<BlackCats> HI Y'ALL

<BlackCats> WELCOME

<Phyl> ty

<BlackCats> TONIGHT'S CLASS IS A REPEAT OF MY EMBELLISHMENT CLASS

<BlackCats> HERE'S THE PICTURES:

<BlackCats> http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=6274282&uid=1026244

<Jambalaya> i lve this class

<Jambalaya> love even

<BlackCats> TY

<Jambalaya> hi scout

<Jambalaya> http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=6274282&uid=1026244

<BlackCats> TONIGHT'S CLASS IS ABOUT MAKING YOUR OWN EMBELLISHMENTS FROM THINGS YOU MAY HAVE (OR YOUR HUSBAND MAY HAVE <G>) LYING AROUND THE HOUSE.

<Wanda> oh, ya, there was stuff in here I wanted to remember and then forgot :-)

<BlackCats> OH, GOOD, NOW YOU CAN GET A REPLAY

<Julie> oh ya, I'm with you Wanda

<BlackCats> HI PAT

<Jambalaya> hi pat

<Jambalaya> http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=6274282&uid=1026244

<pmstamper> hi there!

<BlackCats> THIS CLASS IS MEANT TO ENCOURAGE YOU TO LOOK AT THINGS WITH "NEW" EYES. YOU'LL BE SURPRISED AT WHAT YOU MIGHT SUDDENLY DISCOVER TO BE THE PERFECT ACCENT FOR A PROJECT.

<scout> hi, all

<BlackCats> HI SCOUT

<BlackCats> SOME OF THESE MAY BE USED ALONE BUT SEVERAL CAN BE USED IN LAYERS. IF THESE WILL BE DANGLIES YOU NEED TO DO BOTH SIDES.

<scout> BC, I have looked with"new eyes" on so many things, I can't walk thru my house anymore! vbg

<BlackCats> LOL

<Jambalaya> rofl

<BlackCats> I KNOW HOW THAT IS

<BlackCats> PRETTY SOON YOU'VE GOT A PROBLEM SORTING IT SO YOU CAN FIND THINGS AGAIN <g>

<BlackCats> SOME OF THESE MAY BE USED ALONE BUT SEVERAL CAN BE USED IN LAYERS. IF THESE WILL BE DANGLIES YOU NEED TO DO BOTH SIDES.

<Jennifer> I got a boot load of little wood chip quilt things I should paint them or something

<BlackCats> YOU CAN FIND METAL SHEETS IN HARDWARE STORES. ANOTHER OPTION WOULD BE A THICK COOKIE SHEET. THERE IS ALSO A HEAT RESISTANT CRAFT SHEET AVAILABLE, BUT REMEMBER TO PUT SOMETHING UNDER IT THAT IS ALSO HEAT SAFE IF YOUR WORKTABLE IS PLASTIC.

<BlackCats> STYLE STONE:

<BlackCats> COLOR STONE WITH ORCHID PASTEL FLUID CHALK INK. HEAT SET. TIP: I USED A MACHINIST'S SCRIBE (NEEDLE TOOL) TO HOLD THE STONE WHILE HEAT SETTING THE SIDES. THIS CAN BE FOUND IN STORES SUCH AS SEARS OR NORTHERN SUPPLY. (WARNING: THE STONES WILL GET VERY HOT.)

<Jambalaya> yes, and they hold heat a long time

<BlackCats> SINCE I DID THIS CLASS THE FIRST TIME I'VE LEARNED THAT THE TOOL IS ACTUALLY CALLED AN 'O' RING PULLER IN CASE ANY OF YOU WANT TO CHASE DOWN A SNAPON TOOL TRUCK <g>

<Jennifer> lol

<BlackCats> STAMP A PORTION OF RIBBON & HEART IMAGE USING DARK PEONY INK. HEAT SET. TRACE AND FILL IN IMAGE USING PURPLE GLAZE PEN. I DID 3 LAYERS TO GET A NICELY RAISED IMAGE.

<BlackCats> STAMP REVERSE SIDE WITH PORTION OF HEART MEDALLION AND COLOR WITH PURPLE GLAZE PENS. (PUT A PIECE OF WAX PAPER UNDERNEATH TO PROTECT THE 1ST SIDE.) SEAL WITH CLEAR ACRYLIC SEALER. THE GLAZE PEN INK BLED A LITTLE BIT WHEN I HIT IT WITH THE SEALER BUT IT GIVES IT A SOFTER LOOK AND BLENDS WELL WITH THE BACKGROUND COLOR. ALL SUPPLIES AND STAMPS USED ARE FROM STUBBY STAMPERS.

<BlackCats> QUESTIONS?

<Jambalaya> uhhh, no, but a note

<BlackCats> YES?

<Jambalaya> stubby isn't carrying the style stones right now

<Jennifer> someone send me glaze pens please I don't have any

<Phyl> no passing notes in class

<BlackCats> AH, TY

<BlackCats> BUT RUBBER CHICKEN MAY HAVE THEM

<Jennifer> I'll look ok.

<Jambalaya> yes

<BlackCats> NOT SURE BUT ALSO CHECK LOST ANGELES RUBBER WORKS

<BlackCats> I THINK SHE HAS SOME OF THEM

<Jennifer> I will look and see who has them

<BlackCats> OK

<BlackCats> PAPERBOARD TRIANGLE:

<BlackCats> COVERED ONE SIDE WITH A SLIGHTLY LARGER TRIANGE CUT FROM A SHEET OF RED LINER TAPE SO THAT THE EDGES ARE COVERED. COVER WITH DARK RED MAGIC GLITTER FROM EVOLVING IMAGES. SEAL WITH CLEAR ACRYLIC SEALER (MATTE). IF USING AS A DANGLY OR IF YOU WANT TO ADD FIBERS PUNCH A HOLE BEFORE YOU ADD THE GLITTER.

