<Janet> WELCOME, ALL YOU TEACHERS OF INKS!
<Lilo> hello
<Nancie> Hi
<Kristin> hi
<deb> hi janet
<Janet> I MAY HAVE ON THE CAPS, BUT I AM NOT THE TEACHER!!
<Janet> YOU ARE!!
<EvieNC> You just play one on TV?
<Janet> LOL!
<Janet> YEAH, I JUST PLAY ONE ON TV.
<Janet> WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE INK??
<deb> stazon
<Lilo> Brilliance
<deb> cause it seems to work on everything
<deb> is there anything else that will work on acrylics?
<deb> just as good as stazon?
<Janet> STAZ ON, BRILLANCE. ANYTHING ELSE?
<Kristin> vivd
<Janet> DOCUMENT INK
<Kristin> ancient page
<Janet> VIVID
<Janet> ANCIENT PAGE
<Kristin> I like dye inks :-)
<Kristin> chalks, of course
<Janet> ME TOO!
<Janet> OH YEAH, LOVE THOSE CHALKS
<EvieNC> encore
<Kristin> distress
<amy> brillance
<deb> do those have to be heat set on acrylics?
<Nancie> my favorite is always the one I just bought!
<amy> not sure
<Janet> LOL NANCIE, MINE TOO. OR ELSE THE ONES I'M FIXING TO BUY
<Kristin> micamagic - but I need to play more with those to be sure of my opinion
<Janet> ON ACRYLIC I HEAT SET ANYTHING, JUST IN CASE
<Kristin> And normal colorbox pigment
<amy> have you used those much?
<Janet> I LIKE THE OPALITES TOO
<Nancie> Just tried the micamagic on bookboard using silver and the yellow gold. Gorgeous!
<deb> ok - I was wondering for a class I'm working on
<Lilo> marvy too
<deb> I wanted the students to have options
<beezy> what do you recomend for stamping on fabric??
<Janet> ON THOSE ACRYLICS, DEB, THE CHALK INKS ARE NICELY TRANSPARENT. GIVE THEM A TINTED LOOK
<Judy> Adirondacks are my very favorite inks
<EvieNC> Did any of you get those sets of 30 inks & 15 markers in the compact caddy at ACMoore?
<Janet> IT DEPENDS, BEEZY. ANYTHING PERMANENT.
<deb> ok I'll try those too
<Lilo> not yet are they any good?
<amy> luv Adirondacks
<Janet> I DIDN'T BUT I WANTED THEM, EVIE. ARE THEY GOOD?
<Nancie> I like ZimPrints fabric paints for stamping on fabric
<beezy> amy on fabric too?
<Janet> I DO LOVE THOSE ADIRONDACK COLORS!
<EvieNC> They are good. They are permanent also. Only one I don't like is the black, which is not true black.
<Janet> LUMIERE PAINTS FOR STAMPING ON FABRICS, TOO
<amy> Janet, have you used their markers?
<EvieNC> and with a 40 or 50% coupon, they are a deal.
<Janet> NO, I WANT THOSE. IT'S ON MY "TO BUY" LIST
<amy> me too
<Lilo> my son is going to get them for me for Christmas
<Nancie> I like that the Adirondack inks come in so many different formats these days - embossing powder, stamp pads, alcohol inks, markers . . .
<Kristin> I'm not too crazy about the adirondack. Seems like all the brownish colours are red
<amy> good son
<Lilo> I was hoping they were good
<Lilo> he is a great son
<EvieNC> So far I like them except the black.
<Janet> I'M AFRAID I'VE ALREADY SHOT MY CHRISTMAS PRESENT. I DEMANDED GOING TO BOOKWORKS IN LOUISIANA FOR MY CHRISTMAS PRESENT.<G>
<deb> that would be cool
<Janet> I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND A BLACK I LIKE BETTER THAN THE DOCUMENT INK FROM EVOLVING IMAGES.
<Janet> IT'S STILL THE BLACKEST BLACK TO ME
<EvieNC> I guess I use StazOn more than any other black.
<beezy> thats a great gift janet
<EvieNC> No worry about whether it will work, and it never smears.
