex, faerie dust, etc.

<Janet> you can brush it on the leaf, but I flick it on. It makes a much funner mess that way.

<Red> Onna real leaf?

<Nikki> Im not sure but I will be checking, I loved the pen I got in an order so much Ive run out of ink lol

<Red> Glue?

<Janet> real leaf. on the backside of the leaf

<Janet> no glue

<Red> Green or dried?

<deborah> I'll send you some, Nikki

<Janet> just flick the powdered mica on the back side of the real leaf...

<Janet> then put a sheet of polyclay on top of that

<Nikki> I wasnt hinting deborah

<deborah> LOL...I know. I have many of them around here.....

<Janet> then (carefully) flip it over so the clay is on bottom, then the leaf then the waxed paper

<Janet> brayer it down

<Janet> Nikki, these cost 12 for a dollar

<Nikki> nothing costs that here, lol

<deborah> adn I know it's a pain when you can't get something that seems so readily available.

<Janet> before you take the leaf off the clay, use an x-acto knife and cut around the leaf

<brenda> hey yama

<Janet> Yama!

<deborah> hey yama

<yamamama> hi all

<brenda> did you see my post about you?

<Janet> I'm telling how to make http://www.cybercrafters.com/leafjewels.jpg

<cyberstamp> hi yama

<deborah> Janet, what are you gonna do with that leaf?

<Janet> see the leaf that has gold all around?

<deborah> yep

<Janet> that's gold leaf (to increase the perceived value of it for a necklace)

<cyberstamp> how do I change my name?

<Janet> but it was to hide that I was too danged lazy to cut the leaf out exactly.

<Red> These are totally awesome Janet!!

<nikkiafk> kids are home and hungry brb

<cak> cyber, type /nick [yournewnick]

<Janet> right click your own name in the list, you'll get a choice to change your nickname. Pick that.

<cyberstamp> /nick star

<brenda> are you on the web cyber?

<Janet> on the web page you need to right click your own name

<Janet> click your name once to highlight it, then right click it

yamamama gave her bad advice

<cyberstamp> yes.......I am star......lost in cyberspace

<Janet> you'll get a choice

<Janet> Star!

<cak> (ooops, sorry I forget the web gateway)

<Red> Hi Star!

<deborah> Hi Star

<Janet> oh yeah, after you cut out the leaf? carefully flip it over again, sort of moosh it into the flat backside of the clay (to get another leaf impression but don't moosh too hard or it will smash the good side)

<cyberstamp> Hi, I couldn't figure out why no one said hi; now I see I typed in the room for my name LOL

<Janet> and flick more powdered pigment on that side.

<cyberstamp> /nick Star

<cyberstamp> I can't change it

<Janet> We said HI. Just didn't say the name, because we knew that wasn't really your name.

<Janet> Star. Click on cyberstampers in the list.

<Janet> so it's highlighted.

<Janet> then right click it.

<cyberstamp> oh, you all are so smart

<Janet> LOL

<Janet> then pick the change nickname or change handle or change something, you'll know it when you see it.

<Janet> Then bake your leafs.

<deborah> that worked, Star!

<deborah> yay

<Janet> then if you were lazy and just approximated cutting it out like I did, you can use a leafing pen (krylon, it is important that it's alcohol-based) to color it in

<Janet> YAY!

<star_still> Yes, now I can be a highlight star

Red thinks of LOTS of things you could do this with!

<Janet> Yep, you could do this with a lot of found items.

<deborah> Janet, have you colored your clay with pencils yet?

Red nods

<Janet> sea shells?

<cak> So Janet, you didn't have much trouble losing detail when you detailed the 2d side?

<Janet> no. How do I color it with pencils??

<Red> Lace doilies

<deborah> as in translucent clay with colored pencils?

<deborah> spiffy

<Janet> Well, Charlotte, the first one I did, I did. I brayered the second side and was shocked! shocked I tell you! to find the first side had gone flat.<g>

<deborah> bake the clay and color it

<cak> lol

<deborah> LOL

<cak> The Nerve!

<Janet> that's it, just bake and color it?

Red lovvvvvvvvvves colored pencil :)

<deborah> pretty much, that's it

<cak> Are the wax-based ones better for this or does it matter?

<Janet> Red! You could stamp translucent clay with one a your stamps, then bake it then color it.

<Janet> then sell it for big bucks<g>

<deborah> I have heard prismacolor is good. I know you all have pencils stashed...LOL

<cak> (well, I presume they're wax-based--Primacolor)

Janet ?? have pencils stashed???? I just have the wee 144 set of Primacolors

<Red> Hrmmmph! Teach it to these backwater non up with the artsy times people here in Lousyana :)

yamamama thinks red is ssssoooooooo good with colored pencils too

<Janet> like they were on sale.<g>

<deborah> I'll try almost anything with the clay....herbs...dirt...pine cones...

<star_still> yes, we all relate to the sell thing

<Raven> Okay... I'm catching up here...

<Janet> Raven, look at http://www.cybercrafters.com/leafjewels.jpg

<Raven> WOW Janet... those are AWESOME!!!

<deborah> aren't they lovely?

<Janet> the quick answer is use a real leaf as a mold onto clay, color with powdered mica

<Janet> bake

<star_still> Deb, I went to a convention this weekend and didn't quite stay on my budget. Surprise?

