<Lineka> Hi everyone

<Vyx> Hi Lineka

<Lineka> How are you

<Vyx> just waiting for class to start... I =need= a basic stamping class. :)

<Lineka> I always need the basics. lol

<sweetjil> hi

<Lineka> hi sweetjil

<Vyx> I only started stamping last few months

<Lineka> Nah. You?

<sweetjil> I've been stamping for awhile off and on ..... always good to take a refresher class

<Lineka> never hurts, eh? ;->

<sweetjil> nope :)

<sweetjil> if you learn one new thing it's worth it

<Vyx> I've been hanging around here for 2 years, but never got into stamping.

<sweetjil> it's addicting..........and expensive :)

<Lineka> I've been stamping for 1 1/2 years, but still feel like a newbie

<sweetjil> this channel is online every day?

<Lineka> all the new techs and products

<Lineka> cyberstampers are

<sweetjil> ahhhhhhh didn't know that

<Lineka> and they do have classes through the year

<Vyx> Cyberstampers is here all the time. The classrooms aren't up unless we've got a class.

<Vyx> Yep, every Tuesday and Saturday nights.

<sweetjil> understand

<Lineka> hi deb

<deb> hi lineka - long time no see

<Vyx> hey Deb

<deb> hi v yx

<Lineka> I haven't used ancient page yet

<Lineka> anyone elst?

<Lineka> else?

<cak> I have, but not much

<cak> I've liked 'em so far

<cak> (I won a couple of minis from Kristy a while back)

<Vyx> No, all I have are memories rainbow pads, one brilliance in white, and plain document black.

<Vyx> Oh wait... I have some other dye ink pads, but they are kinda dry so I rarely use em.

<cak> sounds like you have it covered though Vyx

<Lineka> Yeah Vyx

<Lineka> hi Jan

<Vyx> Yay, you made it!

<Vyx> Hi again Jan

<keribou> VYX- HAVE YOU MADE DONE VELLUM WITH THE BRILLIANCE?

<keribou> YOU CAN MAKE CUSTOM VELLUM

<Jan> Hi and thanks a lot.

<Vyx> I only have 1.5 sheets of vellum. :)

<Vyx> waiting for more ideas.

<Lineka> ideas are good

<keribou> VYX- STAMP ON VELLUM WITH THE WHITE BRILLIANCE

<Lineka> It's a good thing? ;->

<Vyx> And use it for?

<keribou> BACKGROUNDS ON CARDS

<keribou> AS A LAYER

<sweetjil> I like the ancient page.... and the brillance, except I don't care for the pearlized ones.....

<Vyx> Use the vellum as background, eh? I never would have thought of that

<Lineka> brb

<keribou> OK

<keribou> I AM GOING TO KEEP THIS AS A VERY LOOSE FORMAT

<keribou> I WANT YOU TO ASK QUESTIONS

<keribou> SHARE TIPS

<sweetjil> sure

<keribou> TELL US STUFF YOU HAVE DONE THAT HAS WORKED

<keribou> AND MAYBE TURNED OUT REALLY- BAD- SOMETHING YOU WOULD NOT DO NEXT TIME!

<Vyx> I've only made one card with vellum, and did a sponged paint on the cardstock, then stamped on the vellum and colored with pencils and some powdered pearls

Lineka is back

<Vyx> Well, I try to get too fancy.

<keribou> HI CINDY

<Vyx> and it doesn't always work, so now I'm sticking to simple. :)

<cindyc> hey

<Vyx> hiya Cindy

<cindyc> hi vyx

<keribou> VYX- IT IS FUN TO EXPERIMENT

<Lineka> I've never tried vellum :-(

<keribou> LINEKA- YOU WILL GET VELLUM

<Lineka> I have some remember

<keribou> I AM LINEKA'S RUBBER MOM

<Lineka> just haven't done anything with it

<keribou> OK

<keribou> WOUDL YOU LIEK TO TALK ABOUT INK FIRST?

<keribou> OR PAPER?

