<deb> we can use whichever
<Sundaystam> VAL'S ARE BIGGER
<deb> http://www.thirdcoastrs.com/postage_to_africa.htm
<deb> ok val's it is
<Sundaystam> BUT...
<Sundaystam> YOU CAN SEE THE INSTRUCTIONS IN FULL ON MY SITE
<deb> http://www.thirdcoastrs.com/postage_to_africa.htm http://home.rochester.rr.com/sundaystamper/Instructions.htm
<Sundaystam> LOL THANKS DEB
<deb> lol
<Sundaystam> OK LADIES READY TO START?
<MaggieB> sure!!
<deb> can we wait another couple
<Sundaystam> REMEMBER ALL THE IMAGES ARE AVAILABLE THROUGH THIRD COAST
<Sundaystam> LET ME JUST STAR WITH AN EXPLANATION OF MASKING
<Sundaystam> * MAKING A MASK: THE BEST PRODUCT I HAVE FOUND IS MASKING MAGIC
<deb> http://home.rochester.rr.com/sundaystamper/Instructions.htm
<deb> and
<deb> http://www.thirdcoastrs.com/postage_to_africa.htm
<cak> Is this a liquid SS?
<Sundaystam> NOPE
<Sundaystam> IT'S A STICKY ON ONE SIDE THING
<Sundaystam> WORKS GREAT
<Sundaystam> IT'S LESS TACKY THAN REGULAR STICKY STUFF
<Sundaystam> USING PERMANENT INK YOU STAMP ON THE MASKING MAGIC PIECE.
<Sundaystam> USING SCRAP PAPER YOU BLOT OFF EXCESS INK. THEN TRIM AS DESIRED.
<neetzl> Where do you get Masking Magic?
<Sundaystam> SOME PEOPLE USE POST IT NOTES
<Sundaystam> I BOUGHT IT AT MY LOCAL STAMP STORE
<deb> check Wacky Wagon in the mall
<Sundaystam> HOWEVER I'M SURE THERE MUST BE A VENDOR IN THE MALL WHO CARRIES IT
<Sundaystam> OTHER PEOPLE USE TEXT WEIGHT PAPER
<deb> you can even use post it notes
<Sundaystam> THEN THEY USE A TEMPORARY GLUE ON THE BACK OF THE MASK
[the logger was dropped for a bit here]
<Scout> Templorary glue on back of mask
<Sundaystam> EVERYONE NOW UNDERSTAND ABOUT HOW TO MAKE A MASK?
<deb> yes
<MaggieB> are you making the mask the exact same size as the middle?
<brenda> where is janet?
<Sundaystam> OK HERE WE GO
<RubberRabb> sorry i'm late--I've had all kinds of problems connecting
<MaggieB> you and all of us rr
<brenda> everyone has had trouble
<Sundaystam> MAKE A MASK* LEAVING THE CENTER OF THE LARGE POSTAGE FRAME OPEN ON THE MASK. STAMP LARGE POSTAGE FRAME ONTO CREAM CARD STOCK USING ESPRESSO PAD. PLACE MASK ON THE FRAME.
<brenda> they all got booted
<MaggieB> it is okay now
<ThirdCoast> Hi Rabbit - me too.
<MaggieB> same size as center?
<MaggieB> exactly?
<CrowFeathe> could someone post the website?
<LiBsTeR> HI Rabbit!
<RubberRabb> hi Val
<deb> http://www.thirdcoastrs.com/postage_to_africa.htm
<LiBsTeR> http://home.rochester.rr.com/sundaystamper/Instructions.htm
<Sundaystam> IT HELPS IF YOU LEAVE IT A LITTLE
<deb> there are 2 web sites : )
<Sundaystam> BIT INTO THE LINE OF THE POSTAGE PIECE
<MaggieB> so the mask leaves a hole a little LARGER than the center?
<MaggieB> tiny bit?
<MaggieB> oh oh
<MaggieB> yoohoo
<Sundaystam> LET ME EXPLAIN
<MaggieB> k
<cak> that's what works best for me Maggie
<MaggieB> thats what i thought
<Sundaystam> YOU WANT IT YES A LITTLE LARGER THAN THE CENTER
<MaggieB> so no halo at all then
<Sundaystam> BUT NOT INTO THE OTHER PART OF THE PIECE
<MaggieB> k
<MaggieB> ty
<Sundaystam> IT WILL HELP YOU NOT TO GET THAT HALO EFFECT
<Sundaystam> THAT'S ALSO WHY I LIKE THE MASKING
<Sundaystam> MAGIC FOR THIS
<Sundaystam> NOW FOR MORE
<Sundaystam> STAMP RANDOMLY USING DIFFERENT IMAGES AND THE FOLLOWING PADS - BUTTERSCOTCH, CARAMEL, GINGER AND ESPRESSO. ON THE DARKER COLORS YOU SHOULD STAMP OFF ONCE TO ALLOW A SOFTER LOOK TO YOUR COLLAGE.
