<Scout> I'm here cause I made a mistake once!
<Jambalaya> there's actually no such thing as a mistake in stamping<g>
<EvieNC> "A" mistake?
<Artsy> Scout, LOL!
<Janet> did you, Scout?? or were you mistaken?
<Janet> and it wasn't a mistake at all.
<Scout> you got it, Janet
<Janet> LOL
<Artsy> Can you make mistakes? Everything is ART...
<Janet> there are mistakes, and there are happy accidents :)
<Scout> well, perhaps it could be said that I did make a mistake. I got involved in rubberstamping and my place has been a pigpen of stamping supplies ever since.
<valeriej> lol
<Janet> LOL that's no mistake, that's a happy accident :)
<Janet> mine used to be a pigpen of other hobbies. Now I'm more focused.
<Scout> well, I presume we are all in the same boat
<Judy> lol, Scout!
<Janet> Hi, Louise!
<Louise> Hello All!!
<Janet> Not Jambalaya, her craftroom is so neat and clean!
<Scout> Send some of that focus over here, Jan
<Scout> And the maid to go along with it
<Janet> can I send some of my mess with it??
<Janet> but happy day this morning, I found my document ink!!
<Janet> it was hiding under my chair
<Judy> hope the lid was on, Janet!
<Janet> (along with half a piece of bread, a couple pieces of cardstock and one really puppy chewed candle)
<Janet> it was!!! told ya, it was a GOOOOOD morning!
<Judy> lol!
<Janet> under my chair is really really scary
<Janet> that's where trash goes to die
<Janet> hey, better than bowls of acrylic paint!
<Judy> think we've had more rain in the past week than we had all last year!
<Scout> Dick has to get out and pump water out of the pool, as it is now up to the top and I don't think plants will enjoy a chlorine bath
<Judy> paint in your swimming pool, Janet?
<Janet> yeah, it was VERY expensive painted paper<g>
<Janet> Redstick did a class on how she hand dyes her tissue and I had to try it
<Janet> nevah again, I'm buying it! much cheaper!!!
<Judy> do you have a permenantly colorful pool?
<Janet> $110 for the emergency pool guys
<Jambalaya> ya and red never told anyone again how to make that paper!
<Janet> i'd just replastered
<Judy> ouch!
<Scout> oh, no, janet
<Janet> it's just as well, trust me, it's cheaper to just buy it from her. :)
<Jambalaya> yep
<Janet> and nobody does it better!
<Janet> I have to leave about halfway through here, but before I go I can tell how I've covered a multitude of sins
<MomCat> yes
<Bev> Is this the mistakes class?, or am I in the wrong place?
* Jambalaya tosses the caps to Janet
* MomCat tosses caps to janet
<MomCat> lol
<Janet> CAUGHT 'EM!
<Janet> CAPS FLYING EVERYWHERE!!
<Janet> MY DESK IS A WICKED THING.
<Janet> NOT ONLY DOES IT EAT MY SUPPLIES, BUT IT ALSO PUTS SMUDGES AND SPILLS ON MY WORK
<Judy> lol
<Janet> FOR REAL!!!
<Janet> THOSE CAN'T ALL BE MY FINGERPRINTS!
<Janet> BUT A NICE FINGER PRINT BORDER REALLY CAN LOOK VERY COOL!
<MomCat> Chico's paw prints?