<keribou> OR DO YOU WANT TO TAK ABOTU TECHNIQUES?

<sweetjil> techniques

<keribou> OK

<Vyx> anything, just teach me how to use this whole iris cart + full of stuff I have. :)

<Jan> Techniques would be good

<keribou> TECHNIQUES WIN :)

<Lineka> ink

<keribou> OK THERE ARE LOTS OF THINGS YOU CAN DO TO STRETCH YOUR STAMPING MONEY

<keribou> YOU CNA GET OLD WALLPAPER BOOKS FROM HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE AND PAINT STORES

<keribou> CHEAP SOURCE OF LAYERING PAPER

<keribou> DEB YOU HAD A TIP FOR BACKGORUND PAPER RIGHT?

<deb> yes

<deb> I like to take mailing envelopes that I get

<deb> and use the insides with the security patterns

<deb> as background papers

<deb> good way to recycle your mail

<keribou> THAT IS SUCH A COOL IDEA

<keribou> NOW I ALWAYS LOOK INSIDE MY ENVELOPES

<keribou> NEVER THOUGHT OF IT UNTIL DEB TOLD ME THAT

<deb> I've come across black, green, blue

<keribou> AND SHE MADE ME PROMISE TO USE THAT TIP IN 101 CLASS

<deb> lol

<Lineka> lol

<keribou> I'VE GOTTEN BURGUNDY AND GREEN AND BLUE

<cindyc> neat deb

<deb> thanks

<keribou> ANOTHER CHEAP SOURCE OF BACKGROUND PAPER IS OLD MAPS

<keribou> OLD CALENDARS

<keribou> I GO TO USED BOOKSALES AND GARAGE SALES AND GET SOME NEAT STUFF

<cindyc> used gift wrap

<deb> also

<keribou> YES- GIFTWRAP TOO

<deb> don't throw away the tear off plastic calendar holder

<deb> you can use them to display cards or photos

<Lineka> magazines

<sweetjil> I use a lot of napkins too

<keribou> COMIC BOOKS

<cindyc> ???

<keribou> HOW DO YOU USE NAPKINS SWEETJIL?

<sweetjil> I attach them with PPA

<MomCat> Tissue paper from shoe boxes

<sweetjil> sometimes the whole napkin......sometimes just bits of it

<keribou> DO THEY WRINKLE USING PPA?

<sweetjil> peel it down to one layer

<sweetjil> No

<Lineka> there are some really pretty napkins out there

<Jan> I used onion skins once, pretty neat

<keribou> NEAT- I HAVEN'T DONE MUCH WITH NAPKINS

<sweetjil> but the trick is........ use your fingers with the glue on them

<Vyx> The paper they stuff into purses... I knew I was a stamper when I saved that. LOL

<ScrapsnSta> PPA?

<sweetjil> not a brush or they will rip and wrinkle

<keribou> JAN- DID YOUR CAR SMELL?

<cak> Perfect Paper Adhesive

<keribou> PERFECT PAPER ADHESIVE

<keribou> IT IS A GLUE

<Jan> Actually, no it didn't lol

<keribou> LIQUID

<cak> ArtQuest? is the originator

<ScrapsnSta> like mon multi?

<keribou> I THINK SO CAK

<Lineka> The Yes glue is drier and works good on thin paper

<keribou> PPA COME IN MATTE AND GLOSSY FINISHES

<sweetjil> I use matte

<keribou> I HAVE MATTE TOO

<Lineka> why the difference

<sweetjil> and they say - if it's white, it's not right...... use it sparingly

<Lineka> it doesn't show does it

<keribou> IF YOU HAVE A JAR OF GLUE AND DON'T WANT IT TO DRY OUT TRY KEEPING A BRELY MOIST SPONGE OR PAPER TOWEL IN THE JAR

<keribou> MY FRIEND OWNS A PAPER STORE AND SHE SAYS IT LASTS A LOT LONGER

<sweetjil> good idea with the sponge.... it doesn't make the glue mold?

