<stamperverb2> so this channel is for real-time online classes?

<brenda> yes stamper

<stamperverb2> ok, that's a new one fore this long-time IRC chatter!

<brenda> good

<brenda> glad to have you

<stamperverb2> thanks

<paperafk> where do you usually hang in irc, stamper?

<stamperverb2> is there a calendar published somewhere?

<brenda> http://www.cyberstampers.com/schedule.html

<brenda> there ya go

<stamperverb2> and a list of the channels?

<paperafk> this is pretty much it

<kristi> just type /list

<kristi> when you

<brenda> it is on the schedule what channel

<kristi> r logged on

<cak> I think Dueling Modems has a list of all the regular chats on one of their pages.

<brenda> stamper did you get the addy to email?

<stamperverb2> ok, thanks!

<brenda> give her your name and address so she can send your prize

<stamperverb2> I am new to dueling modems today

<brenda> welcome

<cak> For us, we usually have a rubberstamping class every Sat night and other crafts in #craftclass on Tuesdays. They're lots of fun

<brenda> glad you found us

<stamperverb2> yes I got an email addy but not sure what to do next -- i guess i "won" sumthin!

<brenda> yep

<brenda> just send her an email

<brenda> and tell her you won

<stamperverb2> ok, will do later

<brenda> k

<cak> (you'll love Char's stuff--she's a very talented carver)

<stamperverb2> I have been carving stamps since before there were art stamp companies

<brenda> really?

<brenda> wow

<brenda> neato

<brenda> i want to learn carving

<stamperverb2> yep, when i was into mail art, many moons ago

<cak> you might be interested in #cc too then--carvers chatting on ??Friday??

<brenda> think that is when

<cak> (it'll be on the schedule)

<brenda> or wed nite

<paperafk> usually it's 9pm

<stamperverb2> are you saying there is a chat of STAMP CARVERS!!! < lo>

<brenda> i cant belive i finished this early

<brenda> yes stamper

<paperafk> yep stamper

<stamperverb2> yikes

<paperafk> I carve, too

<paperafk> glad to have you aboard

<kristi> as do I (when my wrist was working properly anyway)

<stamperverb2> I went away from stamping when it got overrun with cutesy stuff

<cak> what can we say==we're obssessive

<paperafk> kristi is a phenomenal carver

<kristi> ty paper

<kristi> I miss it terribly

<kat-afk> i carve

<brenda> cutesy is not for everyone

<kristi> yes, kat and paper are good carvers as well

<paperafk> I'm just a hack, but it's lots of fun

<brenda> lol

<brenda> paper is good

<kristi> there are plenty people in the mall that offer great non-cute options too

<stamperverb2> does any of you still here have a stamp company?

<paperafk> yeah, many of us here are anti-cute

<cak> Janet's going to be teaching a ribbon embroidery class in #craftclass in a couple of minutes (and she don't do cute)

<brenda> i am not anti cute

<stamperverb2> lol

<brenda> i do it all

<brenda> roflol

<paperafk> hehe

<kristi> there are some instances that require cute, but I most steer clear, LOL

<kat-afk> It depends on who I am sending something to whether I use cute or not

<stamperverb2> where can I read about what this mall is all about, etc...? I sorta landed here today a la Dorothy

<miatagal> sorry Iwas late for class in this room - i bet I missed something good!!!

<kat-afk> for me it's not cute

<paperafk> www.cyberstampers.com

<kristi> exactly, Kat - if I'm sending to my 6 yo nephew then it's usually cute

<cak> well, keepin mind that there are 3 of these online conventions each year!

<cak> (as well as the regular weekly classes)

<kristi> its a great resource of information and supplies :-)

<brenda> we certainly hope so

<stamperverb2> I am amazed at all the online stuff about stamping -- just when I GOT MY ARMS AROUND POLYMER CLAY STUFF!

<stamperverb2> oops, sorry for CAPS

<brenda> mj next class is in #craftclass

<brenda> we even have some classes about clay

<mj> thanks...how'd you know what I was looking for :-.

<cak> uh, sv, we do a fair number of pc classes too

<brenda> when we can get teachers

<stamperverb2> wowsers

<brenda> mind reader mj

<mj> you're too good...

