<Jambalaya> well, it's a discussion class

<Beezy> well.. i have never used unmounted stamps

<Beezy> im curious what ways you adhere them to a block?

<Jambalaya> you can save a lot of money and space using um's

<Beezy> or we could talk about the election

<Beezy> :)

* Jambalaya doesn't do politics

<Beezy> thats for sure

<Beezy> and ive seen several sheets so far in the convention stores that i loooove

<Jambalaya> i use gluestick to mount my stamps

<Jambalaya> a lot of folks use poster tape

<Jambalaya> and there are a lot of other ways too

<Beezy> do you pee them off when you are done?

<Jambalaya> i've tried them all

<Beezy> lol

<Beezy> peel

<Jambalaya> lol

<Jambalaya> yes,

<Jambalaya> when i'm stamping a lot, i keep a bowl of water on my table

<Jambalaya> then just peel off the stamps and toss them in the water

<Beezy> so when you buy a sheet , hwhat do you use to cut the seperate images out?

<Jambalaya> so the glue and the ink gets washed off

<Jambalaya> any good scissors will cut rubber, but you really want kai scissors

<Jambalaya> several of our vendors sell kai's

<Beezy> is that a brand?

<Jambalaya> yes

<Jambalaya> evolving images, and circustamps both sell them

<Jambalaya> they are the sharpest scissors you'll ever find

<Beezy> I heard the unmounted are great for stamping on round surfaces too?

<Jambalaya> yes indeed

<Jambalaya> and i use them with clay alot too

<Jambalaya> hi evie

<EvieNC> hello again, Jamba

<Jambalaya> we're talking about unmounted stamps

<EvieNC> Love 'em.

<EvieNC> storage is so much easier.

<Beezy> i took janet classs last night but i got confused because i havent worked wigth polymer clay before

<Jambalaya> yes it is

<EvieNC> and price also

<EvieNC> So how has the discussion gone so far? Most like UMs or Mtd?

<Jambalaya> poly clay is almost as addictive as stamps, beezy

<Jambalaya> beezy has never used um's yet

<EvieNC> OIC

<EvieNC> I buy both, design is my major criteria.

<Jambalaya> and everyone else is away from keyboard<g>

<Beezy> but i really like several of the vendors stamp sheets

<EvieNC> I see all those AKFs.

<Beezy> so i want to learn how to use them

<EvieNC> Some of my favs came unmounted.

<EvieNC> Jamb, do you use Easy Mount or?

<Jambalaya> beezy, the first time you trim a stamp is the only time you'll be scared<g>

<Jambalaya> no, i use gluestick

<EvieNC> I use Easy Mount, just can't seem to get as good an image without a cushion. Just me, I guess.

<Jambalaya> i've tried all the systems, and to me, all are a waste of money

<Beezy> yes i was wondering about the cutting

<Jambalaya> that's just my personal opinion

<EvieNC> If it works for you without the cushion, then go for it.

<Beezy> one lady i met said she stuck her UM to casset boxes as her base

<Jambalaya> hi pest

<pest> hi ladies

<Jambalaya> yes beezy, that's a good way to try it out

<Jambalaya> pest, do you use um's?

<Beezy> hi pest

<pest> yes

<EvieNC> I was very lucky. My husband had all these thick acrylic sheets left over from some project.

<pest> hey Breezy

<Beezy> yes

<Jambalaya> that's great evie

<EvieNC> So he cuts whatever size I need. Lucky me.

<Beezy> wow....that is handy

<Jambalaya> but they aren't all that expensive if you have to buy them

<Jambalaya> you get a lot of use from them

<EvieNC> Another thing I like about UMs is that you can see where you are stamping them if using acrylic blocks.

<Jambalaya> yes, and you get spoiled with being able to see where you stamp

<Jambalaya> after that, you don't like wood mounts anymore<g>

<Jambalaya> i've yanked most of mine off the wood

<EvieNC> Only problem is that some designs you like don't come UM :-(

<pest> and, they are expensive!