<keribou> I DON'T THINK PPA SHOWS- AT LEAST IT DOENS'T ON THE CARDS AND BOOKS I HAVE MADE WITH IT

<Lineka> why the difference in PPA matte and glossy

<Lineka> it doesn't show does it

<keribou> SWEETJIL- IT BARELY HAS ANY MOISTURE

<sweetjil> no it doesn't

<sweetjil> ahhh OK

<cak> it's also used as a finishing too

<Lineka> on top?

<deb> yes

<keribou> I HAVE DECOPAGED WITH IT

<keribou> OVER MAGZINE PHOTOS

<Lineka> like modge podge?

<cak> yep! she formulated it so it was multi-purpose

<Lineka> better or the same

<Lineka> I have modge podge

<keribou> YOU CAN MIX PPA WITH POWDERED PEARLS OR PEARL X TOO

<deb> i prefer PPA

<sweetjil> I keep thinking I'm going to try mixing elmers with modpodge I've had others tell me it's just like PPA

<cak> except I think that when it dries, it shouldn't absorb any water and get all tacky like Modge-Podge

<keribou> MODGE PODGE DRIES WITH ATACKIER FINISH I THINK LINEKA

<Lineka> ty

<Lineka> wait

<Lineka> no

<deb> PPA seems thinner to me

<Lineka> I've covered my puzzles with it

<Jan> This has been fun and will join in later. Thanks

<Lineka> not tacky

<sweetjil> I also like Liqutex satin medium.....

<keribou> BYE JAN

<Vyx> Jan, come back for stamping on clay class later. :)

<Lineka> by Jan

<cak> Not that I can tell the difference but Modge-Podge is a Polyvinyl Acetate and PPA is a PolyVinyl Acrylic

<Lineka> OMG cak

<keribou> CAK0 WHAT DOES THAT MEAN IN ENGLISH?

<deb> lol

<deb> probably means - same product

<cak> (do go there--I toldja I couldn't tell the difference)

<deb> different manufacturer

<Lineka> lol

<Vyx> Acetate and Acrylic are different things

<deb> they BOTH start with AC

<Vyx> I think... lol

<keribou> WELL I THINK EACH HAVE THEIR PURPOSE

<cak> (rats, I thought Vyx was gonna lead us to more knowledge)

<deb> hi ic

<Lineka> back to paper, is there a certain weight to look for?

<keribou> HI IC- WE ARE CHATTING ABOUT DIFFERENT PRODUCTS LIKE PPA AND MODGE PODGE

<Lineka> in CS?

<icstamper> hi all

<sweetjil> Oh... you can also iron freezer paper to the back of napkins to make them stiffer

<cak> I have always assumed that acrylic dries to a more impervious surface

<cak> So much of paper weight is dependent on how you want to use it

[The logger's connection cut out for a few seconds here]

<keribou> 110 LB IS PRETTY HEAVY CS

<deb> yes

<keribou> 80LB IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST COMMON

<Lineka> is 80 OK

<deb> nad it depends on what ink you are going to use too

<keribou> OR 65LB

<Lineka> I noticed some bleed

<keribou> TEXT WEIGHT PAPER IS 20LB I THINK

<Lineka> ink wise

<Vyx> yeah, 20 or 22.

<deb> you might wnat to use a coated paper

<cak> the bleeding might have something to do with the surface not just the weight??

<deb> the coated papears don't beled

<deb> bleed

<keribou> WELL COATED PAPERS ARE GREAT IF YOU EMBOSS OR USE DYE INK

<keribou> COATED PAPERS WON'T WORK WITH RADIENT PERALS- WHICH NEED TO SOAK INTO THE SURFACE TO DRY

<cak> there's no really good way of telling coated from uncoated is there? (except read the label)

<keribou> BUY DYE OR PERMENTENT INKS WILL WORK ON COATED PAPER

<Lineka> so a glossy CS is a coat?

<deb> yes you cn feel coated

<deb> yes

<keribou> KING JAMES CASTE COAT IS A GOOD COATED PAPER

<cak> you mean pay attention! wotta concept!

