<Lib> I am SO glad you are doing this class, Estelle! I love the chalk look, but don't know anything about them- don't have any yet, either!

<nancyvt> oops, should have waited

<stampsmith> IF I GO TOO FAST DURING THE CLASS YOU MUST TELL ME.

<stampsmith> THE SAMPLES ON THE PAGE WERE DONE DURING A MAKE N TAKE AT THE NJ STAMP SHOW THAT ESTRELLA BIANCHI (EVERYONE CONFUSES US) LED.

<nancyvt> Oh, this is just a wonderful technique - its so easy (don't tell anybody tho, they won't have a clue!)

<Kriztina> ya made it elizabeth

<Legs> Hey Missie

<Rusty> hi christine

<stampsmith> HI EVERYONE! GET COMFY!

<nancyvt> stamprat, you out there?

<Legs> Charlotte, you are so helpful!

<Legs> ty

<stampsmith> WELCOME EVERYONE, READY TO ROLL?

<cak> LOL--well, sometimes

<Lib> ready, freddy

<cak> Hiay

<Rusty> ok my tea is hot and i'm ready to rumble

<Rusty> heehe

<nancyvt> hit it henry - i mean estelle

<Sber> go go miss stampsmith!

<stampsmith> OK, FIRST THIS TECHNIQUE IS SO SIMPLE WE MIGHT BE DONE IN FIVE MINUTES!

<stampsmith> AND THERE'LL BE PRIZES TOO, DON'T WORRY!

<Legs> that's a good thing

<cak> Oh, but what you can do with it!

<stampsmith> IF YOU LOOK AT THE PROJECTS PAGE YOU'LL SEE SOME SAMPLE CARDS

<Lib> sooooooooo pretty!

<Rusty> very nice

<stampsmith> THE IDEA IS TO BRING OUT THE BEAUTIFUL DETAIL OF THE VINTAGE PHOTO IMAGES

<stampsmith> ...BY DABBING THEM WITH CHALK.

<Christine> Five minutes is good!

<stampsmith> SO SIMPLE YOU CAN FAINT.

<stampsmith> ONCE MORE OUR URL FOR THOSE JUST JOINING IS> http://stampsmith.net/id64.htm

<Legs> what do you dab with?

<stampsmith> AND YOUR DISCOUNT TONIGHT ON STAMPSMITH PURCHASES IS> A WHOPPING 15%

<Legs> when I did thins, I scratcched my glossy paper

<stampsmith> OK, LEMME START FROM THE BEGINNING. START WITH GLOSSY CARDSTOCK.

<jacqueline> the sample are gorgeous,Estelle!

<Legs> even using a Q-tip

<Legs> ok

<stampsmith> STAMP YOUR IMAGE WITH DYE INKS. LEGS, SLOW DOWN.

<Legs> which glossy is best?

<Rusty> lol

<stampsmith> I'M TOLD THE KROMEKOTE OR HEAVY GLOSSY IS THE BEST BUT...

<stampsmith> BUT I'VE USED ANY GLOSSY AND THEY ALL SEEM OK. I DON'T THINK YOU SHOULD GET FIXATED TOO MUCH ON WHICH GLOSSY OR WHICH CHALKS.

<stampsmith> THIS IS A DOWN AND DIRTY TECHNIQUE, EASY AS PIE.

<stampsmith> HI STAMPRAT.

<stamprat> hi estelle

<nancyvt> HEY RAT!!!!

<stampsmith> SO YOU STAMP YOUR VINTAGE IMAGE ON THE GLOSSY WITH, SAY SEPIA, WHICH IS LOVELY.

<StudioBeau> hi estelle

<stampsmith> LET IT DRY. HI ANN.

<Legs> sepia dye?

<Christine> Dry for how long?

<stamprat> hey nancy--whose turn tonite?

<nancyvt> Sepia color is the best - other browns just don't seem to work as well! (i've tried)

<nancyvt> MINE RAT

<stampsmith> JUST REGULAR DIE INK, IN SEPIA, I THINK ADIRONDACK MAKES THAT. BUT BLACK IS GOOD TOO.

