<Shannon> this is mounted vs. um class?
<Bibi> discussion
<anno> mounted.
* anno is done discussin'.
<anno> rofl.
<Bibi> LOL
<LauraK> *LOL*
<Jambalaya> lol, anno
<LauraK> that was done fast!
<Judy> class is over?
<anno> heh.
<anno> ok..
<Bibi> we can all go home now. LOL!
<anno> unmounted then.
* Jambalaya tosses the caps to Bibi
<Shannon> i say unmounted
<Bibi> HI EVERYBODY!
<stampverb> HI BIBI
* Jambalaya sits with shannon
<Bibi> LET'S FIGHT! lol!
<anno> I like to BUY unmounted. I like to USE mounted.
<LauraK> I like unmounted as they dont' take so much space, but I do prefer using mounted..
<anno> which is better investment...
<anno> hmmm.
<LauraK> *lol* my thoughts exactly, anno!
<Judy> unmounted
<Bibi> I AM SURE WE ALL HAVE OPINIONS ON THIS SUBJECT, SOME STRONGER THAN OTHERS..... LET'S HEAR IT FRAM Y'ALL
<Dorothy> I mount them temporaily on a perspex block
<Bibi> OR FROM
<Bibi> LOL
<Shannon> i like like looking at mounted, feeling mounted, using mounted but paying for unmounted.
<stampverb> UM is no bargain if you end up reaching for the few mounted ones most of the time
<anno> ok..
* anno moves over and sits by shannon.
<Shannon> but then again...don't we all like feeling mounted?
* Shannon cracks herself up
<Bibi> NAH...
* anno moves over to sit by laura.
<Bibi> LOL
<LauraK> *laughs*
<Judy> I would like to be able to buy stamps mounted on cushiion with vinyl cling on back
<Scout> The clue to using mounteds is to keep them indexed so you can see what you have in each catagory.
<Bibi> some companies do offer that, Judy
<Scout> Otherwise you keep looking for stuff that you can't find or forget you've got.
<LauraK> I have all of my unmounted in a big box and can never find anything.. grr.. I really need to put them in a folder, but well. .am too lazy :)
<Judy> wore the skin off my thumb mounting a sheet of stamps recently
<anno> I brb, I go take a picture of my UM's.
<Bibi> lol!
<Bibi> I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO HEAR HOW YOU ALL STORE YOUR STAMPS, MOUNTEDS AND UMS..
<LauraK> do many here use halos???
<LauraK> that is the only thing I am using for my unmounted
<Dorothy> What are halo's?
<Scout> Keep each catagory, asian, animals, etc. together, not thrown in together
<Jambalaya> i use um on acrylic mounts, i use gluestick for temporary bond
<Dorothy> That's waht I do too
<Judy> without cushion, Jam?
<Bibi> SO DO I, NO CUSHION, NO HALOS (VELCRO)
<Jambalaya> without cushion
<Judy> sounds a lot easier that way
<Shannon> cushion is for sissies
<cak> they're a mounting system that uses industrial strength velcro (take a look at Evolving Images' site)
<Bibi> IT IS SUPER EASY AND WORKS LIKE A DREAM
<LauraK> just glue? I just feel that if there is nothing between.. it feels so.. hard! *lol*
<Dorothy> Thanks
<Jambalaya> cushion was originally used to make up for variance in the level of the wood mounts
<Bibi> I USE A SOFT SURFACE WHEN I STAMP, LIKE A SHEET OF FUN FOAM
<Scout> If they are ones I use often, I buy that 1/4" black foam cushion at Joannes and mount them on that. Slap a picture on tope, cover with cheap mailing tape.
<LauraK> I like halos as they really are easy to store in a folder (when I get round to doing it *lol*)
<Scout> Slap some glue stick on, (it wipes off)
<Bibi> SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD METHOD THERE, SCOUT
<Bibi> (DO I NEED THESE CAPS?)
<Bibi> naaawww....
<Shannon> but you look good in caps
<Bibi> LOL!!
<anno> I be back in a minute.
