<anno> I'm looking for tips.. I haven't actually gone in the dollar store lately.

<mexico> I know you guys are talking but i have two questions

<Jambalaya> ok pat, what?

<cak> me either, I get overwhelmed

<BlackCats> go ahead, pat

<anewday2s> they now have some stamps

<anewday2s> picked up 4 yesterday

<BlackCats> oh? that's nice

<mexico> what is sticky powder, and what do i do with a sixxes converter

<Jambalaya> whoa pat, those are BIG questions<g>

<BlackCats> yep, lol

<Regina> someone do sticky poweder and I'll do the Sizzix converter.

<Vyx> Sticky powder is just embossing powder that when heated stays sticky for a little while.

<BlackCats> I have no idea about the sizzix

<mexico> oh come on they can't be that big

<cak> (unless you heat it too much)

<BlackCats> sticky powder is a bit tricky

<Vyx> Yeah, it's not all that easy to use.

<anewday2s> lets you emboss with the sizzix

<Jambalaya> hi liz

<Jambalaya> hi verb

<BlackCats> if it gets too much moisture in it when you have the jar open it goes bad

<anewday2s> that is dry emboss

<Vyx> Works better with a small bold stamp.

<Stampverb> hiya

<BlackCats> hi, verb

<BlackCats> hi, liz

<cak> hiya liz and Stampverb

<mexico> do I nedd more things to go with it

<liz> hey ladies

<Vyx> hiya Verbie

<Vyx> Um, yeah, you need the Sizzix machine to go with the converter.

<BlackCats> do you have the sizzix machines, pat?

<mexico> got that

<Jambalaya> hi AndreaFL

<AndreaFL> Hi, Vicki

<cak> hey AndreaFL

<Vyx> HIya Andrea!

<Regina> You need a Sizzix converter to use the new Sizzlets. Sizzlets are tiny alphabet dies and medium and tiny embossing dies.

<AndreaFL> hi cak and Vyx

<anewday2s> then you can use the brass templates sold in any store

<BlackCats> hi, andrea

<mexico> Oh

<Phyl> anewday are you Debby?

<BlackCats> got the AB package today, andrea

<cak> ooops, hope she finds her way back

<BlackCats> but haven't had time to open it yet <G>

<liz> have you tried other templates outside of Sizzix?

<Jambalaya> OK, BUT NOW, LETS MOVE ON TO THE TOPIC AT HAND: DOLLAR STORE FINDS

<mexico> no

<Regina> i wouldn't recommend using other than a Sizzix die or template in a Sizzix. The Wizard takes all brands, but starting to get some negative feedback about it.

<cak> So, dollar stores--are they good for more than buying TTPO items?

<mexico> Ok sorry

<AndreaFL> ummm...wrong Andrea?

<BlackCats> hmm, ok

<AndreaFL> sorry!

<BlackCats> magical rr?

<Jambalaya> AND NOT JUST DOLLAR STORES, BUT ANY CHEAP STUFF YOU'VE FOUND

<BlackCats> I don't have any luck with my local $ stores

<AndreaFL> nope...only AB I have completed is a gift to a friend, sorry

<BlackCats> ok

<Kristin> TTPO?

<cak> hi KYCrafter

<BlackCats> hi, kycrafter

<Jambalaya> AS KRISTIN POINTED OUT, THEY DON'T HAVE ACTAUL "DOLLAR STORES" IN EUROPE

<KYCrafter> Hello all!

<BlackCats> what is TTPO?

<anno> oh. any cheap stuff you found.

<cak> Tickle/Torture The Post Office--sending unwrapped goodies through the mail and have some fun

<anno> I found some cool 75% off scrapbook thingies at belk the other week.

<BlackCats> oh, lol

<Patty> My best hit was at Hobby Lobby when they were just putting their sale stamps on sale again....for a quarter a piece

<AndreaFL> Blackcats, glad you asked, I was wondering,k too....LOL

<Regina> i sure like that idea to play with the United States Postal Service (of America)

<Jambalaya> oooooooo a quarter????

<BlackCats> wow, good buy

<anno> a quarter might be worth a trip to hobby lobby..

<AndreaFL> Joanns used to have great prices on discontinued or used stamps..but they don't seem to anymore

<MonkeyMom> No HL here

<Vyx> shoot, they never have good stuff like that for me.

<Jambalaya> how long ago was that patty?

<liz> I love HL

<Patty> yes....about 5 Japanese..... and some sayings..

