<Teri> Am I in time for class or did I miss it?

<MomCat> you are on time

<cak> Teri, it should start in a little bit

<Teri> kewl

<Teri> ty

<MomCat> ty

<MomCat> Hi, everybody!

<phyl> Hi mom

<Christell> Hi!

<MomCat> http://www.dm.net/~cak/MC3d.html

<MomCat> Bibi! Hi!

<Bibi> hi!

<MomCat> Have you been up all night, Bibi?

<Bibi> no, just woke up

<jenmist> OMG - I have one of those treasures!

<MomCat> yes, you do!

<MomCat> Hi, Jen and Lynn

<jenmist> it is so neat

<MomCat> hi, Teri

<MomCat> http://www.dm.net/~cak/MC3d.html

<Froggie> I love these!!!!

<MomCat> thank you

<MomCat> do you like the mermaid and kitten too, Frogie?

<Froggie> I'm sooo excited, I have those frogs stamps from Evo

<Froggie> and the mermaid

<MomCat> or just the amphibians?

<Froggie> but not the kitten

<MomCat> you like the wet things

<Froggie> yes

<MomCat> rofl

<Froggie> wet is good

<MomCat> yes

<MomCat> http://www.dm.net/~cak/MC3d.html

<MomCat> Well I am sure you will be glad to know that it is frog that caused this whole thing to get stated

<MomCat> going to CAPS NOW

<Jambalaya> http://www.dm.net/~cak/MC3d.html

<Froggie> yes

<MomCat> ALL OF THESE SCENES ARE DONE IN CD CASES WHICH ARE CALLED "JEWEL CASES"

<MomCat> THE TOP ONE IS THE BACK OF THE FIRST CASE. THE FROG STAMPS ARE FROM EVOLVING IMAGES AND ARE STAMPED ON A PICTURE OF A BEDSPREAD IN A CATALOG. I SAW THAT PICTURE AND THOUGHT IT WOULD MAKE GREAT "FROGSKIN

<Froggie> lol

<MomCat> THE LILY PAD AND FLOWER I CUT FREE HAND FROM ORIGAMI PAPER. I DON'T MAKE SCENES FOR THE BACK ANYMORE. INSTEAD I PRINT OUT WHERE THE STAMP CAME FROM AND OTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE SCENE.

<MomCat> BECAUSE IT'S TWICE AS MUCH WORK TO MAKE TWO SCENES AND YOU CAN ONLY LOOK AT ONE SIDE AT A TIME. <G>

<MomCat> http://www.dm.net/~cak/MC3d.html

<MomCat> http://www.dm.net/~cak/MC3d.html

<MomCat> FOR THE FIRST ONE, THE FROG AT THE TOP IS ON THE BACK OF THE CASE

<MomCat> THE FROG IMAGE ON THE FRONT IS WHAT STARTED THE WHOLE THING WITH THE CD CASES.

<Froggie> this is true

<MomCat> IT LOOKS THE WAY A TREE FROG HANGING ONTO THE INSIDE OF ITS GLASS CAGE LOOKS, SO I WANTED TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE WE WERE LOOKING THROUGH GLASS AT THE FROG

* MomCat USED TO WORK AT A PETSHOP THAT SOLD TREE FROGS

<MomCat> THE ORANGE IS FUN FOAM. WHICH IS GLUED IN PLACE TO HOLD THINGS IN THEIR PROPER PLACES. ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CASE IS THE WOOD SURROUNDING THE WINDOW PANE MADE FROM WOODGRAIN PAPER.

<MomCat> RIGHT ON THE INSIDE OF THE GLASS IS THE FROG AND THEN AT THE BACK OF THE CASE IS THE PICTURE.

<MomCat> http://www.dm.net/~cak/MC3d.html

<Froggie> I was very impressed with the mitered corners of the frame!

<MomCat> I JUST SORT OF EYEBALL THOSE

<Froggie> Gives it a real frame look as opposed to just cutting out a square shape

<Froggie> in one piece

<MomCat> IF YOU LAY ONE SIDE OF THE FRAME, CUT TO SIZE ON THE CD CASE

<MomCat> http://www.dm.net/~cak/MC3d.html

<MomCat> THEN LAY ANOTHER PIECE OVER IT

<MomCat> AND MARK WHERE THEY MEET AT THE INNER EDGE

<MomCat> YOU CAN THEN CUT FROM THAT MARK TO THE OUTER CORNER

<MomCat> AND PUT THAT PIECE ON TOP

<MomCat> YOU ONLY HAVE TO MITER THE CORNERS ON TWO OF THE STRIPS

<MomCat> DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?

