<Jambalaya> hiya cak

<cak> hiya

<BlackCats> hi cak

<Jambalaya> cak, we kinda started already<g>

<BlackCats> we did?!

<Jambalaya> but lets start now for real

<cak> uh oh

<Jambalaya> nah, just talking about finding stuff and organizing

<BlackCats> thought we were just chatting, lol

<BlackCats> ah

<cak> (sometimes the before and after chat is rather illuminating)

<BlackCats> yes

<BlackCats> scout, can you set up a little table somewhere in your dining room as your stamping area?

<BlackCats> hi joy

<joy> hi

<scout> not in this little house.

<Jambalaya> i honestly believe that at some point, i'll have everything where i can either see it, or it's labeled well enough to be able to put my hands right on it

<BlackCats> ah

<Jambalaya> hi joy

<BlackCats> labeling is gonna be key for me

<Jambalaya> yes!

<BlackCats> these two craftsmen toolboxes are great but I still end up opening a lot of drawers looking for what I want

<Jambalaya> the stuff i have labeled so far, has been very helpful

<cak> you know this ties in with the stamping on the cheap too--you don't buy duplicates!

<scout> Also, a little table wouldn't work. I need a huge one, surrounded by iris carts, etc.

<Jambalaya> true cak

<BlackCats> when I got the second toolbox I didn't have time to fiddle around with it and just had to stuff things into it

<Jambalaya> ya thats never good<g>

<BlackCats> sometime I need to empty both out, sort, organize, label, and put stuff back in

<Jambalaya> but at least it's all together

<BlackCats> true

<cak> and you know it all fits in there (my problem)

<Jambalaya> i need more of those divided plastic boxes next time they go on sale<g>

<BlackCats> everything is in one of 32 drawers, just a matter of hunting a bit

<cak> (Jamba went bead shopping!)

<BlackCats> yeah, I need some of those too jam

<cak> lol BC, just 32?

<Jambalaya> ya but i'm not planning on using those boxes for beads

<BlackCats> finding my beads, charms, etc is the hardest part

<BlackCats> lol, cak

<scout> It's funny, for 20 years everyone kept telling me I was such an organized Girl Scout leader. Then when I quit, my mind went to mush.

<BlackCats> some are pretty big drawers

<Jambalaya> i need beads in pourable containers

<Jambalaya> lol, scout

<cak> as long as you're enjoying it, it doesn't matter scout!

<BlackCats> that's kinda a different kind of organizing tho scout

<Jambalaya> yep

<scout> Lots of stuff all over tho, same as with stamping

<Stampverb> Scout, think of it as discovering your Inner Sloth

<BlackCats> organizing craft stuff is such an ongoing process since you're always get new stuff and using stuff up

<BlackCats> get = getting

<Jambalaya> using stuff up????

<BlackCats> lol

<scout> ah ha, that's the answer! USING STUFF UP! are we supposed to do that?

<BlackCats> yeah, it does occasionally happen jam

<Jambalaya> our biggest problem is hoarding the stuff!!!

<BlackCats> true

<BlackCats> lately I've been using some of my hoarded beads and charms

<scout> And everyday the mail brings you wonderful colors in paper, etc. to save to use for cards.

<BlackCats> it't not like I'll never find anything like that ever again <G>

<Jambalaya> see thats the key right there

<Jambalaya> there's always more to buy, so using up is good

<BlackCats> thos some of my favorite stuff I'm putting into my altered books I'm sending around in round robins

<Jambalaya> so you can justify buying more

<Stampverb> today I threw out very very old ink pads -- in METAL containers--need I mention they were DRY? lol

<cak> lol

<BlackCats> lol

<BlackCats> yeah, those were past using

<Stampverb> from All Night Media, Bizzaro....

<Jambalaya> but looking around this room right now, there's no newbies in here, so i can say, if we never bought another thing, we'd still have enough stuff to use for about a hundred years<g>

<cak> (but metal!! I'm a sucker for a metal container)

<cak> lol

<BlackCats> right jam

<BlackCats> at least

<cak> if we share it with 2 community centers maybe 50 years

<cak> Hi MC

<Jambalaya> hi mom

<BlackCats> I hate to admit it but I have stamps that have never been inked

<BlackCats> hi mc

<MomCat> Hi!