<stamperverb2> as soon as I discovered pc I thought about stamps

<brenda> someone requests something we go begging for teachers

<brenda> lol mj

<miatagal> steppin out for a moment brb

<mj> catch up with you later!

<stamperverb2> how many folks belong to this www.cyberstampers.com

<brenda> bye mj

<brenda> who knows stamper

<brenda> we sure dont

<brenda> janet may know

<stamperverb2> time to get clay from oven--BRB

<brenda> k

<stamperverb2> whew! got there in time!

<brenda> we have a ribbon embroidery class next if you want to join

<cak> you going to join us in #craftclass?

<brenda> glad it didnt burn

<stamperverb2> ribbon embroidery? doesn't sound like stamping!

<stamperverb2> me too, brenda

<cak> we are multi-faceted, what can i say??

<brenda> yep

<stamperverb2> working with the new Kato PolyClay

<brenda> we cover it all

<stamperverb2> translucent

<brenda> is that the metal clay?

<cak> actually Janet is tying it into card embellishment

<brenda> ah translucent

<stamperverb2> nope, she created a new polymer clay

<cak> how is it different from the Premo?

<stamperverb2> I have just started using it, cak

<stamperverb2> for one thing, the transl. doesn't seem to plaque--yippee!!

<cak> you know (she says slyly) brenda is one of our class schedulers. How would you feel about teaching a class?

<brenda> lol

<brenda> cak ty

<brenda> will have to give you a raise

<stamperverb2> and it seems to cane better than Premo, not as well as Classic Fimo

<brenda> roflol

<brenda> nothing to +nothing

<brenda> neato

<stamperverb2> folks, I need to go to doctor--glad to have metcha

<brenda> i can t handle fimo at all

<brenda> come again

<cak> come backsoon!

<stamperverb2> hopefully I can follow the breadcrumb trail back here at the same time y'all R here

<brenda> sure

<stamperverb2> <gri>

<brenda> lol

<cak> just remeber the schedule is in Eastern time!

<brenda> afternoons and evenings are best times

<cak> (we'll lay out a trail of non-cute dies)

<brenda> lol

<stamperverb2> that's no prob -- one child is in Boston, other in China -- I now have 4 wall clocks set to diff. time zones

<brenda> lol

<brenda> i would stay confused

<stamperverb2> and a client is in London

<sparkle> sv, how do you like hte katoclay?

<stamperverb2> katoclay ok, have been playing w/it a coupla days

<sparkle> I'm a die hard premo gal <>

<stamperverb2> there has been a wide range of reactions in the clay community

<sparkle> but I want to get my hands on some katoclay to play with.

<sparkle> yes, I've been trying to ignore it until I can get my hands on some <>

<stamperverb2> hehehe I am a diehard original-fimo person

<sparkle> I've got really warm hands, fimo classic is even easy for me to condition

<sparkle> LOL

<stamperverb2> you might want to order a sampler of katoclay

<sparkle> I should, when I have 2 minutes to play <>

<stamperverb2> lol

<sparkle> I'm going to be making all the light plate covers for our new house when we move in next spring...

<stamperverb2> yeah, I have gotten sidetracked with buying and using stamps!

<sparkle> I haven't decided if I'm going to do them in glass or clay

<stamperverb2> glass????

<sparkle> yes, my passion is glass fusing

<sparkle> I'm not very good at it yet, but I love it

<stamperverb2> wow

<sparkle> and next year I want to start taking some stained glass classes...

<sparkle> so I can put decorative windows in the new house <>

<stamperverb2> you are ambitious!

<stamperverb2> ok, gotta go to app't -- C U L8tr

<cak> bye sv

<kristi> oo, stained glass is fun!

<kristi> future mil taught me last year and boy am I glad as she can't do it any longer because of her arthritis

<kristi> it makes me super critical of stained glass stamps though - so many out there would not be real stained glass

<cak> Don't tell me we're all going to be quiet and behave this afternoon?

<brenda> not me

<Janet> y'all were too good in my class

<brenda> cak i never behave

<cak> good for you brenda

<brenda> was not too quiet

paprpushr has been sitting on her fingers all convention

<Janet> i didn't know how to behave everybody was so good

<cak> and Janet, I think it's because this is really new to most of us

<Janet> it was sure new to me

<cak> lol--mad you want to stir up a little trouble?