<Lilo> Evo will be glad to hear that janet
<Janet> LOL
<Kristin> but it does not dry as well as StazOn on acetat and things like that?
<Janet> I REALLY TRY TO SET THINGS ASIDE FOR 24 HOURS OR SO
<Kristin> I have the document ink, but it never dries. Unless I heat set
<Janet> I AM NOT PATIENT BY NATURE
<Janet> MINE DRIES, KRISTIN. MAYBE YOU HAVE A BUM PAD. WRITE EVOLVING IMAGES AND ASK THEM ABOUT IT.
<Janet> ANYWAY, SO MANY INKS. I LOVE THEM ALL.
<Janet> IT REALLY DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU'RE DOING, DOESN'T IT?
<EvieNC> I like ENCORE because you can get such a nice mettalic without embossing.
<Janet> SO LET'S NARROW THIS DOWN A BIT... WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE INK WHEN YOU WANT TO EMBOSS IT?
<Nancie> Has anyone played with the Distress Inks? Just got some. Haven't played yet . . .
<EvieNC> metallic, that is
<Janet> LOVE THE DISTRESS INKS, BUT THOSE REALLY ARE A SPECIALTY INK, NOT GOOD FOR EVERYTHING!
<Nancie> True
<Janet> WHEN I WANT TO EMBOSS, I'M STILL A COLORBOX GAL
<EvieNC> Colorbox is hard to beat.
<Nancie> You know, I don't emboss as much as I used too. I do like ColorBox's pigment inks though.
<Janet> FOR PIGMENT INKS, YEAH. BUT I HAVEN'T TRIED OTHER PIGMENT INKS MUCH. WHAT ARE SOME OTHER KINDS YOU ALL LIKE?
<beezy> what is the walnut spray ink ive heard about??
<Janet> OOOO THIS IS COOL STUFF, BEEZY!
<amy> I like VersaFine for any word type stamps
<Janet> I'VE NEVER TRIED THE VERSAFINE. TELL ME ABOUT IT?
<EvieNC> Good for detail.
<amy> really fine detail for words
<amy> i won't use anything else
<Janet> OOOO OR I BET PHOTO STYLE STAMPS, TOO
<Nancie> ColorBox's MicaMagic is beautiful. For metallics, the Pearl-Ex pads are very cool too
<Kristin> But it needs to be embossed, right? I have it too, but have not played much with it
<Janet> I DO LOVE METALLICS. I'M PART CROW, I GOTTA BE
<Nancie> (The Pearl-Ex pads are "permanent on every surface"
<Janet> HOWDY LJOY!
<Janet> ARE THEY PART ALCOHOL?
<ljoy> Hi everyone!
<Janet> (I LOVE HOW ALCOHOL INKS SMELL)
<beezy> yes nancy and they are hard to tell the color
<Sharo> you must have an odor fetish
<Janet> I DO!
<Janet> I LOVE TO SNIFF STUFF.
<beezy> i went to a class last month using them and folks were getting frustrated
<Janet> TELL ABOUT THAT, BEEZY?
<beezy> hey that could be a million dollar idea for someone
<Tarot_afk> i am using the new mica inks
<Tarot_afk> i love them
<beezy> scented inks
<ljoy> Think someone already tried that ...
<Sharo> I have some of those and dont use them
<Janet> I HAD SOME OF THE SCENTED INKS ONCE. BUT THE SCENT DIDN'T STAY AROUND THAT LONG.
<Tarot_afk> they not only do make scented inks, they also make scents to add to any pad or reinker now
<beezy> well, im still new to this, but they were marked on the back with the color, but the pads were all clear
<EvieNC> Janet sniffed the scented pad too much, took all the scent out?
<Janet> LOL
<Tarot_afk> I just ass alcohol and a drop of organic oils and get fine scents
<Nancie> One company that doesn't get a lot of attention is Stewart Superior. They have a fairly new "Hybrid Inkpad" out for all surfaces that's very nice
<beezy> the teacher who was supposed to teach the class had an emergency so another gal filled in last minute
<Tarot_afk> aadd, anot ass
<Janet> WHAT'S IN THE HYBRID INK PAD, NANCIE?
