<Vyx> HI SCOUT, CAK

<RubberRabb> vyx, I've always wondered: why does polymer clay have to be conditioned

<brenda> http://www.dm.net/~vyxxan/claypins.html

<cak> Hiya

<vicki> i don't have a pasta machine yet

<brenda> vicki rolling pin will work

<Vyx> or a heavy can, or an acrylic brayer

<vicki> that i've got

RubberRabbit hands vyx her caps back

<Vyx> RABBIT, YOU CONDITION THE CLAY FOR 2 REASONS. FIRST, TO GET IT SOFT ENOUGH TO WORK WITHOUT IT CRACKING

<deb> is it possible to condition it TOO much??

<Vyx> SECOND TO REMIX THE POLYMERS WITH THE BASE AGENT. IT MIGHT LOOK LIKE IT'S THE SAME ALL THE WAY THRU, BUT THE POLYMERS ACTUALLY SETTLE.

<RubberRabb> ok that makes sense

<Vyx> NO BUT IF YOU USE SCULPEY III IT CAN GET TOO SOFT TO REDUCE A CANE

<RubberRabb> thanks vyx

<deb> ok

<debbie_in_> those little pins are too cute...

<Vyx> SO YOU ARE CONDITIONING IT TO GET IT EASY TO WORK WITH AND FOR STRENGTH

<vicki> what do you do if its too soft?

<RubberRabb> those little pins would make way cool tile cards

<Vyx> IF YOU ARE CANING AND YOUR CLAY IS TOO SOFT? PUT IT IN THE FRIDGE. OR LET IT SIT OVERNIGHT IN A COOL AREA.

<vicki> k,ty

<Vyx> I FOUND ANOTHER BENEFIT TO LETTING CLAY SIT OVER NIGHT...

<Vyx> I CUT A BUNCH OF SLICES OF A CANE, LET THEM SIT... AND THEN RAN THEM THRU THE PASTA MACHINE THE NEXT DAY.

<Vyx> GOT RID OF ALL THE FINGERPRINTS. NICE AND SMOOTH IS A GOOD THING, WE DON'T WANNA SPEND A LOT OF TIME SANDING.

<Vyx> FOR THESE PINS YOU WILL ALMOST SPEND MORE TIME CONDITIONING THE CLAY THAN ANY OTHER SINGLE STEP.

<Vyx> WELL, UNLESS YOU DON'T HAVE A PASTA MACHINE... ROLLING OUT CAN BE A PAIN.

<Vyx> I LIKE TO WORK CLAY WITH LITTLE HOT HANDED KIDS, THEY GET THE CLAY NICE AND SOFT REALLY FAST.

<LiBsTeR> lol

<Vyx> I HAVE COLD HANDS, GOOD FOR SOME STUFF, BAD FOR TRYING TO CONDITION CLAY.

<vicki> sounds like a job for dh!

<RubberRabb> find a woman with hot flashes

<deb> > )

<deb> that would be me

deb raises her hand

<Vyx> HEH, I GET MY DH TO STICK THE CLAY IN HIS POCKET, HIS BODY TEMP IS SO MUCH HIGHER THAN MINE.

<Vyx> ANY MORE QUESTIONS? (please, ask questions, lol!)

<beanjean1> rofl

<beanjean1> my dh's body temp is higher than mine too

<beanjean1> wonder why that is?????

<beanjean1> oh

<beanjean1> you don't mean THAT kind of question!!!

<Vyx> LOL

<RubberRabb> vyx what kinds of polymer clay are there

<vicki> rofl

<RubberRabb> I see stuff for sculpy 1-III and primo and fimo etc

<RubberRabb> which is which

<Vyx> THERE ARE QUITE A FEW BRANDS. SCULPEY III, PREMO, FIMO ARE THE MOST WIDELY AVAILABLE.

<Vyx> THEN YOU HAVE SUPER SCULPEY, SCULPEY FLEX..

<Vyx> AND THE NEW DONNA KATO CLAY WHICH I HAVEN'T SEEN YET.

<RubberRabb> so how do we know which to use?