<Janet> AND YOU CAN FANCY IT UP BY SPONGING ON TOP OF IT, TOO
<Scout> an elbow into an open ink pad can be nice, also
<Jambalaya> ya ya that's it blame the poor cat
<Janet> CHICO MY CAT LICKS EVERY THING I MAKE
<Janet> I'VE PATTERNED FAKE LICK PRINTS ALONG EDGES TOO
<Janet> AND BEFORE THERE WERE DISTRESS INKS, I'VE SPLATTERED WORK WITH COFFEE ON PURPOSE BEFORE
<Janet> TO MATCH THESPLATTERS THAT GOT THERE BY ACCIDENT
<Jambalaya> ya sure janet
<Scout> Just wish there was a way to get rid of those ridge marks when you accidently rock the stamp
<Janet> O
<Janet> I'VE CUT OUT IMAGES THAT HAD RIDGES BEFORE, THEN GLUED THEM BACK ON
<Scout> some pads are extremely cushy, so the stamp stick in farther and that leaves them also
<Janet> I THINK IT'S A LAW OF NATURE THAT THE MORE ELEMENTS YOU HAVE IN A PIECE, THE GREATER THE LIKELIHOOD OF GOOFS
<Janet> I DO TRY TO REMEMBER TO CHECK AND CLEAN EDGES WITH A Q-TIP
<Janet> BUT I DON'T ALWAYS REMEMBER
<Janet> (CLEAN EDGES BEFORE I STAMP IT)
<Janet> I HAVE TROUBLE WITH NOT GETTING A GOOD COMPLETE IMAGE
<Janet> OR SLIDING THE STAMP
<Janet> THE NOT COMPLETE IMAGE I CAN FIX, I JUST DRAW IN THE PARTS I MISSED.
<Janet> BUT HOW DO YOU FIX A SLID STAMP???
* Janet HAS CAPS UP FOR GRABS
<Jambalaya> well, first, you don't let janets near the ink<g>
<Scout> Slide it somemore so it looks like its in motion?
<Janet> (other than pretending you meant to do that and do a couple of others and say the images are speeding across your page)
<Janet> LOL
<Janet> yeah, Scout!
<Judy> start over?
<Janet> lol that's usually how i fix it
<BlackCats> lol, judy
<Janet> but when i'm almost finshed, i hate to start over
<Judy> save mistakes for serendipity cards?
<BlackCats> that's where heating with wood comes in handy...ready supply of kindling <G>
<Jambalaya> absolutely save them
<Janet> oh for sure!
<BlackCats> yes, even if the whole image isn't good, part of it should be usable
<Janet> or if they're really ugly, cut 'em into strips for paper weaving<g>
<Jambalaya> bc don't you dare burn good carstock
<BlackCats> or use it for punches
<BlackCats> lol, jam
<BlackCats> only if i mess up both sides
<EvieNC> or turn it over and stamp on the backside?
<Judy> gmta
<BlackCats> yes, evie, that's what i was just about to say
<Janet> a good piece of ruined cardstock makes a great cat whorf picker upper
<Jambalaya> and remember, there's always the back of it to try again, or use some other way
<Janet> (except when the cat whorfs on it already<g>)
* Jambalaya Bops Janet
<Janet> lol
<EvieNC> cat whorf...now there's a term I can understand.
<BlackCats> glitter glue can hide a multitude of mistakes
* Jambalaya hands janet a case of paper towels
<Janet> (I clean cat whorf more often than i stamp<g>)
<Janet> glitter glue!! what a great idea!
<BlackCats> either as a spot or start on the area of the mistake and then put lightly over the rest of the card
<Janet> a strategically placed piece of confetti works sometimes, too
<BlackCats> yes, or charms, faux gem, bitti beads
<BlackCats> or...
<Janet> (and there's always the trim it down even more and layer it)
<EvieNC> I stamped a lady and got one of those background blurbs on her skirt...just cut off the image and made it shorter.
<Jambalaya> ribbons
<Janet> ribbons!!
<BlackCats> stickers
<Judy> small stamps
<Jambalaya> evie, you really shouldn't stamp on people, they might get mean
<BlackCats> or...on that skirt
<Janet> LOL
<BlackCats> stamp a small bug, flower, whatever might work
<EvieNC> Jamba, you are so right!
<Scout> a pattern of that little swirly stamp like @ that is so popular
<Janet> peg stamps rule :)
<BlackCats> yes
<BlackCats> or...
<Scout> never can remember what that swirly thing is called
<Jambalaya> a swirly thing
<Janet> lol
<Scout> I have several sizes
<BlackCats> if you stamp a big stamp and part of it doesn't come out quite good enough
<BlackCats> cut it in thirds and layer on coordinating cs
<Janet> draw the rest in?
<BlackCats> then layer that on card
<Janet> oh that's a good idea!