<ljoy> I havea mental picture of all of us with ink on the end of our noses from sniffing!
<beezy> well janet...you may want to market that
<beezy> :)
<Nancie> The Hybrid is like a mix of pigment and dye inks, so it is supposed to be the best of both worlds.
<Janet> HI, JOY!
<joy> hi
<Janet> TALKING ABOUT HYBRID INKS NOW.
<Janet> THAT WAS SORT OF LIKE BRILLIANCE WAS MARKETED, WASN'T IT?
<Lilo> I saw them demoed this past weekend at the convention, it started with a P \
<Nancie> yep. That is the hot thing in inkpads these days I think - blending ink types to create special uses or all purpose pads
<Tarot_afk> does anyone besides me make their own inks?
<Janet> i REALLY LIKE THE LIQUID CHALK INK PADS, THEY'RE PERMANENT WHEN HEAT SET, BUT REALLY JUICY.
<Judy> so many ink pads - so little money
<Janet> NO! TELL ABOUT MAKING YOUR OWN INK!
<Lilo> they dry to fast on paper to emboss, but they stay wet enough on plastic to emboss
<Kristin> Palette hybrid inkpad!
<Lilo> hi sandy
<joy> no but I sure would like to know how to make Claro extender for alcohol inks
<Tarot_afk> i started with dry clothing dye
<Lilo> Kristin, that is the one
<beezy> tarot how do you concoct your own?
<sandyh> hi lilo
<Tarot_afk> added glycerin and H2O
<Kristin> I have somerset here, and saw it there
<Tarot_afk> and put it into bottles and shook it
<Tarot_afk> but got frustrated with that
<sandyh> is the cloaro extender the same as the blender tim holtz uses?
<Kristin> It's a low CARB inkpad?? Is that a joke?
<Tarot_afk> now I use all kinds of tempura paint powders
<Tarot_afk> and aslo the tints for papermakers
<Nancie> Do you make your own because it is less expensive or because you want to do custom colors?
<Janet> sANDY, I'VE BEEN WONDERING THAT, TOO. WHAT EXACTLY IS THE CLARO EXTENDER?
<Tarot_afk> I make ink cause I like to make stuff
<beezy> good reason
<Tarot_afk> and aslo, I can always find what I want since I made it
<EvieNC> How long will the homemade ink last without any preservative? Will it get moldy?
<Tarot_afk> there is nothing worse than needing an ink and you can't find it
<Tarot_afk> both glycerin and alcohol are preservatives
<Lilo> I saw on one of the sites that you can make your own Alcohol inks by mixing half Rit dye and half rubbing alcohol.
<Nancie> cool
<Tarot_afk> if they dry out you just reconstitute
<beezy> cool
<Janet> VERY COOL, ALCOHOL INKS ARE SPENDY
<Tarot_afk> lilo, that's where I began
<BC-away> tm, pm
<Tarot_afk> also, I almost never buy pads anymore
<Lilo> sorry Tarot, I went to get pizza, must have missed that one
<joy> so can you recap your steps for inks?
<ljoy> Can you recreate a color consistently?
<Tarot_afk> yes
<Tarot_afk> i can recreate consistantly
<Tarot_afk> ok
<Tarot_afk> easiest ink is tempura paint powder
<Tarot_afk> add alcohol
<Tarot_afk> or glycerin til you get the consistancy you want
<Tarot_afk> i put mine into plastic containers
<Tarot_afk> either bottles
<Sharo> do you put this on a blank pad?
<EvieNC> If you use glycering, then can you emboss with this ink?
<Tarot_afk> or the 4 inche square ones with a tight top
<EvieNC> glycerin
<Tarot_afk> if you use glycerine you can emboss
<EvieNC> thanks
<Tarot_afk> or
<Janet> i STILL USE THE GLYCERIN TRICK WITH DYE INKS IF I WANT TO EMBOSS.
<Tarot_afk> you can also mix it the]n with those glyceroine inks that come in tiny jars
<EvieNC> Janet, how is that?