<Legs> who makes a true sepia dye pad?

<stampsmith> I THINK IT'S RANGER'S ADIRONDACK BUT I'LL HAVE TO CHECK.

<Legs> ok

<Judy> Good evening, Estelle

<stampsmith> HI OLENA AND COLLEEN. OUR URL IS> http://stampsmith.net/id64.htm

<Olena> thank you

<nancyvt> The one that Estrella used was adirondak Estelle - i have an Archival Ink, its exactly the same

<Olena> already there

<stampsmith> OK, SO NOW YOU'VE GOT YOUR IMAGE STAMPED ON GLOSSY. SIMPLE, RIGHT. THANKS NANCY!

<colleen> as if i didn't have it bookmarked!

<stampsmith> NOW ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ADD THE COLOR FROM YOUR CHALKS.

<Christine> How long does it take to dry??

<stampsmith> YOU CAN USE ANY KIND OF CHALKS, CHEAPO ONES ARE FINE. HI LONSGIRL!

<stamprat> I have Archival Ink sepia--nice color

<Lonsgirl> Hi All!!

<stampsmith> YOU GO TO YOUR BATHROOM, WHIP OUT A FEW Q-TIPS AND DAB DAB THEM INTO THE COLORS YOU LIKE.

<stampsmith> YELLOWS, ORANGES ARE NICE.

<StudioBeau> how about oil pastels? have you tried those with this technique?

<Lib> aha!

<stampsmith> I HAVEN'T TRIED OIL PASTELS. NOW YOU MUST TRY AND REPORT BACK!

<stampsmith> I THINK OF THIS AS COLORIZING, LIKE THEY DO TO OLD MOVIES.

<stampsmith> NEW PEOPLE JOINING, OUR URL IS> http://stampsmith.net/id64.htm

<Rusty> do you have to seal it?

<StudioBeau> okey dokey

<stampsmith> YOU DON'T HAVE TO SEAL IT, ISN'T THAT FAB!!!

<Rusty> well, ain't you all that? lol

<Sber> it doesn't smear off?

<Lib> really? The chalk won't smear or come off?

<stampsmith> SO YOU SEE, A TOUCH OF COLOR HERE, A LITTLE PINK ON THE CHEEKS AND LIPS, SOME YELLOW IN THE HAIR PERHAPS....

<stampsmith> NOPE IT DOESN'T SMEAR OFF!

<stampsmith> I ALSO DID THESE WITH MY BLESSED ARE STAMPS.

<nancyvt> Instead of q-tips i use the little foam guys that come with the chalks from Stampin Up, or those itty bitty tini tiny applicators from Suze Weinberger - gives you great control

<Legs> ok, now sometimes I have problems getting a good clean print when I use this type of photostamp......any good tips other than sanding stamp, brayering on the ink, stamding on ther stamp to ensure good pressure, etc?

<Christine> Estelle -- How long do you let the stamped image dry before using chalks?

<stampsmith> CHRISTINE - JUST WAVE IT AROUND IN THE AIR FOR A FEW SECONDS - IT DRIES FAST ON GLOSSY. YOU JUST HAVE TO EXPERIMENT.

<Christine> Gotcha

<stampsmith> LEGS, BECAUSE THESE STAMPS ARE SO FINELY DETAILED...

<stampsmith> YOU HAVE TO HAVE 'EM CLEAN. THAT'S THE MAIN THING.

<Lib> OOOhh! I can do this, scan it in, print it out on treated fabric, and use in wall hanging or fabric book!!!

<nancyvt> brayering brayering brayering - that's my humble opinion

<stampsmith> I DON'T BRAYER, I DON'T STAND ON THEM. I JUST STAMP!

<stampsmith> GO LIBSTER!

<stampsmith> ANYONE ELSE HAVE GOOD TIPS?