<keribou> I THINK SOMETIMES YOU CNA FEEL A COATING

<deb> the coated paper is not porous

<keribou> BUT A BASIC TEXTURED CS IS USUALLY MATTE- RIGHT?

<deb> and the ink does not soak into the paper

<keribou> GOOD POINT DEB

<deb> if it's not coated it does soak into the paper

<keribou> YES- WHICH IS WHY IT IS NOT GOOD FOR SOMETHING LIKE RADIENT PERALS

<Lineka> does the RP emboss

<keribou> MOMCAT- YOU DO A LOT OF COLLAGE- WHAT TYPES OF PAPERS OR cs DO YOU USE AS A BASE? MATTE OR COATED?

<keribou> RP'S EMBOSS VERY WELL

<keribou> I USUALLY EMBOSS BECAUSE I HATE TO WAIT FOR THEM TO DRY

<deb> if you are going to emboss you want to use pigment ink

<deb> if you are going to use a coated paper

<deb> you don't want to use pigment ink unless you plan to emboss it

<deb> becuase it won't dry

<keribou> DOES EVERYONE KNOW THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DYE AND PIGMENT INK?

<deb> it will just sit on top of the paper

<ScrapsnSta> no

<Vyx> I do! :)

<keribou> OK

<keribou> VYX- SHARE WITH US

<cak> OK, let me get this straight--coated and uncoated have to do with whether the surface has been treated for absorbtion. Matte and glossy have to do with how a paper looks?

<Vyx> Dye inks soak into paper... ANY kind of paper.

<deb> yes

<Vyx> Pigment inks don't. They sit on top all wet and getting smeared. (lol)

<sparkle> Dye inks dry by evaporation, pigment inks by absorption.

<cak> pigments are more light fast (light keeping qualities especially)??

<ScrapsnSta> so what are brillience then dye or pigment?

<deb> pigment

<deb> but it's a special kind of pigment

<deb> that dries

<ScrapsnSta> :-O

<deb> sparkle

<sparkle> ?

<deb> do you know how this dries?

<Lineka> the ink pad say which they are, which help, I'd forget if I had to memorize which is which

<ScrapsnSta> well I need to know which kind is good for embossing:o)

<sparkle> there's an ingredient in the brilliance that causes them to be fast drying, but on coated papers, such as glossy, they have to be heat set

<deb> pigment

<Vyx> Scraps, you want pigment inks.

<cak> I suspect it has to do with the "base" of the ink--water = dye, oily (glycerin?) = pigment???

<sparkle> stamps, remember pigment needs powder

<ScrapsnSta> still heat set on glossy? ok

<sparkle> and dye will dry

<icstamper> I've used them on coated w/out heat setting and they worked fine

<keribou> DYE IS SHORTER THAN PIGMENT SO IT WILL DRY FASTER

<Lineka> If you have seen the recipe for dye ink it has alcohol in it

<keribou> BUT YOU HAD TO WAIT AWHILE IC?

<Lineka> pigment has glycerin

<ScrapsnSta> I like that Sparkle!:o)

<keribou> TIP WITH BRILLIANCE INK- WHEN YOU STAMP YOUR IMAGE HOLD THE STMP ON THE PAPER A FEW SECONDS TO LET THE INK TRANSFER BETTER TO GET A BETTER IMAGE

<icstamper> It didn't seem very long...just while I was making my project - I love those pads

<keribou> SPARKLE- YOU SELL THEM DON'T YOU?

<sparkle> yes, when I can get my shipments in :-(

<ScrapsnSta> So brillience is kinda the best of both worlds? Are they acid free?

<deb> they are archival

<ScrapsnSta> ew1 Goody goody!

<deb> you will love these

<ScrapsnSta> I love them already heehee

<Vyx> I only have one Brilliance ink, and I use it all the time.