<Jennifer> ok somebody send me the redliner tape too I don't have that either

<BlackCats> YOU COULD MAKE THESE OUT OF ANY SHAPE YOU WISH

<BlackCats> I USED CARDBOARD FROM THE BACK OF A PACKAGE OF PAPER AND JUST CUT THE SHAPE WITH UTILITY SCISSORS

<BlackCats> WOODEN STAR:

<BlackCats> COLOR WITH CAMEO PINK METALLICS RUB-ONS. HEAT SET. DAUB GLUE ON TOP, ADD STAR CONFETTI AND THEN ADD LAVENDER MIST GLITTER (EVOLVING IMAGES).

<BlackCats> ANY QUESTIONS?

<Phyl> do the rub ons dry on clay?

<Jambalaya> how big is that star?

<BlackCats> STAR IS 1 1/2" ACROSS

<BlackCats> NOT SURE IF THE RUB ONS WOULD DRY ON CLAY OR NOT

<Jambalaya> no phyl

<Phyl> dang

<Jambalaya> rub n buffs will, but not the craft rub ons

<BlackCats> YEAH, I THOUGHT THEY PROLLY WOULDN'T

<Phyl> k thanks

<BlackCats> KEY:

<BlackCats> INK WITH VERSAMARK THEN USE GOLD CRYSTAL EMBOSSING POWDER (STUBBY STAMPERS). (WARNING: KEY WILL GET VERY HOT!) USE TWEEZERS OR OTHER TOOL TO HOLD KEY. DO HALF OF ONE SIDE, THEN THE OTHER HALF, THEN THE OTHER SIDE.

<BlackCats> THIS SAMPLE WAS DONE USING AN OLD DOOR KEY BUT LATELY I'VE BEEN SNATCHING UP STRAY LITTLE KEYS

<BlackCats> THOSE MAKE GREAT LIL CHARMS

<Jambalaya> just jhone has some great antique key charms too

<Julie> Style Stones are at Lost Angeles Rubber Works

<Jennifer> and http://www.cistamps.com/style_stones.htm

<scout> My mother left me a key ring with every key she ever had in her married life!

<BlackCats> ANOTHER WARNING: NOT ONLY WILL THESE GET VERY HOT, THEY WILL HOLD THE HEAT FOR A LONG TIME

<BlackCats> LOL, SO YOU'RE ALL SET TO MAKE BUNCHES OF BELLIES AND CHARMS

<BlackCats> YOU PROLLY HAVE SOME NEAT OLD KEYS ON THAT RING TOO

<cak> sounds like a book in the making--key for each story

<BlackCats> YEP, GOOD IDEA

<Julie> good idea cak!

<BlackCats> YOU COULD ALSO USE LUMIERES ON KEYS AND GLOSSY ACCENTS TO ADD MICROMINIBEADS

<Jambalaya> oh yum, good idea

<cak> (of course, knowing how key rings are you will have make up stories, but that's OK too)

<cak> that metallic in an unexpected color would be fabulous

<scout> yes, if I just knew the stories

<Phyl> I am good at making up stories

<BlackCats> THIS CLASS IS MEANT TO BE A STARTING POINT FOR YOU TO LOOK AROUND AND FIND BELLIES YOU CAN MAKE YOURSELF

<BlackCats> GAME CHIP:

<BlackCats> DRILL HOLE. COLOR EDGE WITH GOLD SHARPIE. DAUB SURFACE OF ONE SIDE WITH GLUE. ALLOW TO GET TACKY DRY THEN COVER WITH GOLD LEAF. PRESS TO GET GOOD CONTACT THEN SCRUB WITH STIFF BRUSH. TIP: DO NOT DO THIS WITH A FAN ON, A WINDOW OPEN, OR A CAT PASSING THROUGH. ALSO, DO THIS INTO A CONTAINER SO YOU CATCH ALL THE CRUMBS TO REUSE ON ANOTHER PROJECT.

<scout> Let me just put in a little ad for genealogy- before everyone dies in your older family, tape record their stories, etc.

<BlackCats> GOOD TIP

<Phyl> you drill hole with a dremel?

<BlackCats> YES

<Phyl> and it don't melt on your bit?

<Phyl> like mine did?

<BlackCats> CLAMP THE CHIP TO A BLOCK OF WOOD SO IT STAYS PUT AND YOUR DRILL DOESN'T WANDER

<BlackCats> NOPE, BUT I HAVE THE 5-SPEED DREMIL

<Phyl> ah that makes a difference

<BlackCats> I USED ONE OF THE FASTER SPEEDS AND IT JUST TOOK A COUPLE SECONDS

<cak> so the lowest speed?

<cak> oh! the higher speed!

<BlackCats> YES

<BlackCats> THE LOWER SPEEDS ALLOW FOR MORE HEAT TRANSFER

<cak> that makes sense

<BlackCats> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS?

<BlackCats> DREMILS ARE VERY HANDY LITTLE TOOLS

<BlackCats> WELL WORTH THE COST

<BlackCats> AND THERE ARE LOADS OF DIFFERENT ATTACHMENTS, BITS, ETC

<BlackCats> BAMBOO TILE BEADS:

<BlackCats> DAUB A BIT OF GLOSSY ACCENTS (STUBBY STAMPERS) ON PORTION OF TILE (FROM ENCHANTED INK'S COLLAGABILITIES SITE) THEN PRESS INTO GOLD LEAF CRUMBS. CONTINUE THIS PROCESS UNTIL THE TILE IS COMPLETELY COVERED ON BOTH SIDES AND ENDS.

