<AmyLPR> my brayer makes a good paperweight

<Janet> okay! does everybody have their brayer??

<kat> hi all

<deb-cowgir> yesh

<Lynn> hI

Janet holds her brayer up to the monitor screen

<deb-cowgir> hold on

Janet holds her OTHER brayer up to the monitor screen

<debbie_in_> i got 3 of em...and a total of 7 brayer heads

deb-cowgirlGODDESS holds her brayer up to the monitor

Janet holds the THIRD brayer up to the monitor screen

<vicki> hey lib!!

<kat> hi lib

<Janet> LOL go Debbie!

<deb-cowgir> I have one rubber one and one foam one

<LiBsTeR> Heya Vicki!

<LiBsTeR> Hi Kat

<debbie_in_> i likes my brayers

<Janet> someone with more brayer heads than me!

<deb-cowgir> everyone grab your BRAYER

<debbie_in_> i uses my brayers all the time

<deb-cowgir> NOT that thang - y our BRAYER

<cak> (I got 2 soft, hard, acrylic and 2 sponge. Only used one once)

<louann> hi Lib

<AmyLPR> lol

<deb-cowgir> go get it out of the bedroom

Janet puts down the cat and grabs her brayer, not her meower

<debbie_in_> i have 9 big and juicy rainbow pads from Ranger too

<Scout> don't say that in a crowded room

<LiBsTeR> Hi Louann

<cak> lol

<deb-cowgir> lol

<LiBsTeR> ty Cak

<Janet> I even made a lil page, just to get the discussion started. (also because people always ask where the page is<g>)

deb-cowgirlGODDESS duct tapes heather to her seat

<debbie_in_> 1 acrylic, 2 soft, 2 sponge, 2 hard for me

<deb-cowgir> wow janet

<vicki> janet, where's the page??

<cak> lol (we always like to be thorough)

<Janet> oh. you wanna SEE the page, too??

<deb-cowgir> of course we do

<deb-cowgir> well yes duh

<AmyLPR> i havec a 6 inch and a 4 inch

<Janet> I thought just making it was enough.<g>

<deb-cowgir> lol

<debbie_in_> mine are all 4 inch

<beanjean21> rofl

<SleepyGirl> plenty good enough

<deb-cowgir> no - janet p that's only on Thursdays

[the logger was dropped momentarily here]

<Lynn> Hey, I got credited with saying something I didn't say!

<cak> (If it's good, don't correct Lynn)

<SleepyGirl> give me hat, Janet

<SleepyGirl> I feel nekkid

<deb-cowgir> who is sleepygirl

<SleepyGirl> me!

<SleepyGirl> lea

<deb> LOL Lea

<deb> hi lea

<SleepyGirl> on my new computer with no mirc

<SleepyGirl> hey deb

<deb> wow

<deb> get that mirc downloaded

<Janet> okay. so my little page at http://www.cyberstampers.com/class/brayer.html is really simple stuff. basics

<cak> (thank goodness)

<deb> cool page janet

<keribou> Nice class page Janet

<Lynn> I have patterned Fiskar brayers too.

<keribou> I like the samples

<SleepyGirl> I forgot how and I'm not hooked up to the printer so I can't print out Janet's directions...I'm screwed

<Scout> I have both those Stamp Camp stamps and adore them, but keep forgetting I have them......what a dummy!

<Janet> Lea. Bite me. this is brayer a background.

<Janet> oh and the waxed paper thing, but you know how to do that, don't you?

<deb> janet - cCAPS

<SleepyGirl> no, tell it

<Janet> (I didn't expect anyone not to know how to do this stuff, this was just so I contributed and would have 50 minutes to sit back and soak up all your ideas)

<Janet> LOL okay

<Janet> CAPS. SIGH.

<deb> thank you dahling mz prez

<Janet> THE BOTTOM THING ON THAT PAGE IS A WAXED PAPER RESIST BACKGROUND.

<Lory> some body say lea?

<SleepyGirl> ok, I am going to go try and ger mirc

<Janet> IT IS VERY VERY COOL

<SleepyGirl> later, chicks

<Janet> AND THERE SHE GOES. lol

<Lory> and ignored me

<Janet> ANYWAYS, YOU GET A PIECE OF WAXED PAPER, A BIT LARGER THAN THE CARDSTOCK YOU WANT TO MAKE THE BACKGROUND ON

<debbie_in_> those are neat Janet

<vicki> she had sleep in her eyes lory

<Janet> FOLD IT UP HOWEVER YOU WANT TO. THE ONE SHOWN i JUST FOLDED AND FOLDED IT INTO A LITTLE SQUARE

<beanjean21> wow, and it made that cool pattern?