<Bibi> yup

<Froggie> yes

<MomCat> GOOD

<Froggie> is the background scene a magazine pic?

<MomCat> THE HARDEST PART IS FINDING THE RIGHT PICTURE THAT IS THE RIGHT SIZE. WHEN I USE PICTURES FROM MAGAZINES OR CATALOGS, I GLUE THE PICTURE TO PLAIN WHITE CARDSTOCK AND LET IT DRY, TO MAKE IT STIFFER AND STRONGER.

<MomCat> SORRY

<Froggie> lol, 'sok

<MomCat> i LOST MY PLACE BECAUSE WE HAD TO BREAK UP A LIZARD FIGHT.

<Froggie> everybody ok?

<MomCat> YES

<cak> (lol, reptilian excuses are always acceptable)

<MomCat> JUST MENACING GOING ON

<MomCat> BUT i WANTED TO STOP IT NOW

<Froggie> I can understand

<MomCat> YOU CAN ALSO GLUE FABRIC TO CARD STOCK

<MomCat> YOU COULD PUT MORE IN THE CASE, BUT I DIDN'T THINK THIS SCENE NEEDED MORE SINCE THE PICTURE IS QUITE COMPLEX AND HAS A GOOD FEELING OF "DEPTH."

<lana> which 2 corners do you miter? diagonal?

<MomCat> ALL FOUR CORNERS ARE MITERED

<MomCat> THAT IS FITTED TOGETHER DIAGONALLY

<lana> got it 2 strips both ends not 2 corners.

<MomCat> YOU COULD JUST CUT FOUR STRIPS AND NOT MITER THEM

<MomCat> BUT THIS HAS A MORE FINISHED LOOK

<MomCat> BUT i WOULD NOT CUT A SQUARE OUT OF WOODGRAIN CARD STOCK

<MomCat> http://www.dm.net/~cak/MC3d.html

<Janet> hi, barb. the page of samples is at http://www.dm.net/~cak/MC3d.html

<MomCat> BECAUSE THEN YOU WOULD HAVE LONG GRAIN ON TWO SIDES AND SHORT GRAIN ON TWO SIDES AND IT WOULD NOT LOOK "REALISTIC" AT ALL.

<MomCat> LANA, DID THAT HELP?

<lana> yes, did you line it up with the cd case or hang over the sides?

<MomCat> NO, IT IS LINED UP WITH THE EDGES OF THE CD CASE

<barb911> just snooping will be on time next class- bye

<MomCat> IF YOU LET IT HANG OVER THE EDGE, THE CARD STOCK WOULD GET ALL BENT UP.

<MomCat> I ACTUALLY GLUED THIS FROG TO THE "WINDOW," BUT NOW I JUST PUT FOAM ON THE BACK OF THE PIECES TO HOLD THEM IN PLACE. THE WINDOW FRAME IS HELD ON WITH DOUBLESTICK TAPE.

<MomCat> BRB

<MomCat> SORRY, SOMEBODY WAS AT THE DOOR

<MomCat> tHIS WAS IN THE EARLY DAYS OF MY STAMPING

<MomCat> i STAMPED THE FROGS WITH DYE INK

<MomCat> AND IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY YOU CAN SEE THAT THE GLUE MADE THE INK RUN ON THE FROG ON THE FRONT

<lana> what magazine did you use for the frog background?

<MomCat> HOWEVER, i DECIDED THIS WAS A "FEATURE" BECAUSE IT MAKES THE FROG LOOK "WET"

<MomCat> IT CAME FROM VOGUE

<MomCat> FINDING THE RIGHT PICTURES IS A MATTER OF LUCK

<MomCat> WHEN YOU SEE SOMETHING THAT WILL FIT A CD CASE, GRAB IT AND WAIT FOR INSPIRATION TO STRIKE.

<MomCat> THE FOAM IS TO HOLD THE FROG IN PLACE BECAUSE IT KEPT SLIPPING AND I WANTED IT RIGHT UP AGAINST THE INSIDE OF THE CASE. THE FOAM IS A SPACER. THE FOAM IS NOT STICKY. I TAPED IT TO THE FROG.

<MomCat> AND IT IS HIDDEN BY THE FROG. THE CASE IS SUPPOSED TO STAY CLOSED. I USE FUN FOAM OR SCRAPS FROM TRIMMING FOAM MOUNTED STAMPS. THE EYES FOR BOTH FROGS WERE DONE WITH STICKLES GLITTER GLUE.