<BlackCats> ty
<MomCat> I stamp and cutout my images
<Scout> cut a square, go around the edges like a frame with same color paint and mount
<Janet> i'm not that good with scissors
<Jambalaya> we don't let janets have sharp objects
<Janet> (this is true<g>)
<MomCat> so I dodge a lot of those problems
<Scout> Sometimes if I'm really careful, I wipe off the parts that did stamp, huff on the ink left on part that didn't and restamp
<BlackCats> yes, i do that too, momcat
<Scout> sometimes it lines up and I've saved it. What have you got to lose?
<BlackCats> good idea, scout
<Janet> when worse comes to worse, a nice opaque background works to save the cardstock :)
<BlackCats> yep
<BlackCats> or cut it into strips and weave
<Scout> Just make sure you wipe off the parts that did stamp or you'll have double image
<BlackCats> then put a medallion or something on top
<BlackCats> after you've trimmed the weave and mounted it on a card
<Janet> making a nice seal or embellishment, mistake-sized, that works sometimes
<Scout> A medallion or charm, etc. might be big enough to fill in that blank space and look like it was meant to be
<Jambalaya> i made a mistake once in a class i was taking
<Judy> or try Jam's spotlight technique
<BlackCats> if you're stamping a central image and it doesn't come out right
<Scout> like me, only once, Jam
<BlackCats> stamp the image repeatedly around the 1st
<Jambalaya> it was a really fancy card, with a domino in an oriental theme
<BlackCats> so that it is a background
<BlackCats> then redo central image as a layer on top
<Jambalaya> and the domino had gold leaf pen around sides
<Jambalaya> so naturally, my hand brushed across the blob of gold ink where you pump it to get it flowing, and smeared on the card
<Jambalaya> i was mortified!
<BlackCats> lol
<BlackCats> i *hate* those kinds of pens
<Jambalaya> so i quick pumped out more gold ink, and grabbed a piece of crumpled paper
<BlackCats> what did you do?
<Jambalaya> then blotted the ink all over the card
<BlackCats> ooooh,
<BlackCats> good idea
<Judy> good save, Jam
<Jambalaya> and everyone said hey what a wonderful oriental marbled gold background!
<Scout> You could also just repeat the smear with the side of your hand randomly on the background, so it looked like you meant to do it
<BlackCats> lol
<Louise> Sorry to leave, kids are home
<BlackCats> that's how some of the best ideas happen...by mistake
<Jambalaya> yep
<Scout> In regards to Blackcats last idea of the repeated background, mount the main one over a layer of solid paper and place on card to give more of an accent
<Jambalaya> i never admitted i had been clumsy<g>
<EvieNC> Suppose you are coloring an image with a marker and you go outside the lines. How do you fix that?
<Judy> cut image out?
<BlackCats> hi vincentia
<BlackCats> that would work
<EvieNC> I guess that's one way, Judy.
<Jambalaya> evie, go outside the lines all around, so it has that watercolor effect
<Vincentia> hiya!
<EvieNC> But some images are just not adaptable to that.
<BlackCats> yes, like a halo
<Judy> create matching background
<Jambalaya> hi Vincentia
<BlackCats> or shadow
<MomCat> put a charm or sticker over it
<EvieNC> I think I am too particular.
<BlackCats> lol
<Scout> I take a matching pen and try to make the outline a little wider. Just depends how far you went over
<BlackCats> coming to a satisfactory agreement with your inner critic is one of the very important things about art
<MomCat> that is a big problem to overcome - being picky about your own work
<EvieNC> Yes, it is hard to overcome.
<BlackCats> handmade doesn't mean perfect
<MomCat> but, ya-know there is probably a "mistake" in every card i have made for classes
<Scout> Wonder how many of the great paintings of the world had mistakes that were turned to genius by covering up
<Jambalaya> oh, and make yourself a pretty box and label it experiments gone bad
<BlackCats> good idea
<EvieNC> Now there's an idea I can relate to.
<MomCat> and as far as I can tell nobody but me can tell
<Paivi> but there's difference between hand-made and home-made
<BlackCats> or if you have a card that gets a bad error in the middle
<BlackCats> but the edges are ok
<EvieNC> I don't think any of us want our cards to look anything but professional. Do we?