<RubberRabb> does it matter (like for hot OK summers)

<Vyx> I DISLIKE FIMO, VERY HARD TO CONDITION. HURTS MY HANDS.

<April> sorry..had interenet problems

<Vyx> SCULPEY III IS VERY EASY TO WORK WITH, BUT ISN'T VERY STRONG WHEN CURED.

<Vyx> SO ABOUT HALFWAY BETWEEN THOSE TWO IS PREMO.

<beanjean1> I've never bought premo

<Vyx> NOT AS SOFT AS SCULPEY, NOT AS FIRM AS FIMO. AND VERY STRONG WHEN CURED.

<beanjean1> is that at Michaels?

<vicki> does premo come in lots of colors?

<Vyx> TONS OF COLORS.

<RubberRabb> can you mix brands?

[the logger was dropped momentarily.]

<debbie_in_> great...cause thats all I have...and since I have not used it in 6 years...I don't want to buy more

<RubberRabb> I didn't hear the answer to debbie's earlier question> does this stuff go bad?

<Vyx> I DO RECOMMEND USING LIQUID SCULPEY FOR CLAY GLUE, RATHER THAN GLUEING AFTER IT'S BAKED.

<RubberRabb> ie, is six year old clay still good

<Vyx> RABBIT, NOT THAT I KNOW OF. IF IT'S STILL WORKABLE IT SHOULD BE FINE.

<vicki> do you have to bake it again, then?

<deb> you can add a drop of mineral oil

<beanjean1> hey I have liquid sculpey!

<deb> and work it in

<Vyx> IT MIGHT GET A BIT DRIED OUT... BUT IF YOU CAN KNEAD IN A TINY BIT OF OIL OR DILUENT IT SHOULD BE FINE.

<debbie_in_> i am gonna dig it out and will let ya know...LOL...once I find it...and work it some

<deb> a dab goes a long way

<Vyx> VICKI, YEP YOU HAVE TO BAKE AGAIN, BUT WON'T HURT IT.

<Vyx> UNLESS YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING WITH TRANSLUCENT CLAY AND SET THE OVEN TO THE TEMP SUGGESTED FOR THE TLS..

<Vyx> ASK ME HOW I KNOW THIS, LOL

<vicki> and what if you want to imbed stuff in it, like beads or charms?

<Vyx> TURNED MY TRANSLUCENT CLAY A LITTLE BIT BROWN IN SPOTS. :(

<debbie_in_> kinda antiqued it huh

<LiBsTeR> yikes

<Vyx> WELL, FOR EMBEDDING STUFF... BE CAREFUL. NOT EVERYTHING WILL WORK.

<beanjean1> so be careful with the translucent stuff?

<Vyx> YEAH, DOUBLE CHECK THE OVEN TEMP, TOO HIGH AND IT WILL TURN IT BROWN.

<Vyx> WHICH IS REALLY STRANGE BECAUSE THE TLS SAYS TO COOK AT THAT HIGHER TEMP. BLEAH!

<Vyx> http://www.dm.net/~vyxxan/claypins.html

<Vyx> http://www.dm.net/~vyxxan/claypins.html

<Vyx> INSTRUCTIONS ARE PRETTY MUCH IT...

<Vyx> I'M MAINLY HERE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT ANY OF IT YOU MIGHT HAVE. :)

<Vyx> http://www.dm.net/~vyxxan/claypins.html

<debbie_in_> so when stamping into the clay...should I use a certain ink on the stamp...etc

<Vyx> I DIDN'T USE INK AT ALL. JUST PEARL EX.

<LiBsTeR> how do you use the TLS to glue something on? do you bake it after you attach whatever?

<debbie_in_> so just the pearl ex on the stamp...and then stamp into the clay...

<Legs> what is TLS glue

<RubberRabb> liquid sculpey

<LiBsTeR> translucent liquid sculpey- can use it as glue with the clay

<RubberRabb> translucent that is

<LiBsTeR> (I think)

<Legs> ty

<Vyx> YEP, SQUIRT SOME TLS, PLOP WHATEVER YOU WANT INTO IT, AND BAKE AGAIN... NOT FOR VERY LONG, IT SETS UP FAST.

