<Vyx> So hey y'all are we here to talk about glues now?

* Jambalaya tosses the caps to Vyx

<Tartomama> adhesives, please

* Vyx ducks, lol

<Tartomama> lol

<Wanda> lol

<Janet> yes! I'm stuck on you!

* Jambalaya tosses the caps to Vyx

<Vyx> OKAY ADHESIVES

<Tartomama> sigh

<Jambalaya> got her

<Vyx> YEP THEY STUCK, LOL

<Vyx> BASIC ADHESIVES WE ALL USE....

<Vyx> GLUE STICK IS PROBABLY #1

* MonkeyMom finds that gum is an excellent adhesive

<Vyx> LOL

* Jambalaya buys gluesticks in bulk<g>

<Vyx> I HAVE MORE GLUESTICKS THAN I THINK I'LL EVER USE, CUZ I BUY MORE EVERYTIME I SEE EM ON CLEARANCE OR CHEAP

<Tartomama> on monday, i used gluestik rather than deodorant stick by mistake

<Wanda> about the only time I use glue sticks is applying cover paper to the the covers of small books

<Jambalaya> roflmao

<Vyx> LOL ISIS

<MonkeyMom> no waving for TM

<Tartomama> had to take another shower

<Tartomama> sigh

<Vyx> SO WHAT IS YOUR #1 ADHESIVE WANDA?

<Wanda> for cards - double stick tape

<Maren> me too , I use double stick tape all the time

<Wanda> I have a Scotch ATG 714 tape gun and I LOVE it

<Vyx> REGULAR STUFF OR THE KIND THAT COMES IN A RUNNER DISPENSER?

<Tartomama> regular double stick tape or red kind?

<Tartomama> lol

<Jambalaya> i use ATG for layering too

<Wanda> I use to get the small dispensers before I bought the tape gun

<Tartomama> hmm

* MonkeyMom lost her atg dispenser

<Vyx> A TAPE GUN HAS BEEN ON MY WISH LIST FOR A FEW YEARS

<Wanda> now I buy the rolls of tape - and they are larger than in the runner dispensers - a dozen at a time for under 2 bucks each

<Janet> i use whatever i can find at the minute, i've got 'em all

<Tartomama> tape gun

<Maren> I just cut it from the rolls and that works for me

<Janet> (but my desk eats things)

<Vyx> JANET, ME TOO... AND MY CRAFT ROOM EATS THINGS, LOL

<Jambalaya> we should rename craft rooms, to the black holes

<Vyx> IS THE TAPE PRESSURE SENSITIVE? WHAT I MEAN IS, DO YOU HAVE TO WEIGHT IT TO ENSURE A GOOD STICK?

<Maren> I use cheap stuff and don't have to weight it

<Wanda> no, it sticks right away

<Maren> and doesn't come apart - I like that

<Wanda> in fact it's amazing if you can get it back off to reposition something

<Vyx> CUZ I THINK FOR SURE THAT THE TAPE GUN ADHESIVE IS DIFFERENT THAN THE LITTLE TAPE RUNNER THINGS.. AND WAY DIFFERENT THAN SAY SCOTCH DOUBLESTICK.

<Wanda> translated - don't miss the first time

<Maren> yep, just tried this morning and tore my papers

<MonkeyMom> it's a little bit gooey

<Vyx> AH, GOOD TO KNOW

<Jambalaya> the ATG tape is a VERY strong tape

<deb> : )

<MonkeyMom> loved mine until I lost the dipenser

<deb> that's GOOD to know

<Janet> i also cut lil slices off my zyron roll, cuz i rarely lose the big zyron machine

<Vyx> I DON'T EVEN OWN A XYRON BIGGER THAN THE 150. HERETIC, I KNOW. (lol)

<Maren> never thought of that, janet

<Janet> hi! you made it to adhesive discussion!

<Vyx> Y'ALL SHOULD SLAP ME, THO, CUZ I NEVER EVER THOUGHT OF JUST BUYING A CLEARANCED XYRON REFILL AND CUTTING IT UP.

<Wanda> Here is where I got my gun http://www.framingsupplies.com/3M/TapeDispenserGuns.htm

<MonkeyMom> I never would have thought of it either

<Vyx> (ALTHO I REALLY ONLY WANTED IT FOR THE LAMINATING THING, HEH)

<Wanda> they are under $30 and I save big time on the rolls of tape

<Paivi> Do you use Xyron without machine?

