<purplrose> oh i love that pop up card

<MomCat> Thank you

<cak> it's great, isn't it? It has so much depth

<purplrose> yes it does

<MomCat> do we have a quorum yet?

<cak> http://dragonriddle.com/popup/ is the url to start with

<MomCat> http://dragonriddle.com/popup/

<MomCat> I TYPE VERY SLOWLY SO PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH ME AND WAIT UNTIL I CALL FOR QUESTIONS AFTER EACH PIECE. THANK YOU!

<MomCat> BACKGROUND PAPERS ARE FROM WAUSAU PAPERS http://www.wausaupapers.com/index2.htm

<MomCat> THEY DO NOT SELL TO THE PUBLIC, BUT THEY WILL BE HAPPY TO FIND A RETAILER NEAR YOU IF NONE OF OUR VENDORS HAS IT. AT THEIR RETAILERS YOU USUALLY HAVE TO BUY IT BY THE REAM

<MomCat> BUT OUR VENDORS WILL SELL SMALL PACKAGES OR INDIVIDUAL SHEETS. THEY DO WHOLESALE TO OTHER CONTINENTS THAN NORTH AMERICA. THIS PAGE HAS A E-MAIL FORM SO YOU CAN FIND OUT WHO CARRIES IT WHERE-EVER YOU ARE. HTTP://WAUSAUPAPERS.DWAVE.NET/INDEX.CFM

<miles> hello sandy

<Janet> a lot of our convention vendors sell smaller amount of papers, good colors and all. especially check Creative Images

<MomCat> THE BACK GROUND PAPER FOR THIS CARD IS ROYAL MARBLE BLUE

<sandy> hi

<MomCat> Royal Marble http://www.wausaupapers.com/see/see_rm.htm

<Janet> Creative Images for sure sells that! I've bought it from them!

<MomCat> I LOVE THIS PAPER FOR SKIES

<MomCat> http://dragonriddle.com/popup/

<MomCat> AT THE TOP LEFT IS A LINK

<MomCat> TO THE HOW TO PAGES

<MomCat> http://dragonriddle.com/popup/PopupHowTo.html

<MomCat> tHIS CARD LOOKS IMPRESSIVE BUT IS SO SIMPLE TO DO

<MomCat> YOU NEED 3 PIECES OF PAPER

<MomCat> CUT TO THE SIZES INDICATED

<MomCat> YOU WILL FIND THAT ONCE YOU ARE COMFORTABLW WITH THIS

<MomCat> YOU CAN VARY THE SIZES

<MomCat> ANY QUESTIONS?

<cak> so far, so good

<MomCat> FOLD YOUR BIG PIECE OF PAPER IN HALF

<MomCat> FOLD THE PAPERS AS SHOWN BY THE DOTTED LINES

<MomCat> THE BIG PIECE SHOULD HAVE A VALLEY FOLD \/

<MomCat> ALL THE FOLDS ON THE LITTLE PIECES SHOULD BE MOUNTAIN FOLDS /\

<MomCat> ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FOLDS

<cak> http://dragonriddle.com/popup/ (intro) and http://dragonriddle.com/popup/PopupHowTo.html (instructions)

<phyl> very nice and clear Mom

<cak> nope, not from me

<MomCat> I AM GOING TO CALL THE PIECES BY THEIR COLORS

<MomCat> AFTER YOU HAVE FOLDED THE PINK PIECE IN THE MIDDLE

<MomCat> OPEN IT AND FOLD THE EDGES

<MomCat> NOW TURN IT OVER

<MomCat> AND PLACE THE CENTERFOLD OF THE PINK RIGHT OVER THE CENTERFOLD OF THE BUFF PAPER

<MomCat> USE GLUE OR DOUBLE SIDED TAPE TO GLUE THE FOLDED UNDER EDGES OF THE PINK TO THE BUFF PAPER

<MomCat> ANY QUESTIONS?

<Patywak> not sure about that last direction

<phyl> your pictures are great

<Patywak> one goes inside the other?

<Regina> I love this, but I'm pooped after three nites in a row & work day tomorrow. Thanks!

<MomCat> YES THE PINK PIECE WILL BE ON THE INSIDE OF THE CARD

<Patywak> valleys together?