<Janet> YOU CAN FOLD IT UP LIKE YOU'RE GOING TO BE CUTTING A SNOWFLAKE IF YOU WANT, THAT ENDS UP LOOKING SORT OF LIKE A TIE-DYED CIRCLE

<Janet> JUST FOLD IT. HOWEVER YOU DO.

<Janet> THEN MAKE A WAXED PAPER SANDWICH WITH CARDSTOCK - WAXED PAPER - CARDSTOCK

<debbie_in_> i like to brayer onto glossy for a scenic card, stamp with my stamp scapes, then use stipple brush and dark ink on corners...looks good

<Janet> AND IRON IT ON MEDIUM HEAT, BUT NOT FOR FOREVER, JUST ENOUGH TO GET THE CARDSTOCK SORTA WARM

<Janet> OH YEAH, YOU UNFOLD THE WAXED PAPER BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR SAMMICH

<deb> lol

<cak> Janet, do you press or iron? (glide the iron or just go up and down with it?)

<vicki> hey, momcat!

<Janet> SO YOU END UP WITH WAXED PAPER DESIGN ON BOTH PIECES OF CARDSTOCK, ONE IS A NEGATIVE SORTA KINDA OF THE OTHER

<debbie_in_> you can also just lay the wax paper over the cardstock, and take a stylus and draw, or use a stencil etc.

<Janet> GO AHEAD AND GLIDE, THIS DOESN'T REALLY SHIFT AROUND ON YOU CUZ THE CARDSTOCK IS ON THE OUTSIDE

<Janet> LET IT COOL OFF, THEN BRAYER INK ON IT

<Janet> VOILA. BACKGROUND.

<cak> thanks! (and less work too)

<Janet> oOOOO i NEVER THOUGHT OF DRAWING ON THE WAXED PAPER!!

<Janet> DID THAT MAKE SENSE?

<deb> yes

<cak> (Debbie Bacca's class log is at http://www.dm.net/~cak/unedtranscriptstuff/000729.html

<debbie_in_> i used to use my little brass stencils and wax paper and then brayer over...made neat layers for card fronts

<deb> thanks cak

<Janet> OOO THANK YOU CAK!

<Janet> THAT'S GONNA HAVE A MUCH MORE COMPLETE EXPLANATION

<cak> (i just put it up, so I actually remmebered it was there)

<Janet> i'VE PROBABLY MADE A HUNDRED OR MORE OF THESE SINCE COBACCA DID THAT CLASS.

<cak> it's a beautiful effect

<Janet> I LOVE DOING THIS. THEY'RE ALWAYS DIFFERENT AND SO EASY

AmyLPR has a brayer technique...

<Janet> DEBBIE, YOU SAID YOU USED WAXED PAPER TO MAKE A RESIST USING BRASS STENCILS?

<Janet> YES, AMY??

Janet HAS A BRAYER<G>

<cak> If you stamp on top of this, will any ink "stick"?

<AmyLPR> Brayer any Big 'N Juicy onto glossy cardstock the quickly spritz with water-makes a cool background

<cak> (permanent?)

<Janet> i NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH ANYTHING STICKING OR RATHER NOT STICKING.

<Janet> OOOOO COOL, AMY

<keribou> 3

<Janet> I'VE DONE IT WITH ALCOHOL SPRITZING, TOO. SAME THING, DIFFERENT LOOK

MomCat has a brayer question

<Janet> YES?

<AmyLPR> saw it on carol duvall

<deb> thanks amy

<MomCat> I bought a "soft rubber" (not foam) brayer

<debbie_in_> yes, I lay the wax paper over the glossy then lay the stencil, then draw the stencil outline, then brayer over with rainbow pad

<AmyLPR> welcome

<MomCat> and rolled it across some of my colorbox option pads

<MomCat> but when I put it on the paper, it is very light

<Janet> AND IT STILL HAS THE IMPRINT OF THAT?

<debbie_in_> yeah

<MomCat> I want, bright, dense color!!!!

<beanjean21> YEAH Gypsy made it!!!!!!!!!!!

<deb> MomCat

<Janet> YAY!

<MomCat> is there any way to get it

<Lory> yeah gypsy

<deb> what kind of paper di dyou use

beanjean21 pats herself on the back

<deb> momcat it should be bright and colorful if you use glossy paper

<Gypsyangel> Thanks beanjean21 and Lory

beanjean21 thanks Lory too

<deb> and dye inks

<vicki> momcat, you have to go over it several times

<MomCat> this was on a regular card stock

<deb> no diane

<deb> that sucks in the ink

<deb> you need to use glossy

<deb> try it you'll be amazed

<vicki> and use glossy paper

<deb> at the difference

<Janet> AND YOU MAY GET MORE OF THE LOOK YOU WANT BY DOING A RESIST ON THE PAPER RATHER THAN TRYING FOR A PATTERN ON THE BRAYER

<MomCat> okay

<deb> your eyes will pop out at the difference momcat

<cak> MomCat was the ink coating even from where you started the brayer and when you finished? (just curious)

<MomCat> yes

<cak> cool! thanks

<beanjean21> is the wax resist on glossy?