<joy> thanks
<Janet> INK UP THE STAMP HOWEVER YOU WERE GOING TO, THEN INK OVER THAT WITH A GLYCERIN PAD, LIKE A TOP BOSS, OR EVEN A VERSAMARK.
<Janet> THEN IT STAYS WET LONG ENOUGH TO EMBOSS IT
<EvieNC> TY
<sandyh> i looked up "claro extender". it is used with pinata inks, so probably the same as tim's blender.
<Janet> VERY COOL FOR WHEN YOU USE THE MARKERS TO COLOR YOUR STAMP AND THEN WANT TO EMBOSS THAT
<Tarot_afk> janet, you can also use just plain glycerine
<beezy> Tim was on carol duvall today
<EvieNC> So you could have multi-color embossing!
<Janet> YEAH, BUT I'M LAZY AND LIKE TO BUY FROM OUR VENDORS :)
<Tarot_afk> you don't need to spend a huge amount on stamp pads
<Janet> BUT I LUV INK PADS!!
<Janet> ONE OF EVERY COLOR!
<EvieNC> I didn't see CD today, did he do the scrapbook niche thing?
<Janet> I'M AN INK PAD SLUT
<joy> great idea tarot
<beezy> yes
<Tarot_afk> i tend to buy reinkers and use the colorbox stylus
<beezy> it was sooo neat!
<EvieNC> I have Tim's DVD...very good.
<beezy> and veratile becasue it incorporates everything
<beezy> versatile
<Lilo> Sandy took a class with him a couple of weeks ago
<Janet> WELL, TELL ABOUT IT, BEEZY!!
<Janet> AND SANDY! TELL ABOUT THE CLASS.
<Tarot_afk> I like the idea of making your AB from a sheet of foam
<Nancie> The one I liked was using alcohol inks on metal tape and then wiping some away with the blender
<Janet> HOLD OUT THOSE BRAINS FOR US TO PICK!
<sandyh> he is a very cool guy!
<Janet> OH COOL, NANCIE
<Tarot_afk> talk about it beezy
<beezy> i am not the best person to give the synopisis of a step by step project
<beezy> ill give it my best
<Tarot_afk> go on you can do it
<Janet> WELL, WE NEED TO BUY THE DVD. BUT GIVE US AN IDEA :)
<beezy> he used foam cboard..
<beezy> a thin piece
<beezy> then a metal ruler with o in the middle that counts out both directions
<Sharo> loved that ruler wonder where we can get one
<beezy> and marked it the specific meansurements
<Judy> scrapbooking store?
<beezy> then the same with the piece of scrap decorative , backround paper..
<beezy> he said an art store for the ruler
<Judy> ty
<Sharo> will start there then
<sparkle> I think phil had software for one of those centering rules for a while on his website
<beezy> i was surpised too see him use a glue stick as an adhesive...
<sparkle> someone should ask him
<Janet> YEAH, i THINK HE DID. Y'ALL CHECK www.redcastle.com LATER FOR WHAT ALL SOFTWARE HE'S GOT ON THERE
<beezy> so he made the cuts, then folded the baper back
<Tarot_afk> http://www.red-castle.com/software/fw/centeringruler.htm
<beezy> then he used his walnut ink stuff (name???)
<Sharo> ty
<Nancie> Distress Ink?
<Tarot_afk> that will work
<beezy> and filled the niches with pictures and all kind of cool embellishments..
<Janet> WOW THAT SOUNDS COOL
<beezy> i think rubbercheicken sells his line of products
<EvieNC> http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/cr_scrapbooking/article/0,,HGTV_3316_2932480,00.html
<beezy> he even found tiny message in a bottle things
<beezy> and filled one with his ink
<Judy> Thieving Magpie has the bottles
<sandyh> was that the one with the toy train track in it?
<beezy> thankyou evie
<EvieNC> Thought it might help.
<Janet> SO DOES ENCHANTED INK ON THE DOO DADS PAGE!
<Janet> (ON SALE THIS WEEK)
<beezy> beezy wipes sweat from her brow
<Judy> buy 2, get one free
<EvieNC> Good job, Beezy
<Janet> BEEZY, YOU DID GREAT!