<AndreaFL> none here either, and no ACMoore :o(

<BlackCats> redstick from enchanted ink did a class recently using some of the cheapie picture frames

<MonkeyMom> Just Michaels here and it's an hour away

<liz> what type of store is ACMoore?

<Jambalaya> oh ya, but red can do stuff with anything<g>

<Vyx> Craft store just like Michaels or Hobby Lobby

<Patty> it was just luck.....usually when they put the sale stuff on sale again.....I miss it....it is not adversited...probably 8 weeks or so

<Vyx> It =sounds= like a hardware or paint store, but it's not, lol.

<BlackCats> but some good ideas about looking beyond what the stuff is to what it could become

<MonkeyMom> Got great polymer clay for 99 cents a brick tho

<AndreaFL> At Big Lots recently I got a plastic lunchboxy kind of thing with glitter make up...decided to use the make up as coloring on projects, and the container to alter

<Jambalaya> cool AndreaFL

<BlackCats> neat

<AndreaFL> ACMoore has a lot of stuff..wish we had one here to give Michaels a run for their money

<BlackCats> one thing I always look at is the gift bags

<Patty> Big lots has started carrying some stamps too

<BlackCats> I cut them up for layering or use with punches

<MonkeyMom> our BL doesn't have much of anything for crafts

<Jambalaya> sure they do

<liz> i bought makeup 24 makeup sponges for 99 cents at Big Lots. Great for those chalks.

<Kristin> I found a lot of metallic lunchboxes for about $1,50 each at the local grocery store here. Thought they would be fun gift boxes

<anno> we just got a hobby lobby.. on the other side of town.. ironically just around the corner from our only stamp store.. and just a bit down the road from biglots.. which.. was moving, the last time I was there.. I should go over there again and check them all out.

<MonkeyMom> well, traditional crafts anyway

<Jambalaya> cosmetic sponges, kids craft brushes for stippling, dominoes

<AndreaFL> Patty, some of the Big Lots stamps are not great, BUT when they really discount them, I use the wood for mounting stamps

<Patty> Have you looked lately.....our has just started.....

<Patty> Thats a good idea

<Phyl> I bought jewelry at the dollar store and took them apart and used the pieces

<AndreaFL> and I cut apart the stamp part to get images I want

<liz> great idea!

<BlackCats> and sometimes you can find neat things in the kids dept.

<Kristin> And those "jewlery" stores - they are a real treasure chest when they have sales!

<MonkeyMom> our dollar store has a matching game with 1.5 inch cardboard squares

<Patty> Our Targart (like Walmart) has a section of scraping stuff now....that is new....not dollar store. but we are just a small area.....the only scrap store is across the river

<MonkeyMom> Love them for mounting puzzle pins

<AndreaFL> I got several sets of Dee Gruenig Duo stamps at a dollar store last spring..I couldn't believe they were $1 each!

<Jambalaya> oh ya, i found a bracelet with wood beads with chinese symbols on them

<BlackCats> wow, andrea

<BlackCats> wish we had your $ stores here

<AndreaFL> Monkeymom!!! I used the same squares for keyring tags for convention trades!

<Patty> I found some small punches for a buck each......badge, house, flower etc

<MonkeyMom> LOVE THEM especially for dipping in UTEE

<AndreaFL> I don't have a hot pot, so I UTEEd them the old fashioned way...LOL

<Patty> how is that Andrea

<AndreaFL> Patty, that's a great price for punches

<April> ty

<Kristin> I found metallic circles in different sizes on a necklace. I though they would look great with alcohol inks on!

<AndreaFL> hi April

<mexico> hi April

<MonkeyMom> I also bought a TON of inscense for the tins they came in

<BlackCats> sometimes you can find neat boxes and such that are good for storage

<Jambalaya> recently i found at a dollar store a couple of charm bracelets with 10 heavy brass charms on each

<AndreaFL> Patty, the old fash UTEE? embossing ink, utee, heat gun, repeat about 5 times

<MonkeyMom> My DH sneezed for a week even thoughI threw them out

<BlackCats> lol

<BlackCats> hi, cindy

<CindyC> hi everyone

<Jambalaya> hi cindy and keri

<keri-afk> hi

<MonkeyMom> Hi

<Judy> hi, Cindy, hi, Keri

<BlackCats> hi keri

<AndreaFL> I'm always on the lookout for kids board books, any size

<BlackCats> yes

<BlackCats> and tissue paper

<BlackCats> or napkins

<Jambalaya> oh in the kitchen sections, look for wooden skewers to make cool book spines with

<JennZ> andreaFL, what part of fl are you from?