<Janet> i think i'm going to eat lunch during this class. i have leftover salad from last night

<Janet> let me go get it before Inka starts

<Janet> brb

<brenda> hey teh

<teh> hello. just a bit confused. is something happening now

<EB2> class will start here soon

<brenda> supposed to be a class

<teh> thks!

<EB2> yw

<brenda> http://cyberstampers.com/convention/inka/

<brenda> here is her web booth

<brenda> so is everyone having fun?

<cak-brb> thanks brenda--and I am (I always do)

<keribou> what classes have you enjoyed?

<keribou> any classes you wish we had but didn't have?

<brenda> yes

<brenda> any requests

<cak> your postoid class and brenda's background class come immediately to mind--Janet's globe class.

<keribou> any ideas?

<teh> basics. how to pick colors and coorination :)

<Janet> how to make backgrounds

<brenda> teh good suggestion

<cak> specifics on how to make backgrounds

<keribou> wasn;t that background class fantastic?

<keribou> we need to get c-lion to teach more classes

<teh> repeats of the favorites at diff times. West Coast and East coast times make it hard to attend all of them.

<Janet> that's what I meant, i want to know how to make those fab backgrounds

<brenda> bakgrounds are all of our biggest challenge

<Janet> and that's a good idea, doing repeat classes so different time zones can have them

<cak> and we have some Aussie and European stampers too, so the schedule is quite a challenge

<brenda> yep

<brenda> that was why i did the ggdesigns in day and evening

<keribou> me too

<teh> repeats would be good, but tiring for instructors.

<keribou> and once I hae prepared the class- re-teaching it isn;'t much extra effort

<brenda> it is tiring

<Janet> i think i'd like a product hour, where someone would tell me what all the new stuff is, and which i need to have

<brenda> but you know teh

<brenda> i learn sometimes things that i dont in the first

<brenda> kat did some of that janet

<brenda> she did great

<Janet> how many times have I done the same watercolor class? but people keep coming to it

<brenda> and is going to do basic 102

<brenda> yep

<Marion> Sorry I'm late. Had to pay the gardener for putting in 35 Hostas.

<Janet> oh excellent. i was sorry i missed that. i've been sorry i've missed a lot of stuff

<brenda> hey marion

<Janet> oh i love hostas

<cak> sounds lovely Marion==and Inka's not here just yet

<Janet> (they just burn up on me)

<cak> Yeah, we've had a cry for your watercolor classes already Janet (and not just from me either)

<brenda> well after 4 years mine are finally growing

<cak> How would you feel about merging a color coordinationa and watercolor class Janet?

<Marion> Oh good. Ihope she makes it this time. Last class we missed because of a time mix up and I really wanted to see it.

<Janet> let me see if i've got her phone number

<cak> I kinda wished CL has saved her overview class for last. that way we would be able to try the techniques and have some not-so-basic-questions instead of needing a step-by-step. there was an awful lot of stuff there for just an hour

<brenda> yep

<cak> i meant teach several classes, one technique per. Then do the overview class

<brenda> i am sorry i missed it

<brenda> maybe we needa repeat

<brenda> hey magi

<MagiStmpr> Hi all

<Janet> hi!! it's good to see you

<brenda> we are waiting for teacher to show

<cak> have her teach the individual techniques first though please. It was a madhouse in there at times. and it was frustrating to see what could be done, but not have all the pertinent info to do it (I need my hand held sometimes)

<Janet> Well, while we wait, why don't we teach each other our favorite background method?

<cak> uh, pick a beautiful paper?

<brenda> go for it janet

<cak> actually mine would be paste paper

<Janet> LOL that works for me. layering with exotic papers

<Marion> Craypas

<Janet> how do you do paste paper?

<cak> Marion! you've been holding out on us! Tell

<brenda> craypas is that chalks??????

<Janet> and how do you do craypas?

<mj> whats a craypas?

<teh> is that french?

<kristi> craypas are like oil pastels

<Marion> Craypas are an oil pastel they use in grade school. Scribble all over one sheet.

<kristi> it's a brand

<brenda> oh ok

<brenda> i have those

<Marion> Light CCS works best.

<mj> any oil pastel stick ok?

<kristi> yeah

<teh> have you heard of plastic crayons? I saw some at the store and didn't know what thatwas.