<Sundaystam> STAMP OFF ESPECIALLY WITH ESPRESSO
<Sundaystam> (STAMPING OFF MEANS TO LOAD THE IMAGE AND STAMP IT OFF LIGHTLY ON SCRAP PAPER BEFORE PLACING DIRECTLY ON TO CARD.)
<Sundaystam> JUST IN CASE SOMEONEDIDN'T KNOW!
<deb> ty
<brenda> i have never did that
<Sundaystam> READY?
<deb> yes
<Sundaystam> TO GET THE TWO-TONE LOOK ON THE "TRAVEL", INK UP YOU IMAGE WITH BUTTERSCOTCH THEN LIGHTLY TAP THE EDGES IN ESPRESSO.
<deb> cool
<Sundaystam> YOU CAN TWO-TONE WITH ANY TWO COLORS
<ThirdCoast> Neat
<Sundaystam> THESE JSUT WORKS WELL ON THAT IMAGE
<Sundaystam> JUST
<Sundaystam> OK HERE WE GO AGAIN
<Sundaystam> NOW TO THE STIPPLING, USING GINGER LIGHTLY LOAD THE STIPPLE BRUSH AND TAP FIRST ON SCRAP PAPER. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS DO THIS WHEN STIPPLING IN CASE THE BRUSH PICKS UP TOO MUCH INK.
<Sundaystam> . NOW STIPPLE OVER THE AFRICAN QUEEN, MAKING SURE YOU DON'T DO IT TOO DARK. NOW USING ANOTHER BRUSH, STIPPLE WITH CARAMEL OVER THE REST OF THE PIECE.
<Sundaystam> YOU CAN MASK THE QUEEN IF YOU WANT
<Sundaystam> I FOUND IT WAS EASY ENOUGH NOT TO GET TOO MUCH OUTSIDE OF HER IMAGE
<Sundaystam> FINALLY STIPPLE WITH ESPRESSO VERY SPARSLEY ON THE PIECE. YOU ONLY WANT A HINT OF ESPRESSO.
<deb> hi janet
<Sundaystam> JA
<deb> http://www.thirdcoastrs.com/postage_to_africa.htm
<Sundaystam> !
<Janet> AR!
<MaggieB> you guys just now getting back in????
<MaggieB> wild ride huh?
<MaggieB> lol
<CrowFeathe> yep fior the third time
<CrowFeathe> for
<Sundaystam> OK NOW TH MASK COMES OFF
<MaggieB> or fior.... new cyber language!
<Sundaystam> REMOVE THE MASK AND TRIM. I FOUND AN EASY WAY TO CUT OUT THE FRAME WAS TO CUT STRAIGHT ACROSS THE OUTSIDE EDGES, THEN USING A 1/4" ROUND PUNCH, HOLD IT UPSIDE DOWN AND LINE UP THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE POSTAGE INDENT AND PUNCH. TO FINISH MOVE THE PUNCH TO THE LEFT AND DO THE SAME. MUCH QUICKER THAN TRIMMING WITH SCISSORS, AND MORE PRECISE.
<CrowFeathe> lol
<Sundaystam> EVRYONE UNDERSTAND SO FAR?
<ThirdCoast> Clever
<Janet> i get that. slick!
<MaggieB> yeppers!
<Sundaystam> I LIKE TO CUT BUT NOT THAT MUCH
<deb> cool
<MaggieB> ever use the postage scissors?
<Sundaystam> TOO SMALL
<cak> SS, what is the size of the punch? (I only get a pi)
<Sundaystam> 1/4"
<MaggieB> oh this is BIG faux postage?
<Sundaystam> YEAP
<cak> thanks
<MaggieB> ty
<MaggieB> cannot tell the scale
<Sundaystam> IT'S THE NICEST LARGE ONE I'VE EVER SEEN
<Sundaystam> AND NOW I HAVE IT TO USE OVER AND OVER
<CrowFeathe> about what size, in inches are these big postoids?