<anno> stampsmith is now known as leadfist

<Lib> Lib is now officially Libster

<stampsmith> HA. TO THOSE JUST JOINING, GO HERE TO SEE SAMPLES> http://stampsmith.net/id64.htm

<deb> thanks estelle

<Legs> ok, I have even cleaned them with pieces of packing tape and that usually works really well, but some of thses kind of images seem to leave areas that either just don't print or else make "fish eyes"

<nancyvt> i think that makes Estrella's so amazing is what she does with after the stamping and coloring... the layering just makes all the difference

<stampsmith> I WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT WITH THE BLESSED ARE HOLY CARDS I USED THE ACTUAL ONES AS REFERENCE TOOLS..LENNAPIE!!!

<lennastamp> hi - i was in the wrong room - the stampsmith room,.....sorry!

<StudioBeau> Sometimes tapping ink on the stamp with rubber up helps . . . make sure the stamp is covered

<deb> wow beautiful

<stampsmith> IT REALLY HELPS TO LOOK AT A PAINTING OR SOURCE TO SEE WHERE THE CHEEKS WERE TINGED WITH PINK, HOW THE HAIR IS TINTED.

<Elizabeth> can you use pearl ex instead of chalk?

<stampsmith> LENNA I DID THAT MYSELF TOO AT FIRST!

<nancyvt> lenna! did you see my mingle...

<stampsmith> I'VE ONLY TRIED CHALK, ELIZABETH SO YOU MUST TRY PEARLEX OR POWDERED PEARLS AND TELL ME!

<lennastamp> elaine is there - maybe someone can rescue her!

<deb> http://stampsmith.net/id64.htm

<lennastamp> yes nancy - fabulous!

yamamama runs in and sits next to the teacher,, sorry I'm late

<stampsmith> I'LL EMAIL ELAINE.

<nancyvt> i'll get her

<lennastamp> thanks epie

<PJ> sorry I'm late too some of us were in the wrong room

<jenmist> this room is packed

<lennastamp> like me!

<deb> http://stampsmith.net/id64.htm

<stampsmith> OK, SO YOU DAB SOME CHALK.

<lennastamp> YES!

<Rusty> i use radiant pearls and they look fabulous

<stampsmith> PLEASE LEMME KNOW IF ANYONE'S LOST OR NEEDS URLS OR ANYTHING OK?

<lennastamp> on glossy, e?

<stampsmith> OOOH RADIANT PEARLS I LOVE THOSE!

<stampsmith> YES LPIE!

<Rusty> my new favorite tool

<stampsmith> SO YOU'VE STAMPED YOUR IMAGE ON GLOSSY...JUST HELPING OUT THE NEWBIES HERE.

<Becky> This looks great and is real easy

<deb> http://stampsmith.net/id64.htm

<lennastamp> ok stamp 1st then add chalk?

<stampsmith> THEN DABBED SOME CHALK ON WITH A QTIP OR YOUR FINGER...

<stampsmith> AND THEN REALLY YOU COULD BE DONE.

<lennastamp> that's all?

<stampsmith> IN THE SAMPLES ON THE PROJECTS PAGE YOU SEE, ESTRELLA TOOK IT A STEP FURTHER.

<lennastamp> WOWOOW

<Debbie> thought you couldn't keep up Lenna lol

<stampsmith> SHE CUT OUT THE STAMPED ON GLOSSY IMAGE AND THEN GLUED IT ONTO A PIECE OF DARKER CARDSTOCK...

<deb> http://stampsmith.net/id64.htm

<lennastamp> i type sm words

<stampsmith> THAT PIECE OF DARKER CARDSTOCK HAS GOLD-EMBOSSED DECORATIVE CORNERS...

<Rusty> but i'll think of all of you when i stamp lopl

<Legs> so, when you use Q-tips to apply the chalk, you haven't noticed any scratching of the glossy paper?

<nancyvt> i'll send her a note

<Rusty> lol

<Legs> maybe I am too particular...