<beezy> :)
<beezy> he seems like such a nice man
<EvieNC> You should buy the DVD if you can. It's very good.
<Janet> I THINK I HAVE TO NOW :)
<Janet> I KNOW THE RUBBER CHICKEN HAS IT
<beezy> they do
<Tarot_afk> who sells the DVD here amongst our vendors?
<Tarot_afk> ahh
<Janet> RUBBER CHICKEN.
<beezy> RUBBER CHICKEN
<Tarot_afk> rubber chicken
<Nancie> Just poking around on Rubber Chickens website & saw they have Krylon leafing pens in two new colors too
<EvieNC> He also demos distress inks, alcohol inks, the scrapbook niche, metal embossing, faux batik, watercolor stamping
<Janet> http://www.cyberstampers.com/convention/rubberchicken
<Janet> ANYTIME YOU'RE LOOKING FOR ANYTHING AND CAN'T FIND IT, CHECK THE RUBBER CHICKEN, SHE'S GOT SO MUCH STUFF SHE PROBABLY HAS IT!
<Nancie> I think I remember that he also did a tiny book project too
<Tarot_afk> and she will order for you if she doesn't have it
<beezy> is she in Maryland?
<EvieNC> Yes, Nancie, I forgot about the little book.
<Janet> SHE IS!
<Tarot_afk> inks
<Janet> I'VE BEEN THERE!
<Janet> WHAT A LOT OF COOL STUFF IN SUCH A SMALL SPACE!
<beezy> igrew up my first nine yrs real close to her store
<beezy> of course it want there then
<Tarot_afk> what inks do you use on vellum?
<joy> alcohol
<Janet> I LIKE CHALK INKS ON VELLUM
<Janet> IT MATCHES THE TRANSLUCENCY
<sandyh> the new adirondak pigment pens work great on vellum.
<Janet> OH AND ALCOHOL INKS TOO! YES!
<Janet> (BRB, NEED YET ANOTHER DRINK)
<sandyh> they are workable when wet and permanent when dry and without embossing.
<EvieNC> Would this be too far off topic if I asked if any of you use Twinkling H20s? and how?
<Lilo> how long does it take them to dry sandy?
<sandyh> lilo took a class
<joy> ohhh twinkling H2Os yummm
<sandyh> fast, lilo
<Lilo> They are very nice
<beezy> i havent seen those
<EvieNC> I have seen beautiful things done with them but don't know how it was done.
<sparkle> I've got 'em..and I've even used them <gasp>
<EvieNC> Tell, sparkle
<beezy> lol
<sparkle> just use them like watercolors...with a paintbrush or water brush
<joy> as they dry they sparkle
<sparkle> lol..don't laugh beezy, you have no idea how much stuff is in our crap room that has never been used.
<EvieNC> At stamp show, I got a quick glimpse of gal putting them direct on the rubber.
<EvieNC> but didn't see the whole demo.
<Lilo> just make sure that when you buy them you stick to which ever package you start with or you will get duplicates, ie 6pk 12pk 24pk
<sparkle> uh, craft room.
<beezy> i laugh because i have a tendeny to the same thing
<sparkle> I only used 'em because someone said "I'll bet you don't use these before the convention next year"
<sparkle> so I had to use 'em.
<Tarot_afk> and of course, you are now gonna play with stuff or give it away
<Tarot_afk> or sell it, right?
<sandyh> have them....haven't used them (yet!)
<Judy> sure, Isis
<Lilo> you can spritz the little pot and then once it is creamy you paint the rubber stamp and then put on water color paper, they are beautiful
<EvieNC> I have not used mine, been afraid of them I guess.
<Tarot_afk> as we all decided to do during the Playtime class?
<beezy> cool
<joy> oh, don't be afraid they will be your new favorite til the next one
<Tarot_afk> evie, go get up and put them into one of your daily boxes
<EvieNC> First I have to make a daily box.
<Tarot_afk> nope
<beezy> what is the dily box?
<Tarot_afk> usea sack instead
<beezy> daily
<sandyh> if you make it creamy, will it just dry up into a cake again?
<EvieNC> right now there isn't even room on my desk for another box!