<Bibi> now, 99% of my stamps are UM... and I store them in videos cases
* Shannon wonders if anno is gonna show us this picture she took of her ums or if she just took the picture to add to her um scrapbook
<Bibi> by category
<Judy> by subject, by company?
<Scout> Some catagories are so huge I put them in plastic shoe boxes.
<Jambalaya> i just ordered video cases, thats my after convention project<g>
<anno> oh.. I gotta reboot, my card reader isn't.. reading!
<Bibi> i prefer storing by category
<Dorothy> 2I've got some cheapo snadwich boxes with lids that I store inside a nest of draws
<LauraK> I will organize mine by category too
<Shannon> i store by both category and manufacturer. what i wanna know is how detailed do y'all make your categories?
<Judy> if you don't have cushion on them, you could write company on back
<Bibi> i also have a ring binder where I have stamped up all my stamps, also by category, so I use this to look in when I stamp (can you remember ALL your stamps? didnt thinkso..LOL)
<LauraK> just wondering if I should try the glue.. hmm.. I ran out of loop tape, so now would be a good time :)
<Bibi> do give it a try, laura
<Judy> will the glue hold the stamp well?
<LauraK> i think I will! i just got a skeleton leaf stamp in the mail and was already feeling sad about not beign able to try it yet!
<Judy> without it falling off?
<Jambalaya> well laura, the gluestick washes right off, so no loss if you hate it
<LauraK> but now I can :)
<Bibi> yes, I use regular paper glue stick, and it holds the um in place ont he acrylic mount just fine
<LauraK> that is great jam! I will try it tomorrow!
<Dorothy> 2I have made prints of all of mine so that If I want I can scan a print into the computer to manipuate the image a make back ground papers to go with that stamp... design tool really
<Jambalaya> i can stamp into clay with my um stuck to block with gluestick
<Judy> will try that tomorrow - have to make something with mystery stamp
<Scout> I also find that it pays to store the sayings that goe with each catagory in the same box. Of course, some are rather generic, but when it refers to cats, that goes with cats, etc.
<MarieL> Hi
<Dorothy> 2I quite like the magnetis stamps too but I only have a few
<cak> Hi MarieL
<Bibi> Shannon, my categories arent very detailed. For example, I have one called 'people', but another one called 'nudes' . I guess it depends what kinf of stamps you have.... Say, if I had a lot of baby stamps, I'd prolly make a sub category for those.
<LauraK> *grin* nudes.. I just got some of those! :)
<Bibi> we all need'em, lol
<cak> I do the same thing Bibi
<Shannon> that's kinda what i do i guess. i started with 'people' now i have men, women, nekkid women, children, groups of people
<Shannon> it just seemsl ike they're getting overly detailed
<Scout> Me, too, Bibi. I have one animals, but then one close by labeled African, as they seem to work together sometimes
<Shannon> or i need to stop buying stamps
<LauraK> oooh, now I want to start organizing my stamps.. dont' want to sleep!
<cak> although I keep my categories in zip baggies so I can consolidate some of them
<Jambalaya> ya, i subdivide when the drawer gets full<g>
<Bibi> lol, shannon, stop buying stamps.... right.
<Shannon> ya. that'll be the day
<Bibi> when a certain place freezes over
<Shannon> i'll stop when i have to make a sub category like 'nekkid women sitting holding round objects'
<Bibi> so, let's hear from those that prefer MOUNTEDS? tell me why
<anno> sorry..
<Scout> I also save the bigger black plastic pans that come with bigger tv dinners. When I decide what stamps I want, I load them all into one of those and put it on my table. Kind of keeps them together while I'm working
<Bibi> lol@shannon
<anno> I can't seem to get the card to read at the moment.
<Jambalaya> well, i have to admit, i do use some mounteds
<LauraK> mounted ones are just.. more confortable to use! I always love using them after using unmounted
<Dorothy> 2I see there is a chat later about skillet stamping... as it will be 2am here could someone say quickly waht that is?
<Jambalaya> especially when stamping into hot utee, the wood is like a safety zone<g>
<Judy> most of my stamps are mounted - only way to buy them at stamp stores
<Scout> Funny, I really hate getting perm. ink on the mounteds, but doesn't bother me much on the umt.