<Jambalaya> me too me too

<Stampverb> my pre-moving blitz has resulted in a nice box of stuff headed for the community ctr

<MomCat> Me too

<BlackCats> and now I have a celery stubb in the frige waiting to become a rose stamp, lol

<MomCat> lol

<Jambalaya> rofl

<scout> I don't even have to say "me too"

<BlackCats> lol

<BlackCats> great, verb

<Stampverb> hi MomCat

<BlackCats> passing things on gives you a nice feeling too

<scout> I have some really pretty teeshirts done with the celery roses, Black Cats

<MomCat> Hi, Verbie

<Stampverb> how did your class go today? I am so mad I forgot all aboput it

<BlackCats> puts out positive energy into the universe

<MomCat> Class went well, Jam taught it

<BlackCats> ooooh, good idea, scout

<MomCat> and sent them away with homework!

<cak> passing things along also clears your physical space too. Stamping becomes a lot more enjoyable

<Stampverb> now I need to find someplace to rehome 20 years of the Harvard Business Review!

<BlackCats> wow Jam, you got an early start today

<scout> Od course, now decorated t shirts seem to be passe"

<BlackCats> local library verb?

<MomCat> Jam has been saying she is trying to keep a daytime schedule.

<Stampverb> alas, they don't want em, BC, nor do local colleges

<cak> or local recyceling center

<BlackCats> ah

<Jambalaya> are those in book form or magazine form verb?

<Stampverb> a couple fo books but mainly the mags

<Jambalaya> hi pat

<BlackCats> hi pat

<MomCat> Hi!

<joy> hi Pat

<Jambalaya> the books would be cool for altered books

<Stampverb> funny thing is, HBS sells the reprints of some of those old articles to this day!

<pmstamper> Hi there, my friend Judy is here with me tonight too.

<BlackCats> have you tried a used book store?

<MomCat> Hi, Pat and Judy

<joy> hi Judy

<Stampverb> oooh no, Jam--don't give me a reason to keep all my business books!

<BlackCats> hi judy!

<Jambalaya> hiya judy, welcome!

<BlackCats> welcome!

<MomCat> lol

<Stampverb> yep, used book store is goona gets some books, but won't do magazines

<BlackCats> ah

<Stampverb> goona, gonna, whatever

<cak> using pages for origami can be rather intriguing

<BlackCats> judy, tonight is a discussion class

<MomCat> When are you moving, Verbie?

<cak> especially ones that have math formulas on them or pictures

<Stampverb> I am holding on to some Ornament and Metalsmith mags from the past--just too luscious to give up yet

<BlackCats> we're sorta straying from the main topic but are discussing organization and what to do with stuff you want to rehome

<Jambalaya> ya we're supposed to be talking about saving money on stamping, but we're a bunch of hoarders<g>

<Judy> I'll just listen, thanks

<Stampverb> I dunno exactly MomCat

<BlackCats> good, just jump in whenever you feel like it

<MomCat> Verbie, I'll pay the postage for the one with the hatching snakes when you are ready to give it up.

<Jambalaya> ya, we don't bite, i promise

<joy> just watch out for Jam and her crawfish

<MomCat> I hoard as good as anybody

<BlackCats> lately one thing I've been doing that kinda saves money a bit...

<Stampverb> uh oh, remind me MomCat -- talk about mush-brain!

<Jambalaya> recycling is one way to save money

<MomCat> but I missed the most virulent form of Stampers' Acquisition Disease

<BlackCats> instead of going out and buying all different colors of paper

<Jambalaya> old magazine pages can make cool backgrounds

<MomCat> so my hoard is smaller.

<BlackCats> I've been using direct to paper and stippling inks to tint white cardstock

<cak> I love your stamping on soda cans Jamba

<MomCat> I do the same, BlackCats

<Stampverb> good one BC

<Jambalaya> ya i love soft drink cans

<Judy> Decorative calender pages make good backgrounds too.

