<Jambalaya> THIS IS A DISCUSSION CLASS, SO I'LL JUST GET US STARTED

<Jambalaya> THIS DISCUSSION WAS INSPIRED BY CAK

<cak> it was???

<Jambalaya> IT WAS CAK!

<Dani> LOL

<JonaGerma> lol

<cak> (oh man, I'm getting so old, I can't remember *any*thing)

<deb> lol

<Jambalaya> WE WERE TALKING ABOUT PACKING TOOLS FOR WHEN CAK COMES DOWN TO ENCHANTED INKS BOOKWORKS IN JANUARY

<cak> Oh yeah!

<JonaGerma> one thing I really need to have is my big tupperware box 60liter

<Dani> Senior moment?

<Patywak> cak must not be afk anymore lol

<Patywak> :o)

<cak> I think that so much of it depends on where you're going and how (plane vs car, etc)

<Jambalaya> I LIVE IN NEW ORLEANS, AND THERE AREN'T ANY STAMP STORES HERE

<Patywak> as big as that place is?????

<Jambalaya> SO WHEN I WANT TO GO TO CLASSES AND SUCH IT INVOLVES TRAVEL<G>

<deb> me too vicki

<cak> What do you usually pack?

<Jambalaya> PACKING UP A TOOL KIT IS ALMOST AN ART

<Sprout> First thing is old clothes you don't care about!!!

<Dani> Almost everything in my wardrobe is OK then...

<Jambalaya> CUZ YOU NEVER KNOW AHEAD WHAT ALL YOU WILL REALLY NEED

<cak> (you and me Dani

<deb> I spend more time packing art supplies than my clothes !!

<Sprout> Me too and take more srt supplies with me than clothes.

<Jambalaya> OH ME TOO, I DON'T CARE IF CLOTHES GET STUFFS ON EM<G>

<Dani> and they take more space than the clothes...

<deb> one time I had to buy clothes

<Jambalaya> I CARE WHETHER I HAVE THE RIGHT SCISSORS<G>

<deb> lol

<Dani> I don't care about the scissors... I rip the papers with my teeth...

<Dani> soooo artsy

<Jambalaya> LOL

<deb> <G>

<Patywak> If you're traveling by plane make sure you don't put the scissors in your carry on, or it's good bye scissors at security!

<Dani> so what do you pack?

<Jambalaya> OH YES PATY GOOD TIP

<Sprout> This is the essential list I give my students Godd scissors, Xacto knife and extra blades, small cutting mat, ruler with a steel edge Pencil, white eraser

<Dani> But so you can't work on an altered plane...

<Dani> What a shame...

<Patywak> even your paper trimmers have cutting edges remember

<ejje> This is my first time here, I'm from Norway. Is this a real class? If not were can I find it? I'm not so good to write in English :(

<Dani> Hmmm... any of you ever thought of threatening a pilot with a trimmer?

<Jambalaya> IF YOU HAVE TO FLY, IT'S GOING TO BE BEST TO PUT NOTHING IN YOUR CARRYON

<cak> it is ejje! It's a discussion about traveling and packing supplies for travel

<Dani> Hi Ejje, I'm from Italy

<Patywak> no Dani, but it does have a sharp point

<Jambalaya> YA WE KNOW THEY AREN'T DANGEROUS, BUT THE SECURITY GUARDS THINK WERE NUTS

<Sprout> tweezers, bone folder, variety of tapes, paint brushes, permanent glue stick or tape runner and an old terry towel for cleaning stamps.

<Dani> We have classes on Saturday morning, just for us Euro girls

<Patywak> no tweezers in carry on either

<Patywak> had some taken away from my cosmetic bag once

<ejje> Ok, Thanks Dani

<Jambalaya> ya they even take nail clippers now

<Patywak> right

<Jambalaya> hi pat

<Dani> Jam, can you tell Ejje about the Euro group (private, in case....)

<cak> I'm traveling by car and sometimes that's harder 'cause you can take practically *anything*

<Sprout> Check the kit and take clothes and meds in the carry on.

<Patywak> I'm an insulin dependent diabetic and I have a letter from my Dr. stating that it's necessary for me to carry needles. Never had any problem with them.

<Jambalaya> the euro class meets right here every saturday morning ejje

<cak> (hard when you have no external guidelines)

<Sprout> When I travel in a car it feels like I take EVERYTHING.

<Patywak> gotta fold some clothes, bbl

<Jambalaya> i like to take my favorite coloring mediums too

<Jambalaya> my peerless palette for one

<Jambalaya> and of course my waterbrush

<Jambalaya> sit still pat

* Jambalaya hot glues pat to the chair

<pmstamper> hi, closed to many windows

<cak> lol

<pmstamper> ty

<deb> lol

* deb closes the blinds

<cak> I have so many favorites--rulers, pens, etc.