<AndreaFL> Christmas Tree Shops in New England used to be my place for tissue paper...I really miss them

<MonkeyMom> I got several block style board books and stripped the pictures out before the monkeys found them

<Regina> I'm still here. There's so many arts/crats stores and Dollar Trees around here, that if I got started I'd hog the screen for an hour!

<Patty> My niece bought some pill boxes for gibbles....the kind that you can put a week's worth in......and then labeled them

<Phyl> or place mats that have skewers in them

<AndreaFL> Jenn, I'm in Jacksonville

<BlackCats> been hoarding toothpicks from Panera Bread lately for book spines

<JennZ> I used to live in JAX

<AndreaFL> oKAY...WHAT ARE GIBBLES?

<JennZ> I think I might know you

<AndreaFL> sorry, caps lock locked

<MonkeyMom> AndreaFL, I'm about 2 hours north in Hinesville Ga

<AndreaFL> Jenn, did you used to live in a subdivision off St. Augustine Rd?

<MonkeyMom> do you go to the creative palette?

<cak> I was wondering the same thing AndreaFL!

<JennZ> yes, and my last name used to be braeckel

<JennZ> hi

<BlackCats> yes, what are gibbles?

<AndreaFL> YUP! Hi, Jennifer!!!!!

<JennZ> how have you been?

<AndreaFL> been doing fine...still plugging away

<AndreaFL> how are things with you?

<JennZ> pretty good

<JennZ> I like life out here in san diego

<Patty> My mother always used that word....to mean the tiny pieces of stuff on the carpet that women will reach over and pick up instead of getting the vacuum out......so I stole it to mean any small embellishment

<AndreaFL> MonkeyMom, I've only been to CP once so far, I hope to go this year

<BlackCats> what else can we find in $$ stores?

<BlackCats> or...

<BlackCats> what about thrift stores?

<BlackCats> buttons, lace, material....

<AndreaFL> chalk...lots of uses for colored chalk, especially if you work with polyclay

<BlackCats> yes

<MonkeyMom> I love finding glass things (of any type) to collage or cover in clay

<AndreaFL> Jenn, I didn't realize you moved all the way out there

<BlackCats> makeup works too for a lot of things

<Regina> hardback books for cheap

<BlackCats> blank journals

<April> I have a dollar store almost in my backyard, lol just opened last saturday

<JennZ> i decided to move out here to be near my dad after the divorce

<AndreaFL> make up sponges for using with inks

<MonkeyMom> I got a HB book to alter and fell in love with it and haven't touched it!

<AndreaFL> MM...LOL

<BlackCats> lol

<Phyl> eye make up works great on the stencils

<BlackCats> yes

<MonkeyMom> It has great pictures of japanese fairy tales that I swear I'll scan and never do

<Jambalaya> cotton tip swabs that have a nice sharp point is great for painting, chalks, etc

<BlackCats> emery boards are great for sanding, esp clay

<AndreaFL> oh..I love the Big Lots teeny tiny composition books for journals! packaged 3 for $1 right now

<BlackCats> oh, gotta go get some of those

<Phyl> oh that is a good idea Andrea

<Jambalaya> 3 for $1,00????

<MonkeyMom> My dollar tree just started carying the soft sanding blocks used for shrink plastic

<Regina> kids sets of glittery fingernail polish

<AndreaFL> yup..at least they were last week

* Jambalaya runs out the door to big lots

<Phyl> small candle holders for painting or covering with clay

<BlackCats> handi wipes or baby wipes, etc, are good to have around

<AndreaFL> Vicki, I keep looking for the pointed cotton swabs..can never find them

<Jambalaya> those are 78 cents at walmart!

<BlackCats> good to use to clean your brushes, then let them dry, add to it and you have a background sheet

<MonkeyMom> the swabs are in the cosmetic area at the dollar stores

<Jambalaya> in the make up section

<mexico> good night all

<Jambalaya> they're for eye makeup

<Patty> nite pat

<Jambalaya> nite pat

<BlackCats> nite pat

<MonkeyMom> I get the $1 tooth brushed for stamp cleaning

<Regina> sometimes the nail polish is in a little tin box

<AndreaFL> MM, I know..but around here they only seem to have the round ended ones

<Jambalaya> ohhhhh and cheap shampoo for washing stamps

<BlackCats> don't forget to check out the hardware section

<MonkeyMom> baby shampoo for washing ink/paint off of my face too

<MonkeyMom> big tear free baby sitting at the computer

<AndreaFL> I like to pick up clear plastic table covers for using on dining room table when I need more crafting room...easier to pick up and get rid of

<MonkeyMom> TOO smart!