<Janet> i wouldn't have thought of it except i couldn't find ANY of my regular adhesives one day<g>

<Vyx> YEAH, INTERESTING IDEA, TO JUST BUY THE REFILL THING AND CUT IT UP TO USE.

<Janet> I do, just pull out a little bit of the film and cut lil slices off

<Janet> if I kept the refill loose, I bet I'd lose it.

<Paivi> I've tried but no succes

<Janet> I lose everything else<g>

<Jambalaya> yep, safe bet

<Vyx> THAT BLACK HOLE THING AGAIN, YUP

<Janet> and now I have a dog helping my desk eat things

<Jambalaya> ya but janet is the queen of lost<g>

<Janet> (he ate a jar of evo glitter last night)

<Vyx> OH GAWD.

<Jambalaya> oh my

<Vyx> HE'LL AT LEAST HAVE DECORATIVE POOP FOR A DAY OR SO, EH?

<Tartomama> i use xyron for a lot of my commercial cards and projects, because it doesn't loosen, even when people pick the card up again and again

<Janet> he really just ate enough of the jar to pop the lid up, then he licked up the glitter

<Janet> at least he doesn't leave a mess<g>

<Tartomama> I also use pva glue a lot

<Vyx> ISIS, PLUS YOU GET FULL COVERAGE WITH A XYRON, WHICH IS HARD TO DO WITH GLUES.

<Tartomama> yes

<Tartomama> i have a 150, 250, 500 and 900

<Tartomama> and use them all

<Tartomama> i've had too many cards returns from retailers

<Tartomama> saying something popped off

<Jambalaya> ok, tell me why i could need the xyron 900???

<Paivi> Isn't Xyron expensive?

<deb> lol

<Janet> because you don't have it and I do.<g>

<Wanda> lol

<Jambalaya> now you know that doesn't work on me

<deb> I like that little 250

<deb> no cover sheet

<Tartomama> I use it to laminate whole sheets of paper jam

* Jambalaya is the queen tightwad

<Tartomama> for example, when I am making cigar box purses

<Tartomama> and I'm using expensive ricepapers

<Vyx> PAIVI, YES, XYRON IS PRETTY EXPENSIVE. BUT IT CAN BE WORTH IT FOR THE QUALITY OF ADHESIVE.

<Tartomama> or my handmade papers

<Tartomama> I can put an 8.5 x 14 sheet in it

<Vyx> OTOH, IF YOU ARE MAKING 30 QUICKIE RAK'S YOU MIGHT NOT WANNA WASTE YOUR XYRON.

* MonkeyMom slaps her head for wondering who otoh is

<Vyx> I BOUGHT A (USED) ROLLATAQ NOT TOO LONG AGO...

<Wanda> do you like it?

<Vyx> oooh, sorry, otoh= on the other hand

<Tartomama> what is it?

<Vyx> HEH. I'VE NEVER GOT AROUND TO USING IT.

<Vyx> TOOK ME 3 HOURS TO CLEAN THE DRIED GLUE OUT OF IT.

<Jambalaya> i'm way too lazy to deal with a rollataq

<Tartomama> what is it?

<Paivi> I love my xyron 150, it's only wich really glues my project. For bigger things I use nice xyron tapedots

<Wanda> that's just it, if you're not using it all the time it gets dried and you have to clean it - yuck

<Vyx> AND MOST OF THE TIME WHEN I'M DOING LOTS OF THINGS, THEY ARE VERY SIMPLE WITH NO LAYERING.

<Vyx> A ROLLATAQ IS A GLUE DISPENSER. HAS IT'S OWN GLUE TO USE IN IT.

<Jambalaya> it's a liquid glue in a dispenser that clogs up if you don't clean it out often

<Vyx> IT'S LIKE A BIG WIDE GLUE ROLLER THING.

<Tartomama> hmm

* MonkeyMom will pass on that

<Tartomama> mwe too

<Paivi> Sound interesting, it's not available here

<deb> I used to have one of those

<Vyx> USED RIGHT AND STORED RIGHT, AND =NOT= FILLED UP TO THE TOP FOR 3 ITEMS... IT'S A VERY HANDY THING.

<Wanda> I think i have one in a drawer somewhere

<MonkeyMom> does any one use Gell Medium as an adhesive?