<cak> Dorothy, I think it's about using a skillet as a heat source for embossing??
<Jambalaya> dorothy, it will be available in the logs in a couple days
<Shannon> all my stamps look like they've been run over by a truck.
<Bibi> I started out with UMs and never really got the hang of Mounteds
<cak> but I bet they still stamp great
<Bibi> that wood seems to be in the way, I can't see where I stamp
<Phyl> I have taken every one of my wood mounted stamps off the wood
<Phyl> took me two weeks to do it but don't regret it
<Phyl> it was taking up way to much space
<Bibi> Phyl, I unmount most of my mounted, too.
<Judy> some mounted stamps are like works of art all by themselves
<MarieL> Have anybody tried tha e-z mounts? or is that not in the convention?
<LauraK> bibi- that is true!! they are much harder to use if you want to image in a precise place
<Shannon> i remember when ums first came out. we were mounting them on our kids' blocks, lids from hairspray cans, anything we could find.
<Bibi> zactly, Laura
<Dorothy> 2Oh Ok... I know now... there is a gadget one can buy for it isn't there? I will check out the logs... fraid I must go to bed now it is 11-30 pm here and I have been up since 7!
<Jambalaya> lol, ya shannon
<cak> What are the ez mounts MarieL?
<Bibi> MarieL, I have never tried the e-z mounts
<stampverb> Judy, like Meer Images?
<Jambalaya> nite dorothy
<Dorothy> 2g'night all
<Judy> yes and others
<Scout> bye, Dorothy. Go to bed!
<Phyl> i have reversed the haols system and put the loop on the blocks
<Bibi> why's that, Phyl?
<Shannon> a friend was teaching me how to mount ums. she had this huge gorgeous male nude image and i asked her how she would mount him.
<Bibi> LOL!
<Phyl> because i put strips of material in a binder and just slap the stmaps on that
<Shannon> she said she normally doesn't like to mount anything that big.
<Shannon> i told her she was a liar.
<Phyl> they have the hook on the stamp
<cak> (lol--there's an obscene card in there somewhere)
<Bibi> OMG.... Shannon!
<Shannon> it was hilarious
<stampverb> what material., phyl?
* Jambalaya Bops Shannon
<Bibi> oic, Phyl
<Phyl> display board material
<LauraK> *LOL*
<stampverb> ??
<Shannon> sorry
* Shannon tries to behave now
<Bibi> lol
<Jambalaya> lol
<Shannon> i just cant behave in a room where the topic is mounting. it's against my nature. think i'll cop a quick nap before the next parade
<Shannon> later y'all
<Bibi> even if I do un-mount the mounted stamps I buy, I do save most of the wood with indez, coz they are so purty.
<stampverb> Phyl, so instead of using velcro strips in your binder, you use regualr yard goods?
<Jambalaya> ok shannon, now they completely forgot about stamping
<Bibi> lol
<Phyl> yes verb
<MarieL> cak: e-z- mounts is a system where you put your um on some sort of pad.... you know the same sort as the thing between the stamp and the blocks on mounted... and on the other side it is everlasting glue to put on a block... did you understand??? im a bit tired.... its hard to explain....
* stampverb tries to stay on topic
<cak> I get the picture. thanks!
<stampverb> last question: what is dusplay bd material?
<Phyl> that is the stuff they use like at conventions to put up their sings
<cak> (and I haven't used it) although I usually just double-tape my ums to the back of a halos block. works pretty well
<Jambalaya> brb
<Bibi> ok, jams
<stampverb> ok, where can one buy it?
<Phyl> verb send me you email addy and I will check on it for you
<stampverb> that's ok, I was wondering whether some cheapo fuzzy material might work, or whether it's a specialty buy
<Bibi> Hey! with that display material and lopp on your ums, you can even store your stamps in the ceiling! Just hang that material up there and attach the stamps. man, i'm full of good ideas, aint I?
<Phyl> fuzzy would wear out fast
<Judy> Bibi, are you tall enough to do that?
