<secondstar> CLASS SAMPLES ARE AT http://secondstarontheright.com/glitteredcharms.htm

<secondstar> OK - ARE WE READY TO START?

<Kristin> yes!

<stubby> yes

<cak> I am!

<manybooks> ready!

<brenda> yes

<phyl> yup yup ready

<secondstar> THERE IS A LIST OF MATERIALS AND A PHOTO (FIGURE 1) ON THE CLASS PAGE

<StudioB> Hiya stampslut!

<secondstar> HEY LINDA!!

<StudioB> Er, I meant to say -- Hi Linda!

<LindaR> Hi everyone

<secondstar> WE'LL START WITH THE CHARMS - THEN DO THE WIRES

<LindaR> great looking project deb!

<phyl> utterly charming

<secondstar> FIRST, PREPARE THE SHRINK PLASTIC PER MANUFACTURES DIRECTIONS

<secondstar> TY

<secondstar> YOU MIGHT PLAY WITH THIS A BIT

<secondstar> I FIND THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAND IF YOU STAMP WITH BRILLIANCE INK

<phyl> really?

<StudioB> love that brilliance

<brenda> oh neat

<phyl> this is good news thanks

<cak> thank goodness!!

<manybooks> great!

<phyl> lol

<secondstar> STAMP THE WINE AND MUSIC STAMPS AND ALLOW TO DRY 5-10 MINUTES

<secondstar> CUT OUT AND PUNCH A HOLE IN THE TOP CENTER OF EACH PIECE

<anno> oh good.. sanding was always my worst step..

<phyl> regular hand punch?

<secondstar> SHRINK ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURERS DIRECTIONS

<secondstar> I USE ONE OF THE SMALLER FISCARS ROUND PUNCHES - 1/16TH I THINK

<phyl> ok

<secondstar> APPLY GLUE AND GLITTER TO BACK OF CHARM - SHOWN IN FIGURE 3

<cak> what kind of adhesive do you use for this deb?

<secondstar> I USED CRYSTAL RAINBOW GLITTER FOR THE MUSIC CHARMS

<secondstar> DRIES CLEAR ADHESIVE

<secondstar> ANY PPA TYPE WOULD WORK

<cak> Oh! sorry I thought that was just a generic name

<phyl> brb cat having hunger pains and becomes a pain

<manybooks> is that like Crystal lacquer?

<secondstar> I FOUND THAT THE TRANSPARENT GLITTERS GAVE A SOFTER, PRETTIER LOOK THAT THE OPAQUE ONES

<secondstar> SORT OF LIKE WHITE GLUE

<secondstar> BUT CRYSTAL LACQUER WOULD WORK

<secondstar> OR.........

<secondstar> FUTURE FLOOR WAX

<manybooks> lol

<AliciaG> woo future

<cak> cool, so it's adhesive enough? Yay!

<StudioB> love that future floor wax

<brenda> another way o use future

<secondstar> AFTER YOU HAVE THE GLITTER ON THEM SET THEN ASIDE TO DRY

<StudioB> (where the cat won't step on the drying glitter)

<Starofhearts> Where can you buy Future Floor Wax?

<secondstar> MOST GROCERY STORES

<StudioB> Hardware store

<AliciaG> the supermarket

<AliciaG> near the floor cleaners

<Starofhearts> ty

<paperpusher> I bought mine at wallyworld

<phyl> lol

<April> lol

<secondstar> NOW- ON TO THE WIRES

<April> good asany!

<phyl> i'm wired

<secondstar> AND IF THERE ARE ANY REAL JEWELRY MAKERS IN THE CLASS

<StudioB> you're punny, phyl

<phyl> lol studio

<secondstar> THEY AREN'T GOING TO LAUGH TOO HARD

<secondstar> OR LOUD

<secondstar> OR LONG

<StudioB> oh yeah?

<cak> lol--good!

<secondstar> I FOUND THAT YOU COULD GET JUST THE RIGHT SIZE WIRE BY WRAPPING IT AROUND A WINE CORK

<anno> heh.. is that a threat, or a promise?

<phyl> experiments pay off

StudioB is suppressing her chuckles

<LindaR> not me, I'd never laugh

<secondstar> YOU WANT TO WRAP IT SO THAT IT OVERLAPS ABOUT 1/2"

<secondstar> AND THEN CUT TO SIZE

<StudioB> many things work well wrapped around a wine cork

<phyl> example?

<phyl> dh's tounge so he gets tongue tied?

<StudioB> you got it, phyl

<phyl> don't i wish

<secondstar> USING ROUND NOSE PLIERS

<phyl> lol

<secondstar> MAKE A LOOP IN ONE END OF THE WIRE

<secondstar> AND TWIST 90 DEGREES

<secondstar> FIGURE 5 SHOWS THE LOOP LYING FLAT

<brenda> hello guest

<phyl> good pics

<secondstar> AND FIGURE 6 SHOWS IT AFTER IT HAS BEEN TWISTED

<brenda> you made it sber

<StudioB> where's the Lool?