<BlackCats> use it as a layer
<Scout> Paivi, maybe that's what someone told Grandma Moses at first, vbg
<MomCat> Evie, I decided not to make myself trying to have my work look professional
<Scout> I'm a latent grandma moses
<BlackCats> i use the edges of inkpads to color the edges of my cards a lot
<MomCat> me too Scout
<EvieNC> I do that too, Blackcat. And sometimes the inkpad slips!
<BlackCats> and sometimes if there is a little smear or smudge on the card
<BlackCats> i'll take my pinkie and dab a bit of ink very lightly here and there
<MomCat> I decided if Gradma Moses could paint thanksgiving with the plates looking like they are about to fall off the table
<MomCat> I could make crooded borders
<Scout> and with no perspective, Mom cat
<BlackCats> lol
<MomCat> crooked
<BlackCats> good advice, mc
<EvieNC> But that suited her style, Momcat.
<BlackCats> or point of view, i mean
<Scout> do we all have to wait till we turn 80 to be recognized, tho?
<MomCat> crooked borders suit my style, Evie
<BlackCats> nope
<BlackCats> not at all, scout
<EvieNC> LOL, Momcat. More power to you!
<MomCat> ty
<BlackCats> and hey, we are all doing this for fun
<BlackCats> and to allow our creative spirit to come out
<Jambalaya> bingo BlackCats!
<Scout> what do you guys do when using double sided tape to attach stuff and it gets on crooked or not in the right place?
<BlackCats> so if it makes us happy
<MomCat> and I can't/don't make straight layers even with Evo templates
<Judy> "Smudges and smears happen naturally when you stamp with all your heart"
<BlackCats> it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks
<EvieNC> I know that's true. I have a friend who is so much more creative than I am, and she just does not worry about stuff like that.
<MomCat> but I learned that I could tear around the templates
<Judy> have a stamp that says that
<MomCat> or cut around them with decorative scissors
<BlackCats> yes
<Scout> I like glue better cause I can move it around. That tape sometimes refuses to move over
<BlackCats> there's a stamp i need to get that says something like, smudges and smears courtesy of the cat
<Jambalaya> scout, you can lift it back up by using a piece of thread to separate the adhesive
<MomCat> and because I can 't seemed to get the borders lined up evenly
<Judy> Scout - the tape can sometimes be removed so you can start again
<Jambalaya> use the thread like dental floss
<MomCat> i mean the layers lined up
<Scout> ah, good idea, Jam. Never thought of that.
<MomCat> so I do them on slanted on purpose
<Jambalaya> of course, i've only read that, i've never laid anything down crooked myself<g>
<BlackCats> oh, lots of time when using double sided tape
<Scout> Ever accidently bend the corner of a card.....photo corners are good to cover that up
<MomCat> Scout, I ues repositionable tape to lay stuff out
<BlackCats> you will have a little edge of sticky
<MomCat> and then glue or permanent tape to stick it down tight
<BlackCats> i use transluscent glitter to cover that sticky edge
<Scout> Always frosts me when I pull out a piece of cardstock and find one of the corners icky.
<BlackCats> corner punches are good for that
<BlackCats> or...
<BlackCats> my card for last nite's mystery stamp
<BlackCats> didn't start out with the corners cut that way
<BlackCats> messed up one of the corners
<Jambalaya> lol
<BlackCats> so cut the other 3 off to match
<BlackCats> deckle or other decorative scissors are good for things like that too
<Scout> That was such a pretty card, BC
<BlackCats> ty
<Jambalaya> oh and all 4 corners don't have to match either
<BlackCats> yes
<Jambalaya> sometimes it's pretty cool, when just one corner is different
<BlackCats> yes
<Jambalaya> or 2 opposite corners
<Jambalaya> i love that look
<BlackCats> or use a corner punch in opposite corners
<BlackCats> lol
<Jambalaya> channeling<g>
<BlackCats> jam and i are channelling
<BlackCats> rofl
<Judy> still are
<Jambalaya> ok, stop that now<g>
<BlackCats> ya noticed <G>
<Scout> It is also murphy's law that if a just stamp card falls off the table, it falls face down, just like a piece of buttered bread. And I make matters worse by rolling my chair back to find it, and run over it witha wheel
<Scout> Big mistake coverup
<Jambalaya> roflmao scout
<BlackCats> y'all, we get real silly in here sometimes
<Judy> recycle bin is handy for those Scout
<BlackCats> yes
<Scout> Gonna ink up my chair wheels and make it a design
<BlackCats> or never fails...