<MonkeyMom> oops... gel

<Vyx> THAT'S ANOTHER THING I BOUGHT, AND HAVE YET TO USE.

<Jambalaya> i have, but it's not practical on a regular basis

<Tartomama> only when I am doing inkjet transfers MM

<MonkeyMom> I've heard that it stays flexible even after its dry

<Jambalaya> hi verb

<cak> I've thinned it and used it as a sealer, but not as adhesive

<Vyx> YAH, I BOUGHT THE GEL MEDIUM TO USE FOR TRANSFERS.

<Jambalaya> you know what is one of the best adhesives?

<cak> A lot of people swear by it for adhesives though

<Tartomama> if I am doing any decoupage, I tend to stick with one medium for glueing and sealing

<deb> what jam

<MonkeyMom> gum

<deb> lol mm

<Vyx> LOL AGAIN AT MM

<Jambalaya> the diamond glaze/crystal lacquer/glossy accents

<Tartomama> yes jam

<Stampverb> are they all the same?

<Wanda> yep

<Jambalaya> yes

<deb> as an adhesive??

<Jambalaya> just different brands

<deb> really

<MonkeyMom> what about liquid laminate?

<Stampverb> why do you like em as adhesives

<Jambalaya> it's the best adhesive!

<deb> I ddin't kno that

<Jambalaya> it dries clear, easy to use, and sticks to anything

<Tartomama> we are talking paper products here mostly, true?

<deb> my stuffed up head is affecting my typing

<Jambalaya> nope

<Jambalaya> it sticks to metal even

<Tartomama> except with diamond glaze

<Vyx> THAT'S TRUE, I'VE USED THAT STUFF TO GLUE ON THINGS LIKE CHARMS TO CD'S

<Tartomama> i meant before the diamond glaze

<Jambalaya> yep

<Vyx> LIQUID LAMINATE IS PROBABLY PRETTY CLOSE TO DIAMOND GLAZE AND THE REST, YES?

<Jambalaya> yes

<MonkeyMom> I think so

<MonkeyMom> Clear evenwhen it comes out of the bottle

<Jambalaya> i use glossy accents now the most, cuz it has the best price

<Tartomama> i have learned to HATE superglue

<Jambalaya> and i use tons of it<g>

<Jambalaya> oh and hey! Stubby Stampers carries it<g>

<Janet> LOL

<Tartomama> i don't like E6000 either

<Jambalaya> <g>

<deb> I do

<Vyx> ISIS, SUPERGLUE ISN'T ANY GOOD ON LOTS OF THINGS. I USE IT AT WORK, AND IT DOESN'T EVEN WORK FOR STUFF WHEN IT'S INDUSTRIAL GRADE.

<deb> I can stick anything with that stuff

<Tartomama> i know vyx

<Tartomama> and it dries out fast

<Vyx> I LIKE E6000 AND THAT CRAFTERS GOOP, TOO.

<deb> E6000 that is

<Stampverb> anyone use Zap-a-Gap?

<deb> except mine keeps walking off

<Tartomama> E6000 dries in the tube too fast for me

<MonkeyMom> I like it for jewelry tho

<Tartomama> zap is another superglue

<Jambalaya> i hate E6000, and i shouldn't cuz it's made in louisiana, but i still hate it

<Vyx> THE ONLY THING I DON'T LIKE ABOUT E6000 IS THE COLOR.

<Wanda> mine doesn't dry in the tube, isis

<Tartomama> i have started using silicone for a lot of stuff

<deb> isn't it clear???

<Stampverb> I use Zap a lot for polymer clay and Buna cord--hate to have to buy a duplicate product

<Vyx> DEB, IT TURNS YELLOW VERY RAPIDLY ONCE DRY.

<deb> oh really

<deb> I've not noticed that

<Tartomama> yes

<Jambalaya> E6000 is clear at first, but it gets nasty yellowed later

<Tartomama> and gets brittle with soem products

<Jambalaya> yes

<Tartomama> anyone ever use silicone?

<MonkeyMom> ohhh mine is always hidden

<Vyx> SILCONE GLUE, SURE, ISIS

<Stampverb> I can tell which clay artists used E6000--the glue blob holding on the pin back is yellow

<MonkeyMom> nope, like from the hardware store>

<Jambalaya> lol, verb, yep

<Tartomama> yes from the hardwares tore

<Vyx> IT'S EXCELLENT ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU NEED BODY, LIKE TO KEEP SOMETHING UP.