<Marion> Protect your ironing board cover with whatever you don't care about.

<Marion> Put anonther piece of CS over the first and iron on low heat.

<cak> (which would be my ironing board cover actually)

<Marion> The craypas melt and give you 2 pieces of background

<Janet> oh cool

<cak> cool! or hot with the iron

<brenda> awesome idea

<cak> you get some texture when you pull them apart??

<kristi> I also do it where you blend them with turpenoid on a cotton ball or cotton pad

<Marion> Use an old iron so it doesn't get on your clothes or use a piece of text paper

<brenda> i have done that

<cak> sounds good

<brenda> love that look

<brenda> and with clear shoe polish

<brenda> on a stump

<Marion> Not musch texture, but I think you might get some if you wait just a tad til they start to cool. Try it and let me know.

<cak> (I will! if I can find my iron)

<brenda> lol

<Janet> lol

<Marion> See 36 years of teaching K, 1, and 2 is good for something.

<brenda> yessss

<cak> lol--yeah! just the kind of teacher we need--

<Janet> cak, it's the larger of the clothes racks in there

<Janet> the smaller is the exercycle

<cak> LOL (you are so close to the mark, it's scary)

<MagiStmpr> LOL

<Janet> well, that's where mine is<>

<cak> so brenda, what do you do with the clear shoe polish?

<Janet> i like making waxed paper resist backgrounds

<Janet> yeah, what do you do with the shoe polish?

<brenda> use it to smear the oil pastels around

<MagiStmpr> cool

<brenda> it acts like a thinner or something

<brenda> makes it move smoothly

<cak> Oh! cool

<kristi> anything that is a colvent for oil works

<kristi> solvent

<Janet> ohhhhh

<Marion> Can it be old shoe polish? Mine is ancient cuz I only wear sneakers and muck shoes.

<brenda> it just didnt stink as bad

<brenda> clear boot type polish

<Marion> K

<kristi> odorless turpenoid don'es smell much

<cak> do your wax paper resist thing Janet--those are lovely and as long as I've got to get the iron out-----

<Marion> How about somthing like Simple Green? That dissolves grease.

<Janet> LOL

<cak> good thought Marion--

<Marion> Taakes crayon off tables too (K teacher talking)

<brenda> ty it and see marion

<Marion> Will do.

<Janet> that's just take a piece of waxed paper, a bit larger than your pieces of cardstock (glossy works best) and fold it lots of times, like you were folding it into little bits

<keribou> googone takes off crayon also

<brenda> you dont want to leave it oily

<cak> and then report back (the important part)

<Janet> or fold it like you're going to cut a snowflake (that makes tie-dye looking backgrounds)

<Janet> then unfold it and put it in between your two pieces of cardstock

<Marion> Needed simple green for the driveway anyway.

<Janet> then iron it gently on medium heat

<Janet> then brayer it, where it melts it forms a resist

<cak> does it matter how flat you get it between the cs?

<cak> (I'd prolly flatten it too much)

<Janet> well, you don't want to over-iron it, but go over it once or twice with a medium hot iron

<keribou> Janet- some one did that on a quilt show and made awesome patterns

<keribou> I wnat to a teach a clas son that- once I learn how to do it!

<Janet> I've got a class page for it somewhere but I'm not sure where

<cak> on fabric it would be modern batik!

<cak> (any reply from Inka, Janet?)

<Janet> i can't find her phone number

<Janet> but i think i found my waxed paper resist sample

<cak> we're just gonna have to tie that girl down--make her do a Saturday class maybe

<Janet> yes! http://crafts.dm.net/mall/000729.jpg

<cak> Oh good! I love those

<brenda> oohh awesome

<Janet> that was just folding up my piece of waxed paper into a tiny square then unfolding it

<Janet> you sort of get mirror images on your two pieces of cardstock

<Janet> very easy to do and addictive

<Janet> i made way more backgrounds like that than i ever used

<cak> it looks like you brayed the color on. I bet DTP would be nice on this too

<kristi> it's fun to do on metallic papers and then brayer black over it - you get sort of an animal print feel

<Janet> oooo that would be way cool

<brenda> oh neat idea kristio

<cak> yes

<kristi> there is a sample in the gallery

<cak> (anything metallic--shiny stuff)

<Janet> (perzactly)

<Janet> i like powdered mica backgrounds too

<Janet> hiya, Jo!