<MomCat> VALLEY FOR THE BUFF

<MomCat> MOUNTAIN FOR THE PINK

<Patywak> ok ty

<MomCat> YW

<MomCat> 3B SHOWS HOW THIS MAKES A "STEP" ON THE INSIDE OF THE CARD

<MomCat> NEXT DO THE SAME THING WITH THE BLUE, BUT STICK IT DOWN WITH REPOSITIONABLE TAPE OR GLUE

<MomCat> BECAUSE SOME TIMES YOU HAVE TO ADJUST SIZES AND POSITIONS TO MAKE THE CARD "WORK"

<MomCat> AND THE CENTER MOUNTAIN FOLD OF THE BLUE

<MomCat> LINES UP WITH THE SENTER MOUNTAIN FOLD OF THE PINK

<MomCat> IF YOU LOOK AT THE CARD ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE, YOU CAN SEE THAT THE TOP STEP

<MomCat> IS NARROW AND PLACED TO ONE SIDE

<MomCat> THIS IS A VERY VERSITILE TECHNIQUE

<MomCat> THE BUTTERFLY'S ANTENNA ARE MADE FROM WIRE

<MomCat> LETS GO BACK TO http://dragonriddle.com/popup/

<MomCat> All stamps from Evolving Images http://cyberstampers.com/convention/evo/

<MomCat> Dolphin and whales are from plate #2 (small) or plate #12-A (large)

<MomCat> Shells from plate #5 (small) or plate #37 (large)

<MomCat> http://dragonriddle.com/popup/

<cak> http://dragonriddle.com/popup/ (intro) and http://dragonriddle.com/popup/PopupHowTo.html (instructions)

<MomCat> ANY QUESTIONS?

<cak> nope. very clear!

<MomCat> LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT HOW THIS CARD WAS BUILT UPON THE FOUNDATION OF STEPS

<MomCat> WHEN YOU ARE ASSEMBLING A POP-UP CARD, USE REPOSITIONABLE TAPE OR GLUE

<MomCat> BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO EXPERIMENT TO MAKE SURE THAT NOTHING STICKS OUT WHEN THE CARD IS CLOSED

<MomCat> I MADE THREE WAVES FOR THIS CARD BY SMOOSHING INK RIGHT ONTO THE CARD STOCK

<phyl> love smooshing

<MomCat> I STARTED WITH LIGHT BLUES AND GREENS

<MomCat> AND MADE EACH WAVE DARKER THAN THE ONE BEFORE

<MomCat> THE FIRST TWO WAVES ARE ON THE BOTTOM STEP

<MomCat> THE DOLPHIN IS FASTENED TO THE FRONT OF THE BOTTOM STEP

<MomCat> actually to the waves

<MomCat> AND PLACED SO IT RISES ABOVE THE WAVE

<MomCat> THE ORCA IS FASTENED TO THE FRONT OF THE BACK WAVE

<MomCat> AND THE TAIL IS FASTED TO THE BACK OF THE BACK WAVE

<MomCat> YOU CAN SEE THAT BY NOT FASTENING THE TAIL TO THE CARD ITSELF YOU GET SHADOWS WHICH GIVE IT DEPTH

<MomCat> I PUT THE SHELLS ON THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE CARD JUST SO IT WOULDN'T BE EMPTY

<MomCat> WHEN YOU HAVE THINGS PLACED WHERE YOU WANT THEM, STICK THEM DOWN WITH PERMANENT ADHESIVE

<MomCat> I USE RED-LINER TAPE FROM STUBBY STAMPERS

<MomCat> TO FASTEDN THE STEPS IN PLACE

<MomCat> BECAUSE THERE IS A LOT OF TENSION THAT TENDS TO PULL THEM LOOSE

<MomCat> QUESTIONS?

<phyl> so you stamped the waves and cut them out and adhered them to the front of the pop ups?

<MomCat> YES

<phyl> nice touch the tail. I like that

<MomCat> TO THE FRONT OF THE STEPS

<phyl> ok i see thanks

<MomCat> WHAT OTHER THINGS CAN Y'ALL THINK OF TO DO WITH THIS TECHNIQUE?

<phyl> toys popping out of a toy chest

<MomCat> OPEN FLOOR NOW

<Janet> scenic stamping

<MomCat> OOH!

<MomCat> FROM BEHIND A GRAVESTONE, PHYL

<phyl> ya ya neat

<MomCat> PATY, I HAVEN'T SEEN ONE

<MomCat> BUT NOW YOU HAVE MY BRAIN WORKING

<Patywak> well, what I meant was after it was opened, it would APPEAR that the leaves were falling down.

<Patywak> or just turn the card upside down! LOL

<MomCat> i DON'T THINK IT WORKS UPSIDE DOWN

<MomCat> WILL NEED MORE INNOVATION

<Patywak> I know...just craziness

<MomCat> LOL