<BlackCats> yes, that's a good source of material for embellishments

<BlackCats> yes, they do

<Jambalaya> i buy white cardstock at sams by the ream, and use that more than anything else

<scout> Does Sam's have it cheaper than Kelly's?

<BlackCats> I just bought a ream today at a stamp store that is having a going-out-of-business sale

<Jambalaya> idunno, we don't have kelly's here

<Jambalaya> wb pat

<pmstamper> I didn't know sam's had cardstock

<joy> oh yeah

<scout> Costco doesn't

<BlackCats> yep, in office supply area

<Jambalaya> well, they don't always have it

<pmstamper> we are sharing the keyboard, so I am here the whole time. lol

<MomCat> Most of the Office stores have white cs

<Jambalaya> but when they do, it's about 5 bucks for a ream

<Jambalaya> hi lynn

<BlackCats> hi lynn

<Lynn> hi all

<pmstamper> gee, I'll have to check for that--it is a good deal

<Jambalaya> yep

<pmstamper> hi lynn

<Lynn> good deal?

<BlackCats> lynn, we're talking about ways to save money on stamping

<Jambalaya> reams of white cardstock at sams

<Lynn> sounds good

<MomCat> When i was very broke I bought a piece of black glossy gift wrap and glued it to white cardstock.

<scout> Sam's in San Diego is quite aways cross town from us, so we don't belong.

<BlackCats> WalMart also has reams of cs

<Jambalaya> ya but it's still cheaper at sams

<MomCat> Walmart is 20 miles away through some of the worse traffic in the nation

<BlackCats> true, but the local (sorta) sam's is 1 hr away so you'd waste your savings in gas

<Jambalaya> and it's a good quality too

<scout> We have 3 Walmarts only 10 min away from us. About a month ago, the one in El Cajon had most of its scrapbooking paper on for 10 cents a sheet.

<Jambalaya> heh

<scout> Strangely enough, I checked the other two the next day, and it was regular price there.

<BlackCats> watching for sales is a good way to save on stamping

<Jambalaya> so scout now has 3 boxes stashed with scrapbook paper, huh?

<BlackCats> huh

<judy> hologram paper gift bags make really good backgrounds and accents

<MomCat> Los Angeles has punitive business taxes so I think Walmart is deliberately staying beyond the city limits.

<scout> And with three Michaels within 10 min, you can get different things at each one.

<BlackCats> yes, watch for deep discounts after holidays on paper gift stuff

<cak> Oh I love that hologram stuff

<cak> I've even saved a hologramed Kleenex box

<BlackCats> and dollar stores have good prices on that stuff too

<scout> And now a big new one has opened up about 20 min. away and everyone says it has all sorts of other stuff that the others don't have.

<judy> me too

<judy> lol

<Jambalaya> dollar tree had some huge gift bags in the hologram paper a while back

<joy> dollar store are great for stuff

<Jambalaya> uhhhhh, i don't think i've ever thrown away any kleenex box

<BlackCats> this is just a tad ridiculous but the brand of toothpaste we use has holographic stuff on the box

<cak> lol Jamva

<cak> ba

<scout> Trying to remember the name of the 99 cent that has the bright purple and turqoise shopping carts. Their big holographic baggs are 2 for .99

<BlackCats> I've been saving the small parts that don't have printing and when I get enough I'm thinking of using them as a tiled background

<Jambalaya> oohh yum bc

<joy> and they say packaging doesn't sell

<pmstamper> that sounds good BC

<BlackCats> should be an interesting experiment <G>

<cak> lol

<pmstamper> lol joy

<Jambalaya> oh and another source of cool backgrounds, look inside of all security envelopes

<scout> wonder about cutting the lasts weeks TV guide, with that holographic thing on the front could be made into a serendipity card.

<BlackCats> yes!

<BlackCats> lots of junk mail as usable stuff in it

* Jambalaya loves junk mail

<scout> I have trained hubbie to carefully open all business envys or to bring them to me first.