<Susie> I just got the black Brilliance and it worked very well, embossed or not

<keribou> THE WHITE IS EXCELLENT ON VELLUM AND ON BLACK PAPER AND SHRINK PLASTIC

<icstamper> Peacock is my fave with gold over, looks kinda verdigris

<Vyx> Moonlight white... that's the one I have. :)

<sparkle> I'm certain this large shipment will be here 2 days after convention is over <sigh>

<keribou> OH DEAR

<Susie> I have been using the Ziminks on Shrink plastic with good results.

<sparkle> the zim inks are good, but they're a whole 'nother animal

<ScrapsnSta> ?

<keribou> HAS ANYONE ELSE USED ZIMINKS? i HAVEN'T TRIED THEM YET

<Lineka> How about the memories ink on Vellum and shrink plactic

<cak> they one of the *really* permanent inks, eh?

<sparkle> ziminks are solvent based, permanent inks

<Susie> Yeah. I didn't like fumes. (zimink) and hard to clean off stamps.

<sparkle> like ranger 213 and decorits

<Susie> Yes, solvent based, I only use them when I HAVE to.

<Lineka> can you emboss on vellum?

<keribou> LINEKA- I USED ANCIENT PAGE, MEMORIES AND CRAFTER'S INK (WHICH IS HEAT SET PIGMENT) ON SHRINK

<Lineka> ok

<Vyx> Yep, you can emboss on vellum

<keribou> YUO CAN EMBOSS ON VELLUMYOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL OR IT MAY WARP

<Lineka> makes sense

<libster> Question- If you had to pick ONE ink for everything, glossy, matte, embossing and not, fabric and paper, what would it be?

<ScrapsnSta> or crack?

<Susie> I had problems with inks smearing on shrink. I was trying to color them in.

<Vyx> I dunno, Lib, I think you need dye inks the most, then some pigments.

<cak> Lib, I don't think that any *one* can do everything--although they're getting closer apparently

<Lineka> hi Legs

<libster> ok if you had to pick 2 inks for everything, what would you go with?

<Evie> sorry I'm late again.

<cak> we're talking about inks y'all

<libster> I am new still, and have not bought a lot of stuff

<deb> brillince and zimink

<libster> so I want to get what I really NEED

<Lineka> hi Evie

<keribou> LIB- CRAFTER'S INK OR FABRICO IS PRETTY VERSATILE

<libster> I stamp on fabric, too

<sparkle> I would take brilliance

<sparkle> and a good line of dye inks...like ranger

<keribou> FABRICO YOU CAN USE ON FABRIC

<keribou> I LIKE THE BRILLIANCE TOO

<libster> I like my one brilliance black

<cak> How does the Brilliance perform on fabric?

<sparkle> 'cause, you could mix some reinkers with a textile medium to make fabric ink/paint

<Lineka> which seems to be more redily available

<sparkle> it pretty much sucks cak

<libster> you can, Sparkle?

<cak> lol

<sparkle> without a textile medium mixed in

<libster> like with acrylics, mix the reinkers- I see

<libster> thanks!

<keribou> SPARKLE- WOUDL YOU BUY TEXTILE MEDIUM AT A CRAFT STORE?

<sparkle> yep, you would

<Lineka> When embossing do you find it neccessary to use aniti static bags?

<sparkle> its with the other weird mediums and stuff by the acrylic craft paints

<libster> Would you use dye reinkers with the textile medium?

<sparkle> I've done it before...if you do a LOT of fabric stamping...fabric paint would be a much more economical way to go!

<sparkle> but it works in a pinch

<libster> ok

<cak> I don't see why you couldn't, but dyes are not very light fast or possibly color fast.

<libster> thanks I needed to know about that

<Vyx> Lineka, I've been told to use dryer sheets... but haven't had to so far.

<Lineka> good, I've got those

<icstamper> what do you do with the dryer sheets?

<Evie> I had EP sticking in wrong places yesterday so I used corn starch to dust the paper. It worked.