<Bibi> I'm only half kidding
* stampverb should have gone up to a convention display board and caressed its surface
<LauraK> I am so tired and have to go to bed.. time for my beauty sleep *grin*. So looking forward to playing with rubber tomorrow! :)
<Phyl> next time verb
<Phyl> caress away
<LauraK> thank you all for such great time again! :)
<stampverb> yep
<stampverb> bbye Laura
<cak> we'll look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
<Judy> nite, Laura
<Phyl> bye Laura
<Bibi> Judy, LOL! I keep forgetting my stamp room's ceiling is lower than most... it's in the basement, not a "real" room
<LauraK> hyvŠŠ yštŠ! good night :)
<Judy> oh - that would explain it!
<Scout> bye, Laura
<Bibi> hyvŠŠ yštŠ, Laura!
<Phyl> you too Laura
<Judy> would be handy to have them on the ceiling
<stampverb> i'm gonna go scrounge for leftovers for supper --back later
<cak> see ya stampverb
<cak> It would, wouldn't it?
<Bibi> yeah, that nekkid ceiling has to be used for something
<cak> and the display board would be good insulation I bet
<Bibi> that too
* Judy was picturing a seven foot tall Bibi!
<Scout> well, gotta go. be back later.
<Phyl> I would get whiplash
<Bibi> how do you all store Mounted stamps? I keep mine in drawers, but I forget that they are there (the ones I haven't un-mounted..yet)
<Bibi> lol, Phyl.. I guess so
<faberinth> 0 I know I missed part of this but I just put a few strips of removeable double stick tape on an acrylic block
<Bibi> yeah, that's also a good method
<faberinth> 0Then slap the trimmed UM on there. No padding layer
<cak> that's what I do too. quick and usually works very well
<Phyl> Alene's stick it over and over works good too
<faberinth> 0Then you can peel off the image and throw in a pan of water
<Bibi> I did that before, but ran out of Poster tape... so I tried glue stick and it worked fine
<Bibi> hi MM
<cak> uh, well I shouldn't talk, 'cause I don't use my stamps much. But I stamp all my images in a book by manufacturer and then make my selection from the book
<faberinth> 0Very easy to clean up.
<faberinth> 0I do this after a trip to a convention.
<anno> I usually run 'em through my little xyron.
<MM> Hi there
<Bibi> yeah, cak, I think a book like that is essential.
<anno> and then stick 'em to the edge of the table when I'm done..
* anno is not the most organized person..
<faberinth> 0I use the removeable glue stick for long term and keep them in a notebook by company
<Bibi> lol, anno
<Judy> you run your stamps through the Xyron, Anno? Will they fit?
<anno> yeah..
<cak> oooo, the xyron is a great idea--I take it that the stamp is easy to remove even with the permanent sticky?
<anno> the little one.. the 510.
<Bibi> I wonder about that... when you store by company, isn't it hard to know wher to look for, say, birthday stamps?
<Judy> they have temporary sticky also
<anno> I haven't had any trouble.. you stick it to your pants a time or two first.
<cak> I always think it stimulates odd combinations if they aren't viewed by catagory
<Bibi> what a great idea, anno! gotta get myself one of those smal Xyrons
<Judy> will try that one with a stamp I don't like
<Phyl> lol i would have fuzzy stamps if I stuck them to my pants, I have a herd of cats
<Bibi> lol
<MM> Just be sure to remove from your pants before you leave the house
<faberinth> 0I use an index sheet for each page. Put the sticky stamps on glossy cardstock and into a top load plastic scrapbook page holder.
<Bibi> cak, that's a good point....
<anno> but the little bit of fuzz keeps it from sticking too much, phyl..
<anno> I have cats too!
<Phyl> little bit?
<Bibi> lol
<Phyl> i am covered with cat hair allllll the time
<Phyl> am going to get stock in lint brushes
<cak> (and it makes me feel rich to look at my "collection")
<Bibi> faberinth, in ring binders?
<faberinth> 0yes, the D ring type
<anno> I sorted mine by categories.
<faberinth> 0It does not eat the pages
<Bibi> don't they get very heavy, tho?
<anno> and they're in.. press-on letters boxes.
<anno> I wish you could see them.
* anno glares at the card reader
<faberinth> 0I keep them by company because of the differing Angel policies
<Bibi> what are press-on letters boxes?