<BlackCats> USE NEEDLE TOOL (SCRIBE) TO CLEAR HOLES IN THE ENDS OF THE TILE. HOWEVER, IF YOU DON'T PLAN TO ADD BEADS OR FIBER AND PLAN TO ADHERE TO A SURFACE, PUT GLOSSY ACCENTS OVER THE HOLES AND COMPLETELY COVER WITH GOLD LEAF ON JUST ONE SIDE.

<BlackCats> ALLOW TO DRY A BIT THEN PRESS ALL SIDES ONTO HARD SURFACE TO GET GOOD CONTACT. CHECK FOR ANY SPOTS THAT NEED MORE LEAF. WHEN COMPLETELY DRY SPRAY WITH CLEAR ACRYLIC SEALER, DOING ONE SIDE, EDGE AND END; WHEN DRY, REPEAT ON OTHER SIDES.

<BlackCats> QUESTIONS?

<Phyl> Is there a reason for the sealer?

<BlackCats> IT KEEPS THE LEAF FROM BEING RUBBED OFF WITH WEAR

<Phyl> ah got it

<BlackCats> ESPECIALLY IF IT IS A DANGLIE

<Jambalaya> good reason

<cak> Red uses these in one of her book kits--these would be wonderful for the spine of a book

<BlackCats> IT DOES TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF THE GLEAM OFF THE LEAF BUT I WAS USING THE TINY BITS OF LEAF THAT YA GET AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR CONTAINER OF LEAF

<cak> good use for 'em

<BlackCats> AND I THOUGHT THE SEALER WOULD HELP KEEP THE TINY BITS FROM FLACKING OFF

<BlackCats> FLAKING

<Jennifer> ok I got the places for the stones

<Phyl> so that is what to do with all those crumblettes

<BlackCats> RIGHT

<Phyl> kewl

<BlackCats> THAT STUFF IS TOO PRICEY TO JUST TOSS OUT

<Phyl> no kidding

<BlackCats> SOMETHING I SAW BUT HAVEN'T TRIED YET IS PUTTING A TWISTED, RUCHED PIECE OF RED-LINER TAPE ON A CARD AND THEN PRESSING TINY BITS OF LEAF ALL OVER IT

<BlackCats> ALSO SAW THIS DONE WITH EP

<BlackCats> BOTH WERE WAY COOL

<Wanda> sounds way cool

<BlackCats> WASHER & NUT:

<BlackCats> ALL SORTS OF NEAT THINGS CAN BE FOUND IN THE SCREW, NUT, NAIL AND THINGIEMADIDDLE SECTION OF HARWARE STORES.

<Phyl> ruched?

<BlackCats> UHHH, THINK THAT'S THE WORD, LOL

<BlackCats> SORTA GATHERED

<Phyl> don't know that one what is it?

<Phyl> ah grunched LOL

<BlackCats> LOL, NEVER HEARD OF THAT ONE BUT DOES DESCRIBE IT WELL

<BlackCats> PLACE SHEET OF PAPER ON METAL OR OTHER HEAT SAFE SURFACE TO WORK ON. DAUB EMBOSSING INK ON TOP OF WASHER AND PUT DOWN A LAYER OF SILVER EP. WHILE THE WASHER IS HOT (WARNING: WASHER WILL BE VERY HOT.) ADD SPOTS OF OTHER COLORS OF EP, HEATING AS NEEDED. FOR MY SAMPLE I USED PEARLLUSTRE MOONGLOW, ALEXANDRITE (BLUE), ROSE QUARTZ AND GOLD CRYSTAL (ALL FROM STUBBY STAMPERS).

<BlackCats> DAUB EMBOSSING INK ON TOP ONLY OF NUT SIZED TO FIT INTO THE CENTER OF THE WASHER. ADD SILVER EP AND HEAT. WHILE HOT ADD A SPRINKLING OF GOLD CRYSTAL EP FOR SPOTS OF COLOR. USE PAPER TO CAREFULLY MOVE WASHER AND NUT OFF OF HOT METAL SURFACE FOR COOLING

<BlackCats> ALLOW TO COOL COMPLETELY...THIS TAKES LONGER THAN IT SEEMS SO WHEN YOU THINK IT IS COOL WAIT A GOODLY WHILE LONGER. WORKING WITH THE PIECE ANY SOONER RESULTS IN THE EP LAYER SEPERATING FROM THE WASHER.

<BlackCats> WHEN COOLED (AN HOUR OR SO) INSERT NUT INTO CENTER FROM THE BACK OF THE WASHER. WIGGLE THE WASHER FIRMLY BUT GENTLY ONTO THE NUT AND GLUE IN PLACE USING GLOSSY ACCENTS (STUBBY STAMPERS). USE JUST ENOUGH TO FILL VOIDS BETWEEN WASHER AND NUT. ALLOW TO SET UP AND ADD A COAT OF GLOSSY ACCENTS ON THE BACK TO FILL ANY VOIDS AROUND THE NUT. ALLOW TO SET UP OVERNIGHT.

<pmstamper> I wonder if that flexible additive they have for EP now would keep it from chipping or flaking off?

<BlackCats> THIS PIECE WOULD WORK BETTER FOR SOMETHING LIKE AN ALTERED BOOK COVER

<Phyl> so if the washer is red hot dows the embossing powder sort of melt as you put it on?

<BlackCats> I WONDERED ABOUT THAT TOO, PHYL

<BlackCats> HI JOY

<joy> hi

<Jambalaya> hi joy

<Jambalaya> http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=6274282&uid=1026244

<BlackCats> YES, ONCE THE WASHER STARTS GETTING HOT IT WILL HOLD HEAT FOR A GOOD LONG TIME

<Phyl> Hi joy

<BlackCats> SO AFTER THE FIRST LAYER OR 2 YOU DON'T NEED TO ADD ANY MORE EMBOSSING INK

<Phyl> oh kewl

<BlackCats> WHICH IS NICE CUZ THAT'S WHEN YOU CAN ADD LITTLE BITS OF SEVERAL DIFFERENT COLORS

<Phyl> right have fly off problems with that one

<cak> Lea's "marbling" would be wonderful on these

<BlackCats> THIS SCAN DOESN'T REALLY SHOW THE RANGE OF COLORS VERY WELL

<pmstamper> I have already burned a ink pad putting it to something too hot.