<Vyx> Swipe across the paper

<sparkle> I mix cheap (49 cents on sale) acrylic paints with fabric medium instead

<libster> that is what I have been doing, but I have detail stamps, and can't get a good detail

<Lineka> they sure smell nice too :-)

<Susie> oooh, dryer sheet for keeping the embossing powder from sticking? nice tip

<libster> maybe I need a thinner mixtuer

<cak> but you're better off using a used dryer sheet, right?

<Susie> Why did I think of that, I use them on my hair when it gets flyaway!

<libster> mixture I mean

<Lineka> Question> Would it be more versitile to use a clear embossing ink?

<keribou> SPARKLE- ADDRESS THAT ONE

<keribou> I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOOT CLEAR EP

<Serene> (to use a clear embossing ink for what?)

<sparkle> ROFL

<sparkle> I prefer a colored EP <G>

<Lineka> why

<sparkle> I think a clear ep over colored ink gives you a 'fuzzy' look

<ScrapsnSta> clear embossing ink? What's that?

<cak> basically watered down glycerin, isn't it?

<Lineka> the color would be richer with a colorer ink

<keribou> IT IS GLYCERIN BASED

<Evie> Got a card today, stamped in red ink and embossed in diamond dust...gorgeous!

<sparkle> there's clear and tinted embossing ink...

<Susie> I didn't notice a fuzzy look. But I keep clear EP on hand 'cause I only have a few ep's

<Lineka> but I haven't had that much trouble with clear

<sparkle> plus, i'm a color addict <G>

<sparkle> so I like having a lot of ep's on hand

<Lineka> wait

<cak> (it's just a ploy to acquire more colors!)

<keribou> BUT IF YOU ONLY HAVE A FEW COLORS OF EP TRY MIXING THE COLORS

<Lineka> I've onely heard of tinted

<sparkle> wait?

<sparkle> ok

<Susie> I am a color addict too. But I have been aquiring inkpad colors right now.

<Lineka> that's what I meant

<Lineka> didn't know about clear

<sparkle> there's also a clear embossing ink Lineka.

<sparkle> they're pretty interchangeable.

<Lineka> ok

<sparkle> unless you want a clear image

<Susie> But clear ink with clear EP makes a good resist.

<Lineka> oh

<sparkle> then you want the clear inkpad, like for resists where you don't want your ghosted image to be light pink or light blue.

<Lineka> aw huh!

<Vyx> I love clear EP... have some colors but have never used them.

<ScrapsnSta> i'm so confused<pulling out chunks of hair>

<sparkle> but you really do need to accumulate 300+ colors of EP

<sparkle> trust me

<cak> too much information???

<ScrapsnSta> too much too fast LOL

<Lineka> a clear/tinted can be sprinkle with any color EP

<Lineka> and embossed

<cak> (be sure to save your hair, you could braid it for an embellishment)

<Lineka> One clear ink lots of color EP

<ScrapsnSta> EP is embossing powder right? And embossing ink would a clear ink pad or what?

<sparkle> right

<deb> I need to rest my back for a few min.

<sparkle> EP is embossing powder

<MomCat> rofl, cak

<keribou> OH- BEFORE I FORGET

<sparkle> and embossing ink is a clear, or lightly tinted ink.

<keribou> IF ANYPNE WANT TO ORDER FROM MA VINCI

<sparkle> you can also use pigment ink to emboss with

<keribou> AND YOU TELL ROBIN THAT YOU WERE IN THIS CHAT- 25% OFF YOUR ORDER

<sparkle> a lot of colors will change slightly depending on their under ink...so it's fun to experiment

<Lineka> Oooooo

<Lineka> ty keribou

<keribou> NORMAL CONVENTION SPECIAL IS 20% SO YOU WILL GET AN EXTRA 5% DISCOUNT

<icstamper> woo hoo

<cak> cool! I love her alphabets

<Susie> To emboss you can use any ink that dries slowly.

<Vyx> oh oh... I bet I need something from her, too.