<MaggieB> ty crow... should have thought to ask lol
<CrowFeathe> <g>
<ThirdCoast> The large one is about 3-3/4" X 5"...
<ThirdCoast> The smaller one (next card) is about 2-1/4" X 3"
<MaggieB> wow
<MaggieB> they are big!
<CrowFeathe> thx. what size at the smallest, can one use the 1/4 inch round punch on? And what about using an 1/8 inch punch?
<Sundaystam> SHE OUGHTA KNOW!
<Sundaystam> CF
<MaggieB> the big one is index card size!
<MaggieB> hugew!
<Janet> card size!
<Sundaystam> THAT ONE I CUT OUT EACH ONE
<MaggieB> yes!
<Sundaystam> READY HERE WE GO TO FINISH THE CARD
<Sundaystam> CUT PIECE OF CREAM CARD STOCK 6-5/8" X 11" AND FOLD IN HALF. RANDOMLY STAMP IMAGES OVER THE FRONT OF THE CARD USING BUTTERSCOTCH. TO ACHIEVE THE DIMENSIONAL EFFECT LOAD THE IMAGE AND STAMP THEN BEFORE RELOADING, STAMP SEVERAL MORE TIMES. CUT BROWN CARD STOCK 4-1/2" X 6" AND TEAR TWO EDGES OFF AS IN SAMPLE. GLUE TO MAIN CARD AS SHOWN. USING FOAM TAPE, APPLY THE LARGE POSTAGE FRAME TO THE UPPER LEFT CORNER OF THE BROWN PIECE.
<ThirdCoast> Postoid frames are here: http://www.thirdcoastrs.com/page_85.htm
<Sundaystam> iF YOU ALL DON'T HAVE THE LARGE ONE YOU SHOULD
<Sundaystam> I'M THNKINF OF DOING CHRISTAMS CARDS FOR NEXT YEAR WITH IT
<Janet> That would be a really handy stamp to have.
<Janet> postage to the north pole? (what would that be? a wish and a prayer?)
<Sundaystam> THERE ARE SO MANY OPTIONS WITH A LARGE POSTAL
<deb> too cool
<Sundaystam> NOW ON TO CARD #2
<Sundaystam> EVERYONE GOT THE OTHER?
<Janet> I do! What a cool card!
<Sundaystam> REMEMBER ALL INSTRUTIONS ARE ON MY WEB SITE THAT DEB IS GIVING YOU THE URL FOR
<Janet> (that I think I can make even)
<Sundaystam> INSTRUCTIONS...SHEESH CAN YOU TELL I'M TIRED TONIGHT!
<MaggieB> lol
<ThirdCoast> And I'll link to Sunday soon - if you forget her URL, you can find it on the Third Coast site.
<brenda> you are doing fine sunday
<MaggieB> you are doing GREAT!
<deb> http://www.thirdcoastrs.com/postage_to_africa.htm
<Sundaystam> ANOTHER SIP OF TEA AND ON WE GO
<Sundaystam> CUT ONE-PIECE CREAM CARD STOCK 5-1/4" X 10-1/2". MEASURE IN FROM EACH END 2-5/8" AND SCORE. AT THE SAME TIME BRING THE TWO ENDS IN TO MEET IN THE CENTER AND FOLD DOWN. THIS ISN'T THAT EASY BUT IT'S THE BEST WAY TO ASSURE A "MEETING IN THE MIDDLE"
<deb> http://home.rochester.rr.com/sundaystamper/Instructions.htm
<Sundaystam> READ IT TWICE
<Sundaystam> IT'S A HARD THING TO EXPLAIN IN WORDS WITHOUT VISUALS
<Sundaystam> EVRYONE UNDERSTAND?
<Sundaystam> IF YOU FOLD HARD EACH SIDE SEPARATELY YOU END UP WITH OVER LAP. IF YOU DO, JUST USE A PAPER TRIMMER OR SCISSORS TO TRIM OFF THE EXCESS.
<brenda> all the way around??????
<Sundaystam> NO
<Sundaystam> JUST SCORE IN FROM EACH LONG END
<brenda> ok got ya
<Sundaystam> GOOOD!
<Sundaystam> HERE WE GO
<Sundaystam> PICK AN IMAGE AND DRAW A LIGHT PENCIL LINE ACROSS THE FRONT OF CARD FOR IMAGE TO BE STAMPED ACROSS. THIS WILL GUIDE YOUR STAMPING. NOW STAMP.