<lennastamp> send debbies goats to find elaine

<Debbie> they're asleep

<stampsmith> HA, YOU GALS ARE GREAT...HI CINDYC! LEGS WHAT ARE YOU A TROUBLE MAKER? NO, NO SCRATCHING ON THE GLOSSY UNLESS YOUR CAT LANDS ON IT.

<lennastamp> ANY chalks???

<jacqueline> Debbie has goats????

<stampsmith> YES I THINK ANY CHALKS!

<cindyc> seal with gloss then?

<Legs> well, Mommy! It happens to me and I am BUMMED!!!

<Libster> I have my eye set on one stamp for the ornament swap

<deb> http://stampsmith.net/id64.htm

<stampsmith> I'M A FAN OF NOT HAVING TO BUY FANCY SCHMANCY ART TOOLS

<Rusty> yah!

<stampsmith> DEB THANKS FOR THESE URL REMINDERS. YOU'RE A DOLL.

<deb> yw

<Sber> I love that about you Estell

<deb> trying to catch all the newones coming in

<Debbie> am I the only one who has trouble getting the color to stick to the glossy?

<Christine> oops - I disconnected myself

<stampsmith> OK SO YOU'VE GOT YOUR CHALK COLORED MASTERPIECE AND THEN YOU GLUE IT DOWN ON YOUR DARK CARDSTOCK.

<Rusty> i like to use anything lying around the house

<Debbie> I have to use really dark colors to get the pastel

<stampsmith> THANKS SBER! I LIKE SIMPLE SIMPLE SIMPLE!!

<Christine> Does the chalked piece need to sit before touching it with your fingers??

<stampsmith> NOPE, CHRISTINE..

<Christine> Wow....

<jacqueline> do some chalks work better than others on glossy?

<stampsmith> YOU JUST SMOOSH THE QTIP ON YOUR CHALK, THEN SMOOSH IT ONTO YOUR CARDSTOCK ON THE PART OF THE IMAGE YOU WANT

<StudioBeau> would the chalks stick better with anti-static swipte . . . or did I miss that part

<stampsmith> WHEN WE DEMO IT PEOPLE REALLY GO OOH LA LA OVER IT.

<nancyvt> i have the old dots chalks and stampin up chalks and a friend of mine has another kind - they all work the same

<stampsmith> THE IMAGE JUST POPS OUT.

<Christine> I'm goin ooh la la now!

<Legs> you make it all sound so easy, Estelle!

<Rusty> can you use Blanco ink on dark glossy paper and then some chalks?

<stampsmith> FORGET THE ANTI-STATIC SHMATIC STUFF, JUST SMOOSH AND GO!

<lennastamp> is the chalk a different color on the paper - does it get lighter?

<Elizabeth> OK, ladies, if you don't want to buy fancy tools, tampons (unsued, of course) work great for applying chalk.

<stampsmith> I NEVER HEARD OF BLANCO INK RUSTY - THERE'S A PROJECT FOR YOU.

<nancyvt> hmmm... never tried that rusty!

<Christine> Tampons!!!!!

<StudioBeau> will you be giving a SMOOSH lesson?

<Rusty> oops

<stampsmith> OOOH CHRISTINE, THAT'S VERY GOOD!

<Christine> Now that would be a funny demo

<Rusty> guess i'm stuck now

<Elizabeth> they don't scratch glossy paper and fill a bigger area.

<Christine> Elizabeth said it first

<nancyvt> blanco is what i used on my shrinkit pin for the shrink swap estelle - its white, i used white on black, it gave a reverse image look

<stampsmith> SEE YOU ALL GOT DIFFERENT PROJECTS TONIGHT AND CAN REPORT BACK WITH SAMPLES I'LL PUT ON MY WEBSITE!

<Legs> I seem to remember that tampon is the French word for stamp, oddly enough

<stampsmith> YES, LEGS YOU ARE RIGHT. YOU GOTTA LOVE IT.