<LiBsTeR> ok great

<Vyx> I DO ALL MY PINBACKS THAT WAY, MAKES EM NICE AND STRONG.

<Vyx> ALSO GOOD FOR GLUEING LAYERS OF CLAY TO EACH OTHER... RAW CLAY TO BAKED, OR JUST RAW TO RAW... OR BAKED TO BAKED.

<Vyx> DEBBIE, YOU CAN USE INK, BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND.

<Chels> Any pigment ink

<vicki> or clear embossing ink?

<Vyx> I WAS DOING CLAY STUFF LONG BEFORE I WAS STAMPING, ROTF

<debbie_in_> thanks...was not sure what inks would work

<Vyx> YOU CAN MIX IN EMBOSSING POWDERS, TOO, OR SO I'VE HEARD.

<Vyx> I HAVE MIXED IN PEARL EX, NO PROBLEM THERE CUZ IT'S JUST POWDERED MICA AND THE METALLIC CLAYS HAVE THAT IN THEM.

<vicki> seems like that would burn away

<Legs> well, ladies of the ensemble......my DH is going to attempt to transfer the old computer to the new one...if you never see me again, you'll know why!

<LiBsTeR> lol

<vicki> good luck lea

<brenda> good luck lea

<Chels> Guess that means bye Legs

<Vyx> WOW, COOL LEGS, YOU GOT A NEW COMPUTER!

<RubberRabb> Bye bye lea!

<Legs> thanks, we'll need it

<Lory> bye love

<Vyx> GOOD LUCK, LOL

<RubberRabb> I'll send you an email in a couple of days to say hi

<Lory> call me

<RubberRabb> so you can ask how to get back to all of us

<RubberRabb> LOL

<Legs> okie dokie

<Legs> what is your number, wife?

<Legs> I don't have it

<Lory> i will call you next week

<RubberRabb> oh you can call me too if you want Lea

<Lory> promis

<Lory> e

<Chels> Hi Queen.

<Vyx> I DO SUGGEST IF YOU ARE GONNA DO A GAZILLION PINS FOR CONVENTION... GET COOKIE CUTTERS OF SOME SORT.

<deb> hi christina

<TheQueen> hi hi hi

<Vyx> HIYA Q

<RubberRabb> 405-366-2193 in case either of my parents needs to say hi

<Legs> wait, let me brag for a second......we got 512 mb, 80 gigs, 1.67 processor and a cd-rw and a dvd

<TheQueen> i'm ty[pin w/1 hand

<LiBsTeR> you will love the DVD I love mine

<RubberRabb> woo woo Lea!

<Vyx> OOOH, NEAT!

<deb> woo hoo

<LiBsTeR> good going!

<TheQueen> b!!!!!!!

<neetzl> Is there an optimal size for the pins? Does a large pin have more propensity to break than a small one?

<deb> why christina

<TheQueen> baby on lap

<debbie_in_> well, I have to open the store in the morning so I better hit the hay

<LiBsTeR> night Debbie

<deb> oh Christina congrats

<deb> Christina had a BABY!!!!

<TheQueen> or i'm so excited to see lea!!!!

<Vyx> NEETZL, MAKE EM WHATEVER YOU THINK LOOKS GOOD.

<debbie_in_> great class Vyx, thanks

<TheQueen> lol

<neetzl> ty

<TheQueen> my niece

<Vyx> I DID SMALL ONES, CUZ THAT WAS THE SIZE CUTTERS I HAD.

<debbie_in_> send me them photos Vicki...

<deb> awwww

<debbie_in_> night all

<TheQueen> i just came in 2 say hi

<Vyx> ANOTHER THOUGHT.... STAMP LARGER IMAGES AND JUST CUT THEM UP.

<brenda> oh neat idea vyx

<neetzl> Once you use the cookie cutters for the clay, you're not supposed to use them for food again, right?

<deb> oh that's a super idea

<Chels> so they're just kiddin about the baby part...aren't they queen?

<Vyx> YOU COULD. I WOULDN'T.