<BlackCats> and everyone knows about the junk cd's in junk mail

<BlackCats> and the faux credit cards

<Jambalaya> i've found whole sheets of vellum, all sorts of cool papers in junk mail

<MomCat> Yeah, I don't understand why people bitch about junk mail

<scout> I used several once to make a neat butterfly card. All shades of blue

<BlackCats> oooh, bet that was pretty

<Jambalaya> and if you like iris folding, you only need small strips of junk mail papers

<joy> or old mags

<BlackCats> and don't forget all the doodads at the hardware store (or your hubby's pockets, lol)

<Jambalaya> lol

<cak> or your hall closet (look on the floor)

<BlackCats> you can ink them or paint with lumieres, emboss

<BlackCats> yep

<Jambalaya> ya i've developed a fetish for washers<g>

<BlackCats> lol, me too

<joy> what's on teh hall closet floor?

<BlackCats> stuff out of hubby's pockets

<cak> mostly interesting hardware type stuff (in mine anyway)

<scout> balls of dust

<pmstamper> I mentioned I had lost some lumieres a few weeks ago--finally found them.

<Jambalaya> yay pat

<BlackCats> great!

<cak> yay! (another way of saving $$)

<BlackCats> yep

<cak> finding what you already have

<Jambalaya> how true

<BlackCats> instead of buying chipboard save the sheets of cardboard in the back of paper packages

<BlackCats> or other packages

<Jambalaya> and legal pads

<MomCat> I took a card to paper arts class yesterday like the one the teacher taught us last week

<cak> sometimes I think it helps your creativity to use something you already have instead of going out and buying something that's "perfect"

<BlackCats> true, cak

<MomCat> and one of the women wanted to know where I got the paper

<BlackCats> yeah?

<MomCat> you should have seen the delight on her face when I explained about thrifty swaps

<BlackCats> ah

<MomCat> it was some "scrapbook" paper somebody since

<BlackCats> thrifty swaps are a great way to rehome stuff

<MomCat> yes and to get stuff you will use but would not buy

<Jambalaya> a thrifty swap is something we do on the Big RS List

<BlackCats> right

<Jambalaya> the deal is to fill up a priority box with good "junk"

<cak> (like all the pink paper I get in variety packs)

<MomCat> cak, I usually get the perfect thing in mind and wait for it to show up

<MomCat> usually it's scene of some kind

<Jambalaya> it's a lot of fun to see what other folks think is junk<g>

<MomCat> This last one was especially good because the post office had just introduced "flat rate boxes."

<pmstamper> I used some Dove chocolates wrappers in a swap I just did. Y'all want to see?

<MomCat> I sent pounds of Fimo somebody had given me

<BlackCats> saving all your little scraps of pretty cardstocks is a great source for serendipity cards and scrap ideas

<Jambalaya> yes pat

<MomCat> and somebody sent me pounds of copper wire she nolonger wanted

<BlackCats> sure pat

<Jambalaya> i love candy wrapper art

<Lynn> yes

<MomCat> yes, please, Pat

<pmstamper> go to www.picturetrail.com and put in my name--pmstamper and look at the ATC book, at the bottom.

<pmstamper> I don't know the short cut there, sorry.

<Lynn> i'll have to pay attention to the next thrifty swap!

<Jambalaya> http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=7157439&uid=3481888

<Jambalaya> which atc has dove wrappers pat?

<pmstamper> Isn't life sweet, the further out of reach, and greatness in smallness.

<pmstamper> the swap was for weird quotes

<cak> I wondered where you'd found those quotes!

<cak> (I need to eat more chocolate)

<BlackCats> those are neat, pat

<Jambalaya> ohhhh the quotes are on the wrappers???