<Janet> those two scanned there are gonna be on gold chains for "back to nature" jewelry

<Raven> I just read through everything... so COOL!

<Janet> Budget? what's a budget at a convention.

<star_still> In fact, I blew my intended cash the first hour and stayed for two days.

<Raven> Now I just have to grab some leaves out there before they all rot

<Janet> Raven, the BEEEEG leaf, that looks real (or would if our leafs were turning yet) is at http://www.cyberstampers.com/clayleaf.jpg

<star_still> I am soliciting this group to help me not feel guilty......any help out there?

<Janet> I'm gonna put that one on a journal cover that I already covered with papyrus

Redstick slips back into the room, rubbing her behind and muttering some VERY unladylike things about her server.

<Redstick> thankee :)

<star_still> it's southern

<Janet> Star, no guilt. Think of all the money you SAVED buying at a convention!

<cak> and your evil twin is still here

<Redstick> Not anymore ;)

<Janet> LOL

<cak> (I was gonna kick her, but the last time I booted Janet instead)

<Janet> LOL yeah, that was funny.

Redstick has kicked herslef plenty over the years...but that's the most pleasurable one ;)

<Janet> I played it for all it was worth.

<cak> I was just tryin' to help--REALLLY

<Raven> Oh wow.... that does look real...

<Janet> Now that one I couldn't use for jewelry unless you had a big honkin' neck, it's a full sized oak leaf.

<cak> I just found a ginko tree in the neighborhood too

<Janet> But it's gonna look gorgeous on my journal cover

<cak> Pin!

<Redstick> yamasis {{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}} I'm sorry I didn't say "Hi"....but my brain was whirling with ideas

<Janet> oooooo PIN!

<cak> Oh! yes--cover ornament

<star_still> that would be beautiful......ginko leaf

<Raven> Yep... awesome BIG brooch...

<Janet> OR... you could cover a box with clay and then mash a leaf right into it before you baked it

<cak> (and easy to cut out with my, uh, lovely cutting skills)

[the log is interrupted for a short time here]

star_still> How did you see those Janet?

<Janet> Oh. she flipped it to me. Raven, can I dump it on a webpage?

<Janet> so Star can see?

<star_still> where are they?

<Raven> Covered the pens with a thin base layer and then applied "balls" of clay

<deborah> oh, cool, Raven!

<Janet> and carved the faces?

yamamama is off and running

<star_still> Man, I feel like a blind woman

<yamamama> ngiht all

<yamamama> night

<star_still> night

<brenda> oh raven those are gorgeous

<cak> Night

<Raven> squished the details into them with different tools

<brenda> bye yama

<brenda> neat

<Raven> Sure Janet... dump away!

<star_still> dump my way

<Janet> whew. I just did.<g>

<Janet> http://www.cybercrafters.com/pens1.jpg

<cak> lol--easier to get forgiveness than permission?

<Raven> Wow, yer fast! LOL!

<Janet> that's my theory, Charlotte.<g>

<deborah> LOL

<Janet> I figured if she said no, I wouldn't say I'd done it.<g>

<Raven> I used polished "gemstones" set into thin clay bezels

<Janet> for the eyes?

<deborah> I love baking gemstones into clay.

<Janet> this is so cool. I'm ready to make some like this.

<cak> Perfect for this time of year

<Janet> Hmmmm... and my failed tries at the spiderman deal have made a nice mahogany colored clay. I think it's kismet

<Raven> For "embossing" tools I use several sizes of pins with the little glass balls on top... stylus' whatever I can find... manicure tools too

<cak> synchronicity fer sure

<deborah> mahogany is very pretty

<cak> I'm just so unsure about sculpture--

<Raven> mahogany color is wonderful... I use mostly browns for everything

<Janet> and then I could bake it, then scratch into it when it's hot and soft, then brush more powdered pearls into the cracks

<Janet> then glaze it.

<Raven> I made tiny "cutters" from scrap brass strips to cut the leaf shapes... then just drew the viens in with a pen point

deborah> Janet, have you painted with the TLS yet? You mentioned that you were going to....

<Janet> ooooo

<Janet> I've painted with it for suncatchers.

<deborah> Great idea for the cutters, Raven

<Raven> I'm lazy... more work to begin with but now I don't have to cut tiny leaves

<star_still> thanks Janet, but for some reason my puter won't open that site

<Raven> oops... not "pen point"... meant pin point, a pen is too fat

<Janet> http://www.cybercrafters.com/pens1.jpg

<Raven> or maybe it was an exacto knife...

<deborah> something small and sharp....LOL

<Janet> try www.cybercrafters.com then slash then pens with a one then dot jpg

<star_still> I know..that's what I tried but won't open

<Janet> (she's on the web page, has to retype it)

<Janet> I'm opening it okay. cybercrafters rather than cyberstampers?

<Janet> it's worth the effort, these are really cool pens

<Raven> can you copy and paste, Star?

<star_still> yes......I typed crafters.......I keep trying but just comes up no. Yes, I will try pasting. brb

<Raven> Both pens are broken so I have them stuck in my terrarium dirt :-) had to was the sand off...

<star_still> it won't let me paste

<Janet> LOL

<Raven> wash

<Janet> No, it won't on the web page

<Raven> oh....

<deborah> Oh, bummer that they broke, Raven

<Janet> these are sooo cool

<Raven> Sculpey seems to get quite brittle with age