<MomCat> so I can't do this with pigment ink?

<debbie_in_> you can stamp with a Ranger Archival bright ink on glossy, then brayer over with Adirondack...and it makes a neat resist type effect

<beanjean21> I think I missed that

<Janet> I THINK MOMCAT WAS PUTTING AN INK PATTERN ON THE BRAYER, JEAN

<debbie_in_> yes, I do wax resist on glossy

<vicki> pigment ink wouldn't dry on glossy

<MomCat> I get the look I want if I do DTP with the Option sections

<MomCat> but that is more work

<beanjean21> ROFL janet, I was helping Gypsy and NOT paying attention during the wax resist

<MomCat> and hard on the pads

<Janet> OH. WELL, YOU DID THE GOOD DEED, I'M GLAD GYPSY IS HERE NOW :)

<Gypsyangel> Thank you both

<cak> did you just do one "rolling" Diane?

<beanjean21> me too, and she'll come back too right???

<MomCat> yes

<beanjean21> cause we're all so nice :)

<Janet> WITH THE WAXED PAPER RESIST, IT DOES SEEM TO POP OUT MORE IF YOU USE GLOSSY CARDSTOCK

<Gypsyangel> you bet

<beanjean21> thanks ajnet

<deb> I definitley think her problem was the regular pourous cardstock

<deb> because the ink soaks into the paper

<MomCat> I will try it on glossy

<deb> you'll love it - I promise

<Janet> PROBABLY SO. AND I'M NOT SURE IF WHAT SHE'S LOOKING FOR IS MORE BRIGHTER INK, OR GREATER CONTRAST

<MomCat> brighter ink

<Janet> GLOSSY WILL MAKE IT SHARPER FOR SURE

<beanjean21> I have LOTS of black glossy....

<deb> I think she's wanting brighter colors

<cak> I suspect everyone knows that you should store or even rest your brayer with the brayer roll down?

<beanjean21> any brayer ideas for it?

<beanjean21> no I didn't know that

<cak> Uh, should NOT

<Janet> NEVER REST YOUR BRAYER ON IT'S LITTLE ROLLER HEAD

<MomCat> BJ- Brilliance Ink

<Janet> ITS

<cak> it flattens the brayer and you don't roll so good then

<deb> yeah - store with the rubber up

<deb> on it's back

<beanjean21> oh ok momcat

<MomCat> I meant try Brilliance on your black glossy

<Janet> AND YOU ALL KNOW ABOUT THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF BRAYERS, RIGHT? AT FIRST i WAS TRYING THESE BACKGROUNDS PEOPLE WERE TELLING ME ABOUT AND MINE WASN'T DOING SO GOOD.

<beanjean21> yes, I understood :)

<cak> Brillance is pretty opaque I guess!

<beanjean21> I wish I had a tricolor brilliance pad

<Janet> BUT I DIDN'T KNOW THEY HAD SOFT RUBBER BRAYERS. I WAS USING MY BURNISHING LUCITE ONE

<vicki> brilliance would be beautiful on black glossy, BUT clean brayer immediately

<deb> bj - I have one

<deb> > )

<debbie_in_> for the black glossy, you could wrap rubber bands around your brayer head, roll across gold ink pad, and then onto black glossy and emboss

<Janet> OOOO THAT WOULD BE BEAUTIFUL!

<cak> yikes Janet! no wonder!

<beanjean21> oh cool debbie!!!!!!

<Janet> ONCE I BOUGHT A SOFT RUBBER BRAYER, MY BACKGROUNDS IMPROVED A LOT

<cak> that *would* be lovely

<debbie_in_> i use all sorts of stuff wrapped around my brayer heads

<beanjean21> deb, are you telling me that to share??????

<cak> (good tools make a big difference)

<deb> lol no bj

<Janet> (ALTHOUGH MY LUCITE ONE WORKS BEST WITH THE RUBBER BAND PLAID TRICK, AND IS THE TOPS FOR BURNISHING)

<debbie_in_> thats why I have so many...I have my good ones, and my experiment ones

<deb> just waving it in front of the monior

<deb> monitor to make yo ujealous

<deb> debbie - what else do you wrap around the brayer??

<debbie_in_> you can wrap lace, bubble wrap, textured wall paper samples

<cak> I always wondered if you could take an um to the brayer and stamp that way?

<cak> take = tape

<debbie_in_> I use one of my hard rubber ones, and double stick tape

<debbie_in_> and it stays on

<neetzl> I have one of those brayers with little stars all over the brayer. When I use it, the top part of the paper has lots of ink on it, but the bottom just fades away because the ink was all used up on the top. I can't reink because it won't go in the same place. Any suggestions?