<MomCat> WITH THE MERMAID EVERYTHING IS INSIDE THE CASE. THE MERMAID AND THE SHELL WHICH IS A REAL SHELL ARE AGAINST THE FRONT OF THE CASE. THERE IS A NARROW SPACER BETWEEN THE MERMAID AND THE SAND PAPER. SO YOU CAN SEE HER SHADOW. THAT GIVES IT MORE DEPTH.

<MomCat> THE PLASTIC SEAWEED IS BEHIND THE SANDPAPER. THE SHELL, SEAWEED AND STARFISH BUTTON AND THE BACKGROUND PAPER ARE FROM A PAPER ODDYSEY COLLAGE PACK. THE MERMAID IS TIME TO STAMP'S "CORAL REEF QUEEN."

<MomCat> I USE SAND PAPER FOR BEACHES, SEA-BOTTOMS AND DESERTS

<MomCat> YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN THE HARDWARE CLERK'S FACE WHEN i TOLD HIM WHAT THE SANDPAPER WAS FOR :)

<MomCat> THIS IS ONE OF THE VERY FEW PIECES IN WHICH I HAVE DELIBERATELY USED A "LAYOUT PATTERN." I COULDN'T GET THE SEAWEED ON THE LEFT TO LOOK LIKE IT "BELONGED." THEN I NOTICED THAT THE MERMAID, THE SEAWEED ON THE RIGHT AND THE STARFISH DESCRIBED A PARTIAL OVAL.

<MomCat> I TURNED AND POSITIONED THE SEAWEED ON THE LEFT TO COMPLETE THE OVAL AND THE COMPOSITION APPEARED "BALANCED" TO ME.

<MomCat> IN THE NEXT ONE WE ARE LOOKING INTO A WINDOW. THE BUTTERFLY AND KITTEN ARE FROM EVOLVING IMAGES. THE BEDROOM SCENE IS FROM AN ADVERTISEMENT. I GLUED THE BUTTERFLY TO THE WINDOW FRAME AND DREW HIS ANTENNA

<MomCat> THE "CHAIR BACK" THE KITTY IS SITTING ON IS ACTUALLY MADE OF FABRIC AND IS STUFFED WITH QUILT BATTING. THIS TYPE OF THING IS THE PERFECT EXCUSE FOR HANGING ONTO TINY SCRAPS OF FABRIC. <G>

<MomCat> tHIS IS THE ONE THAT jENMIST HAS

<MomCat> jEN, DOES THE CHAIR LOOK "REAL?"

<jenmist> yes it does

<MomCat> THANKS

<jenmist> I was in wrong window tryin to answer - LOL

<MomCat> IT DOES TO ME, BUT i KNEW WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE

<MomCat> NOT MAKING CARAMELS :(

<jenmist> it is very neat piece of art

<MomCat> THANK YOU

<MomCat> THE LAST ONE ISN'T PARTICULARLY 3D. THE TOAD IS AN EVOLVING IMAGES STAMP, EMBOSSED IN BRONZE ON IRREDESCENT CARDSTOCK AND THE LIGHTNING BOLTS WERE CUT FREEHAND AND GLUED IN PLACE.

<MomCat> (THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MOMCAT IS RUNNING OUT OF TIME FOR A SWAP, CAN'T FIND HER DESERT TORTOISE STAMP AND SAID SHE WAS GOING TO USE CD CASES. <G>)

<cak> lol--it works

<MomCat> SO i GRABBED A STAMP OF A SOUTHWESTERN ANIMAL i DID HAVE AND SHOVED IT IN THE CD CASE

<lana> I'm assuming these are the wide cd cases not the really flat ones.

<MomCat> THESE ARE ALMOST A QUARTER OF AN INCH THICK

<MomCat> MAYBE 3/16 OR 7/32

<lana> do you pop out the black insert?

<MomCat> SO YOU DON'T HAVE A LOT OF DEPTH, BUT YOU CAN GET UP TO 4 LAYERS IN THEM

<MomCat> YES, YOU POP OUT THE INSERT.

<Froggie> does anyone here besides me have trouble opening CD cases?

<Janet> i have a lot of trouble opening them

<Bibi> I do

<Janet> i put little tape tabs to help me

<MomCat> i BOUGHT NEW CASES AT AN OFFICE SUPPLY STORE SO THEY WOULDN'T BE CRACKED OR SCRATCHED

<lana> just when there new with the sticky labels on the side.

<Froggie> oh good, I feel so stupid that a piece of plastic defeats me

<MomCat> SOMETIMES THEY OPEN LIKE MAGIC FOR ME

<Jambalaya> i have more trouble taking the black insert out

<MomCat> AND SOMETIME i STRUGGLE WITH THEM FOR MINUTES

<Janet> i can rip the inserts out, no problem, but trouble just opening the door

<Froggie> lol, you've all made me feel MUCH better!