<deb> kinda like stamping and only using part of the image

<deb> lol chels

<deb> yes she is playing with her niece

<Chels> Heh heh

<vicki> once it's in my craft room, it will never see the light of day again, anyway!

<Vyx> CLAY ISN'T GOING TO SINK INTO METAL AND POISON YOU.

<deb> just wash them

<Chels> I wouldn't use them for food

<LiBsTeR> clay cookies....hmmmm

<Chels> C'mon, cookie cutters aren't all that expensive...buy some for clay & a separate set for food

<Vyx`> sorry about that...

<vicki> she's twins!

<Vyx`> somebody kick my dead clone... the one without the`

LiBsTeR is seeing double!

<LiBsTeR> lol

<Vyx`> hello?

<vicki> uh oh!

<Vyx`> the one withOUT the `

<deb> lol

<LiBsTeR> howdy

<Vyx`> sheesh. :)

<cak> you both blipped out at the same time that last one

<cak> (glad to see you back)

<LiBsTeR> musta jumped up on me, I didn't hit the ` one

<LiBsTeR> sorry Vyx

<Vyx> DH TRIPPED THE CIRCUIT BREAKERS CUZ 1/2 THE POWERS WENT OUT WHEN MICROWAVE AND A/C WERE BOTH ON (STEPSON DID THAT)

LiBsTeR goes to sit in the corner and be invisible and cry

<Vyx> LIB, DEB DID IT, ROTF

<deb> sorry

<Vyx> I FORGET WHAT I WAS SAYING ANYHOW...

<LiBsTeR> oh, usually I am the one that does everything wrong! LOL

<deb> dh never lets me drive either

<Vyx> OH. KEEP TOOLS SEPERATE.

<Vyx> WHERE IS RAVEN WHEN I NEED AN URL?

<brenda> http://www.dm.net/~vyxxan/claypins.html

<Chels> She flew away

<Vyx> THERE WAS A GOOD ARTICLE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF CLAY ON THE INTERNET, BUT I CAN'T FIND IT. RAVEN KNOWS IT.

<vicki> was it the one on donna kato's site?

<Vyx> NO.

<cak> on polymer clay central, maybe?

<neetzl> Well, it's not like I make cut out cookies that often anyway. I think the last time was in the 90's...

<Vyx> CAK, MAYBE. I COULDN'T FIND IT WHEN I LOOKED LAST TIME.

<deb> you can line your pan

<LiBsTeR> prolly

<Vyx> USE A FOIL THROW AWAY PAN OVER YOUR CLAY, THAT'LL CATCH STRAYING POLYMERS.

<Vyx> AND USE YOUR REGULAR OVEN. I BURNT A COUPLE BATCHES OF CLAY IN THE TOASTER OVEN, WILL NEVER USE IT AGAIN... UNLESS I NEED TO BAKE AT A CLASS SOMEWHERE.

<RubberRabb> aw heck after years of using DDT on roses, what are a few measley polymers going to do to me

<Vyx> THEY AREN'T ACTUALLY POISONOUS ANYHOW.

<beanjean1> did you try to use a thermometer in your toaster oven?

<Vyx> CLAY IS SAFE.

<Chels> What aren't? Toxins?

<Vyx> BJ, I DID. EVERY TIME I USE IT, IT READS SOMETHING DIFFERENT. BLEAH!

<Chels> I'm not into taking my chances with toxins

<Lory> i never had luck in a toaster, but lucked up on a convection

<Scout> Well, if it is bad to cook in a toaster oven, why doesn't the same thing apply to your regular oven? You could get toxins in there, also.

<beanjean1> poop, I bought a toaster oven at a garage sale

<cak> BJ, I think the problem is the way a toaster oven heats up (very very hot and then loses heat quickly)

<Vyx> THOSE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE REALLY GOOD, LORY

<Lory> but usually do the regular oven (it needs to be used for something)

<Vyx> SCOUT, THE TOASTER OVEN IS JUST NOT AS STEADY ON THE HEAT...

<Vyx> AND IF YOU BURN CLAY... =THAT= WILL RELEASE TOXINS.