<debbie_in_> then I just wash the tape residue off

<deb> neetzl what kind of paper did you use

<deb> and what kind of ink

<beanjean21> wow I never thought to put an UM on a brayer

<Janet> YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO. YOU CAN MAKE A WONDERFULLY REALISTIC GROVE OF TREES, FOR EXAMPLE, BY ROLLING OVER YOUR TREE STAMP THEN ROLLING IT OVER AND OVER THE PAPER

<beanjean21> great idea

<neetzl> Both glossy and regular cs.

<MomCat> I have a wood brayer for polyclay, I bet it would work with stamps

<vicki> cak, that's prolly what inspired rollagraphs

<Gypsyangel> what's um?

<cak> um = unmounted stamp

<deb> rubber - no wood

<cak> very handy for storing and cheap thrills (lot more stamps)

<debbie_in_> color your solid image stamps with marvy markers, brayer over this...reink the stamp brayer over in a new spot..repeat as many times as needed

<debbie_in_> then brayer this onto your glossy stock

<Gypsyangel> Oh cool, thanks I'll learn theshorthand yet

<MomCat> Neetzl, maybe roll halfway down the paper, reink and start from the other end

<LLB> Don't know about cheap, cak!

<debbie_in_> then with the ink still on your stamp huff, and then stamp onto your piece

<debbie_in_> looks very nice

<neetzl> OK, I'll try anyting.

<neetzl> anything.

<debbie_in_> then you can over stamp a saying with a darker color ink

<cak> (well, you speend the same $$, but lot more stamps!)

<Janet> OR FOR A COOL WAY TO COLOR IN AN IMAGE, LIKE A VASE OR SOMETHING YOU WANT SEMI-SOLIDLY COLORED, SCRIBBLE ON THE BRAYER WITH YOUR MARVEYS, MASK THE IMAGE AND THEN BRAYER

<LLB> How did I get ink on my stamp huff? (kidding)

<Janet> LOL

<MomCat> huff?

<Gypsyangel> I have some um's and the halos

<Janet> (IT HELPS TO DRINK SOMETHING BEFORE HUFFING A LOT, TOO. OTHERWISE YOU GET REALLY DRY)

<deb> lol

<debbie_in_> silly, you huff on the ink that is still on your solid image, that you were brayering with

<beanjean21> HEY

<deb> yes a dry huffer is NO good

<beanjean21> I just thought

<beanjean21> you know those Fiskar brayers

deb says - uh oh - bj is thinking

<beanjean21> and a SOLID image

<LLB> (true)

<beanjean21> ink up the image

<beanjean21> and then run a clean patterned brayer over it

<Janet> WELL, YEAH, YOU COULD BRAYER THE IMAGE TO GET THE DESIGN BEFORE STAMPING IT

<beanjean21> COOL

<beanjean21> like what's her name did with a stamp on CD

<beanjean21> but you'd get a REALLY even pattern!!!!

<beanjean21> dang wish I had one of those

<Janet> IF YOU HAVE A LARGE STAMP THAT'S BEEN HALO'D, RUB AN INK PAD ON THE HALOS SIDE, THEN BRAYER UP OFF THAT FOR A COOL TEXTURE BACKGROUND

<debbie_in_> yeah you can even do that with a background stamp on a solid image stamp

<deb> bj -= do you have any little tiny stamps??

<beanjean21> deb, yes

<Janet> (I DID THAT ON ACCIDENT ONCE AND IT WAS COOL SO I DO IT ON PURPOSE NOW)

<beanjean21> but MUCH quicker with a brayer

<beanjean21> lol janet

<deb> well it couldn't take too long - unles you have a huge image

<deb> hey EEB

<Janet> DROPPING INK PADS ON YOUR WORK TABLE OCCASIONALLY CAN PAY OFF :)

<deb> -E

<EB> hey all!!!!!

<Lynn> Neetzl...use on short sheets of paper

<EB> what is the class tonight?? (no topic)

<Janet> LOVE YOUR BRAYER!

<neetzl> TY. I'll try that.

<EB> sweet!

<EB> ty

<Janet> NOW WE'RE TOPICED

<debbie_in_> you can ink up the foam brayer, then spritz with water, and it will give you a water color effect

<Janet> OOO THAT WOULD BE NEAT

<beanjean21> gosh, I rarely use my foam brayer

<deb> wow cool

<deb> finally I can use that thang

<AmyLPR> sound kinky--love your brayer

<Janet> i TRIED A MODIFIED POLISHED STONE ON MY BRAYER (USED DYE REINKERS RATHER THAN THE ALCOHOL ONES) BUT THAT WASN'T ALL THAT GREAT

beanjean21 will get out those dang brayers and USE them NOW

<deb> I didn't know how to use it - I just had to HAVE one

<debbie_in_> you can also apply ink from marvy marker to the foam head, and then spritz...its a neat look