<secondstar> AND THEN PUT IT BACK ONTO THE CORK AND PULL TIGHT TO SHAPE THE WIRE AND MAKE THE HOOK

<secondstar> TRIM OFF THE EXCESS WIRE FROM BOTH ENDS

<Sber> Yeah! those charms are great!

<secondstar> INSERT A JUMP RING INTO THE THE HOLE IN THE CHARM

<secondstar> THEN STRING SOME BEADS, THE CHARM AND SOME MORE BEADS ONTO THE WIRE

<secondstar> TA DAH!!

<LindaR> Is there a second page of illustrations?

<secondstar> JUST THE ONE

<LindaR> OK

<phyl> beeooteeful

<LindaR> I like these. THe charms they sell are SO expensive

<LindaR> I'll have to get the Cabernet plate

<secondstar> NOW - THE CLASS SPECIALS :)

<Sber> yippee!

<secondstar> OCTOBER IS COEUR D'LANE,TACOMA,ST PAUL AND KANSAS CITY

<cak> I didn't know you carried glitters deb--they're lovely

<phyl> dang

<LindaR> wow, you're doing quite a few conventions

<StudioB> that's a lot of traveling!

<Sber> Well gee Deb I'll have to stop by and say hi in person in Portland

<secondstar> PORTLAND LABOR DAY WEEKEND

<secondstar> 7 WEEKS - 7 CONVENTIONS

<secondstar> JUST GOT BACK FROM ST PAUL

<secondstar> HAD A GREAT TIME!

<Susie> You could also use memory wire for this. Ithink the ring size would be perfect.

<Sber> oh my goodness! you are so busy

<secondstar> THE RINGS FOR MAKING SOME EARRINGS WILL WORK TOO

<secondstar> BUT THEY ARE PRICEY

<cak> that's a good idea Susie--can you put little stopper curls in the memory wire?

<LindaR> If you use memory wire, do NOT use good wire cutters to cut the memory wire, it will ruin them

<StudioB> I wonder how a thin sheet of mica behind the glitter would work?

<secondstar> GOT THE AFRICA BOOK - LINDA

<Susie> Yeah. Memory wire is cool cause it spring back to shape. But I think only silver colored and dull gray are available.

<secondstar> IT IS AWESOME

<LindaR> memory wire is really stiff, you can make a loop, but not real neat or small

<Susie> Yes, NO good cutters!

<StudioB> lindar -- so what do you use to cut your memory wire?

<Susie> I worked at a bead store and several employees ruined several cutters that way!

<LindaR> Try gluing a small bead on the end, not sure what glue would work best.

<Susie> You can put curls into it. It takes more strength as it is harder to work.

<Susie> Use hypo bead cement. Superglue might work as well.

<secondstar> ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS FOR THE WIRES, LINDA?

<LindaR> I have one wrecked pair which I use only for memory wire, they got wrecked cause I didn't know the wire would chew up the cutters

<secondstar> YOU'RE THE PRO WHEN IT COMES TO BEADS AND WIRES :)

<manybooks> Hi Smacdona! It's a small world ;)

<Susie> Someone makes memory wire cutters.

<Susie> I forgot what I used last time.

<LindaR> I think they sell a super hardened type of cutter, specially for memory wire

<manybooks> Howdy Smacdona - small world!

<StudioB> interesting . . . I've just been using the old cutters I ruined, liek Linda

<LindaR> THanks deb :)

<secondstar> I'LL BE TEACHING A CLASS ON EMBOSSING TECHNIQUES TOMORROW

<secondstar> :)

<Susie> Also you can put a small loop on the end, and then put a small bead on an eyepin and attach one to each loop to make it pretty.

<smacdona> Hi linda!

<LindaR> Hi!

<LindaR> SUsie, thats a nice finish too.

<cak> when are you teaching deb?

<StudioB> Deb -- it's billed as "advanced" embossing? what sort of techniques?

<secondstar> INSTEAD OF A SINGLE PROJECT, I'LL BE GIVING YOU EVERY TECHNIQUE THAT I CAN THINK OF

<cak> oooo, that sounds lovely too Susie (I love beads)

<secondstar> SOURCES FOR MOLDING PUTTY

<secondstar> TIPS ON MIXING YOUR OWN POWDERS

<StudioB> tx, Linda

<Sber> I'm pretty much a clear embossing powder kind of girl with all colors of pigment inks!

<secondstar> SOME OF THE PODERS WITH GLITTERS IN THEM ARE TO DIE FOR

<Sber> I'm a cheap crafter and have to make things be really multi purpose

<phyl> i looooove embossing powders

<Susie> yeah glitter EP is cool. Other sometime glitter rubs off with handling, at least the one I have.

<Sber> I do have several colors of pearl-ex though