<Phyl> my thought exactly cak

<BlackCats> LOL PAT

<cak> actually this *is* the same technique as Lea's!

<BlackCats> OH REALLY

<cak> just a different surface

<BlackCats> HOW FUNNY CUZ I WAS JUST GONNA ASK YOU ABOUT THAT AS I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH HER TECHNIQUE

<cak> well, she drew a pin through the melted ep to make patterns

<Phyl> she used cardboard right?

<cak> yes

<BlackCats> OOOH, THAT SOUNDS NEAT

<Phyl> there is

<Jambalaya> right

<BlackCats> I CAN'T EXPRESS ENOUGH THAT YOU NEED TO WAIT A LONG TIME BEFORE HANDLING THIS PIECE

<BlackCats> IT STAYS HOT MUCH LONGER THAN YOU WOULD THINK

<Phyl> I will let ih move it for me

<BlackCats> AND MOVING IT AROUND TOO SOON MAKES IT UNSTABLE

<BlackCats> BUT ONCE IT HAS CURED FOR ABOUT A DAY IT STANDS UP FINE TO BEING TOSSED INTO A DRAWER

<BlackCats> AND THEN PAWED AROUND, LOL

<cak> I think Jamba's fry pan with handled foil would be great for this--you could do all kinds of manipulation but still move it off the heat safely

<cak> LOL

<cak> that's the real test

<Jambalaya> yes

<BlackCats> RIGHT, THAT'S WHY I SAID TO START OUT WORKING ON A CRAFT SHEET OR AT LEAST A SHEET OF PAPER SO YOU COULD MOVE IT ASIDE

<BlackCats> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS?

<cak> lol--I guess not

<cak> my mind is buzzin' though

<BlackCats> OK

<BlackCats> LOL, GOOD!

<BlackCats> ANOTHER REALLY NEAT SECTION OF HARDWARE STORES IS THE ELECTRICAL SECTION

<BlackCats> ALL KINDS OF GOODIES TO BE FOUND

<Jambalaya> makes ya wanna go trot through home depot

<BlackCats> YEP

<Julie> that's what I was thinking Jam

<BlackCats> GET YOU DH INTERESTED IN SOMETHING ELSE AND GO EXPLORING

<Jennifer> elecrical?

<BlackCats> YEP

<BlackCats> ELECTRICAL CONDUIT NUT:

<BlackCats> THESE CAN BE FOUND IN THE ELECTRICAL SECTION OF HARDWARE STORES. THE SAMPLES ARE TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF CONDUIT NUTS.

<BlackCats> PAINT WITH LUMIERE AND WRAP WITH WIRE AND BEADS. YOU COULD ADD CHARMS OR COMBINE WITH OTHER ELEMENTS. THEY COULD ALSO BE USED WITH RIBBONS AND FIBERS.

<cak> these are fabulous!!!

<BlackCats> TY

<BlackCats> THERE ARE A LOT OF NEAT SHAPES AND SIZES OF THESE THINGIES

<Phyl> so that is a conduit, thought a conduit was a small condo

<BlackCats> LOL

<BlackCats> CONDUIT IS THE PIPE THEY RUN WIRE THRU

<joy> see what you can learn in here!

<pmstamper> very cool. I can swipe some of those from my dad's stash of pieces and parts of hardware. lol

<BlackCats> YOU COULD USE WIRE OR RIBBON TO BIND SEVERAL OF THESE TOGETHER

<BlackCats> EXACTLY PAT

<Jambalaya> the funniest thing about pawing through stuff at hardware stores is when the mr tool guy workers wanna help ya

<Phyl> do those little prongs stick up?

<BlackCats> LOL

<Julie> do you think Home Depot would want to join the vendor mall? It would make it easier for us to order :)

<BlackCats> SOME ARE FLAT, SOME CUPPED

<Phyl> k got it

<BlackCats> LOL JULIE

<Jambalaya> lol

<BlackCats> THEY ARE NOT BENDABLE THO PAT

<Jambalaya> shipping would kill ya on hardware stuff<g>

<BlackCats> BUT THERE ARE THINGS LIKE THAT IN THE SCREW, NUTS, BOLTS SECTION

<BlackCats> FINISH AND LOCK WASHERS:

<BlackCats> #1 PUT TOGETHER USING GLOSSY ACCENTS

<BlackCats> #2 PUT A DOT OF GLOSSY ACCENTS ON ALL POINTS AND ADD MICROMINI BEADS

* Phyl dosen't go in the screw and nuts section, she stays away from there

<BlackCats> WHY?