<stampsmith> I THINK THE IDEA IS PLUNGING. BUT WE DIGRESS DO WE NOT?

<jacqueline> you're right.......tampon is french for stamp...........

<Legs> <smirking>

<stampsmith> NOW I WANT TO SHOW YOU HOW BEAUTIFULLY THESE IMAGES STAMP UP. THIS IS NOT A CHALK TECHNIQUE...

<Christine> S'ok

<stampsmith> BUT IF YOU LOOK HERE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE PAGE: http://stampsmith.net/id63.htm

<Legs> ok, your samples look great but I neeeeeed help on the actual stamping part and no, I am not just cauusing trouble!

<Rusty> blanco ink is that ink that dries on glossy without embossing

<stampsmith> YOU'LL SEE A SAMPLE THAT'S SO CLEAR AND LOVELY. YOU CAN IMAGINE DABBING SOME CHALK ONTO HER.

<nancyvt> legs, really, try brayering, its the only way i can do it

<Olena> the very first one?

<stampsmith> YES OLENA THE TOP LEFT.

<CRAZY8> WHAT KIND OF CHALK DID YOU USE

<stampsmith> LEGS WE MUST WORK WITH YOU. YOU MAKE SUCH GORGEOUS SAMPLES I'M STUNNED TO LEARN YOU'VE HAD TROUBLE.

<Debbie> I love that image, she's so pretty

<stampsmith> THE CHALKS I USED I THINK ARE DECO ART ONES.

<Legs> is that my sample you are talking about? on the left?

<stampsmith> LEGS, THAT'S YOU, LEA? WHY YES, THAT'S YOUR SAMPLE! TEE HEE.

<Legs> yes, Honey!

<stampsmith> SO HOW'D YOU STAMP HER LEA, TELL US?

<Legs> its me

<deb> http://stampsmith.net/id64.htm

<stampsmith> DOESN'T LOOK LIKE YOU HAD TROUBLE WITH THAT ONE MY DEAR.

<CRAZY8> ARE THEY THE PASTEL ONES

<Debbie> looks perfect

<Legs> well, it took me about 3-4 times to get a decent impression!

<stampsmith> I'M GONNA RUN UPSTAIRS AND GRAB WHAT I USED OK, YOU ALL CAN TALK FOR A MINUTE.

<StudioBeau> looks trouble free to me

<Legs> that's what I was whining about

<Legs> it made me crazy

<Rusty> guess it's time to "steal" my sister's chalks

<nancyvt> ok, so what are we going to do about elain?

<Debbie> well you've got to break it in

<Christine> Legs -- are you using mounted or um?

<nancyvt> legs - have you tried brayering?

<lennastamp> what made u crazy lea? the stamping???

<Legs> maybe it was because it was the very first time the stamp was inked up?

<lennastamp> YES!!!

<StudioBeau> but of course!

<Legs> well, I couldn't get as perfect print, Lenna

<Rusty> have you tried inking the image and laying the paper on top of it?

<nancyvt> uh oh... she didn't rough it up did she

<Rusty> instead of stamping on the paper

<Legs> I was using it on halos

<lennastamp> hmmm have to use it a bunch first b4 u get a good print i think'

<nancyvt> OH RAT!!!! go YANKEES!!!!

<stampsmith> IF YOU USE HALOS (I'M BACK) MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO FUZZIES FIRST TIME OUT WHEN THE HALOS ARE NEW

<stamprat> dang!

<Legs> I finally DID rough it up and then cleaned it with strips of wide packing tape

<stampsmith> I'VE HEARD PEOPLE VACUUM THEM AFTER THEY MOUNT THEM!!

<Christine> Sometimes it helps to put fun foam under the paper

<lennastamp> that sometimes work

<lennastamp> mouse pad

<StudioBeau> vacuum their stamps? I don't even vacuum my house!