<icstamper> i have the Codex - very cool

<cak> you can even emboss inkjet printing if you're fast enough

<sparkle> I hear the new Ranger Nick Bantock DYE inks are slow drying and embossable...so the line between what you can and can't emboss is very very blurry

<Lineka> I've used the wood/fabric ink pad to emboss with and turned out great

<sparkle> making it even easier to be confused

<ScrapsnSta> LOL

<Susie> I have embossed dye ink - just have to be quick.

<icstamper> did someone say RPs are embossable?

<ScrapsnSta> yes

<keribou> YES IC- YOU CAN EMBOSS THEM

<sparkle> and, if you really really want to emboss with a dye ink, tap your stamp on your clear embossing pad first, then on your dye pad

<Lineka> Don't forget that with some images a "detailed" ep works better

<Evie> Gotta run now, thanks for the class.

<Vyx> Oh, great tip, Sparkle!

<Susie> yes, seems most of my stamps need a detailed ep.

<Lineka> some images need

<ScrapsnSta> what is differance between detail ep and others?

<keribou> FINER

<cak> see you later Evie

<Susie> But I have noticed that I get a scratchy feeling in the back of my throat after using detailed EP. Too fine a powder?

<keribou> HAVE YOU TRIED A MASK SUSIE?

<ScrapsnSta> detail is finer UTEE is rock salt got it LOL

<icstamper> lol

<cak> exactly!

<Susie> Not yet, I think I need to. I also woried about anyone else in the area. Can't really put a mask on my toddler if she is awake at the time.

<ScrapsnSta> :o)

<Susie> But I found those swiffer cloths are great for cleaning up the EP.

<sparkle> Susie, embossing releases fumes.

<ScrapsnSta> glue it on with PPA!

<Vyx> I think I'd be a bit more careful with the ep

<Lineka> lol

<sparkle> if you're getting a scratchy feeling, make sure you're in a well ventilated room...

<sparkle> don't do so much at once.

<Susie> Yeah. I have to be a bit careful since I do have asthma.

<ScrapsnSta> eat a cough drop LOL

<icstamper> I've never had that happen ... are you marathon embossing :o)

<ScrapsnSta> just kidding

<Susie> yeah, I do tend to emboss many images at once.

<sparkle> because I work with UTEE in the hotpot a lot, I have the same problem, the fumes get to you after a while

<ScrapsnSta> gettin high on UTEE LOL

<Lineka> are there any suggestions on how to keep your ink pad faily clean?

<Susie> Yeah, I am pretty careful with solvent based stuff, I end up on the front porch these days.

<icstamper> works for Suze :)

<sparkle> make sure your stamps are clean Lineka <G>

<libster> we are supposed to clean our stamps??

<sparkle> yeah, when the fumes bug Suze, she makes ME sit there

<sparkle> ROFL

<Lineka> aw. that would help, eh?

<keribou> SOMETIMES IF YOU CONTAMINATE AN INK PAD YOU CAN WIPE IT OFF ON A PAPER TOWEL

<keribou> BUT YOU'LL NEED TO RE-INK

<sparkle> if it's a pigment pad, it's easy to swipe with a paper towel and reink

<Lineka> aw

<ScrapsnSta> I have a question, what is the differance between say Walmart stamp cleaner and the more expensive ones?

<icstamper> price

<sparkle> with a dye pad, it may look ugly, but the contamination is probably not enough to do much after you've reinked and diluted the ink

<Lineka> yep

<sparkle> I never clean my stamps

<Lineka> good ol baby wipe non alcoholic

<sparkle> I wipe 'em on a towel, but they don't get washed

<icstamper> takes too much time :)

<sparkle> exACTly <G>

<Susie> I used to just stamp on scrap paper until they didn't really produce much ink.

<sparkle> except...

<Lineka> I'm anal about that

<sparkle> that versamark pad? that needs washed off the stamp

<Lineka> clean stamps are a must

<Susie> I got a stamp scrubber so I use that now. It is fairly easy so stuff gets clean.

<sparkle> I don't know why, but it does

<libster> I love my stamp scrubber, fast and easy

<RavenAFK> the versamark leaves a sticky film on the stamp?