<Phyl> her mouth gets her in trouble over in that section with the clerks

<BlackCats> TOO DANGEROUS? <g>

<BlackCats> AH, LOL

<Jambalaya> she's afraid they'll mistake her for a nut

<BlackCats> HARDWARE STORES ARE A TREASURE TROVE OF NEAT THINGS WE CAN USE FOR CRAFTING

<BlackCats> LOL JAM

<Phyl> i hate asking for a bigger screw

<BlackCats> ANOTHER GOOD PLACE TO LOOK FOR NEAT THINGS TO ALTER IS SWAP MEETS, GARAGE SALE, FLEA MARKETS

<BlackCats> ROFL PHYL

* Jambalaya Bops Phyl

<Phyl> eeeek

<BlackCats> MADE ANY YOUNG THINGS BLUSH LATELY? <g>

<Phyl> lots of em

<BlackCats> LOL

<Phyl> I love it

<BlackCats> YEP

<Jambalaya> oh another place to check for cool embellishments is electronic stores

<Jambalaya> like radio shack

<BlackCats> I WAS HUNTING FOR SOMETHING RECENTLY IN HOME DEPOT AND CAME UPON SOMETHING I NEED TO GO BACK AND INVESTIGATE

<BlackCats> COPPER FLASHING ON STICKY BLACK TARPAPER

<Phyl> ya wire nuts would be great

<Jambalaya> those thingies that go in radios are cool looking<g>

<BlackCats> RIGHT, THAT'S ANOTHER GREAT PLACE TO LOOK FOR POSSIBLE BELLIES

<joy> Oh BC I Have that!

<Julie> do tell Joy, sounds neat

<BlackCats> YOU DO?! SO IT IS A GOOD CRAFT MEDIUM?

<cak> joy! does it work like the aluminum stuff?

<joy> it's just what she said but we put it through the die cut machine and it was great too

<Jambalaya> ya out with it joy, what have you tried?

<joy> embosses too

<BlackCats> WOW, HOW NEAT

<BlackCats> HMMM, I SEE A STOP AT HOME DEPOT TOMORROW <g>

<Julie> me too BC

<cak> lol

<BlackCats> LOL

<Jambalaya> me too<g>

<joy> it cones in 2 sizes in the flashing section-- no phyl, you can't flash!

<BlackCats> MAKE THEM WONDER WHY IN THE WORLD THAT STUFF IS SUDDENLY FLYING OFF THE SHELVES <g>

<Jambalaya> what section was that?

<joy> comes

<Phyl> foiled again drat

<BlackCats> ROOFING

<BlackCats> LOL

<pmstamper> hmm, I am wondering why all the stuff "men" work with have suggestive names. lol

<BlackCats> SEE?! ALL KINDA NEAT THINGS TO BE HAD AT HARDWARE STORES

<Jambalaya> joy has phyl's number<g>

<Phyl> lol

<BlackCats> LIKE I SAID, YOU JUST HAVE TO LEARN TO LOOK AT THINGS WITH 'NEW' EYES

<joy> see this lady HD person asked if she could help me---

<Jambalaya> cuz men named it

<BlackCats> LOL PAT

<joy> she knew where the great stuff was

<cak> of course, a woman!

<BlackCats> AHHH, SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE TO SEEK OUT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE

<joy> if you have the embossing plate that will make nameplates-- this looks great!

<BlackCats> OOOH, GOOD IDEA

<cak> I've always wanted one of those

<joy> I don

<joy> t have one but out local stamp/scrap store does

<Phyl> i have a non class related question

<BlackCats> DOES IT PEAL FROM THE TAR PAPER EASILY?

<joy> no

<BlackCats> AH, RATS

<pmstamper> thanks for the great ideas and the great class BC, I have to leave early, sorry.

<joy> not ideal for any scrapping- acid free work

<Jambalaya> nite pat

<BlackCats> CUT THAT CAN BE TRIMMED SO IT DOESN'T SHOW, RIGHT?

<joy> just plan to leave tha back paper on and glue

<BlackCats> OK, TY

<Jambalaya> how thick is the backing paper??

<BlackCats> JUST A SECOND WITH THE QUESTION, PHYL

<joy> not as thick as the tar

<BlackCats> LIKE A REALLY HEAVY CONSTRUCTION PAPER IF I RECALL CORRECTLY

<Jambalaya> and was this stuff expensive?

<BlackCats> NOT REALLY

<joy> about $12 if I remember for the smaller roll

<BlackCats> RIGHT, THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING

<joy> you get a lot though

<BlackCats> BUT THAT SMALL ROLL WOULD PROLLY LAST YOU A GOOD LONG WHILE UNLESS YOU REALLY WENT INTO PRODUCTION WITH IT

<Julie> it would last cak and I a life time :)

<Jambalaya> lol

<BlackCats> JOY, WE'LL HAVE TO DO SOME THINGS WITH IT FOR SHOW AND TELL SOME THURSDAY NIGHT

<cak> lol

<cak> (you got that right Julie!)

<BlackCats> OK, ANY MORE QUESTIONS?

<joy> I can scan what name plate I have , if I can find it for Thurs

<Jambalaya> great class bc, ty

<BlackCats> OK, THAT WOULD BE GOOD JOY

<BlackCats> YW

<BlackCats> THANKS FOR COMING TONIGHT EVERYONE

<Wanda> no questions.... Great Class!!!! good pics, great explanations

<Julie> thanks BC

<BlackCats> REMEMBER...GO EXPLORING IN YOUR LOCAL HARDWARE STORE

<BlackCats> TY WANDA, JULIE

<joy> thanks BC fo keeping us thinking and great samples!

<Jambalaya> Jennifer looked up the style stones for y'all

<Jambalaya> http://www.cistamps.com/style_stones.htm

<Jambalaya> <Jennifer> <Jennifer> http://www.larubberworks.com/frame.html

<BlackCats> THANKS, JOY

<cak> lots of wonderful ideas--thanks BC

<BlackCats> THANKS CAK

<BlackCats> OK, CAPS OFF

<BlackCats> phyl, what was your question?

<Phyl> does anyone know who makes translucent white pigment ink pads

<Phyl> Great class Monica thanks for all the tips

<BlackCats> no, I've only seen the tinted

<joy> translucent ones- no

<Jambalaya> phyl, what do you want to use it on?