<Gypsyangel> I've had my foam brayer over a year and half and only used twice

<deb> you're doing better than me Gypsyangel

<Janet> (AMY, AFTER CLASS WE'LL GO OVER THE EXTRACURRICULAR BRAYER ACTIVITIES, SOME PHARMACISTS LOVE BEING BRAYERED)

<deb> I've used mine once maybe

<deb> roflol

<paperpushe> lol

<debbie_in_> i keep one of my foam brayers and a rainbow pad on my table at all times

<Scout> Isn't it funny how we had to have all these brayers, and then as newer and newer things came out, the brayer sort of got stuck in the back of them and forgotten about

<debbie_in_> makes quick backgrounds for envy's before mailing, then stamp some images and ready to send

<AmyLPR> lol

<beanjean21> geez debbie, that's WAY too organized

<Janet> EXCEPT I USE MINE ALL THE TIME. IT'S THE BEST FOR STICKING DOWN LAYERS

<deb> lol

<deb> me too janet

<beanjean21> well, only if it's CLEAN janet

<deb> I used mine on my dominos

<debbie_in_> if any one here has ever gotten an envy from me...you know I like to decorate them

<Scout> I wouldnt be without my wooden one for creasing sharply.

<Janet> CLEAN? UHHH I JUST PUT A SCRAP PAPER OVER THE TOP

<deb> me too

<deb> lol

<cak> (you know you now have to send us all envelopes, just so we can see, right debbie?)

<Janet> YOUR ENVIES ARE AWESOME, DEBBIE

<LLB> I've used mine on detailed stamps, but I HATE cleaning it. (Hard rubber brayer, me)

<beanjean21> janet I LOVE the colors on the wax resist one....do you know what they are?

<debbie_in_> well, if you join my swap, you will get a decorated envy...LOL

<Janet> THAT WAS ADIRONDACK GINGER AND BUTTERSCOTCH AND UHHH THE OTHER ONE IN THE SAME COLOR FAMILY. TERRACOTTA?

<beanjean21> lol, next time around debbie

<cak> (rats, I knew there was a catch)

<debbie_in_> LOL

<beanjean21> ok thanks

<Janet> AND THE GOLD ONE, I FORGOT THAT NAME TOO

<beanjean21> hi brenda

<Janet> HEY BRENDA

<brenda> hello everyone

<Janet> I KNOW BRENDA USES HER BRAYER A LOT

<paperpushe> thanks MomCat

<beanjean21> isn't the gold butterscotch

<debbie_in_> i have all the Adirondack inks, they are my favs

<Gypsyangel> I'm moving to Germany in 3 weeks and will be without most of my stamps for 60 days. I'm trying to make lots of fast backgrounds to carry with me to stamp on in the hotel while looking for a house.

<brenda> no i dont

<EB> hey brenda!

<cak> there's always the old stand-by of stamping with Versamark on glossy and brayering with dye inks (rainbow usually)

<MomCat> you're welcome, Paper

<beanjean21> cool gypsy!

<Janet> GYPSY, SOUNDS LIKE AN OUTSTANDING EXCUSE FOR A HEIN-DESIGN RUN TO ME

<vicki> gypsy, you can come here and talk about stamping

<Scout> Oh, did you guys see the thing in the paper about so many people getting stopped in the airport for having scissors with them?

<keribou> or you can scribble/ draw on glossy with a white gel ben and brayer over to make a resist

<Scout> Don't plan on doing any cutting on the plane!

<Gypsyangel> HEIN-DESIGN?

<cak> the gel inks act as a resist??!! cool

<Janet> (THEY MAIL ORDER, TOO, LAST TIME I WENT TO GERMANY I ORDERED AHEAD OF TIME AND HAD THEM SHIP TO MY HOTEL, SAVED A WHOLE LOTTA MONEY, THAT I, UH, SPENT ON STAMPS)

<debbie_in_> do you need to heat set the gel pen...or allow a dry time

<LLB> Scout, I got my embroidery scissors taken away from me in Traffic Court!

<keribou> I just let the gel pen dry

<Gypsyangel> Good idea to mail to myself. I have adress already.

<cak> Keribou, have you tried it with any other colors?

<Gypsyangel> I'm carfully packing sharp thing in luggage to go in bottom of the plane

<Gypsyangel> TY Janet

<Scout> Just don't have them in carry on luggage.

<cak> other gel pen colors, that is

<Janet> Y'ALL WITH YOUR CRAFT SUPPLIES ON PLANES. I ALWAYS JUST SLEEP.

<beanjean21> lol janet

<Janet> BUT!!! A BRAYER IS ON THE ALLOWED LIST :)

<Gypsyangel> TY again Janet. You are a fountain of info

<beanjean21> well, I need to hit the sack

<beanjean21> yes this was fun

<debbie_in_> I don't fly

<beanjean21> have a safe trip Gypsy and come to talk to us!