<Jambalaya> and no one mentioned glue stick

<Dani> Inkpads. And Inkpads. Oh... and the inkpads

<Dani> Any inkpad I put my avid hands on

<Dani> I have a love affair with inkpads

<Jambalaya> lol, usually the classes i've been to provided the inkpads

<Dani> Classes? Jam, I TEACH classes here, and it's a wasteland... no inkpads

<Jambalaya> but if you'll need any, they usually let you know that

<Dani> and I'm so jealous of my inkpads...

<Dani> I could kill if one of them gets ruined...

<Jambalaya> oh ya, i'm not crazy about sharing my ink pads either<g>

<Jambalaya> i'll share ideas, and lots of other stuff, but i hate my ink pads to get contaminated

<Dani> grrrrr

<Dani> don't even speak of contamination...

<Jambalaya> lol

<cak> but it's kind of a given when you work in a group that things will get shared (I put my initials on everything)

<Jambalaya> oh cak, are you making a list?

<cak> I am

<cak> (I love logging)

<Jambalaya> besides my xacto knife, i bring a regular utility knife too

<Jambalaya> for tougher jobs

<Jambalaya> like cutting bookboard

<Jambalaya> hi Tracy

<Dani> Hi Tracy

<cak> would you take something like the rotating cutting board? (one of my favorites, but...)

<Jambalaya> we're discussing what we pack in a tool kit to bring to classes or retreats

<Jambalaya> i carry my swivel clip yes

<cak> hi cherub78--people are helping me make a packing list!

<Dani> A stamp positioner. Wherever I go

<Jambalaya> oh and what to pack all this stuff IN

<Dani> A huge bag?

<Jambalaya> there are so many tote bags, and organizers to choose from these days

<Dani> Not here...

<pmstamper> I bought one or two of those and find I really never use them (stamp positioner).

<pmstamper> What is advantage of using one that I am maybe missing?

<Jambalaya> i use unmounteds so positioners aren't really needed imho

<Dani> I use them a lot... I do a great amount of "fixed position" stamping

<Dani> I have a lot of mounted stamps... that's what I used it for

<cak> so a lot of it depends on how you stamp--take your favorite tools??

<Dani> but sometimes I use it also with UM

<Tracy> Did I miss the class?

<Jambalaya> thats right cak

<Jambalaya> stuff you use whenever you stamp

<Jambalaya> no Tracy this is the class

<cak> what if it's been so long, you can't remember!?!

* Jambalaya Bops cak

* cak rubs the bump on her head

<deb> lol

<Jambalaya> well, in most classes, if you forgot something, someone there will share

<Dani> Some ice? For your head...

<cak> I also need to keep track of things I want to bring to share--is that being presumptious though?

<Jambalaya> stampers are generally the most sharing folks

<cak> (thanks Dani)

<Dani> Not if I must share my pads...

<cak> lol--

<Jambalaya> lol, ok, not danis (or my) pads

<Dani> I can share my husband, if someone asks for him, but NEVER my Versamark or my White Brilliance

<deb> roflol

<cak> priorities!

<Jambalaya> wb Tracy

<Dani> Sure!

<pmstamper> It is good to label your stuff, a lady next to me at a class loned me a bone folder and walked off without it, although I had placed it back on the table by her stuff.

<Dani> I always take with me stuff that other may forget.

<pmstamper> I had to leave it at the store for her to pick up later, but I didn't even know her last name to tell them it was hers.

<Tracy> :d

<Jambalaya> cak, no, it's not presumptious to bring stuff to share

<Dani> Just goodwill? Like around Xmas?

<Jambalaya> i have a little pack of stuffs i'm going to bring to bookworks

<Jambalaya> if i remember to pack it<g>

<cak> I was thinking about bringing a recipe for a surface "paint" that can mimic metal and a book about folding boxes, etc.

<Jambalaya> cool

<cak> So stuff you think people might be interested in?

<Dani> OK. What about loaning a truck?

<Jambalaya> at bookworks, redstick brings her whole studio,

<cak> how about books and stuff to give away?

<Jambalaya> so there will plenty of all kinds of stuff

<Dani> OK. A truck

<cak> lol

<Jambalaya> but there can always be more

<Dani> A train?

<Dani> A cargo?

<pmstamper> looks like tracy needs the hot glue now

<Jambalaya> ya

<Dani> BBS... I have it in this drawer...

<tracy_a> I can finally see the text now!

<Jambalaya> yay tracy_a

<Jambalaya> we're packing our tool kits for classes and retreats tracy

<Jambalaya> oh i know what no one mentioned!

<cak> what about unique stuff like stencils?

<Jambalaya> CHOKLIT

<cak> LOL

<cak> man we'll be soooo popular (for a while)

<Jambalaya> whats a stamp gathering with no choklit???

<Dani> school

<Jambalaya> lol, dani

<Dani> and choklit without a leeeeeetle glass of whisky?

<Patywak> bak

<Patywak> what'd I miss? tee hee

<JonaGerma> lol

<Jambalaya> wb Patywak

<Patywak> ty

<cak> what about stencils and punches?

<Jambalaya> if you can squeeze it in, it's always good to have a small assortment of extra cardstock too

<Sprout> Hole punch

<Dani> Well. To be serious (at least once) I'd say a good sharp knife, my inkpads, my best loved stamps and beads....