<Phyl> I know encore used to make a white that was fairly trans. but i don't think they sell it anymore

<Phyl> someone wants to make a snow looking scene

<Jambalaya> try memories white, it doesn't cover well at all<g>

<BlackCats> lol

<Jambalaya> it's not pigment though

<Phyl> lol kewl

<joy> there's a recommendation for ya

<Phyl> well it might do the trick, will pass the info on to her

<BlackCats> yep

<Jambalaya> well, all ink pads have their uses<g>

<BlackCats> or she might try using her finger and dabbing it on lightly

<BlackCats> that way she could more easily control the coverage

<Jambalaya> or a cotton swab<g>

<BlackCats> yep

<Phyl> good ideas

<Jambalaya> ohhh OR

<joy> or finger dauber

<BlackCats> yes

<Jambalaya> you could dilute white acrylic paint and with water and brush it on

<Phyl> also a good idea

<BlackCats> tho I had trouble with those being too much of a circle if you weren't careful

<joy> there is white watercolor paint that is translucent in the Prang watercolor set at Office Max

<Jambalaya> there ya go

<BlackCats> yep

<Phyl> I don't know the reasoning behind the pigment, she didn't explain why

<Phyl> unless she is one of those that don't know the difference

<Phyl> but will pass on your suggestions thanks

<BlackCats> maybe she wanted to add some sparle ep

<Phyl> that is a thought

<BlackCats> another idea would be to add a few drops of white reinker to some gel medium

<Julie> flick some bleach on (if it's a dark cardstock of course)

<Jambalaya> aren't you sorry you asked now phyl?

<BlackCats> lol

<Phyl> lol nope got lots of good answers

<BlackCats> good

<Phyl> wonder if you could mix acrylic ink with embossing ink

<Phyl> er make that acrylic paint

<BlackCats> wouldn't think so

<BlackCats> but might be a useful experiment

<Jambalaya> never tried it, but don't see why not

<Phyl> lord knows i have plenty of bottles from my pre versamark days

<joy> I just got home from rubberstamp club meeting today and we did a postcard exchange

<BlackCats> oooh, how neat

<Julie> you could brayer a rainbow pad background, stamp scene in black, and then fine spray some bleach. Looks like snow falling

<BlackCats> have loads of fun?

<Phyl> how did it go?

<BlackCats> good idea julie

<Jambalaya> scan them for next thursday joy

<joy> I now have 12 cards that I can decorate

<Phyl> Well I gotta split ladies, thanks again for the class Monica and all the ideas

<Julie> Jam, I was going to ask you what I could use besides a tile for those clay pins but now I HAVE to go to hardware store because of Monica :)

<Wanda> I should get going

<BlackCats> lol, so just pick up a tile while you're there <G>

<Jambalaya> yep

<Jambalaya> and the tiles are cheap

<BlackCats> yep

<Jambalaya> pick up several

<Julie> I meant to get there today but ran out of time and I wanted to try them tomorrow since I got my Stubby order

<cak> what did you get Julie? stamps, of course, anything else?

<Julie> this time around--I just picked up stamps to do those pins. I got about 4 different styles I think

<BlackCats> did you get that new sunrise stamp?

<cak> cool, you will be bringing them to stampnight, right?

<BlackCats> that one looks like it would be great for clay

<Julie> no, I didn't get the new one but I did get the triangle design and a long heart design

<BlackCats> ah

<Jambalaya> which pins?

<BlackCats> well, be sure to take scans and send them in for Thursday Show and Tell

<Julie> I keep calling them pins but they were the clay things you taught last week

<Jambalaya> yes bc, the sunrise was made with clay in mind

<BlackCats> yeah, your convention pins jam

<BlackCats> thought so

<BlackCats> there's another one that will be good for clay

<BlackCats> a rectangle ethic looking stamp

<cak> (brb)

<Julie> I don't think I saw that one--I also picked up a square design

<BlackCats> there are a lot of stamps in the emblem section that would make great clay pins

<Julie> I bet some of your danglies here would look good with the clay BC

<Jambalaya> oh ya, those were so much fun to make

<BlackCats> I'm planning on working with clay this week

<Julie> That micromini beads lock washer would make a cool frame

<Jambalaya> i've been itching to play with clay, but i need to get some organizing done in my room first

<BlackCats> yeah, it would

<BlackCats> lol, me too jam

<Julie> I got a whole banker's box full of stamps organized today!

<BlackCats> gotta scrub my worktable so I don't get stray stuff in the clay

<BlackCats> yay julie

<Julie> I just have to find the handle to my pasta machine

<Julie> It somehow landed in the wrong cupboard I think

<Jambalaya> yes

<Jambalaya> i was thinking it might be cool to cover washers with clay

<Jambalaya> like those donuts you find in bead shops

<BlackCats> lol, I keep mine in the box with the clay, moulds, etc

<joy> I've had 3 handles for mine Julie-lol

<BlackCats> good idea jam

<BlackCats> oooooohhhh, you just gave me an idea jam

<BlackCats> thanks!

<Jambalaya> wow julie

<joy> you need to try your alcohol inks on washers too

<BlackCats> good idea

<joy> and alcohol inks on translucent clays are gorgeous too

<BlackCats> oooooh, thanks for the tip

<Julie> gee, we could spend a whole day working with washers alone :)

<Jambalaya> lol

<BlackCats> yep

<BlackCats> easily

<Julie> oh joy, I bet they look great with that clay

<joy> yup

<BlackCats> when I did this class it was a bit of a rush class so just used what I could find in my dh's workroom <G>

<BlackCats> but I have lots of other ideas for washers, wingnuts, etc

<joy> wingnuts huh, sounds interesting

<Jambalaya> ya?