<Paivi> I use silicone for 3D-decoupage

<Wanda> i didn't know that about E6000!! So instead you use ????

<Vyx> PAPER TOLE, YOU USE A GOOD SILICONE GLUE. TINY BITS.

<MonkeyMom> do you mean the 2 part silicome epoxy or the stuff in the tube

<Tartomama> I took a bunch of my crafts in to the hardware store and the adhesives dude spent an aftrnoon doing research with me

<Jambalaya> depends on what surface wanda

<Wanda> jewelry

<Stampverb> wow Tarot that's great

<Jambalaya> glossy accents

<Tartomama> glossy, wanda

<Vyx> POLYCLAY I JUST LIKE TO USE LIQUID SCULPEY AND OTHER BITS OF CLAY TO GLUE THINGS TOGETHER.

<Janet> (but i love sniffing e6000)

<deb> ok so instead of E6000 use?

<Wanda> I just thought the E6000 would be even stronger

<Tartomama> he has a button that says "adhesives dude" on his coat

<Vyx> HEH, COOL ISIS!

<Tartomama> he started explaining how they worked

<Vyx> I LIKE THE CRAFTERS GOOP. HAVEN'T HAD THAT TURN YELLOW ON ME YET.

<Tartomama> and why they didn't

<Vyx> GREAT FOR GLUING GLASS BEAD THINGS TO PINBACKS.

<Wanda> ok, vyx

<Jambalaya> another great glue is the ultimate glue from crafters pick

<deb> ok crafters goop

<deb> for what jam?

<Vyx> ISIS, SOUNDS TO ME LIKE =YOU= SHOULD BE HAVING THE CAPS HERE!

<Tartomama> you aqre talkking about "goop", right?

<Jambalaya> ultimate can be used like white glue, or like a cement bond

<MonkeyMom> you mean dry to dry contact?

<Jambalaya> yes

<MonkeyMom> is it good for mounting stamps?

<deb> so if I were going to glue a large brass charm to a card I would use?

<Vyx> OH, DIDN'T KNOW THAT ABOUT ULTIMATE! GUESS I NEED SOME, LOL

<Jambalaya> never tried that

<Vyx> DEB, I'D USE DIAMOND GLAZE.

<Jambalaya> ya deb, glossy accents etc

<Wanda> so silicone glue - is that what it says on the package? Is it a tube?

<deb> ok I guess I need some glossy accenets

<Vyx> WANDA, THAT'S NORMALLY SOLD AS... CAULK. :)

<Wanda> oh, clear caulking - got it

<Vyx> SILICONE CAULK. COMES IN CLEAR, THAT'S THE KIND YOU WANT MOSTLY.

<Tartomama> vyx, it comes in smaller tubes, too

<Jambalaya> ooooooohhhhhhhhhhh

<Paivi> Mine silicone is in metal tube

<Jambalaya> i never used that, have to try it

<Stampverb> used for bathtubs etc

<deb> really???

<deb> that's an adhesive??

<deb> well the things you learn hanging around in cyberstampers!!!

<Tartomama> and you can put a small tubing tip on it and get a thin thin strip of it to use

<Vyx> YAH, IT DOES COME IN SMALLER TUBES THAN THOSE GIANT CAULK GUN SIZED. BUT WATCH OUT, CUZ NOT ALL IS CLEAR EVEN IF IT SAYS IT IS.

<deb> WHO knew!!!!

<Tartomama> ask the adhesives person at the hardware store

<Stampverb> so how do ya know which are REALLY clear, Vyx?

<Janet> the adhesive guy!

<deb> lol janet

<Tartomama> they deal with this all day long

<Jambalaya> see deb, us stampers are smarter that the average bear

<Tartomama> and know which silicon will bond clear

<deb> I knew that

<deb> cak

<Paivi> I use silicone instead of those thick double-sided stickers

<Vyx> TRIAL AND ERROR. BUT GENERALLY, IF THEY COME OUT OF THE TUBE CLEAR, THEY'LL STAY THAT WAY.

<cak> yes'm?

<Wanda> so what brand do you get?

<deb> I need this log

<Tartomama> wait

<Vyx> AVOID THE KIND THAT COME OUT WHITE AND SAY THEY TURN CLEAR.