<Phyl> anyone use the cheap hair spray to set your chalks with?

<BlackCats> all kinda things you wouldn't think about could be used in crafts

<Jambalaya> good one AndreaFL

<AndreaFL> and cheap nail polish remover for transferring images

<BlackCats> yes, phyl

<MonkeyMom> genious

<Phyl> do they work good Monica?

<AndreaFL> phyl, I do...and also to get rid of ball point inks marks on clothes

<Phyl> oh neat

<Jambalaya> cheap nail polish remover is also good to get the printing off formica samples too

<MonkeyMom> how about walls?

<BlackCats> seem too, phyl

<MonkeyMom> too amny monkey marks here to count

<Phyl> thanks monica

<BlackCats> oh, good tip, Jambalaya

<AndreaFL> MM..the best thing I've found so far to clean "stuff" off walls is "clorox" disinfectant wipes

<JennZ> Andrea, do you still go to stamp club, if you do, tell everyone I say hello!

<AndreaFL> oh oh oh....and clear packing tape to to transfers!!!!!

<BlackCats> yes

<AndreaFL> Jenn...Barbara had to sell out

<JennZ> oh too bad

<Jambalaya> and those nylon scrubbie thingies make wonderful background "stamps"

<Phyl> so do kitchen sponges

<MonkeyMom> OOOOHHHH, never thought of it

<BlackCats> yes

<BlackCats> and lace, buttons and such in the notions dept.

<AndreaFL> well..my brain is almost dry, and I have to go call dh to wake him up before he goes in for the night shift..

<Phyl> they also have colored wire for embellishments

<AndreaFL> Jenn, yup, still going strong

<Vyx> bye andrea

<JennZ> does BB&B have an online store?

<BlackCats> not sure, but worth a check

<Jambalaya> if anyone has a cracker barrel nearby, they sell great toothpicks with turned ends for a buck

<BlackCats> some stores have some nice yarns

<Jambalaya> like 1000 in a pack

<anno> so it's all good.

<evo> awrite, Anno!

<anno> :)

<anno> you're in my homeplace now..

<anno> well.. sorta.

<Vyx> Use em to paint glues into tight spots, all kinds of stuff.

<evo> yep, anno, sorta

<anno> are you visiting kriz?

<Jambalaya> fancy toothpicks, sand the edge to round it off, and they make great chopsticks on an oriental card

<evo> no, anno, at the hotel since last nite

<anno> will you get to see kriz? :)

<evo> will see her and Bill Sunday here, though

<anno> yay!

<anno> :)

<BlackCats> hi, kampersta

<evo> If we have it, you've got it, kampersta

<Phyl> Hi Barb how is everything in Green Bau?

<anno> I need to go to the dollar store.

<kampersta> wonderful Phyl

<Phyl> cold?

<kampersta> just settling back in after doing a local convention here last weekend

<kampersta> don't know how Mr and Mrs Evo do this week after week I am exhausted

<evo> How was it, Barb?

<kampersta> no actually the weather is not bad gonna go to 68 tomorrow windy though with rain

<Phyl> wow heat wave for you guys

<Regina> Dollar Tree--Play money, decks or cards in reg and miniature sizes

<kampersta> convention was a complete success Evo I demoed all day and had a wonderful time

<evo> Well, we're tough, Barb, but the older we get the tougher it gets ;}>

<Jambalaya> dollar tree has cheapie ink pads too, good for crazy backgrounds

<BlackCats> yes, and markers too sometimes

<kampersta> and watch the lace tablecloths and placemats great for glitter lace

<Vyx> And they had faux kai scissors

<BlackCats> oh! playing or flash cards to alter

<kampersta> I found some last year they had pointsettas on them cut them up for GL backgrounds

<kampersta> great for holiday cards

<Regina> Yeah...all sorts of flash card subject for teaching kids or for us to play with.

<Jambalaya> oh ya, andy had some really good scissors she got at dollar tree, but not kai like, just reg scissors

<evo> I got a bunch of domino sets in wooden boxes at the dollar store a few years ago... before they became popular

<Jambalaya> oh and jigsaw puzzles to break up for cards, pins etc

<Vyx> I was gonna buy the faux kai scissors, but said heck with it... our dollar tree is always packed.