<Chels> Stick a ceramic tile in the bottom of the toaster oven

<beanjean1> what will that do chels?

<Vyx> USE WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. I GET BETTER RESULTS WITH MY REGULAR OVEN.

<Vyx> KEEP THE HEAT STEADIER.

<Chels> Keep the heat more even BJ

<beanjean1> ok, just any ceramic tile?

<Vyx> SMOOTH ONES.

<Vyx> YOU CAN WORK AND BAKE ON CERAMIC FLOOR TILES, TOO.

<beanjean1> ok, I have some of those around here somewhere

<beanjean1> great idea

<Chels> Why just smooth ones for the toaster oven Vyx?

<Chels> I've never heard that before

<Chels> Smooth ones for cutting the clay canes...but for the oven?

<Vyx> WELL, I WAS THINKING OF OTHER USES FOR EM... LIKE BAKING THE CLAY ON EM

<Vyx> I USE MINE TO BAKE THE CLAY ON, FOR SOME THINGS.

<beanjean1> could use the patterns on the back of the tile to make impressions in the clay

<Chels> BJ's got her creative thinking cap on

<Vyx> LIKE WHEN I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO MOVE SOMETHING I'M WORKING ON... I WORK ON A BIG CLAY TILE, THEN JUST SHOVE THE WHOLE THING IN THE OVEN

<Vyx> LESS HANDLING, LESS FINGERPRINTS.

<beanjean1> wander through Home Depot and look only at the BACK of tiles

<Vyx> HEH

<Vyx> THEY'LL THINK YOU ARE NUTS

<RubberRabb> I read about rolling out between two pieces of baking parchment

<deb> lol

<RubberRabb> you can bake it, too

<beanjean1> rofl, GMTA Vyx

<Vyx> YEP, VERY GOOD STUFF TO USE WITH CLAY

<neetzl> Can you use any tile in the oven?

<beanjean1> did you read that tip about rolling your clay through your Xyron machine?

<RubberRabb> does he pine?

<Vyx> WELL, IT SHOULD BE OKAY NEETZL

<Chels> Any ceramic tile

<Chels> You know how high a kiln has to get to bake ceramic anything, so...

<Vyx> I USE PARCHMENT TO ROLL SOME STUFF THRU THE PASTA MACHINE. SOME CLAYS GET REALLY STICKY... PREMO TRANSLUCENT WITH BLEACH IS ONE.

<beanjean1> oh gosh I'm gettiner really tired.....

<beanjean1> great ideaa

<deb> you can even put a tile in the oven and put it in the bottom of y our bread basket to sit on the table to warm them

<beanjean1> ok, I need to go to bed

<beanjean1> thanks vyx

<deb> nite bj

<Chels> How come I hadn't thought of that? Cool Deb.

<beanjean1> I learned NEW stuff

<Vyx> G'NIGHT BJ

<LiBsTeR> nite BJ

<deb> > )

<Chels> nity

<beanjean1> so repeats are GOOD

<deb> and it works > )

<beanjean1> bye

<Vyx> THAT'S A NIFTY IDEA DEB

<Chels> Yeah...nifty...heh heh

<cak> lol

<Chels> There's just sumthin about the word 'nifty' that tickles me

<Chels> Thrifty nifty Deb

<vicki> i have a suggestion about clay stuff

<Vyx> GO FOR IT VICKI

<vicki> when you're making things that look like food, they shouldn't look too realistic

<deb-nifty> rofl

<Chels> Bwaughahahaha

<brenda> lol

<Chels> Are you gonna tell us your experience with this?

<deb-nifty> thank you vicki

<vicki> i made gingerbread men out of cinnamon clay a few years ago,

<Vyx> OH GAWD

<Chels> Cause you know we wanna know

<cak> uh-oh

<vicki> and a stupid kid tried to EAT it!!!

<LiBsTeR> lol

<deb-nifty> roflol

<April> lol!

<cak> not for long I bet! LOL

<Chels> The kid knew a good smell when he smelled it

<Vyx> THEY ALWAYS SAMPLE THE SALT CLAY IN SCHOOL... UGH

<Chels> Just had no taste

<vicki> he could have broken a tooth!