<Tartomama> vyx?

<deb> I think I forgot to turn on my log

<Vyx> WHAT ISIS?

<Tartomama> asking is really the way to go

<MonkeyMom> blow in its ear

<cak> So do I! I'll be posting it soon

<Tartomama> many of the manufacturers change their covers

<Tartomama> to get men to buy more

<Vyx> ISIS, ONLY IF YOU HAVE A GOOD ADHESIVES GUY AT YOUR LOCAL HARDWARE STORE.

<Tartomama> cause they never ask

<Tartomama> they just see a new one and think.I don't have this

<Jambalaya> jeez, no matter what product, the next time you go to buy it, the package is different, i hate that

<Tartomama> i have always had great luck then

<Tartomama> i ask if anyone does the adhesives for contractors

<Wanda> so you use silicone more for dimension than general glueing and it would also work good for charms and things

<Tartomama> i use silicone for a lot of processes

<Tartomama> it works well with polyclay

<Tartomama> and for using with multiple things, like gluing wood, metal and plastic in the same project

<Paivi> I've used silicone only for adding dimensions. I've not tried to leave it visible

<Tartomama> altho now I think I'm going to try more glossy

<cak> I always have trouble with the thicker type adhesives--they always glob up on me

<Vyx> well, ask me why I'll never use the premium silicone to caulk another tub... lol... silicone is very slippery when cured.

<Tartomama> do you use a craftstick?

<deb> ouch

<cak> uh, mostly my finger

<Vyx> this is good, usually... except when it fails to stick to the tub surround.

<Jambalaya> eeewwww

<deb> lol

<cak> (lol I didn't even notice your missing t TM)

<deb> I liked the tart o mama better

<Vyx> hehehe... i wuz wondering about that name.

<Vyx> me too!

<Tarotmama> cxak, try keeping both sizes of craftsticks around for applications

<Tarotmama> and also palette knives

<Vyx> AND LOTS OF TOOTHPICKS!

<Tarotmama> yep

<Jambalaya> and credit cards

<Tarotmama> for them tiny places

<Tarotmama> and straight pins

<Tarotmama> i also keep rubberbands around for clamping

<Tarotmama> and aslo clothespins

<cak> sounds like a plan

<cak> I like bulldog clips for a lot of things

<Jambalaya> ya and binding clips too

<Jambalaya> i like those cuz they fold almost flat

<cak> true

<Janet> clips of any sort rule.

<Vyx> WEIGHT FOR THINGS DONE WITH SOME KINDS OF GLUES IS A GOOD THING.

<cak> I love the mini-clamps from the hardware store

<MonkeyMom> I mostly sit on things

<Vyx> LOL!

<Janet> LOL you too>>>

<MonkeyMom> yes, really

<Jambalaya> not practical, i'd crush them

<Tarotmama> old tired dogs that sleep alot are good for that too

<Janet> i hate it when stuff sticks to my butt, tho

<Vyx> I USE AN ACRYLIC BLOCK AND A SMALL CAST IRON PAN FOR WEIGHT.

<Tarotmama> o vyx

<cak> I'd be afraid that all my weight would squeeze out all the adhesive!

<Tarotmama> lol

<Tarotmama> so practical

<MonkeyMom> and no one tells you till you've done the shopping

<Tarotmama> lol

<Tarotmama> that's tp on your shoe, MM

<Jambalaya> oh i just learned something else

<Janet> every now and then some adhesive does squeeze out, that's when you're wearing art on your ass

<Jambalaya> this may be common knowledge, but i didn't know it

<Tarotmama> ?

<MonkeyMom> that's better than what's usually on my shoe

<Janet> LOL

<Jambalaya> you know stuff that has an adhesive on it already, like magnet sheets?

<Janet> yeah?

<Tarotmama> yes....

<Jambalaya> well if you warm it in your hands before peeling off backing paper, it sticks better

<cak> really?

<cak> wow

<Wanda> really

<Janet> if you sit on it for a while, it does, too.<g>

<MonkeyMom> or if it's a REALLY large item

<MonkeyMom> you sit

<Jambalaya> ya the warmth activates the glue

<deb> lol

<Tarotmama> i keep the backing paper and put my acrylic blocks on it when I change them, since I use psoter tape on the blocks