<brenda> janet i couldnt begin to travel without supplies

<vicki> i think brayer on plane might be a bit messy

<Scout> II suppose you could always bean a highjacker with a brayer....

<beanjean21> bye everyone!!!!!!!

<cak> are we done already?

<Janet> I FLY A LOT. AND I ALWAYS JUST SLEEP. EVEN WHEN I PACK CRAFT STUFF TO DO ON THE PLANE

<beanjean21> night!!!

<Janet> NO! SOMEONE HAS GOT TO TEACH ME MORE NEW BRAYER TRICKS!!

<deb> lol scout

<cak> (and I still want an answer from Keribou!)

<Legs> heh heh

<Legs> I did it

<deb> hi lea

<Gypsyangel> I'll come back as often as I can till my computer is packed. Thanks everyone it's been fun

<deb> yeah!!

<Legs> thanks, ,Lory

<Janet> AND HERE'S JUST THE GAL TO DO IT. LEA, TEACH ME SOMETHING COOL TO DO WITH MY BRAYER

<keribou> cak- waht was the question?

<Lory> thats my baby

<deb> thanks Gypsyangel

<LLB> I've only flown once, since. I gotta say I can't see stamping on a plane.

<MomCat> Gypsy, visit us from Germany

<debbie_in_> you can make a faux bamboo effect, for backgrounds, by wrapping rubber bands of differnt sizes around brayer

<keribou> what about Jhone's faux momi paper- you usea brayer for that

<cak> have you used any other colors besides white with your gel pen technique?

<Janet> TRAVEL SAFE, AND ENJOY THE GERMAN STAMPS. AND COME IN HERE TO VISIT. I KNOW QUITE A FEW STAMPERS IN GERMANY

<debbie_in_> then use different green inks

<debbie_in_> use this as a background for another layer

<Janet> KERIBOU! TELL HOW TO DO THAT!!

<deb> wow cool debbie

<keribou> cak- NO- not yet- I was trilled white worked

<debbie_in_> and the part that shows kinda looks like bamboo

<cak> lol!

<keribou> ok- Jhone taught this at convention in the fall I think

<cak> (I am too)

<Scout> My daughter just flew back from vacation and an hour into the flight the attendent dumped a coke all over her and she had to sit for 5 hours in soaked clothing. Also on the guy next to her.

<Legs> well, I like to do the ting where you ink up a stamp or color it with markers or whatever.....one of those bold, silhouette stamps, and then roll your brayer over that to pick up a reverse impression

<Gypsyangel> I'll be back as soon as I have access to a computer in Germany too.

<MomCat> I think I would stamp images ahead of time and color with colored pencils on the plane.

<Gypsyangel> I have some of that and lots of mags I haven't had tome to read all articles on stamping

<debbie_in_> thats one of my favs lea, I love to do that

<MomCat> Oh, Gypsy, if you pack markers in your luggage besure to put them in water proof containers, in case the reduced air pressure causes them to leak.

<Janet> THAT'S LIKE MY TREE GROVE CARD, WHERE I INK UP TREE STAMPS AND ROLL OVER THEM THEN BRAYER THAT OVER AND OVER, THE LIGHTER STAMPED-OFF ONES LOOK LIKE IN THE DISTANCE

<Janet> KERIBOU, TELL ABOUT THE FAUX MOMI

<Gypsyangel> TY for the tip MomCat. I'm not mush of a flyer

<keribou> Faux momi paper- ala Jhone- crumple some brown paper, uncrumple it, get it wet- I run mine under the faucet, shake off the dripped water, flatten it on some newspaper, and drizzle on 2-3 colors of Lumiere paint and smooth it with a brayer just enough to cover the blank areas on the paper, let it dry and it is beautiful

<Janet> I DID THAT AFTER YOU TOLD ME BEFORE AND IT IS BEAUTIFUL!!

<Janet> EVEN MINE WERE :)

<Lory> even i did it, lol

<Gypsyangel> keribou, that sounds lovely

<Janet> (ANOTHER REASON TO ALWAYS ASK FOR PAPER RATHER THAN PLASTIC IN THE GROCERY)

<Janet> HEY KRIZ

<debbie_in_> I did that with white text weight paper, and acrylic paints...metallic and glazes

<keribou> Jhone sold me on those Lumiere paints with that technique

<keribou> but it does work with regular acrylic paints- like you get at the M store

<Kriztina> hey

<keribou> but the metallics aren't as bright as the Lumieres

<Janet> I'M A LUMIERE ADDICT

<Janet> I EVEN STAMP WITH 'EM

<vicki> jhone has hooked everyone on lumieres, i think she must add nicotine

<Janet> AS INK

<keribou> this technique works on brown parcel paper also- which is sometimes thinner

<Janet> LOL!