<kristi> I like doing dtp to paper with versamark, maybe masking off some areas and doing 3-4 colors of mica

<cak> I've never done any of them--for some reason I'm having trouble making friends with my powders

<kristi> works great in books because the texture of the words show through

<kristi> http://www.dm.net/~artgallery/Kristi-Schueler.html

<Janet> do you dtp first, then stamp with versamark and powder, or vice versa?

<Janet> oh i love that! that's waxed paper resist with a brayering of black, right?

<kristi> dtp first so it grabs the powder

<Janet> got it

<kristi> http://pic2.picturetrail.com:80/VOL36/451224/660420/7676407.jpg

<kristi> thats the versamark and PE

<kristi> on the sqaures on the right

<sparkle> another trick is to DTP, then powder, then stamp with versamark, it'll pick up the powder

<Janet> that's lovely

<kristi> ty

<cak> cool

<Janet> just stamp with versamark on top of the powder?

<sparkle> Yep.

<sparkle> it'll lift up the powder

<brenda> neat

<Janet> i gotta try that!

<Janet> i like doing backgrounds with my brayer too

<brenda> brb

<Janet> sparkle, you know how to do that fusible webbing thing, right?

<Janet> i really wanted to know how to do that last night

<cak> yeah, but I was terminally confused too (the technique was terminal, not me)

<keribou> I was too

<keribou> and what kid of that fusible webbing do I need from the store?

<sparkle> yes

<keribou> I have a 50% off JoAn's coupon

<sparkle> any kind

<sparkle> just tear it and put it on your cardstock, hit it with your heat gun...

<Janet> okay, I know how to go buy stuff. now what?

<sparkle> oh, sprinkle ep on it first

<cak> do you cover the whole sheet?

<sparkle> or something like that...I'll check the book tonight

<Janet> all over, or just here and there?

<cak> (lol, we're doing it again)

<cak> hey jo.

<Janet> LOL

<sparkle> uh, cak? that was a quit note <>

<sparkle> she's gone

<Janet> she'll be back :)

<cak> duh--

<cak> I can't seem to keep much straight this week (thank goodness for the schedule)

<Janet> I want to do that webbing background. I was frustrated no end last night when I couldn't find out how to do it

<cak> me too

<Marion> When I di fusible web I put a piece on just alittle larger than I want, heat it with a heatgun until it just starts melting, sprinkle immediately with ep and heat again withe the heat gun. Be careful not to overheat because it will shrivel away to nothing.

<cak> cool! Marion comes through again--thanks

<Janet> and it sticks automagically to the cardstock?

<sparkle> that sounds right marion <>

<sparkle> thank you

<Janet> i do know for a lot of stuff like heavier stuff, i like using wonder under as the adhesive

<Marion> Teaching Kindergarten really helps one simplify, simplify, simplify and don't assume they already know anything. <vb>

<Marion> Yes it sticks all by itself.

<Janet> I don't know anything, things fall out of my brain as fast as they fall in

<Marion> I tried some on a formica tile and it peeled right off so I glued it to another card. Frugal is my middle name.

<Janet> excellent! i save "mistakes"

<Marion> I have to do it to learn it and then I remember.

<Janet> because you never know how you can use them

sparkle doesn't save mistakes 'cause she knows she can always make another one!

<Janet> i remember, but I don't always remember correctly or all the steps

<Janet> LOL good point

<Marion> So pretend you are a mad scientist and create your own method.

<Janet> i do like to just play with my stuff

<Janet> make messes

<Marion> No mess...a creative environment

<Janet> ah yes. a creative environment

<Janet> i've got "creative environment" everywhere

<sparkle> :X

<Janet> LOL

<Janet> it makes every day an adventure, you never know what lost thing I'll find next

<sparkle> I just don't want to trip and break anything <>

<Janet> i refuse to respond to that, i haven't broken that many bones

<Janet> just two related to tripping over crap on my floor

<sparkle> LOL

<Janet> and a cast makes a great surface to create on!

<Janet> So what has everybody bought so far?

<sparkle> Hey, did you see that I'm gonna be an aunt again Janet?