<BlackCats> yep, that's what I thought <G>

<BlackCats> you could come up with some very interesting assemblages

<Jambalaya> true julie

<BlackCats> using wire or strong fibers and joining different shapes and sizes together

<joy> BC just gave me an idea too

<BlackCats> lol

<BlackCats> good

<BlackCats> color some with alcohol inks, others with metallic lumieres

<Julie> flat washers (colored somehow) would make a cool retro look for a background

<Jambalaya> oh and i read this on a stamp list recently, there are washers that are brass, but burned, so they are colorful like when you burn copper

<BlackCats> yeah, I need to look for them tomorrow

<Jambalaya> so we need to look for those, wouldn't have to do anything to them<g>

<joy> so they are labeled brass washer?

<Julie> how am I going to have time to play with clay if I'm browsing the hardware store all day?

<BlackCats> nice that home depot is across the road from where we eat breakfast on sundays <G>

<BlackCats> lol julie

<BlackCats> just hunt one section tomorrow

<BlackCats> another section the next time

<Jambalaya> i'm not much into assemblage, but, the insides of thos lil red tape runners are very cool looking

<Jambalaya> like cogs and stuffs

<BlackCats> uh huh

<Julie> what lil red tape runners?

<Jambalaya> lol, but a very heavy card julie<g>

<BlackCats> well, there are some smaller, light weight washers too

<BlackCats> even some itty bitty ones

<BlackCats> and some of those have colors on them too

<joy> those ity bitty ones are cool on slide mounts

<BlackCats> mostly blues but some greens

<Jambalaya> those duck brand ones from wally world

<joy> these could be timely ideas too with father's day cards coming up

<Jambalaya> case is red

<joy> dryline glue runners Jam?

<BlackCats> yes joy

<BlackCats> especially if your father does fix-it projects

<Julie> ok, I think I know what you mean

<Jambalaya> true

<Jambalaya> we're always scrounging for masculine stuff

<BlackCats> there are lots of stuff in hardware stores you can use on cards besides as bellies

<Jambalaya> ya but not dryline brand, duck brand

<BlackCats> drywall tape is a good substitute for the wonder mesh you pay a fortune for in scrapbook stores

<joy> ok, I have seen that too

<BlackCats> just color it with inkpads

<joy> BC, try gold sparkle EP in that drywall tape sometime

<BlackCats> ooooh, bet that's beautiful

<Julie> oh, and I need some of that plastic gutter guard too

<joy> if someone wants a masuline idea of a card I have one I have done

<BlackCats> yep, that's good too

<BlackCats> send it in for show and tell joy

<Jambalaya> ya i love drywall mesh too

<joy> don't have the card anymore

<BlackCats> rats

<Jambalaya> stick some down on waxed paper, and then paint it sloppily with a brush and acrylic paint, some of the paint sticks in the holes and looks cool

<joy> but you can make a replica of peg board by placing graph paper over tan cardstock and punching the smallest circle punch through it

<BlackCats> can't believe 6" of magic mesh goes for $5 in scrap stores when you can get a roll of several hundred feet for the same cost at hardware stores

<BlackCats> and it's already sticky on the back too, lol

<joy> it's that claim to acid free BC

<Jambalaya> you let it go without scanning it?????????

<BlackCats> joy, joy, joy

<BlackCats> scan everything <G>

<joy> that was my pre-cyber days

<BlackCats> ah, ok

<joy> before ya all taught me to scan

<Jambalaya> i know, huh?

<BlackCats> ok, you're forgiven <smile>

<Jambalaya> well, if you touch it without gloves while sticking it in your book, acid free part is moot

<BlackCats> and I doubt very many of them wear acid free gloves when handling their pictures either

<joy> it's an easy card and dh loved it, using made pegboard and stickers

<Julie> get busy joy!

<BlackCats> yep

<BlackCats> by popular demand <G>

<joy> lol, I could make it again and give it to him this year and he probably won't remember it, lol

<BlackCats> it's all a marketing ploy anyway

<BlackCats> my dh gave me the same valentine card two years in a row, lol

<joy> bless his heart, I am threatening to make his reservation at the nursing home

<joy> ok, have any of you done a post card exchange?

<BlackCats> nope

<BlackCats> tell us about it

<joy> I am really jazzed on this

<Julie> years ago joy

<joy> If you have 5 people in the group

<joy> you take 5 blank postcards

<joy> you take a stamp and put the image where you want on each of those 5 postcards

* Jambalaya 's avoid swaps at all costs<g>

<BlackCats> lol

<joy> then you turn it over and stamp and stamp a postcard line stamp on it and put you address on all 5 of the cards

* BlackCats sez 'and she's twisting my arm not to join any more swaps'

<joy> then you make piles with each of the 5 different postcards

<joy> pass those out to each of the people in the group

<joy> send them home to decorate each card

<BlackCats> oooohhhh

<Jambalaya> but

<joy> they then mail each card back to the person who originally stamped it with their stamp

<Jambalaya> um

<Jambalaya> other peoples might not have stubby stamps on them

<joy> with their name and a little about how they did it

<BlackCats> cool

<Julie> that sounds really cool joy

<joy> ya, if we did it as stubby's yahoo group, each person would have to use a stubby stamp

<joy> I have 12 cards to come up with and it's so exciting, and I will get 12 back of my stamp all done differently

<Jambalaya> it's a cool idea

<BlackCats> really

<BlackCats> neat way to get new ideas too

<joy> ya, I think so

<Jambalaya> joy, i may not have mentioned this lately, but if you're interested in starting up swaps on the stubby group, you can

<Jambalaya> just keep it all stubby all the time<g>

<Jambalaya> and leave jams out of it<g>

<BlackCats> lol

<joy> well let me see how this goes and ask my friend how they did the exchange part as a yahoo group. It would need someone to "do" the exchange

<BlackCats> right

<joy> we could do this as part of the cyber group sometime too?