<Tarot_afk> on sunday night, you take 7 containers
<Tarot_afk> and fill with stuff you haven't used
<sparkle> umm, no. Once it's all put away, it's safe <G>
<joy> yup, they dry again
<Tarot_afk> you have 20 minutes to do that
<EvieNC> Tarot, what a great idea.
<Lilo> yes it will sandy
<sandyh> ty
<beezy> fab idea!!
<Tarot_afk> each day you play with what is in one of the boxes
<Janet> Y'ALL LIKE THE SPARKLING H2O PAINTS?
<EvieNC> I did hear someone say not to put lids back on them while they are wet or they will get moldy.
<Tarot_afk> on sunday put stuff back and get new stuff
<beezy> ewww
<sparkle> yes, let them dry before you re-cap them Evie.
<EvieNC> Tarot, I hope to try that.
<sandyh> good tip
<Lilo> you don't make them that wet
<sparkle> I love 'em Janet...'cause they're sparkly.
<Tarot_afk> umm
<Janet> I HAD SOME AND GAVE THEM AWAY.
<Tarot_afk> no hoping
<Tarot_afk> either ya do it
<EvieNC> why, janet?
<beezy> i wish we alled lived closer
<sparkle> they're way better on shrink than the mica pads or the pearl ex pads.
<sparkle> they don't lose their color and shimmer
<Janet> LOL I STICK MICA POWDER INTO MY WATERCOLORS CUZ IT'S SPARKLY
<Tarot_afk> or you will get an email from me saying....?????? Hoping still?
<Tarot_afk> LOL
<beezy> we could start a stamp commune
<Janet> I DON'T KNOW, I THINK IT WAS INCONVENIENT FOR ME TO HAVE COLORS IN POTS LIKE THAT.
<sparkle> but the pots are CUTE
<Janet> THEY ARE LOVELY
<Janet> BUT I DIDN'T USE THEM
<joy> i keep them all together in a plastic see through
<EvieNC> They make neat little trays to keep them in and the trays are stackable.
<Janet> AND SOMEONE WAS REALLY WANTING SOME SO I SENT 'EM TO HER
<cherub78> stamp commune...hehe...worship the muse idol...lol
<Janet> SO NOW YOU TELL ME<G>
<EvieNC> Janet is nice.
<sparkle> well, then they're in a good place...and not around for Pepper to eat <G>
<Janet> HEYA PAT!
<Janet> LOL PEPPER HAS ONLY EATEN TWO STAMPS!
<pmstamper> hey there, sorry I'm late
<Janet> THREE PAINTBRUSHES
<beezy> hi pm
<Janet> ABOUT FIVE OUNCES OF POLYMER CLAY (NOT AT THE SAME TIME)
<Tarot_afk> inks
<Janet> INKS, NO INKS, HE JUST BIT INTO A REINKER
<deb> lol
<Janet> BUT I SAVED IT
<Tarot_afk> anyone use the Ranger Pefecgt Ink Refresher?
<sparkle> lol
<Janet> YES, I LIKE THAT STUFF
<EvieNC> My cat ate something today while I was out. Don't know what it was but looked like string when she got rid of it.
<EvieNC> I do, Taro.
<EvieNC> Works good on inkpads and markers
<Janet> MY CAT USED TO STEAL DENTAL FLOSS OUT OF THE TRASH
<sparkle> Frosty opened a drawer of wool fibers and made a collage on the floor
<sparkle> beautiful colors
<EvieNC> Why do they eat such things? yikes
<Janet> UHH WAS THAT PRE-WHORF OR POST-WHORF?
<sparkle> because they're there.
<sparkle> lol..she didn't eat 'em, just played with them.
<Lilo> I'll be back in a few minutes
<Janet> WOW. PEPPER WOULDA ATE THEM.
<beezy> sparkle did you take a picture??
<Janet> AND THE COLLAGE WOULDA BEEN POST-WHORF.
<sparkle> ewww
<Janet> WHERE ARE WE GOING NEXT?
<sandyh> have any of you used the black perfect medium? i have some but not sure what to do with it.
<sparkle> #craftclass for hardware
<Janet> LOOKS LIKE #craftclass