<Sundaystam> USE THE IMAGE AS A GUIDE FOR WHERE TO DRAW THE LINE
<MaggieB> across, perpendicular to the center you mean right?
<Sundaystam> THEN USE THE LINE AS A GUIDE OF WHERE TO STAMP THE IMAGE
<Janet> i'm pathetic. I'm already lost. 'spain it to me again?
<Sundaystam> PERPENDIC HUH
<MaggieB> on a horizontal line
<Sundaystam> ACROSS MEANS TO DRAW THORUGH
<Sundaystam> THE FOLD IN THE CENTER
<MaggieB> k
<MaggieB> tu
<MaggieB> ty
<Sundaystam> WHICH PART ja?
<Janet> the folding part
<Sundaystam> OK
<Sundaystam> PUT THE PIECE OF CARD STOCK
<Sundaystam> IN FRONT OF YOU
<Sundaystam> WITH THE 10 1/2" LENGTH GOING
<Sundaystam> FROM LEFT TO RIGHT
<deb> k
<Janet> so far so good. it's in front of me landscape
<Sundaystam> NOW MEASURE IN FROM THE LEFT
<Sundaystam> EDGE 2 5/8" AND SCORE
<Sundaystam> DO THE SAME WITH THE RIGHT EDGE
<deb> http://home.rochester.rr.com/sundaystamper/Instructions.htm
<Sundaystam> NOW BEFORE PRESSING THE SCORE
<deb> k
<Sundaystam> LINES DOWN FIRMLY
<Janet> okay.
<Sundaystam> TAKE THE TWO ENDS TO THE MIDDLE
<Sundaystam> THEY SHOULD MEET
<Sundaystam> THEN FROM THE MEETING
<Sundaystam> PRESS OUT
<Sundaystam> AND FIRMLY SCORE DOWN THE FOLDS ON
<Sundaystam> EACH SIDE
<Sundaystam> IT'S AN OPENING IN THE MIDDLE CARD
<Janet> so i end up with two folds on either side?
<Janet> ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
<deb> ahhhh
<deb> lol
<Sundaystam> YES
Janet is blinded by her lightbulb going on
<deb> NOW I see said the blind woman
<Sundaystam> I LOVE TO SEE THEM LIGHT BULBS OVER PEOPLES HEADS LOL
<MaggieB> lol
<Janet> whoa. i understand now!
<Sundaystam> EVERYONE CAUGHT UP TO THE FOLD?
<deb> yes'm
<Sundaystam> OKIE DOKIE
<Sundaystam> PICK AN IMAGE AND DRAW A LIGHT PENCIL LINE ACROSS THE FRONT OF CARD FOR IMAGE TO BE STAMPED ACROSS. THIS WILL GUIDE YOUR STAMPING. NOW STAMP.
<Sundaystam> QUESTIONS?
<Sundaystam> OK
<Sundaystam> DO THE SAME THE WHOLE WAY DOWN THE FRONT OF THE CARD. ONCE THE INK IS DRY ERASE THE LINES.
<Sundaystam> DON'T ERASE THEM LINES IF THE INK ISN'T DRY!
<ThirdCoast> So - you mean you are drawing a line to stamp a single image multiple times across the card - the dragonfly for example?
<deb> ok - this is the card with the animals on it for those who need to see a picture > )
<Sundaystam> CORRECT VAL
<Sundaystam> OY WE LOST ANOTHER ONE
<ThirdCoast> See sample #1 here: http://www.thirdcoastrs.com/postage_to_africa.htm
<Sundaystam> VALS PICTURES ARE NICE AND BIG
<ThirdCoast> YOu can see the fold too - if you look closely.
<Sundaystam> DON'T YOU ALL JUST LOVE THOSE ADIRONDACK PADS WITH THESE BOLD IMAGES?
<MaggieB> yes, through the zebra....
<deb> actually it is picture #2 isn't it
<MaggieB> i love the colors
<deb> that shows the card folded
<ThirdCoast> Yes Maggie
<Sundaystam> OR IF YOU HAVE BIFOCALS HUH VAL???
<Janet> i see it! now I'm understanding better!
<ThirdCoast> Or if you squint.
<Sundaystam> UH HUH
<deb> lol
Sundaystamper SQUINTING
<Sundaystam> OK
<Sundaystam> MORE MASKING COMING UP
<Sundaystam> ON A SEPARATE PIECE OF CREAM CARD STOCK STAMP THE POSTAGE FRAME IMAGE USING LETTUCE. MAKE A MASK FOR THIS IMAGE CUTTING OUT THE CENTER. MASK YOUR STAMPED IMAGE, THEN RANDOMLY USING DIFFERENT STAMPS AND DIFFERENT INKS, STAMP A COLLAGE. STIPPLE USING LETTUCE.