<Julie> well, I'm heading off to bed so I can be up early to be first in line at the hardware store :)

<BlackCats> lol, have fun julie

<joy> lol julie, sweet dreams of washers

<Julie> good night all!

<BlackCats> take scans or pictures of your work for show and tell

<Jambalaya> joy, yes there is a swap section on the cyberstamper bbs (forum)

<joy> if we did this as stubbies, would we use everything stubby that we decorate with?

<BlackCats> like inks, etc?

<joy> yes

<joy> only what you can buy from stubby

<Jambalaya> i'm only concerned with images

<BlackCats> ah, so any kind of ink, ep, etc could be used

<BlackCats> that's good

<joy> well that might be fun with just the images

<joy> well we have 1 month to do these and we are all bringing in the postcards we get next month

<joy> it just reminds me of the challenges we do, but you get 12 different ideas in the one stamp

<Jambalaya> i'd love to see y'all doing swaps and stuff, i just don't wanna do it<g>

<joy> I believe they can be a handful

<BlackCats> yeah, it would be a good group project

<joy> some people sign up to do them and don't and all the problems that go with it

<BlackCats> but know that there can be problems too

<BlackCats> right

<Jambalaya> yes, and my mailing skills ain't what they used to be<g>

<joy> so maybe the challenges are just easier

<BlackCats> and some get behind, sometimes for reasons beyond their control

<BlackCats> well, you might want to start out small

<Jambalaya> well, now that we're finally getting some participation, i might start trying a contest here and there

<BlackCats> have a group of 5 or 6

<BlackCats> that would be good jam

<BlackCats> yes?

<Jambalaya> what small swaps? sure

<Jambalaya> but see, my idea, if we do any kinda swaps, is to have a swap co-ordinator, who would kinda oversee them, and make sure nobody gets their feelings hurt

<BlackCats> yes

<BlackCats> someone to keep track of everyone's progress

<Jambalaya> and the co-ordinator could have a couple back up folks lined up in case someone flakes<g>

<BlackCats> good idea

<joy> ahhh, the nagger

<BlackCats> right

<Jambalaya> and calls out the back up<g>

<joy> you could start by saying the first 5 to sign up get to be in the first exchange ever and just limit it to 5 with others for back up the first tiem

<joy> well I have never done Any exchange before so I am looking forward to this.

<BlackCats> ah

<Jambalaya> before i tell you how to join, i have to make a disclaimer<g>

<joy> I understand people over extend themselves though and let others down

<BlackCats> wait til this swap is over then before you tackle hosting a swap

<Jambalaya> rs list is a list for stampERS, not necessarily about stampING

<BlackCats> see how this one goes first

<joy> oh yeah BC

<BlackCats> yeah, the rs list can sometimes be high volume

<joy> hummm Jam

<BlackCats> and mostly it is the same few who do most of the posts

<Jambalaya> stamping is discussed occasionally, but there are more everyday life topics, political battles, and even some religious stuff

<joy> I know the difference in birding and birders

<joy> I got a stamp quote today I wrote down because I wasn't paying $11

<Jambalaya> what is it joy?

<BlackCats> what was the quote joy?

<joy> Live each season as it passes: breathe the air. drink the drink. taste the fruit. I though it would be nice with a pear stamp

<Jambalaya> nice

<BlackCats> oooh, think I need to copy that one

<joy> ya I have created a file too of quotes

<Jambalaya> love season stuff

<Jambalaya> i keep trying to get andy do make more 4 season stamps<g>

<joy> I did my graduation cards this week and enjoyed making each one

<joy> poor Andy, she has such lovely stamps

<joy> and you just want more

<BlackCats> it would be nice to see some season quotes

<Jambalaya> i know, 3500 isn't enough<g>

<BlackCats> well, a lot of our vendors don't have much in the way of word stamps

<BlackCats> and I like to have some sort of title on a minibook

<BlackCats> I like to print onto vellum and emboss

<joy> I will print something on a transparency or vellum only

<BlackCats> tho I printed out something for the inside of a card today on printer paper and then did light dtp with a lavender inkpad

<joy> I can't believe our stamp meeting was at 2 pm and I got home at 9:30 and not it's 11:30- where did the day go?

<BlackCats> lol

<BlackCats> sounds like a fun day tho

<joy> I had a freind today that made a great book for her daughter and I got to look at it

<BlackCats> how nice

<joy> it was 8x8

<joy> made the whole thing with one picture on each page mostly, very non crowded

<joy> from her daughters birth to this year

<BlackCats> oh, that sounds nice

<joy> just highlights of everyday things and some special

<Jambalaya> did she do a lot of decorating on the pages?

<joy> then did matboard for the cover

<joy> no, a picture with matting around it- very simple

<joy> no titles particularly

<Jambalaya> a lot of scrapbook pages are so busy, you don't see the pics<g>

<joy> some dates or what year of her life it was

<BlackCats> yeah, I know

<joy> she bound it herself

<BlackCats> that sounds very elegant

<joy> and she did the printing on the page from the computer

<BlackCats> like something her daughter will treasure forever

<joy> oh yes, I hope to do one of my son's senior year now

<BlackCats> that would be a great graduation present

<joy> she got the machine that punches the holes so we all can use it

<BlackCats> or going away to college

<joy> I am keeping my camera loaded ALL this next year and I don't care how much he grumbles!

<BlackCats> oh, that was nice of her

<BlackCats> lol, good idea

<Jambalaya> lol

<joy> I wish you could have seen this- about 40 pages and 2 of them were private

<Jambalaya> oh joy, btw, did you see the notice about sia in october???

<BlackCats> brb

<joy> Oct 21 and 22?

<Jambalaya> i think so, ya

<joy> Andy said it was Fri and Sat

<Jambalaya> yes

<Jambalaya> my class will prolly be on the sat

[chat ends shortly]