<faberinth> 0The notebooks are not nearly as heavy as keeping wood stamps
<faberinth> 0Remeber, I don't use the cushion layer at all.
<Bibi> in my ring binder, the one where I just stamp up all my stamps by category, I write under the image what company it's from
<Jambalaya> me too
<Bibi> hi holly
<MM> I'm not that organized yet.
<Phyl> i write which drawer or binder they are in
<faberinth> 0I used to do that. Now have way too many to keep it up
<Phyl> i hear that Faber
<Jambalaya> i have a rule, that i can't use a stamp till it's logged in my book
<Bibi> I have a rule: I am not allowed to use a stamp before I have stamped it into my book
<MM> I'd be in BIG trouble
<Bibi> but I break that rule alla da time
<Jambalaya> bibi is channeling me
<faberinth> 0That use to be a rule for me too
<Phyl> lol Jam
<Bibi> lol, jams
<cak> I had that rule, but now I have at least one drawer to To-Be-Cataloged stamps!
<faberinth> 0I ended up with 4 cartons of stuff and gave up when I moved
<Jambalaya> oh well ya, i have a box of uncataloged stamps too<g>
<anno> I wish I could show you...
<Judy> wonder how long it would take to catalog all my stamps?
<anno> my husband is an architect.. and they used to use scads of dry transfer letters,
<anno> and they had these storage cases for them,
<MarieL> I think I will say good night, by the way, I cant decide whats best, mounted or um.... Good night everyone!
<anno> that hold.. 22 or 24 or so boxes per..
<anno> and when they stopped using them,
<anno> I got them.
<Bibi> I started out with a can called 'NEW and un-categorized'. Now I have a couple of shoe boxes with that label on them......
<cak> whatever holds the stamp you want MarieL
<MarieL> sorry?
<cak> Night MarieL
<Bibi> good night, MarieL
<cak> (um or mounted!)
<Jambalaya> ya, there is no right or wrong
<Phyl> Night Mariel
<MM> Good Night Marie>
<cak> We should all be so lucky anno!
<MM> oops, I meant Mariel
<anno> they're pretty cool.
<MarieL> both, I guess....
<Bibi> take a pic some day, anno, will ya? want to see those
<anno> I can't even find a picture anywhere.
<anno> I did take a picture!
<anno> I just can't get it outta the camera!
<Bibi> oh
<Bibi> hmm
<cak> well, we'll be expecting a picture soon!
<anno> my card reader is not responding to that type media at the moment.
<anno> and I can't figure out how to get it out any other way.. without reading the instructions..
<cak> So will you weed your collection when you run out of box room?
<anno> and class'll be long over by then!
<anno> it just holds UM's..
<anno> I think it'll take a while to run out.
<cak> (I still want to see--whenever)
<anno> I have 2 cases of 'em.
<anno> so.. 48 boxes, I think.
<Bibi> weed one's stamp collection, cak?
<anno> they're about 8.5x14x1" boxes.
<anno> I did weed when I sorted, some.
<cak> I know, I know. I'm trying to gird my loins for that job. I find that I'm overwhelmed by my choices
<stampverb> back, with invented soup
<Bibi> if a stamp enters my house, it stays
<Judy> mine too
<Bibi> invented?
<Phyl> i tried that but ended up withover 10,000 stamps
<Judy> what kind of soup did you invent verb?
<stampverb> I mixed 3 bowls of leftovers, Bibi
<Bibi> that is quite a collection, Phyl!
<cak> you and me Phyl
<Phyl> been stamping a thousand years remember bibi?
<Bibi> ah, yes. LOL
<cak> (although I don't think I'm quite up to 10K)
* Jambalaya 's don't believe in counting stamps<g>
<Bibi> only 4 yrs here
<Jambalaya> or inkpads
<Phyl> i can't count that high anymore so gave up
<Bibi> I stopped counting at 1000
<Phyl> smart
<stampverb> well, I had extra yummy broth from last week's braised pork, plus 1/2 can fire-roasted tomatoes, and a wee bit of leftover cooked egg noodles
<Bibi> when I started stamping, I never ever thought I would get to 1000, ever!