<MomCat> STICK A FORK OR PLIERS IN THE CENTER HOLE, jAMBA.

<Janet> most of my stuff is out of the jewel cases, they irritate me, i have most of the ones I use or listen to a lot in envelopes in an old big floppy disk case

<Jambalaya> k, i'll try that mom

<MomCat> THE INSERTS IN ALL THE SOFTWARE AND STORAGE CD'S i HAVE SEEN COME OUT

<Jambalaya> i keep a lot of um's in em

<Janet> in jewel cases?

<Jambalaya> yes

<Janet> wow. now I know. I'm gonna do that.

<MomCat> BUT i HAVE SEEN A FEW THAT ARE MADE TO HOLD MUSIC LABELS THAT THE INSERTS DON'T COME OUT OF.

<Janet> jewel cases also breed in the dark around here

<Jambalaya> and i'm hoping to find a use for the black part that comes out

<MomCat> SOMEDAY i WANT TO DO POP-UPS IN THESE

<Janet> rubber is also breeding in here. I keep finding stamps that I already bought once, so obviously they're breeding, I'd never do such a thing as buy a stamp more than once

<Jambalaya> lol

<Bibi> lol

<lana> that would be cool

<Jambalaya> ya a pop up would be cool mom

<MomCat> PICTURE A BIRD HOUSE ON THE FRONT AND WHEN YOU OPEN IT A NEST WITH BABY BIRDS

<Janet> i think i might be able to figure it out inside a cd case

<MomCat> THESE WOULD ALSO BE GOOD FOR AQARIUM SCENES.

<Janet> oh and don't forget the music module playing it's a small world

<Janet> I made a very cool aquarium scene in one!

<MomCat> i STILL HAVE A MUSIC MODULE THAT PLAYS "YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE" MZ jANET ;P

<Janet> I used a dry cleaner bag that I half shredded, then taped the together edge up at the top and the shredded part just sort of ripples

<cak> with the "small world" music, don't you think the inside of a madhouse would be more appropriate?

<Janet> it's very cool, looks like running water

<cak> that does sound cool

<MomCat> COOL

<Janet> I put music modules inside Nixon cards

<Janet> I'm a sick puppy

<MomCat> AND IT STILL PLAYS

<Jambalaya> ya cak, but cyberstampers won't fit into a single jewel case

<MomCat> AND IT IS FROM PRE-CYBERSTAMPERS DAYS

<MomCat> ANY QUESTIONS?

<lana> where did you get the idea for online classes?

<MomCat> THAT'S jANET'S BABY

<Janet> oh, that was me

<lana> very cool

<Janet> i think and a pot of bad chili a long time ago

<MomCat> THE VERY FIRST CONVENTION WAS IN THE FALL OF 98?

<Janet> I taught a watercolor class, before we were all on the internet, and I didn't even have a sample page peeople could see

<MomCat> RAN FOR 3 WEEKS

<Janet> with a sample page people could see, once we all got on the internet, it's made these even better

<MomCat> THAT WAS jANET'S BRAINCHILD, TOO

<Janet> yeah, fall 1998

<Janet> first shopping "mall" and convention on the internet, yes it was.

<Janet> we're so cutting edge<g>

<MomCat> AND WE LIKED THE CONVENTION SO MUCH THAT THE MALL WAS STARTED THE FOLLOWING jANUARY

<Janet> we were then for sure. and yeah, we didn't want the convention to end so we made a mall so we could hang out here all the time

<Janet> and have classes like once a week

<Bibi> question - which would be the best wy to glue the cover shut, real shut, if I want to put sand or beads or something inside?

<Janet> now there's something every night year round

<Janet> e6000?

<Froggie> maybe aquarium sealer

<Janet> yeah, even better

<MomCat> AND NOW WE ARE SPREADING TO EUROPE

<Froggie> yup E6000

<Froggie> lol

<MomCat> OR i CUT A PIECE OF FOAM THE SAME THICKNESS AS THE CASE

<Janet> that was probably the biggest ego thing for me, one of the classes I was teaching there was someone in the class from every continent in the world except anctartica

<MomCat> PUT DOUBLE STICK TAPE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FOAM AND CLOSE THE CASE

<Bibi> yeah, that could work

<Froggie> Can you see me tryingto open THAT one? LOL

<MomCat> BUT YOU HAVE TO HAVE A DESIGN ELEMENT THAT HIDES THE FOAM

<Janet> LOL

<Jambalaya> you mean like fun foam?