<keribou> you can run this paper through the Xyron and use it to make books

<keribou> cover mini books

<Janet> (ohhhh i just made it, i never used it)

<brenda> lol

<debbie_in_> i made a mini pocket book today...using a tag and accordian die cut

<vicki> lol

<Janet> (i just make elements never finished things<g>)

<keribou> brb- toddler bedtime

<brenda> jaet we have to be sisters

<Janet> LOL WE DO!

<Janet> (i ALWAYS WANTED A TALENTED SISTER)

<debbie_in_> y'all, I really need someone to stamp with

<LLB> accordion. I am an administrator in a music school. It's accordion.

<MomCat> LOL

<Janet> SO WHO ELSE USES THEIR BRAYER???

<Gypsyangel> aren't all stampers sisters?

<brenda> true gypsy

<Legs> I mostly use my brayer to ink stamps

<debbie_in_> does anyone want to come to alabama and play...I have lots of stuff...and really need to share it

<Lory> no some of us are married to each other

<Legs> I am so boring but it gives you the best prints

<Janet> LOL

<keribou> wrap plastic wrap around your brayer and get a neat background

<Janet> IT DOES FOR SURE, THAT EVEN INK COVERAGE

<Gypsyangel> Cool to have a stamping marriage

<Janet> AND BIG STAMPS, AFTER I BRAYER ON THE INK WITH ONE BRAYER, I PUT THE PAPER ON THE STAMP (RATHER THAN THE USUAL STAMP TO PAPER) AND BRAYER THE BACKSIDE OF THE PAPER WITH MY OTHER BRAYER

<Lory> and then some are stamping bigamists

<Janet> (not to mention any lea names)

<Gypsyangel> lol

<Legs> I am only married to one girl

<Lory> or janet names

<paperpushe> I don't have a wife, but I have two mothers

<Legs> that is a great idea Janet

Janet blushes

<Legs> but I thought you never actually stamped

<Janet> I DO OCCASIONALLY.

<Janet> IF I DO IT THAT WAY, I DON'T HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL I HAVE MY NEW PURCHASES MOUNTED. I JUST USE THE BARE RUBBER

Lory smacks her wife and tells her to shaddup cause Janet is pretending to make a good impression (pun intended)

<Legs> I use my brayer too to adhere papers that I have Xyroned to make them sticky

<Gypsyangel> I have 23 card pals and need to make lots of cards so I appreciate the ideas for brayer backgrounds. Will help a lot on speedy cards.

<Legs> hit me again, honey

<Janet> I ALSO BRAYER UP NEW PLATES OF RUBBER AND MAKE A BIG IMPRESSION OF THE WHOLE THING, TO PERPETUATE THE ILLUSION I'M GONNA FILE THEM NEATLY

<cak> My paper always seems to shift when I apply paper to stamp (and I get an imcomplete impression stamp to paper)

<AmyLPR> lol

<Legs> my favorite brayer thang is that old resist with the clear inks

<Legs> did ya'll do that yet?

<Janet> SORTA KINDA

<Legs> ok

<Janet> AND JOSEPH COAT TOO

<Janet> YA GOTTA HOLD IT DOWN ON THE CORNER

<LiBsTeR> Legs, how do you do old resist with the clear inks??

<Legs> ya gotta use that matte finish clay coated paper for the best effect

<Legs> then stamp it all over with clear embossing ink

<Janet> (actually i think i put my whole palm across one half of it, brayer the other half, then carefully shift hands)

<Legs> let it dry and then brayer with maybe a rainbow pad

<Gypsyangel> I made a file so if stamps get lost in move I can make govet replace them. To expensive to lose even if I do mostly buy stamps from mark down baskets or on sale.

<Legs> then over stamp with different colored inks

<Legs> it looks like fabric

<LiBsTeR> OOO OK! :-) Thanks dear!

<neetzl> What is matte finish clay coated paper?

<Legs> you're welcome

<Janet> oooo I like that overstamp idea. I've never done that.

<cak> (I'll try that Janet--I might actually be able to pull that one off)

<Janet> like KromeKoat

<Legs> I like that technique because you CANNOT make it look bad

<Legs> but its not shiny

<Legs> you can do it on kromekote, right?

<debbie_in_> http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DieCutProjects/

<Janet> well, someone brilliant taught me that if you want a matte finish and needed to stamp on glossy to get the sharpest image, you could spray with matte finish Krylon spray afterwards

<debbie_in_> y'all check out my die cuts projects site...lots of ideas and great die cuts too

<cak> I bet you could apply embossing ink with scrunched up plastic wrap and then brayer over it too==for a textured background?

<Janet> oooo yeah, that would be way cool

<Legs> and what that thing with thwe wax paper and the iron?