<MM> oooh yum
<Phyl> lol you and me both
<stampverb> the pork had been braised with dark beer--i bet that's why the broth is so good!
<Judy> sounds good, verb!
<Bibi> also, I thought it was really strange that people bought stamps and never used them... 'g'
<Phyl> and it started with one lousey lion stamp
<Bibi> verb, DCC me summa dat
<stampverb> Bibi, I want to see a picture of all your stamp labels--they are in Norwegian, right? lol
<Judy> do you still have that lion, Phyl?
<Bibi> yes, they are
<Phyl> as a matter of fact yet I do
<Phyl> it will stay with me forever
<Jambalaya> oooooo what was your first stamp, everybody?
<Jambalaya> what got you hooked?
<Judy> coyote
<Bibi> you know what, jams? I can't remember :(
<Phyl> my bad dd got me hooked
<Judy> embossing got me hooked
<QueenPam> Making Christmas cards, I bought a stamp from Michaels
<MM> My 1st stamp was a teddy bear
<stampverb> hand-carved, because there were no "art" stamps at the time
<Phyl> she put that lion on one of her evies
<Phyl> and I asked the wrong question """"OOOO what is that"""
<MM> What got me hook though was letter stamps
<cak> as an adult--an alphabet my sister gave me (over 30 years ago)
<Bibi> LOL, Phyl
<stampverb> I am also a sucker for alphabets
<anno> I'm not sure I was an adult 30 years ago.
<Jambalaya> i think my first stamp was a monogram B
* anno does the math...
<anno> damn.
<Bibi> cak was an adult 30 years ago?
<anno> maybe I was.
<cak> I didn't act like one, but I could vote
<Bibi> LOL!
<MM> Dang, I feel like a baby now
<Jambalaya> wow cak is older than she looks
<Phyl> i still don't act like one anno
<cak> (still older than I act too)
<Phyl> er cak
<MM> I would've been 3
<anno> that's ok.. I could vote 30 years ago too.
<anno> this month.
<anno> not last month. heh.
<Bibi> LOL!
<cak> you *are* a baby MM!
<Phyl> oh my bones are starting to creak here i am getting older by the second
<cak> lol
<Judy> lol
<MM> Now my babies are 7 and 10
<anno> my babies are 16 and 19.
<MM> LOL Phyl
<cak> yeah, let's talk about something else--like how long did it take to get your second stamp
<anno> and I'v got 15 years on ya, I guess!
<Bibi> Phyl has been stamping for 1000 years, no wonder her bones creak
<Phyl> lol bibi
<anno> oh..
<anno> my first stamp.
<anno> it was either these cats going fa la la la la..
<anno> or this Z that looked like a zebra.
<MM> Well, it has been fun,
<anno> big 'ol all night media ones, on cube-sized mounts.
<MM> I have a farm and its time to milk the cows
<anno> they were as big tall as they were square.
<Phyl> my second was a unicorn and have that one too
<Bibi> m¿¿¿¿
<cak> don't forget the socials tonight! they are so much fun
<MM> I'll try to back for the 9 o'clock class
<anno> happy milking, MM
<Bibi> thanks for coming, MM - see you!
<Phyl> bye MM
<MM> Bibi, you crack me up
<Bibi> lol
<MM> see ya all!!! Hugs
<cak> night MM
<Phyl> we now have a crack up MM
<Phyl> hugs to you MM
<Bibi> anyone want to stetch their legs before we head over to the next class?
<anno> social.
<Phyl> yes maam
<Judy> what is next class?L
<anno> hehe
<anno> yes.
<Jambalaya> OK, WE SHOULD START WANDERING ON OVER TO NEXT EVENT IN #rubberchicken
<cak> I was just gonna ask if it was time to do a Liquid Cycle
<Bibi> be sure to stretch them right back here, tho!
<Bibi> lol, cak, i need one too
<cak> I'll see you over there asap
<Bibi> keys
<Bibi> okays
<Jambalaya> OK, WE SHOULD START WANDERING ON OVER TO NEXT EVENT IN #rubberchicken
<Ducky> ok, thanks cak