<Chels> Some things...yah gotta learn the hard way

<Vyx> A GOOD BOOK TO BUY OR SEE IF THE LIBRARY HAS> The Polymer Clay Techniques Book, by Sue Heaser.

<deb-nifty> rofl

<Vyx> I got mine from that crafters book club.

<April> cool!

<Vyx> ANY MORE QUESTIONS, OR SHOULD WE WRAP IT UP?

<vicki> i have one

<Vyx> ?

<deb-nifty> thanks vyx

<deb-nifty> you always do a great job

<deb-nifty> thank's so much for filling in tonight

<brenda> ty vyx

<vicki> if you make beads, say on a knitting needle or something, will it stick to it?

<vicki> while baking?

<Vyx> SHOULDN'T STICK... THE CLAY IS ACTUALLY OIL BASED.

<vicki> cool

<Vyx> I'VE BAKED ON WIRE, NO PROBLEM.

<vicki> the clay doesn't shrink or anything?

<Vyx> MOSTLY I DO CABOCHONS, THO... HAVE A HARD TIME GETTING THE BEADS TO COME OUT EVEN.

<Lory> i have used skewers and they work, but i do put baby powder on them

<Vyx> NO, IT SHOULDN'T SHRINK. BUT IF IT DID, IT WOULD SHRINK THE OTHER WAY INSIDE THE HOLE.

<Vyx> IOW, THE HOLE WOULD GET SLIGHTLY LARGER, NOT SMALLER

<vicki> got ya

<LiBsTeR> that is good

<Vyx> YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS CLASS TONIGHT?

<LiBsTeR> what??

<brenda> what?

<Vyx> LOL... I DON'T HAVE ANY BEER. :)

<vicki> what?

<LiBsTeR> LOL

<cak> Yes (she says curiously)

<brenda> roflol

<April> lol!

Lory shares her margarita with vyx

<cak> lol! and we didn't notice any difference

<RubberRabb> a 'dry class'

<Vyx> AND WE ARE FINISHING ON TIME FOR A CHANGE, ROTF

<deb> lol

<brenda> lol

<April> lol

<Vyx> DEB, GLAD TO HELP OUT.

<RubberRabb> only because I behaved myself with my mom here

<April> lol

<deb> lol

<Vyx> WOW A MARGARITA SOUNDS GOOD...

<vicki> who is rr's mom?

<Lory> lol

<Lory> me

<April> pass on to me, too!lol!

RubberRabbit snuggles up to Lory

<vicki> do you beat her, Lory?

<Lory> like i am a good role model for anyone in the behaviour department

RubberRabbit sneaks her straw into the margarita

<Vyx> SOME OF YOU HAVE THE STRANGEST RELATIVES, LOL

<Lory> i take away her treats

<April> ROTFL!

<vicki> lol

<April> and that makes bunnies very pouty!

<April> lol

<LiBsTeR> Great class Vyx, thanks!

<Vyx> i guess i CAN quit the caps now.

<Vyx> thanks for being here y'all!

<RubberRabb> yeah you can

<vicki> yes, great class vyx

<RubberRabb> thanks for the advice, vyx

<Chels> You're always an enjoyment Vyx

<April> ty viYx..

<April> VYX

<neetzl> A great class and really nice instructions.

<RubberRabb> Lory, guess who we managed to hustle into the CC?

<AmyLPR> hi

<LiBsTeR> Hi Amy

<Lory> i dunno?

<RubberRabb> Vyx is the newest member of the Carving Consortium

<Lory> legs?

<RubberRabb> she's going to join the madness in Myrth

<April> cool!

Lory might know that if she hadnt been nomail for 6 months

<RubberRabb> Legs is more sensible--she just runs like hell

<April> lol

<RubberRabb> no, vyx just joined yesterday

<RubberRabb> she did this great pansy flower already

<cak> (thank you vyx--just little behind the times here)

<Vyx> wanna see it lory?

<Lory> yeah

Vyx likes showing off stuff, lol

<April> it is sooo pretty!