<Debbie> I try not to vacuum anything

<Christine> yeah - mousepad

<nancyvt> vacuuming makes the dust move

<stamprat> i'd rather vacuum stamps than house--lol

<stampsmith> SBEAU THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I SAID THE FIRST TIME. BUT I NOW VACUUM THESE BABIES OCCASIONALLY AND IT WORKS!

<cindyc> i am with rusty, these photo types work best for me when i lay the paper on the stamp

<Legs> I think Lenna is right...the rubber needs to soak up a certain amount of ink before you can get a good print

<lennastamp> also - use it, clean it (eek!) ink and use again

<jacqueline> fun foam works too

<Legs> I should try it again and see what happens

<stampsmith> OK I HAVE MY CHALKS...

<Debbie> man you have to clean them??

<lennastamp> yes lea - goood idea beayutiful stuff

<stampsmith> THEY'RE SHAPED LIKE AN ARTIST'S PALETTE AND SAY DECORATING CHALKS FOR A PASTEL TOUCH (SOUNDS SO '50S) AND ARE MADE BY

<Rusty> oooohhhh snazzy

<kat-witchy> i've layed the paper on top and brayered over it

<stampsmith> CARF-T PRODUCTS, POB 83, FAIRMOUNT, MN 56031

<lennastamp> yes debbie go clean your room! ma lenna

<stampsmith> OH WE NEED SOME PRIZES AND GOODIES, HOLD ON NOW...

<nancyvt> .

<StudioBeau> talk about recycling . .. I betcha eyeshadows would work . .

<Rusty> wow lenna's mean!! lol

<Debbie> I cleaned up my files then filled it up again

<lennastamp> those are good chalks

<nancyvt> .

<indigojone> not annoying - helpful!

<Legs> now, Debbie

<Rusty> no can't wait to try it

<Debbie> LOL

<Legs> and you really don't think a sealer is necessary?

<lennastamp> e - small spaces with chalk? best way to do it?>

<anno> I would like to know when someone is gonna come teach that fresco thing!

<StudioBeau> how about tips for wiping off chalk where you don't want it?

<anno> that's some kinda cool.

<nancyvt> doesn't sound like it estelle, sounds like you've got lots of time for games!!!

<deb> the samples are awesome - beautifully done

<Legs> yeah!

<PJ> let's see if I got this (I came in late) ... stamp on glossy, let dry, smoosh chalk, mount. right?

<Legs> make Leanna do it

<Rusty> i will have to inundate you with cards ,estelle

<CRAZY8> DO YOU SEAL THESE WITH ANYTHING WHEN YOUR DONE.

<stampsmith> I'VE SEEN ESTRELLA DO THIS AND A SEALER REALLY ISN'T NECESSARY. YOU DON'T WANT TO BELIEVE IT I KNOW, I DIDN'T BUT IT'S TRUE TRUE TRUE. WATCH, YOU'LL TRY IT AND IT'LL SMEAR!

<nancyvt> Trim like 1/8 of an inch around the image, makes it look like a real photo

<stampsmith> PJ YOU GOT IT! DOES IT GET ANY EASIER?

<anno> but firrs, someone has to extract a class-size quantity of that weird ink from coffeebreak.

<stampsmith> NANCY NICE IDEA

<stampsmith> PHOTOCORNERS ARE LOVELY WITH THESE IMAGES TOO.

<rubberob> you don't need sealer because of the coating on glossy...

<Christine> Good idea nancy

<rubberob> soaks up the chalk sort of.

<stampsmith> OH THAT VARITONE INK ANNO?

<anno> yeah.

<Rusty> i was just going to say thaat estelle

<stampsmith> NO ONE CAN GET THEIR HANDS ON IT? I FEEL SO BAD I HAVE IT MENTIONED ON MY WEBSITE!

<Rusty> about the photo corners

<stampsmith> YES THEY ARE A GORGEOUS MATCH.

<PJ> I'd love to learn more on that veri tone technique too

<anno> is just you can only really get stuff from coffeebreak if you happen to find 'em in person..

<stampsmith> I KNOW PJ, AND I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT IT!!