<evo> how faux kai?

<BlackCats> I look for the half size of sandwich bags

<BlackCats> they are good for storing fibers

<Jambalaya> oh evo, i liked those wood boxes the black dominoes came in, very cool

<Vyx> snack size, yep, those are great. Have those just for craft use.

<Regina> Dominoes and those little wood boxes of number/symbol games

<kampersta> I have some of those faux kai scissors

<BlackCats> punch a hole in the corner and put on a D clip

<BlackCats> easy to grab a whole color range at once

<kampersta> NOT near as nice as the real thing but they are great for cutting wire, the rings off charms etc

<Judy> good idea, Monica

<BlackCats> ty

<Jambalaya> oh oh oh, we almost forgot the wrapping paper!!!

<BlackCats> oh, yes. can't forget that

<Vyx> Better than using your GOOD kai scissors for cutting stuff like that, tho!

<Jambalaya> i've found some great embossed foil wrapping papers at dollar tree

<Regina> you can get the real Kai scissors off ebay for $3 or $4--same brand, etc, as $19.99 from Stampin UP

<kampersta> true Vyx althou I keep the kais strictly for cutting rubber

<anno> oh.. I've found some neat handmade paper wrapping paper at dollar store in the past..

<BlackCats> or use heavy duty aluminum foil with templates/stencils

<Flourish> I like the post a notes from the dollar store for masking and making up little gifts

<Jambalaya> or you can get twice sharpened real kai's from evo!!!

<kampersta> yes Anno I have too

<Vyx> Yah, I'd rather buy my Kai scissors from Evo, lol

<BlackCats> think I just might indulge myself to a pair of those this convention

<kampersta> oh you won

<evo> lol, Jam, yes you can for $15 truly twice-sharpened

<kampersta> t be sorry BlackCats

<BlackCats> yeah, I've heard a lot of good things about them

<Regina> The Kai scissors actually do exactly what they're supposed to.

<kampersta> even my dh loves my kais he cuts alot of rubber for me and will only use the Kais

<Phyl> best thing since sliced bread

<BlackCats> and now that I've been converted to um's I need them

<Jambalaya> kai's will spoil you to other scissors

<Jambalaya> what?

<Jambalaya> you went to um?????

<BlackCats> lol

<BlackCats> well, buying them that way

<BlackCats> I still mount them on wood my dh cuts for me

<Jambalaya> oh ok<g>

<Jambalaya> so you still need kai's

<BlackCats> though I do have some I haven't mounted yet

<BlackCats> alpha's and such

<evo> BC... put just one of thoses um's on a clear acrylic block and stamp, and...

<Phyl> heck if I left all my stamps on wood I would cave in my floor

<BlackCats> lol, I'm running out of room

<evo> your DH will never, ever have to cut another wooden block

<BlackCats> matter of fact, my dh just finished a stamp shelf for some of my prettier stamps to display

<evo> He would luv you for that, I bet

<BlackCats> (and make more room. shhhh, he doesn't know that <G>)

<evo> lol

<Judy> lol

<BlackCats> talk, before he comes in and reads that sentence

<Jambalaya> hi lilo

<BlackCats> lol

<BlackCats> hi, lilo

<Phyl> Hi Lilo

<Lilo> hello

<evo> Heyyyyyyy, Lilo... why aren't you in Va Beach?

<Judy> hi, Lilo

<Regina> I wouldn't mind using the temp acrylic mounts if they were deeper. Too shallow for me--and I have small hands.

<Lilo> Hello evo, yes I am

<Phyl> they have real thick ones now

<evo> You are, Lilo?

<Phyl> aren't Red's thick guys?

<Phyl> as in Red Castle?

<BlackCats> acrylic mounts make my hands itch and burn so don't use them that much

<Lilo> I will see you at the convention tomorrow evo

<Jambalaya> red castle

<Vyx> Yep, I bought 2 sets from Phil of Red Castle, and they are wonderful.

<evo> Awrite, LILO! :}>

<Jambalaya> yes, red castle has the 3/4" thick acrylic blocks

<Vyx> Allergic to acrylic mounts, Monica?

<BlackCats> yes

<Phyl> wear rubber gloves

<Regina> I'll check that out. Haven't looked at Red Castle in a few months.

<BlackCats> that doesn't work well either

<Lilo> evo Sandy says hello, she couldn't come from CA this year : (

<evo> Awwwwww soooo sorry, Lilo... she was a hoot last year