<Janet> I haven't gone shopping yet.

<Janet> I saw! KellyO's preggers!!

<Janet> that's so exciting

<sparkle> I've been sitting on that secret since just before mother's day....it's been killing me!

<sparkle> LOL

<Janet> I bet!

<sparkle> i get to go to hte hospital for the delievery and eveerything that I've missed with sandy's kids...since sandy's been so far away

<cak> cool

<Janet> that will be so cool. and once you hold that baby? it'll be all over for you.

<Janet> my gramma hormones are raging since i've played with Jessica's

<sparkle> rofl

<cak> lol

<sparkle> I think I'll manage to resist.

<sparkle> since after buying a house we won't have money to buy a baby for a while

<cak> yeah, yeah, you say that now

<Janet> TB is managing to resist, too

<Janet> when do you hear about that house lot?

<Marion> I guess Inka's not coming. I have to go pay my mortgage and do errands so I can be back here tonight.

<sparkle> rofl..it's not like I can just get pregnant without doing some heavy explaining

<cak> thanks for sharing Marion (and sign her up to teach brenda)

<sparkle> july 20th we pick our lot.

<Janet> yeah, I need to make Lea's class page. she's going to teach magnets on cards, her samples are awesome

<Marion> Going to the Newport Flower Show tomorrow. It is held a RoseCliff where they filmed the Great Gatsby

<sparkle> there are 3 lots we can choose from that they're putting our floor plan on.

<Janet> yes! sign Marion up.

<sparkle> we don't want the 4th one.

<cak> aren't they always

<Janet> why don't you want the fourth one?

<sparkle> west facing bedrooms

<Janet> Oh I wish I could go to the flower show. Gardening is (one of) my other vices

<Janet> oh. well, yeah, you don't want that

<Janet> our one bedroom that faces west is about 10 degrees hotter than the others that face north

<sparkle> noooo

<sparkle> so we'll have a north east and a southeast facing bedroom

<Janet> that is perfect

<sparkle> hte guest room will be west facing, but it can't be helped

<sparkle> (we don't want people to get too comfortable)

<Janet> well and it will limit the time your guests stay, too

<cak> Janet, uh, can I pick your brain about how to display something on the web that'll display nice for both Windows and Mac platforms (i.e., Can This Scan Be Saved?)

<Janet> how likely is it that Inka will show to teach this at 5?

<sparkle> I 'spect the dogs will help the guests self select out too

<cak> um on a scale of 1-10, I'd say 10

<sparkle> lol

<Janet> LOL

<sparkle> i take it she doesn't request her teaching time in east coast time?

<Janet> well, maybe I'll come back at 5 then

<cak> I hope I'll be home by then

<Janet> i think she forgets it's given that way

<Janet> Hi, Jaspepper!

<jaspepper> hi everyone

<Janet> CAK, what is the whatever you want on a web page?

<cak> take a look at http://www.dm.net/~cak/one/grpp.jpg

<cak> and http://www.dm.net/~cak/one/purpast6.jpg

<Janet> that looks really pretty from here

<Janet> so does that one

<brenda> back

<cak> these are *much* brighter in person and on my Mac monitor

<cak> (sadly we live in a Windows world)

<Janet> i think just hit mid-range, if you make it look right on windows, it will blast mac eyes out

<Janet> so make 'em a little brighter, average it out

<cak> I'll have to fiddle with it a tad. but at least I know which way to fiddle

<cak> (oh, and those are paste papers)

<Janet> those are gorgeous

<Janet> i want a class on that too

<cak> they are sooo easy

<brenda> not for me they arent easy cak

<brenda> hey cindyc

<cak> but most people will not want to attempt it 'cause it's the traditional method and they think they'll have to slave over a hot stove

<cak> (they don't. I do mine in the m'wave)

<cindyc> hi bb

<brenda> if it works is what i want to know

Janets don't do slaving over a hot stove

<cindyc> hot stove? bad word

<brenda> i dont mind the stove

<brenda> just so it works

<Janet> i gotta go make Lea's class page. I'll be back in a bit.

<Janet> see y'all

<cindyc> later

<brenda> i never got it to work

<brenda> bye janet

<cak> and the starches are a tad exotic--rice starch and wheat starch. But easily gotten from an international grocery