<EvieNC> You got that right1

<Jambalaya> well, almost all of our vendors sell um

<pest> I was checking on a couple today. 2 stamps were 21.00 !!

<EvieNC> Even very small ones are expensive.

<Jambalaya> y'all have been shopping in the wrong places<g>

<EvieNC> Sometimes I use a 40% off coupon, but choices are limited.

<pest> just saw something I liked

<EvieNC> Jamba, good place to shop would be?

<deb> hi everyone

<EvieNC> Hi Deb

<Jambalaya> our vendor mall of course!!!

<deb> hi evie

<EvieNC> I knew you were gonna say that!

<deb> oh our vendor mall is awesome for unmounted rubber

<deb> really!!

<Jambalaya> specifically this week, the convention booths

<deb> yeah - most of it is on sale

<pest> I'm buying from a couple of them this week for sure

<Jambalaya> good!

<Beezy> i was happy to find an instructional video in rubber chicken

<pest> on what subject?

<Jambalaya> rubber chicken has almost everything

<Beezy> I dont know why more artists and companies dont make instructional videos

<Beezy> altered book arts Tim.... somthin??

<Jambalaya> i think cuz they are rather expensive beezy

<Beezy> i like being able to watch it then stop rewind ...etc

<Jambalaya> yes

<Jambalaya> that is convenient

<EvieNC> I enjoy them so much, watch over and over.

<Beezy> my favorite way is live classes, but there isnt anything closer then 75 miles from me

<Jambalaya> well, and right here on your puter<g>

<EvieNC> I have the Tim Holtz DVD and MaryJo M. DVD.

<Jambalaya> for free!

<pest> I would have to double that mileage here

<deb> the best classes are HERE

<deb> : )

<Beezy> yes, but i personally would do much better with at least a list of supplies several weeks in advance

<Beezy> wow pest....isnt it sad

<pest> very

<Jambalaya> well you know beezy, you might enjoy the class logs

<pest> I've learned everything over the computer

<Jambalaya> they are always there for reference

<Beezy> then I could go through the motions during web class , then do the project right afterwards

<deb> and you can do them at your leisure

<Beezy> thats true, i forgot there is a log

<pest> can you see examples?

<deb> in your own hojme

<deb> or with a friend

<Jambalaya> yes, the samples are placed in line on the logs

<Jambalaya> everyone say thank you cak

<pest> ty cak

<deb> ty cak

<EvieNC> TY cak

<pest> does cak do the newletter?

<Beezy> thankyou cak

<deb> she does the logs

<Jambalaya> cak does the logs

<EvieNC> I used to log these sessions for myself.

<deb> faithfully every week

<deb> for as long as I can remember

<Beezy> so are they listed as class logs on the main page??

<deb> yes

<Jambalaya> there is a link to them on the schedule page

<Beezy> great!

<Jambalaya> http://www.cyberstampers.com/schedule.html

<Jambalaya> bookmark that page

<Jambalaya> everything you need , you can get to from that page

<Beezy> ty:)

<Jambalaya> ok, so back to um's

<deb> back to unmounteds

<Jambalaya> deb, what mounting system do you like best?

<deb> who uses them?

<deb> lol

<deb> well

<deb> I mostly use the halos

<deb> but

<deb> I've been contemplating that easy mount lately

<Jambalaya> oh we haven't covered halos, tell us about them?

<deb> ok

<deb> they are the hook and loop tape

<deb> and you put the hook or loop

<deb> I always forget which is which

<Jambalaya> hi patty

<deb> on the backside of the stamp

<Patty> Hi Jam

<EvieNC> deb, I use easy mount and love it.

<deb> and cut around your stamps

<deb> and then you put your loop on the acrylic block

<deb> they have little grooves

<deb> made in the acrylic blocks

<deb> just for the little strips of loop

<deb> so that when you slap that stamp on it

<deb> it will catch

<deb> and then you can see through the acrylic

<Jambalaya> evolving images sells the halo system

<deb> when you go to position your stamp

<deb> on the card

<pest> kinda like velcro?