<ThirdCoast> Oh - why do they name those pads after food?
<deb> lol
<Janet> love the eggplant<g>
<Sundaystam> I DON'T KNOW
<MaggieB> heh heh
<deb> and raisin
<Janet> butterscotch. yum
<Sundaystam> BECAUSE THE LETTUCE IF IT WERE THAT COLOR WOULD BE BAD
<Janet> pesto
<MaggieB> too hard a question this late on a sat night! lol
<ThirdCoast> lol
<ThirdCoast> It just makes me hungry
<Sundaystam> OK EVERYONE CAUGHT UP?
<deb> yep
<MaggieB> lettuce and eggplant make you hungry? not me
<MaggieB> yep
<Janet> lettuce and mushroom are my two most used ink colors out of that set. I use 'em as neutrals
<Janet> I am understanding so far!
<ThirdCoast> well I'm still on the butterscotch and espresso
<Sundaystam> WE'RE GONNA DO THE NEATO CLOSURE NOW
<Sundaystam> CUT A PIECE OF GREEN CARD STOCK FOR THE BACKING OF THE POSTAGE, THEN TRIM OUT THE POSTAGE, AS ABOVE. LAYER THE POSTAGE ONTO THE GREEN PIECE. PLACE FOAM TAPE ALONG THE RIGHT EDGE OF THE GREEN PIECE. WITH THE MAIN CARD IN FRONT OF YOU, PLACE THE FINISHED POSTAGE PIECE ON THE CARD. THIS ALLOWS THE CARD TO OPEN BUT THE POSTAGE PIECE TO ACT AS A CLOSURE!
<Janet> espresso is a great color
<Janet> and ginger too
<Sundaystam> I LOVE STEAM
<Sundaystam> STREAM
<Janet> okay, you just lost me there, AR
<Sundaystam> GOTTA GET THESE FINGERS FIXED
<Sundaystam> OK
<deb> cool
<ThirdCoast> Is stream the color of the beetle in the sample?
<Sundaystam> CUT THE GRREN STOCK AND FIT TO BACK OF
<Sundaystam> TRIMMED OUT POSTAL
<Janet> or is that bottle?
<Sundaystam> YES vAL
<Sundaystam> NO JA
<MaggieB> are you saying put the postal on one side of the fold so that one grasps it to open?
<Janet> stream. got it.
<Sundaystam> JA YOU WITH ME SO FAR?
<Janet> so far.
<deb> yesh
<Sundaystam> YES MAGGIE
<Janet> i think i just don't get where to put the foam tape
<Sundaystam> ON ONE SIDE
<Sundaystam> OF THE POASTAL PIECE
<MaggieB> acts as a doorpull kind of thing
<Sundaystam> I PUT MINE ON THE RIGHT
<deb> does it overlap
<Sundaystam> BUT IT COULD GO ON EITHER
<Janet> and leave the other side of the postal piece just there? not taped down or anything?
<MaggieB> half of it hangs over
<Sundaystam> THAT WAY IT ONLY STICKS
<Sundaystam> TO ONE SIDE OF THE FRONT
<Sundaystam> OPENING
<Sundaystam> LOOKS LIKE IT'S
<Sundaystam> ATTACHED TO BOTH
<Janet> OH! I got it now!
<MaggieB> therefore it doensn't have to be a center open.... could be asymetrical too right?
<ThirdCoast> Gotcha
<Sundaystam> BUT IF IT WERE
<Sundaystam> YOU COULDN'T OPEN IT
<Janet> that's why I got confused. NOW I'm with ya
<Sundaystam> MAGGIE I JUST DON'T KNOW THEM BIG WORDS TONIGHT , HON!
<MaggieB> can be an off-center fold
<Sundaystam> ASYME...HUH????
<Sundaystam> OK
<ThirdCoast> Neat idea Maggie
<Sundaystam> GIVE IT A TRY
<MaggieB> the opening could be on one side or the other of center
<Sundaystam> MIGHT BE NICE WITH A TRIANGULAR
<Sundaystam> POSTAL
<Sundaystam> GOT ONE VAL?
<Janet> and in mine it likely will be!
<MaggieB> just so not so far over that the postal would be off the card