<MomCat> YES

<Bibi> we don't get E6000 here - is it a two component glue?

<Jambalaya> no

<MomCat> FUN FOAM IS ON THING i USE

<Janet> no, it's just an epoxy glue in a tube

<Jambalaya> it's like a jewelers cement

<Bibi> ok

<Janet> remind me to bring you some this fall

<Bibi> Janet? Bring me some this fall

<Janet> (I'm meeting Bibi in Germany this fall.)

<Bibi> (hopefully)

<Janet> oh okay. and don't forget the eggs are boiling

<Bibi> lol

<Jambalaya> janet, bring bibi a Jambalaya

<Janet> bibi, you better show up, it's way closer to you in norway than it is to me in texas

<MomCat> AND A MOMCAT

<Bibi> YES! good idea, Jams

<Janet> oh okay. Jams, come with me

<Janet> come on! everybody come!!

<Janet> party in my room Friday night!

<Janet> hi, Traci

<MomCat> HI TRACI

<Traci> Hi, just seeing what was going on.

<MomCat> TRACI THERE WILL BE AN UNEDITED TRANSCRIPT UP ON THE CLASS LOGS SITE IN A FEW DAYS

<Bibi> lol

<MomCat> CAK PUT YESTERDAY'S LOGS UP LAST NIGHT!

<Traci> Thank you

<Bibi> look like?

<Janet> WOWOOW Cak. You are my hero

<Janet> what? we gotta send you bribes?

<cak> I got so far behind last time. I didn't want a repeat

<Janet> okay. I can do that.<g>

<Jambalaya> lol

<MomCat> JEN! CAK NEEDS BRIBING!

<MomCat> JENMIST IS THE CARAMEL QUEEN

<Janet> (Froggie? send CAK a bribe for us? she loves your stamps)

<MomCat> LOL

<Janet> JEN! Send Janet a bribe!

* MomCat AND JANET ARE GOOD AT DELEGATING

<Janet> Froggie, send Janet a bribe, too.

<Janet> bless you, Froggie

<Froggie> lol

<Janet> Oh one of the booths, she has seriously cool stamps

<Bibi> that is true, cak

<phyl> totally seriously cool

<lana> at the mall>

<Janet> http://www.cyberstampers.com/convention/reliquary [this is actually for Reliquary's main store]

<Janet> go there, she's got alphabets and other cool stamps. I love the Mona Lisas

<lana> ok I haven't been there yet.

<Janet> you'll love it

<phyl> thanks great stuff mom wonderful art

<Bibi> thanks for great class, MomCat!

<Jambalaya> great class mom, ty

<Froggie> Great class MomCat, thanks!!!

<phyl> and great instructions

<Janet> thank you for the class!

<jenmist> great class, now I know

<MomCat> thanks, Jen

<lana> night you gals are a riot.

<Janet> we have a good time!

<cak> come back tomorrow (later in the week, it gets wilder)

<Janet> oh yeah. we're tame right now.

<Janet> too tired to be really wild. we'll get wilder. heh heh

<lana> I'll try I'm swamped right now. I'm opening a retail store in 1 month.

<Janet> Oh wow.

<MomCat> by next Saturday we'll be really crazed

<lana> I need to learn how to teach classes so this is great for me.

<Jambalaya> where??

<lana> fort wayne IN

<Janet> You'll find some good companies for your store here, too.

<Janet> most of them wholesale

<cak> stamping store??? (she says hopefully)

<lana> yes mam

<Janet> oh that's pretty close to CAK

<cak> closer than most, that's for sure

<MomCat> Lana, I had most of this text for this one set up in Word to copy and paste.

<jenmist> nite gang

<jenmist> see you tomorrow

<cak> Night jen

<Janet> Lana, come tomorrow to my next one, I'm winging it.

<Bibi> nite jen

<Janet> different styles for different folks

<jenmist> I have great prizes for my class too!!!

<lana> lol ok

<Janet> I wouldn't miss it, Jen. :)

<jenmist> nite

<lana> night

<cak> you'll see all kinds of different styles of teaching (and learning)

<MomCat> actually I typed this one as I went along the first time

<MomCat> then i took the log and edited it

<MomCat> because new stuff got brought out during the class

<Janet> I'm not a fast enough thinker to do that, I get lost in my own words.

<cak> I bet you see new stuff every single class though--no matter how many times you teach it

<MomCat> some

<MomCat> especially in the color wheel class

<MomCat> and I think I may add another page to the color mixing class

<MomCat> one on water

<Jambalaya> we all seem to have different methods

<cak> cool

<MomCat> yes

<MomCat> and one person doesn't necessarily use the same method every time