<RubberRabb> we're going to get her carving like a maniac before you know it..

<neetzl> Thank you. I gotta go.

<LiBsTeR> you should show it off, Vyx, it is outstanding!

<RubberRabb> night neetzl

<brenda> i wanna see vyx

<Vyx> Oh, update on stamping on that box...

<LiBsTeR> yes?

<vicki> what box?

<cak> (Janet showed it off the other night) It's lovely

<Lory> purdy vyx

<Vyx> Even Brilliance won't stick to it. Sheesh... what kinda matte stuff IS that.

<RubberRabb> what is the box made of vyx

<RubberRabb> remind me

<Vyx> The box itself is cardboard, which I painted with acrylic craft paints.

<deb> what box

<RubberRabb> Brilliance will stick to it

<RubberRabb> but it may take a day or two to dry

<Vyx> Then I got this idea of sealing it before stamping.

vicki didn't see a box :(

<RubberRabb> uh oh

<RubberRabb> seal it?

<Vyx> I got some matte acrylic sealer. Nothing will stick to it.

<RubberRabb> nope, you're right

<RubberRabb> you'll have to sand it

<Vyx> so the box is all nice and painted... bleah and phoooey.

<RubberRabb> to give the ink a tooth to stick to

<brenda> not even evolving images document ink?

<RubberRabb> nope

<RubberRabb> final sealers do a great job

<brenda> wow

<brenda> ty

<RubberRabb> sealing everything

<Vyx> nothing... it beads up like rain on a great wax job on your car.

<brenda> i didnt know that

<April> damn..that is some wicked stuff!

<RubberRabb> if you want to 'fix' something

<RubberRabb> and then add to it

<Vyx> so, maybe some ultra fine sand paper. huh.

<RubberRabb> always use workable fixatif

<RubberRabb> or some steel wool

<Vyx> I will get some.

<RubberRabb> or 600 grit sandpaper

<Vyx> of the workable fixative.

<RubberRabb> like you use to finish the clay

<Vyx> I have 1000 grit sandpaper... for clay.

<RubberRabb> that should help

<RubberRabb> you just need to break the surface of the fixative

<Vyx> And now I know not to use that sealer before I'm actually done.

<RubberRabb> next time wait until you are all done

<Vyx> Well, if I mess up on the sandpaper... I have plenty of paint left. LOL

<RubberRabb> because even some glues won't stick to fixatives that are final ones

<Lory> its called distressing...a technical designer term vyx

<brenda> love the pansy vyx

<Vyx> thanks bren

<Lory> say you planned it

<RubberRabb> yep--adding texture vyx

<Vyx> lol

<RubberRabb> depth of color

<brenda> will the sandpaper make it dull?

<RubberRabb> if you have to touch it up, change the color to a light wash of another color

<RubberRabb> hopefully

<Vyx> It's matte sealer, it was already kinda dull... and regular matte craft paint...

<RubberRabb> you need the finish broken so it will accept ink

<RubberRabb> at that point then it should accept either Brilliance, or Memories Black

<brenda> k

<RubberRabb> or a craft ink that needs to be heat set

<RubberRabb> that's why you should always read all kinds of craft books

<RubberRabb> not just stamping ones

<April> yupp..

<Vyx> I do this again, I'm gonna take the box apart and flatten first... then paint and stamp, then put back together... and finish painting... and seal.

<brenda> lol

<RubberRabb> good idea vyx

<Vyx> Cuz I also found out it's kinda hard to stamp good on a box that is empty.

<Vyx> Hiya anno

<RubberRabb> decorate paper first and then construct it

<RubberRabb> Oh

<brenda> hey anno

<RubberRabb> fill a plastic bag with rice or beans vyx

<RubberRabb> and put it inside the box

<anno> hoqsy

<Vyx> I am doing paint to try to use up some of the gazillion bottles of craft paint i have, lol

<anno> ack.

<anno> fingers on the home keys..

<anno> Howdy1

<anno> dang.

<Lory> new word anno?

<April> hi anno!

<RubberRabb> that might help you with a sturdier surface on which to stamp