<Janet> I like brayering ink on top of stuff like bubble wrap and then mashing the paper down to it

<Legs> you crumple the wax paper, right?

<Janet> okay Lea, now listen up.

<Janet> I'LL EVEN PUT ON THE CAPS

<debbie_in_> i did that cak, then brayered, then stamped with darker color with scrunched plastic wrap...looked cool

<Legs> apply that to the cardstock, then iron it and then brayer it with dye ink

<Legs> it looks like rice grains

<MomCat> When I do paper to stamp, I lay a hardbound book on the paper and press the book all over with my hands

<Janet> GET YOUR PIECE OF WAXED PAPER, A LITTLE BIGGER THAN YOUR CARDSTOCK, OH AND YOU DO TWO BACKGROUNDS AT ONE TIME, SO TWO PIECES OF CARDSTOCK (GLOSSY WORKS BEST)

<Janet> FOLD UP YOUR PIECE OF WAXED PAPER, HOWEVER YOU WANT TO FOLD IT, THE SAMPLE WAS JUST FOLDED AND FOLDED INTO A LITTLE SQUARE

<Janet> BUT IF YOU DO LIKE YOU'RE GONNA CUT A SNOWFLAKE, IT LOOKS LIKE A TIE-DYED CIRCLE

<Janet> THEN UNFOLD THE WAXED PAPER

<Janet> PUT IT INBETWEEN THE TWO SHEETS OF CARDSTOCK

<Janet> THEN IRON IT ON MEDIUM HEAT

<Janet> NOT FOR FOREVER, JUST UNTIL THE CARDSTOCK GETS WARM

<Janet> LET IT COOL OFF, THEN BRAYER OVER IT

<Scout> You guys have given so many wonderful ideas tonite, I want to send hubbie somewhere for all of next week so I can play.

<Janet> VOILA. WAXED PAPER FAUX BATIK BACKGROUNDS

<Gypsyangel> cool!!!!

<Janet> send mine with him, Scout, he's driving me bats lately

<Gypsyangel> I'll try that tomorrow Janet

<Lynn> I use a brayer after squirting Liquid Applique/let dry/ for suede look.

<Janet> try it! it's a ton of fun and they always turn out so cool

<Scout> of course, we NEVER dry them batty

<Janet> How do you do that, Lynn? I vaguely remember but mine never worked right.

<cak> I forgot about that one Lynn--never done it though

<Janet> (we NEVEr do, nope nope)

<Scout> drive

<Lynn> It's best to use small pieces of paper and to work quickly.

<Lynn> Strange things to do with brayer:

<Scout> If you "dry" them batty, does that mean you hang them from the line with their arms stretched out, secured with clothespins?

<Janet> (don't tempt me, Scout. i told him he was driving me bats today, he said "short trip" and snorted)

<vicki> really strong clothespins

<Lynn> 1. Brayer clean dry eggshells for bird nest card! 2, brayer crackers through plastic bag for crumbs for cooking.

<Janet> oooo brayer as crumb smasher! what a great idea!!

<cak> Lynn--do you squirt some on a piece of scrap paper and then get it even on the brayer and then put it on the paper OR do you put the LA right on the paper to begin with?

<MomCat> Gotta run, thanks, all for the great idea and thanks, Janet!

<Lynn> Right on cs

<Janet> good luck with getting brighter colors, Diane

<Lynn> Best on watercolor paper swatches!

<MomCat> thanks

<cak> do you have any problems with it being uneven or do just brayer it into submission?

<Lynn> Practice helps. Sometimes it is uneven.

<LLB> I have to go, too. Night all. Thanks

vstamp looks around to see who kicked her

<cak> although uneven is not necessarily a bad thing

<Lynn> Answer> small pieces of paper

<Scout> oooh. I like that "brayer it into submission"!

<Janet> brayer it into submission. I like that phrase. my backgrounds get the streaks sometimes and that's exactly what i do to get rid of the streaks, brayer it into submission

deb sticks her feet under her chair

Janet points at deb

deb looks at Mz Prez

<deb> uh oh

<deb> lol

<deb> JANET

Janet looks innocently at the ceiling. innocently at the floor, innocently everywhere but at vicki

<cak> (it's a little less hurtful than gaveling someone into submission)

<vicki> lol

<Janet> LOL

<deb> lol

<deb> good class janet

<Janet> KAT! you awake?

<Janet> good class everybody. I learned more than I taught again (I love these kinda classes)

<deb> anyone have any classes they'd like to see taught?????

<Gypsyangel> Ya'll must type a lot faster then I do.

<brenda> sorry i was late

<vicki> this was a good class janet

<brenda> great class what i caught

<deb> brenda has to teach cause she was late

<brenda> lol

<cak> (you'll improve rapidly GA--out of necessity. And you learn to speed read too)

deb writes her down

<cak> lol