<Vyx> I have got to buy a stamp scrubber

<sparkle> yesh, it leaves icky goo

<ScrapsnSta> stamp scrubber is a type of cleaner?

<sparkle> Vyx, don't get a scrubber

<Lineka> stamp scrubber= paint sponge

<sparkle> go to the store and buy one of those paint things

<sparkle> that is fuzzy over a sponge

sparkle is also cheap <G>

<RavenAFK> yea... the fuzzy paint trim pad thingy

<Vyx> Oh, right... I know what that stuff is, seen it.

<cak> (I loved the idea of a cheap electric toothbrush for cleaning stamps)

<Susie> Yeah. the refills for the paint pads.

<Lineka> some one said a diluted Simple Green is good

<icstamper> ooh good idea, my kids have those

<ScrapsnSta> oh ok but do you use just water with it or?

<phyl> wow cak I never thought of that

<Vyx> I wasn't gonna pay someone 10 or more bucks for something I can pick up at the hardware store.

<Susie> Wow, didn't think of electic toothbrush. I have one no one uses.

<cak> it was on the list--

<libster> I only pad $2 for my stamp scrubber, gonna use the paint refills on it when it gets too icky

<sparkle> if you use anything to clean your stamps, simple green, etc, just to be safe, rinse 'em with water after

<cak> You might have to be careful about how much pressure you use, but it's a NEW TOOL

<phyl> lol

<Vyx> and they had em on clearance at walmart, too

<phyl> let the teeth fall out, use toothbrush for stamps

<phyl> i like that idea

<ScrapsnSta> what about cheap stamps are they a good buy or not :o)

<libster> lol phyl

<ScrapsnSta> LOL

<icstamper> i unmount my foam ones and remount on halos

<Vyx> Scraps, sometimes. I tore all my cheapos off the wood blocks to trim the rubber.

<cak> I usually just use water--plastic plate, paper towel and lots o' water. Just dump 'em in there after I use 'em. Usually clean by the time I'm ready to stop

<sparkle> if it's something you like, it's a good buy

<phyl> even the pigments cak?

<sparkle> if you'll not use it, it's a waste of money <G>

<Lineka> ScrapsnStamps just watch for "thin" stamps

<Lineka> not good

<ScrapsnSta> thin?

<Lineka> if unmounted

<Lineka> and they are thin

<phyl> got a sheet once that was so thin i could have tore it with my hands

<Lineka> they won't last long

<ScrapsnSta> oh I mean Walmart ones

<libster> thanks, Keri- good info once again!!!

<Vyx> I buy the walmart ones, and just unmount em.

<ScrapsnSta> why unmount them?

<Lineka> they should be good if mounted, ScrapsnStamps

<Susie> I have old stamps that are nice, but were clearly before it occurred to anyone to trim the rubber.

<Vyx> To trim the rubber...

<Vyx> they aren't trimmed

<Vyx> I get blotches all over.

<ScrapsnSta> right rubber everywhere!

<Lineka> ScrapsnStamps for storage, but you don't have to

<Mary_ray> Hey everyone! How's it going?

<Vyx> So I unmount those, and trim em, then halo em.

<phyl> good mary

<Lineka> hi Mary_ray

<Vyx> Hey, time for my class up now, so I'm heading to #craftclass

<sparkle> oh! we're running over

<ScrapsnSta> So I won't get "edges" if I unmount them?

<icstamper> correct

<cak> see you over there!

<Mary_ray> nyee

<sparkle> folks, if you want another newbie Q&A, write deb and brenda

<Lineka> by cak

<Mary_ray> byee

<sparkle> and ask 'em to schedule it!

<cak> (well, you gotta trim 'em first Scraps

<ScrapsnSta> ok sounds good can I then glue back on the wood?

<icstamper> bye all - thanks for the info

<cak> yep!

<Vyx> yep, if you want

<sparkle> rubber ceemnt on both surfaces

<sparkle> then when it's dry