<Debbie> maybe you can start supplying it!! lol

<Legs> or use your deckle scissors or even better, those ripply "stamp edge" scissors and it looks like how they used to do old pphotos on the edges

<anno> they're horrid to deal with by mail!

<lennastamp> don't you get that ink from coffee break designs??

<stampsmith> EXACTLY ANNO. AND THEN MIKE IS SUCH A DOLL YOU HATE TO BUST HIS CHOPS ABOUT BEING IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH!!

<nancyvt> estelle, can i tell about fran and my swaps, or not

<anno> and they never come to south carolina!

<stampsmith> I ADORE MY DECKLE EDGE SCISSORS, MY FAVORITE.

<stampsmith> CINDY WE NEED TO SEE YOUR CARD! SHARE IT WITH THE EGROUP PERHAPS.

<Kaye> why

<Debbie> me too

<Rusty> talk to you soon

<cindyc> GREAT!

<cindyc> will do

<stampsmith> PLEASE ALL OF YOU GO PLAY WITH YOUR CHALKS. THIS IS TOO EASY.

<Debbie> I thinkit's cause the place is too dang small

<Debbie> not room for anybody else

<stampsmith> ON MY BLESSED ARE PAGE YOU'LL SEE SOME MORE SAMPLES OF THESE I DID. THE YELLOWS WERE GREAT FOR THE HALOS.

<beanjean1> thanks again estelle this was FUN

<Kaye> what kind of chalks do you recomend

<stampsmith> I USE SIMPLE CHEAP CHALKS...NOTHING FANCY!

<stampsmith> WHATEVER I CAN FIND..

<Debbie> good nite!!!!!!!!!11

<stampsmith> ANYONE ELSE HERE GOING TO MILWAUKEE NOV. 10-11?

<Kaye> i keep checking on ebay for some

<deb> wish I was

<Kaye> i wish too

<stampsmith> ALSO, IF YOU'RE IN THE NY AREA, WE'LL BE ANNOUNCING OUR OWN SHOW FOR FALL 2002 SHORTLY.

<deb> kaye - just use some eyeshadow

<Kaye> i want to see stampsmith

<stampsmith> IT'S GONNA BE GREAT!

<PJ> <-- PJ will be in Milwaukee

<deb> old eyeshadows are great to chalk with

<stampsmith> YEEHA! I LOVE MEETING FOLKS FROM CYBERDOM.

<stampsmith> THIS EYESHADOW IDEA IS TERRIFIC.

<PJ> get cheapie eye shadows at the dollar store.

<Kaye> love dollar store

<deb> yes - they are great to use

<stampsmith> WHAT OTHER CHEAPIE ART MATERIAL IDEAS DO YOU ALL HAVE?

<deb> no use throwing them away - just use them to chalk

<deb> um

<Kaye> with one income you have to come up with cheap are materials

<deb> I like to use my dryer sheets

<stampsmith> FOR WHAT DEB?

<PJ> geez oh pizza ... that'd be another whole class for my list! LOL

<deb> for a background paper

<deb> and for static

<cak> I used to have to window mat 20-30 prints a semester. I'm *still* using some of the insides as stamping surface

<deb> they paint very well

<Rusty> i clean my stamps on baby wipes and when they dry it makes neat backgrounds

<Rusty> tear them and it's kind of a mulberry look

<Kaye> cool

<Kaye> great idea

<Kaye> i have gotten so many great ideas this week

<Rusty> but use the cheapie ones at walmart

<deb> also

<Rusty> me too

<deb> you can get those mesh bags

<deb> like onions come in

<Rusty> of course i haven't done a thing

<deb> and you can sponge ontop of them

<PJ> never throw out the foil wrappers from candies ... they make great "foils" ... I'm very fond of using candy foil behind clear acetate and the perm inks.

<deb> with paper underneath

<deb> and the make great backgrounds too

<stampsmith> YOU KNOW ABOUT THE KOOSH BALL FOR BACKGROUNDS? JUST TAP IN INK AND THEN ON YOUR PAPER. GREAT STUFF!