<joy> I like the quotes too

<pmstamper> thanks

<pmstamper> Yes, they are on the inside when you open them up, kind of like a fortune cookie

<BlackCats> yes, dove has some great quotes on the inside of the wrappers

<Jambalaya> oooo i need some dove choklits<g>

<BlackCats> lol, me too

<Jambalaya> i love all the hershey kiss wrappers too

<BlackCats> they've got some out now in very pretty raspberry and purple wrappers

<Jambalaya> especially the caramel kisses

<joy> I've gotta run early, nite all

<BlackCats> nite joy

<Jambalaya> it's like a bronze with purple zebra stripes

<cak> Night joy

<BlackCats> sweet dreams

<MomCat> nite, Joy, take care

<Jambalaya> nite joy

<BlackCats> lately I've been cutting out the cat images on the Sheba catfood foil labels

<BlackCats> I know they've gotta be usable somehow <G>

<cak> Janet uses candy wrappers on acrylic---kind of like the caught in crystal but with wrappers instead of tissue

<cak> that's such a classic image too BC

<BlackCats> yep

<BlackCats> and looks like my willy wonka

<Jambalaya> yep, the right foils can look like leafing under acetate

<Stampverb> brb

<Jambalaya> yamamama did some like that for enchanted ink

<Jambalaya> literally "painted" an image from behind with candy wrappers

<cak> cool

<BlackCats> don't forget that you can use the different fonts in your computer to generate sayings if you don't happen to have the right verse stamp

<pmstamper> wow

<MomCat> Our pet food doesn't come with cute lables :(

<BlackCats> lol, it's only on the real pricey kinds MC

<BlackCats> willy is elderly and getting very picky

<cak> yeah, you pay for the graphic designer

<pmstamper> lol

<BlackCats> yep

<MomCat> even when we had pets with pricey appetites the food came in plain brown wrappers

<pmstamper> nite y'all, have to go check out the sales at walmart--y'all reminded me I need cat food.

<BlackCats> lol

<cak> night pm

<Jambalaya> lol, nite pat

<Lynn> nite!

<BlackCats> nite pat & judy

<judy> nite everyone

<MomCat> well, except for the egg-eater - she got quail eggs from the Japanese market

<BlackCats> good to see you judy

<BlackCats> come back soon

<Jambalaya> bye judy, come back soon

<BlackCats> if you want to emboss a saying on vellum go into your printer settings and set for best and for transparancies

<cak> I bet you could "borrow" card layout from labels of some of the things we buy too

<BlackCats> then have your EP and a tidy tray right near the printer

<Jambalaya> and magazines too cak

<MomCat> Monica, does that work for both ink jet and laser printers?

<BlackCats> just remember to switch your printer settings back so you don't waste ink

<BlackCats> don't have a clue about laser printers

<MomCat> probably they wouldn't because they don't have wet ink

<Lynn> i'm thinkin the toner wouldn't hold the ep

<BlackCats> right

<Jambalaya> prolly not

<MomCat> I was more afraid of putting the vellum in the wrong machine and ruining the machine

<Jambalaya> ya vellum doesn't like heat

<BlackCats> but ink jet printers work fine with vellum

<MomCat> great thankd

<MomCat> s

<BlackCats> lately I've been doing that trick with vellum a lot

<Lynn> but you can heat it enough to melt the ep?

<Jambalaya> and you know, all these fancy inks out now, they want you to believe you need certain inks for embossing

<Jambalaya> but years ago when ep first came out, all we had were dump dye ink office stamp pads, and ep clung to it just fine

<faberinth> I know you are done

<MomCat> Hi, Fab and Isis!

<cak> Hiya ladies

<BlackCats> hi fab, isis

<Tarotmama> hi

<BlackCats> yes, lynn

<cak> you do have to be careful with the heatgun though with vellum, right?

<BlackCats> just have your ep, tidy tray and heat gun all set up to do the vellum just as soon as it comes out of the printer

<Jambalaya> hi fab and isis

<BlackCats> and if you're doing a long poem or something

<BlackCats> do it in sections

<BlackCats> eh, just keep the heat gun moving and it'll be fine

<BlackCats> usually if it warps any you can smooth that out when you adhere it to the card or AB

<Jambalaya> and keep heat as far off paper as you can, takes a little longer, but safer

<Stampverb> hi, fab and isis

<BlackCats> and detail EP works better for this too

<BlackCats> such as PearlLustres

<MomCat> I got several sheets of colored vellum in a paper clearance

<MomCat> Good night y'all