<deb> it's pretty cool

<deb> yes

<deb> exactly

<deb> it comes in yards of loop/tape

<deb> like 6" wide

<deb> or something like that

<deb> in a roll anyway

<Jambalaya> and the halos act as cushion, right?

<deb> yes

<deb> the thickness of the halso

<deb> halos

<deb> acts as a cushion for your stamp

<deb> now

<deb> when you go to store your stamps

<deb> you can take strips of the loop

<deb> and put it on either clear

<deb> sheet protectors

<deb> with your images stamped on paper that is put inside

<deb> and then just slap your images on that

<deb> and then store them in 3 ring binders

<deb> OR

<deb> you can store t hem like I do

<deb> in vhs video boxes

<deb> with the stamp stamped on the outside of the box

<deb> in colorful inks

<deb> I have a whole s helf full

<Jambalaya> i went to the video boxes for storage too, but i keep my um's nekid

<pest> dinner has arrived....see ya in a bit! ty Jam!!

<deb> but

<deb> some of the tiny alphabets that I have

<Beezy> ok pest

<Jambalaya> hi shu-z-q

<deb> I store in large prescription bottles

<deb> they are great

<deb> I got that idea from janet

<deb> le janet that is

<Jambalaya> good idea, and you could use the bottle as a peg!

<deb> I also keep a few CD cases for um too

<deb> yes

<deb> I do keep a piece of loop on top of it

<EvieNC> Mine are in CD cases and DVD cases.

<Jambalaya> ya, i have my small sets of alphabets in cd cases

<Beezy> i like that ides

<Beezy> idea

<deb> I like to recycle stuff I have

<deb> less stuff going to trash

<Beezy> right on

<Jambalaya> trash?

<Jambalaya> what's trash?

<deb> : )

<deb> artists are the BEST for the environmnent

<Beezy> no doubt

<EvieNC> trash is that stuff you can't find a way to use on a card.

<Jambalaya> true!

<deb> lol

<Jambalaya> uhhhh, i don't have any trash then

<deb> now the other mounting system I'm looking into is the easy mount system

<deb> it's a gray foam looking stuff

<deb> that just clings to you cd/dvd cases

<deb> of course

<deb> I've been know to use nothing

<deb> just slap the um on the side of something and stamp away

<deb> without any cushion or anything

<deb> a small piece of 2 sided tape and I'm ready to roll

<deb> sometimes I've very um

<deb> what's the word

<deb> impatient

<deb> that's not the word I was looking for but it will work I guess

<deb> lol

<Jambalaya> i just slap some gluestick on it and go

<deb> yep

<Beezy> spontaneous

<deb> has everyone here tried unmounteds?

<deb> YES

<deb> that's it

<deb> thanks Beezy

<Jambalaya> if it's a large stamp, i use fun foam under the paper

<Beezy> :)

<deb> last night I stamped without even the tape

<deb> just with my hand

<deb> lol

<Beezy> i reaaly liked learning the idea of turning the stamp over and pressing the paper to it

<deb> I coudln't leave the puter to go find stuff

<deb> yes I thought that was an intriguing idea

<Beezy> id never though of that

<deb> me either

<Jambalaya> have you tried it yet beezy?

<deb> IDID

<deb> IDIDI

<Beezy> yes

<deb> it was cool

<Jambalaya> good

<Beezy> first time it smeared then i did it again

<deb> I tried it on my class sample!!!!

<Jambalaya> cool

<Beezy> but the next morning i decided i like the smear and stamped a backround over it

<deb> and it was a large stamp so it really worked good

<deb> lol

<deb> true artist

<Beezy> i always like my work much better several days later

<EvieNC> Why is that? It has happened to me also.

<deb> hmm

<Beezy> it was always that way whn i used to write papers too

<Beezy> maybe our brains go into some kin of overdrive while furiousley working

<deb> anyone prefer mounted over unmounted???

<Beezy> i cant wait to get some unmounted

<EvieNC> deb, I think I get a better impression with mounted when it's a large background stamp.