<BlackCats> i'll get a run of cards set out to dry
<Jambalaya> hey good idea scout
<BlackCats> and here comes a cat or three
<BlackCats> so i have paw prints all over
<Judy> could look nice on the right card, Monica
<BlackCats> lol
<EvieNC> and I have to remove a cat off my desk before I can even begin to stamp.
<BlackCats> i'm in a cat card club that is high volume swaps
<BlackCats> so do production runs
<Jambalaya> well monica does tend to use a lot of cat images<g>
<BlackCats> more than one run has gone out with cat's embellishments
<BlackCats> <G>
<Scout> Another mistake is trying to pick out blending colors when working at nite. I use my Ott lite to see if they really go match
<BlackCats> but folks are used to getting pawprints and/or fur with my cards <G>
<Jambalaya> oh, ever try stamping on acetate, and get a blurred image?
<Scout> do match
<Jambalaya> just wipe it off with alcohol and start over
<BlackCats> yes! scout
<CJ> thanks for that tip
<BlackCats> good lighting is vital to good color matching
<Jambalaya> alcohol cleans off dominoes too
<BlackCats> on the acetate trick
<Scout> good to know, Jam
<MomCat> I use the full spectrum lights from the dragon cages for matching at night
<BlackCats> give your acetate a 1/4 turn before the next stamping
<Scout> dragon cages?
<MomCat> bearded dragon lizards
<Vincentia> why turn the acetate?
<Scout> ah, thank goodness I thought komodo!
<MomCat> lol
<BlackCats> i've found that a lot of times if you stamp in the same spot again
<BlackCats> you'll get the same mistake again
<Jambalaya> good tip monica
<BlackCats> but turning the acetate will change that
<BlackCats> and, when stamping on acetate
<Scout> oh, in the same spot where you wiped off, you mean?
<BlackCats> don't press down hard
<BlackCats> just kiss the stamp to the acetate
<BlackCats> yes, scout
<Jambalaya> ya, that's the hardest thing to remember with acetate, just "kiss" it
<BlackCats> and...if you are going to be doing a lot of things with acetate
<BlackCats> do yourself a favor
<BlackCats> get the good stuff
<Scout> But if you eventually stamp in that spot with something else, does it slide more or something?
<EvieNC> How do you know what is the good stuff?
<BlackCats> the cheap stuff doesn't work as well and you'll end up throwing out a lot
<Jambalaya> by cost<g>
<BlackCats> price
<EvieNC> ok, TY
<BlackCats> if you get it from a mall vendor
<BlackCats> it is good quality
<BlackCats> if you get it from office supply store
<BlackCats> go by price
<CJ> Which vendor sells it?
<BlackCats> discount store brands aren't likely to be the quality you need to get a good image
<Scout> How does the stuff you get off a bubble package work?
<BlackCats> um, check Rubber Chicken
<BlackCats> if she doesn't have it on her website
<BlackCats> email her
<Jambalaya> and i think creative images has acetate too, but check
<CJ> She has almost everything
<BlackCats> she has a lot of stuff that is not on her website
<BlackCats> or can get it for you
<BlackCats> you just have to ask
<BlackCats> or, right, creative images does have it
<Jambalaya> stubby has it sometimes, you can ask
<BlackCats> our vendors are very accommodating
<BlackCats> all you have to do is ask
<Judy> gotta go write up notes for my class tonight
<MomCat> creative images has clear boxes, check covers, etc.
<Judy> it's Shadow Stamping at 10:00 EDT
<BlackCats> and if they don't have something they may be able to steer you in the right direction
<Jambalaya> see ya then judy
<Judy> bye!
<BlackCats> ok, time for a bio break
<BlackCats> next class is in #cyberstampers
<Jambalaya> NEXT EVENT IS IN #cyberstampers
<EvieNC> Thanks, ladies. Enjoyed it.
<BlackCats> yw