<Jambalaya> cak's kit is getting very heavy now

<cak> lol

<Dani> don't forget the chocolate

<Sprout> Don't forget a beading needle if you take beads.

<Jambalaya> oh yes and for a bookmaking class, extra needles

<Dani> My kind of beads are large... I use them to embellish books and boxes

<Jambalaya> cuz you break a lot of needles<g>

<cak> but before I felt like I was going to just stuff things in til we run out of room

<Jambalaya> hi SNUZZEE

<pmstamper> are you driving or going by plane. There's alot you cannot take on a plane these days.

<cak> driving for sure

<Jambalaya> pm, you can if you pack it in the check in luggage

<Dani> I like to use those (I don't know the name) that were meant to help you put the thread in the needle

<Jambalaya> needle threaders

<pmstamper> lol

<Dani> OK

<cak> big eye needles?

<Dani> Needle threaders. To slide beads in yarns...

<Sprout> or dental floss threaders

<Jambalaya> ya, i like tapestry needles, #18, & #16

<Dani> Ouch!

<Jambalaya> for bookbinding that is

<Dani> Next time mind where you put your needles

<Dani> especially #18

<Jambalaya> lol

<Jambalaya> but tapestry needles are blunt, dani

<Dani> But my a.. is soft...

<Dani> no need of a sharp point

<Jambalaya> lol

<Jambalaya> ok, i won't keep them on the chair

<Jambalaya> hi melanie

<Dani> Thanks, Madam

<melanie> hello

<cak> I have a couple of fishing tackle boxes and a fabric roll-up for the smaller stuff. I think a tote might be best for things like the heat gun, right?

<Dani> Hi Melanie

<pmstamper> did anyone mention taking paint brushes?

<Jambalaya> we're packing our tool kits for stamp classes and retreats

<Dani> Fabric roll-up? Great idea!

<Dani> I must make one

<Jambalaya> i said waterbrush, but ya paintbrushes too

<Jambalaya> and sponges

<pmstamper> good for applying all kinds of stuff like glue and paint, as well as brushing away excess glitter or pearlex.

<cak> not to mention your favorite gluing brushes and wax paper

<Dani> and add that hint of makeup before leaving...

<Jambalaya> oh and i keep some of those junk credit cards too, for spreading glue

<Dani> I won't tell you for what I use them..

<cak> now we're curious

<Jambalaya> well now you have to tell

<Dani> Open doors.

<Jambalaya> talk woman

<Jambalaya> rofl

<cak> lol

<Dani> You can't imagine how many doors we have to open

<Dani> and they work!

<cak> I saved someone's muffins one time (she'd locked herself out while baking), she was shocked at how easy it was to break in

<Dani> Really. Did you think that Police use keys or that kind of "IOpenEverythingTool"?

<Dani> No. We use credit cards...

<cak> (and not to pay the locksmith)

<cak> what about information?? How much is too much?

<cak> like bookbinding books for this example

<Jambalaya> how do you mean cak?

<Dani> You go to a class carrying books?

<cak> (radical, ain't it?)

<Jambalaya> cak, you won't have time to read<g>

<Dani> makes me think of a mistress and an apple...

<Dani> I hate apples...

<cak> iow, no one will have the time to read so don't bother, eh?

<Jambalaya> nope

<Dani> and... if I was the teacher... this could be a bit annoying....

<Melanie> lol

<Dani> Anyway I'm not, so...

<cak> lol--it's the teacher I want to share 'em with though!

<cak> but that sounds like it'll be a waste of space for this trip

<Jambalaya> ya

<Jambalaya> unless you want to alter one or something

<Dani> waste of space? Woman! What are you using to go there? A B130

<cak> nope! I might bring some to give away though

<cak> (I must declutter. I must declutter. I must declutter)

<Dani> ir seems a bad word... what does it mean?

<Dani> (I like bad words...)

<Jambalaya> lol, cak

<cak> getting rid of stuff that you don't use, but keep hanging onto--not my strong point

<cak> I hang on reeeeeal well

<Dani> Oh... declutter here, please

<Melanie> ooh i cant get rid of my papers!!! they are too precious LOL

<Dani> I have some space left

<Dani> You can... you must.... give me your eyes.... you can...

<cak> (believe me, you don't want my old eyes)

<Dani> I was just trying to mesmerize you...

<Jambalaya> OK, EVERYONE, THIS WAS ANOTHER GREAT DISCUSSION

<Jambalaya> BUT IT'S TIME TO MOVE AGAIN

<Dani> And the list?

<cak> Yes, thank you! It was very helpful to me

<Jambalaya> NEXT EVENT IS IN: #trouble

<Dani> I want to see the list!

<Dani> ok...

<cak> lol I'll post a draft soon

<deb> thanks Jambalaya

<deb> good discussion

<Sprout> See you later.

<Jambalaya> NEXT EVENT IS IN: #trouble

<cak> see you next class!