<Beezy> i just gave a bunch of old mount ed to an afterschool kids program

<deb> really?

<Beezy> i couldnt bring myself to throw them in the trash

<deb> I haven't had any problem with my large backgrtound stamps

<deb> I have several mounteds I need to get rid of

<Beezy> when we had a stamp store in town we used to do stamp swaps which was a blast

<deb> just some images I don't want anymore

<Jambalaya> i don't part with stamps usually<g>

<deb> I gave a bunch to my niece

<deb> and some to my nephew

<EvieNC> I am selfish, find it hard to part with them.

<Beezy> im a gemini, so i tire of things prdty quickly

<Beezy> plus there are so many new designs coming out

<Jambalaya> ya as soon as you do, you'll find a need for them

<deb> well I've been trying to honestly look at stuff and say - hmm am I really going to use this

<Beezy> yes

<deb> I have 2 pounds of unmounteds sitting here I'm going to list on ebay probably

<Beezy> im doing that with everyhting in my house

<Beezy> i wonder if there is a way to do a swap online??

<Jambalaya> there are yahoo groups that trade stamps

<deb> we had an online garage sale here once

<Beezy> i need to get a scanner for christmas

<deb> we could probably do that again

<Beezy> that woukld be so much fun

<deb> you'd just have to scan your images

<Beezy> right

<deb> and then send them to whoever was doing the garage sale

<deb> I'll ask janet if we can do that again

<deb> sometime after convention

<Beezy> that is a good idea

<deb> it's fun

<deb> what do you do when you have a stamp that won't stamp well

<Beezy> step on it

<Jambalaya> lol

<Beezy> :)

<deb> lol

<deb> I've had a few that don't stamp well

<Jambalaya> well, you have to figure out why it won't stamp well

<Beezy> i had that happen with a set i bought several yr ago from qvc craft day

<deb> first I try to sand it

<EvieNC> deb, clean it, clean it, clean it...get all that silicone residue off of it.

<Jambalaya> sand it?????

<deb> yes

<Jambalaya> is you nutz>????

<deb> rough it up a bit

<EvieNC> be very careful sanding...

<deb> with a rough paper towel

<EvieNC> it's silicone deposits that cause the problem.

<Beezy> someone said lightly buffing with a nail thingy

<EvieNC> MaryJo says it's better to clean it before you ever use it than to clean it afterward. I like that.

<deb> good advice

<Jambalaya> yes, that's true

<Beezy> has anyone used unmounted onto glass?

<Jambalaya> and soap and water will not hurt a stamp

<deb> you mean stamped onglass?

<Beezy> yes

<deb> yes

<EvieNC> as on slides?

<Beezy> i want to stamp wine glasses for the holidays

<Jambalaya> yes beezy, you can stamp on glass

<deb> its great because you can go around the glass

<deb> but

<deb> stamping on glass is tricky

<deb> because it is SLICK

<Beezy> thats what ive heard

<deb> moves easily

<Jambalaya> and there is no ink that won't wash off

<Beezy> ahhhhh...

<Beezy> i went to a craft fair last year and a women had stamped a holly berry patter on glasses and was charging 5 dollsrs a glass

<Jambalaya> so glasses might not be the best thing to stamp on, unless you don't mind it being temporary

<Beezy> maybe she used some kind of paint??

<Jambalaya> ok, now there are glass paints that you could stamp with, and they'll need to be baked

<Beezy> aha

<EvieNC> I have to run now, got a meeting online.

<deb> ok

<Jambalaya> bye evie

<deb> bye evie

<EvieNC> Thanks so much, enjoyed it. BYE

<deb> wow - that was a quick hour

<Beezy> that must be what she did because she said she stamped the design and they were washable

<Jambalaya> wow the hour is up already

<Beezy> oh my whats up next??

<Jambalaya> NEXT EVENT IS IN : #wildfrog

<Beezy> see ya there

<deb> thanks for the info vicki

<Beezy> thanks for all the help and great ideas

* deb loves unmounteds