<deb> yeah - and when you trim y our um

<deb> put the trimmings in a balloon

<sparkle> dear heavens, y'all better not come here

<deb> and stamp with them

<deb> OR

<Kaye> i need to try that

<sparkle> you'd have a heart attack at the stuff I throw out

<Rusty> stipple brushes and luna lights make the most scrumptious backgrounds on black

<deb> put them on a piece of acrylic or a piece of wood

<deb> and make a design to use for background stamping

<deb> the scraps make great backgrounds

<stampsmith> OOH THAT'S GOOD DEB. AND MAKE YOUR OWN SHADOW STAMPS WITH THE LEFTOVER BLANK RUBBER PARTS FROM PLATES. MY PLATES!

<stampsmith> SPARKLY YOU'RE FUNNY.

<deb> yes

<PJ> I buy reinkers instead of the ink pads ... make my own pads & store in Altoid tins or the plastic cases from computer Zip drives.

<stampsmith> PJ THAT IS FAB! I LOVE THIS!

<deb> oh cool idea!!

<Rusty> nothing is thrown out here....all is considered art crap

<deb> LOL

<deb> dh gets so angry with my collection of recycling!!

<stampsmith> MY KIDS GIVE ME EVERY CANDY WRAPPER AND PIECE OF GARBAGE AND SAY, HERE MOMMY IT'S FOR YOUR COLLAGE.

<deb> lol

<Rusty> then i take it and give it to my sister and make her keep it

<Kaye> mine asks before throwing anything away

<stampsmith> TELL DH IT'S CHEAPER THAN A SHRINK!

<Kaye> he says can you use this for anything

<PJ> go to home improvement store ... ask for Rubber Gasket in the plumbing section ... it's plain red rubber about 6 inch square

<deb> lol he knows it is but I'm outgrowing my house

<Rusty> of course we just keep passing the same stuff back and forth

<stampsmith> WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THAT PJ?

<PJ> costs less than $2 ... make your own shadow stamps, use punches with power punch and make customized shadow stamps.

<Rusty> paint chips from the hardware store trimmed with decorative scissors are nice

<PJ> or trim with deco edge sicssors

<deb> course you can always use that used tbag to color your cardstock

<Rusty> cool'

<PJ> rubber gasket works better than the fun foam some others have suggested as a shadow stamp substitute.

<deb> I also found that carpet tape is super duper for repairing things when you need a strong 2sided tape

<deb> I now keep a small piece in my billfold lol

<Rusty> i've heard that

<PJ> use metalic reinkers on dental floss, use southwest corner punch and thread it through there ... can't tell it's not the expensive stuff. lol

<spinz> estelle!!! site is back up!!!

<Rusty> woohoo

<deb> oh cool

<stampsmith> OH THANK YOU!!!

<PJ> go to golf store, grip tape is sticky AND embossable

<PJ> ie> wonder tape substitue

<Kaye> yes

<deb> oh really!

<stampsmith> HAVE A LOOK AT THE BLESSED ARE PAGE: http://www.stampsmith.net/id68.htm

<cak> cheaper? (I hope)

<deb> OH - you can also stain or color your ribbons

<deb> if you need s pecific color

<stampsmith> IF YOU SCROLL DOWN YOU'LL SEE SOME SAMPLES I MADE USING CHALKS IN A HALO. THE YELLOW MAKES THE WHOLE IMAGE POP OUT.

<deb> just sponge the color on that you need

<PJ> much cheaper cak ... oh boy I just noticed estelle.. going to the blessed link now!

<Rusty> they are neat

<stampsmith> SORRY, DIDN'T MEAN TO INTERRUPT THIS GREAT THREAD.

<Rusty> well we were doing it for you lol

<deb> that's not interrupting

<cak> (we'll always come back, maybe by the long route though)

<deb> hmm I'm getting page not found
